This is a very okay place to go for coffee, the coffee was nice and strong just how I like it, some of my party had toasted tea cake and they said it was very good. Sorry can’t comment on much else because that’s all we had, there is toilets for customers but I must warn you there is a fair amount of stairs to climb so not so good if you struggle with that. I would recommend this place and I will return and maybe try something to eat.

Had a perfectly acceptable bacon toasted sandwich here. Not a bad atmosphere and the lady behind the counter was very pleasant. For me, the latte was too bitter with lots of foam and not a lot of coffee. At £4:50 for a sandwich and coffee, you can't complain about the price. Note this cafe is on Ousegate, not Parliament St.

This is a cosy little cafe, with very limited seating inside... and yet it always seems to do well. There is seating outside when whether allows and it's usually pretty popular. You can enjoy watching the other shoppers and tourists go by. There is often street entertainment nearby, which you can enjoy at your leisure. The coffee here is very good. Strong and flavourful (and not 'watery' like some places do). The cakes are pretty good, too. They serve a generous slice. The waffles look sweet and the ice creams look delicious - and popular on a sunny day.Service efficient. I'm guessing they do a pretty good takeaway service too. Very reasonable prices for central York.

Usually get drawn into the high street coffee houses. We all know who they are! Well after today we will make a point of returning to Bell's on Ouse Gate in York! Great coffee, lovely cake and good friendly service. Four of us visited, one with limited mobility who uses a wheelchair. Enough space to sit in the sunny window. We ordered at the counter but all our food was brought to the table for us. If i had to make one very small criticism it would be that the toilets are upstairs. In Bell's defence, as soon as we opened the door to the cafe a member of staff came to tell us. If you've not been here before then please give it a try!

Visited here last weekend and ordered 2 coffees, a bacon butty and a toasted tea cake. We sat outside as we had the dog, but soon realised we had been over charged by £1.75. I politely approached one of the male waiters who said he was too busy to look into it. He then told me I should have worked out the cost while I was at the counter (he did not provide me with a receipt). He said he would try to look into it if he had time. His manner was quite abrupt and he seemed put out. I went back to my table and waited but no one came so I approached another waiter and told him the problem. He was friendlier and went inside to deal with it. Then the original waiter came out and said "how much do you think you've been over charged by then?" He gave us £1 and said again that we should have checked the total before leaving the till. He really made out it was our mistake which left us feeling quite annoyed. We always visit Bells of York when in York and have done for years, but sadly we will now find somewhere else to have a coffee.

Had quick stop here whilst shopping in York. The seat is mixed, a combination of soft squishy sofas and table and chairs, in a variety of sizes. We chose a round table to the rear away from the door (a bit draughty with people coming in and out). We ordered a 'special' hot chocolate which came with cream and chopped caramel shortbread and it was delicious. We also ordered a decaff coffee and a toasted teacake to share. The scones didn't look home-made so steered clear of those! The drinks were hot and steaming and a real warmer on a cold day. The teacake was thick and loaded with fruit. Only downside, not enough butter although I'm sure we could have asked for more, just didn't like to make a fuss. On the whole a good reasonably priced drink stop and will call again.

We popped in for a cup of tea seeing there were free tables. It was a great place to recharge our batteries and had a good view of everyone going by. Has outside tables too. Great cup of tea and the food menu looked really good too.

Right in the middle of York, Bells of York does not really catch your eye. But if you walk in and take a chance, you will be surprised to find some really good sandwiches and coffee. We had a lovely breakfast sitting out on their tables and the experience was made even better by an impromptu brass band performance right in the middle of the square.

Very friendly staff and excellent value for money. Fell upon this place by chance as feeling very hungry and not sure where to go. Best accident ever! Food is absolutely delicious and very filling. Highly recommended.

Was walking in Parliament Street near to lunch time and I noticed a solitary table that was free outside the café on the pavement. We decided to sit down and have a bite to eat in the glorious sunshine. Both my wife and I had a Panini and I can honestly say that the Panini I had was the nicest Panini I have ever had. It was full of ingredients including good quality chicken and it was really and tasty and was delightful. We rested for about fifteen minutes and enjoyed really good food on a glorious summer day.

This restaurant is a little gem serving a limited, but wide ranging, menu which ought to satisfy everyone. The food is, without exception, interesting, innovative and very well cooked or, in the case of deserts, very well prepared and put together. The two dining rooms, while not glamorous, are cosy and comfortable. You don't come to this place to show off, rather you come here because the food is superb. Service is brilliant too. Very friendly and helpful staff and no rushing. 2 minutes from the Minster, 10 minutes from the station, and backing onto the city walls, this place is easy to find and very accessible. I really can't recommend No 8 Bistro highly enough

Awful service. Had to wait at least 25’ for the drinks and 1hour for the food to be served. We mentioned twice that they had forgotten our extra sides and had to wait again for them, had almost finished our meal when they came. Would not recommend to go during busy periods like close to the holidays as gets very busy and takes a long time to get served.

Went in for drinks, couldn’t believe how inattentive and rude the staff seemed. There were two other customers in the whole place but for some reason they seated us right next to the door and it was freezing. We moved to the next table and the waitress immediately came over to tell us the table was ‘specifically reserved’ in an icy tone. There was no reservation sign on the table and as I have said, hardly any customers. She offered to put the door heater on for us but we said we would prefer to sit further in and she allowed this. No one came to sit at the table she claimed was reserved throughout the time we were there. We had espresso martinis which were watery and foamy. Unbelievably, we were charged for the amazing service we had not received on our two drinks. If I had realised sooner I would have asked them to take this off. Incredibly disappointed.

Service was quick and staff pleasant. They did not come to ask if we were OK and did not offer any grated cheese for the very dry cannelloni.
