Double Dutch Pancake House in York

Such a cute rustic cafe (fits perfectly with York’s aesthetic). So much choice on the menu, I went for a build your own. Service was lovely and so quick! Came here before over a year ago and everything was just as good as I remembered!

Tasty Dutch style pancakes with good gluten free options

What a lovely little spot in York! The offerings are extensive and you can customize any item. I had the Amsterdam with added Brie. It was to die for. Very delicious!! Will definitely go again and recommended to some friends who are planning a visit to York in the future. Cute and comfy dining experience:)

A real nice treat,we loved everything about it,also accidentally put too much salt on my pancake and the chef insisted on a new one,just a real great experience,would real recommend the bacon cheese and tomato yummy!,just a little tip that maybe put a large sign to tell people that you have seating upstairs so that other people would be luck enough to taste you wonderful pancakes…thanks

This was probaley my favourite place that i ate at when I was in york beautifully decorated with freidnly staff and an amazing vegan menu. If your in york and looking for brilliant vegan food this must be your first stop can't recommend it enough.

Typical York type shop. Historic and wonky. Menu is fabulous so much choice and decor theme fits the style of restaurant. Will be back !

Now for me pancakes are pretty straight forward to make, but having watched the queues for this place I thought that I best go and check it out and I wasn’t disappointed. I arrived for opening time to try and any queues, but such is their popularity I still had to wait 10 minutes to be seated but it was still worth the wait. I went for the Dutch full breakfast which had various meats and cheeses on top of a pancake, kind of like a pizza crossed with a pancake, with hams, bacon and chorizo. It was delicious and very filling and now I have to up my game with my pancakes, because I usually just put jam on mine or drizzle them with maple syrup. If you can get in there then do so, you won’t be disappointed.

Had a lovely time, staff were really nice. We accidentally stayed in past closing which we felt really bad about because we didn't realise, but they didn't rush us out. The afternoon special was also a great deal for the price.

We were hugely impressed with our lunch at Double Dutch, especially as gluten intolerants! We hope to return next time we're in the city.

I recently visited the Dutch Pancake Shop, and overall, it was a lovely experience. The location is convenient and easy to find within the city, making it a great stop for a sweet or savoury treat. The food was well-prepared, with a good selection of Dutch-inspired pancakes that were both flavorful and satisfying. However, there were a few small drawbacks. The shop itself felt a bit small, so seating was somewhat limited. Additionally, while I expected a more authentic Dutch experience, I was surprised that the staff did not speak Dutch when I visited. The prices were also on the higher side, though the quality of the food made up for it to some extent. Despite these minor issues, I would still recommend visiting if you're in the mood for a delicious treat. It’s a great place to indulge in something different, and I’d happily return for another pancake!

Well made delicious Dutch style pancakes. Waiting time is a bit long, while we came still few empty table not sure why they made everyone wait outside. But the table service waiter was very friendly & attentive.

Fantastic food! Pancakes are lovely and I highly recommend the Advocaat hot chocolate. I came here for my birthday and the staff gave me a cake and a very cute key ring with clogs on ❤️.

Upon entering, we were welcomed and offered a vegan menu. It was good to see a non-vegan place that understood vegan options and made us feel comfortable. I really enjoyed the savoury pancake I had (first time having a savoury pancake) - the truffle oil really elevated it. The hot chocolate was also lovely. My boyfriend enjoyed his milkshake and was able to customise his pancake, which is a great addition to the menu.

Lovely atmosphere, staff were very attentive and sweet. They were able to cater well to my gluten free diet and even added a gluten free biscuit to my cup of tea! If you’re a gluten free girly you’ll understand this is rare and means a lot! I had a delicious gluten free pancake.

The young lady that served us was absolutely delightful. Nothing was a problem. It was her first day and she was amazing.

Went today for the first time with my little boy. We where put on a table in a little room which was really nice. All the staff were really nice but our waitress Maggie was amazing, she was really friendly, kind and my little boy really liked her especially as they both like minecraft. The food was really nice and deceptively filling. Would recommend. Thanks for a wonderful experience.

I highly recommend visiting this restaurant, the food here is absolutely delicious and there’s a variety of options for everyone but everything they make is perfect, so there’s really good quality control here. I loved the staff, they were amazing and friendly, and the service was pretty good. They have service charge here but the staff informed me that you can delete that if you wish, which is pretty amazing, it was my first visit so I payed it. The place is nice and cozy, however a bit small and not many tables are inside, and it seems it gets crowded sometimes. I would recommend it for your visit to york, and i will come back to it for a breakfast that’s for sure.

Had the curry pancake one, it is very unusual to have what you want with it. But it nice, not filling great and light. Love the atmosphere and the staff has been brilliant even though they are run off their feet's. (This was before 1pm)

Had to wait quite a while to get the 1 table that is Dog friendly but it was worth it! I haven’t had pancakes like this since I was in Holland! Loved it

Popped in for some late afternoon food and to avoid the weather. Staff were so friendly and attentive. Value for money was really good and tasty. The atmosphere was a little quiet for us but not in a bad way. Thank you so much for the food and hot drinks!

Gluten free pancakes available. Really yummy mocha in big mug, they even give you a small gf cookie with the coffee. I thought the pancake was really yummy but a bit thin, so wasn't full.

Very expensive- £12 for 1 thin crêpe with some toppings. Been about 3 times and I'm always left hungry afterwards. One crêpe and a hot chocolate plus service charge (which is automatically applied) was £20... Was also told that they only accept 1 card transaction per table which is pretty shocking in this day and age. That, plus the automatic service charge and portion size to price ratio is a thumbs down from me. Food tastes good, but nothing special. I don't understand the reviews that say "best pancake of my life". It's fine. Nothing more. Seasonal hot chocolate was good. I'd save your money and try Krep ronud the corner on shambles market instead. Tastier, more filling, and cheaper.

I was a little worried before we came here that like most dessert places there would only be a couple of vegan options, but they ended up having an entire menu! So many of their food and drinks can be made vegan and the staff were very knowledgable on what I could and couldnt have. I ended up going for a pistachio hot chocolate (which was out of this world) and a build your own pancake with peanut butter and butterscotch sauce. The pancakes were so light and presented so beautifully. The server we had was also so so lovely and made the experience even better!

I had to queue for more than 30 mins just to dine in but it was all worth it!!! Best pancake of my life!!! I enjoyed the food and drink I ordered. Service was very good too! I love how friendly and always smiling the young waitress that assisted me!

Amazing experience. Yummy Pancakes. The kids (and I) were delighted by the little white mice and my son was thrilled that his kinder egg came with a toy. My friend who is both dairy and gluten free was so impressed by the freedom and range of choices. She went for the seasonal special because usually she can't. I also went for the toffee apple special which was so good. My husband went for savoury which was also good. Now planning another trip to York so we can go again. Dank u wel!

The food was brilliant and the service too! We shared a savoury pancake and a sweet one. Very delicious, but sweet one is VERY sweet, it would have been hard to finish a whole one. The coffees were nice too.

Wow what a fantastic place for lunch. We had a fantastic selection of sweets and savoury gluten free pancakes to choose from and also they had specials that we could have as well. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area and need to be confident in gluten free awareness and understanding

The second time going. The service and food are always excellent. I had the gluten free pancake with bacon and maple syrup. There’s are so many options and most seemed to be able to be done gluten free.

We all loved the pancakes and good service. Would have given 5 but I don’t think add on charges should be given for every alternative - price added for dairy free, gluten free pancake, and even a charge for decaf! Whilst I understand some ingredients cost a little more, when promoting yourself proudly as vegan and gluten free, why not average these raw ingredient costs into all pricing rather than make those who don’t have a choice pay more (and more than just the raw ingredient cost at that, eg £1 for gf flour for one pancake)

Lovely pancakes for my daughter’s birthday breakfast - loved the note books on the tables which allow you to write notes and see notes from previous customers. Definitely visit again!

The pancakes were great, but the waitresses were very pushy for us to order and also to pay. Fairly sure there was an eye roll thrown in too for good measure. Didn’t feel very welcome as a customer and not sure we will be back because of this.

I opted for the toffee apple Autumn special aka pancake with baked apples, cinder toffee, toffee sauce and ice cream! Absolutely delightful! The pancake tasted so so good, with crispy edges and a soft middle. The apples were perfectly cooked, and everything fit together nicely! Props to whoever comes up with the specials :) My friend had the Simply Dutch savoury pancake and also said it was tremendous! The service was super quick, and everyone was incredibly nice!! It was a fun little treat to be able to watch the pancakes get made fresh. The décor and overall vibe was great :D

This is a must visit. The food is to die for and the service is amazing. Sometimes there is a queue but it's easy to see why. Great for all occasions.

Just visited Double Dutch and had the best pancake. What made it extra special is the fact it was gluten free and my needs were taken very seriously, even had a gf biscuit with my latte! Thank you, we'll be back next time we're in York

Queues for quite a while here but all pleased with our pancakes. We are a mix of savoury and sweet and also 2 of our party were gluten free and were well looked after.

Very very nice food. Great for gluten free too. Only reason for not giving 5 stars is we had a bit of a long wait. Worth it though.

Good food, great ambiance, and best of all, an excellent service crew! I opted to remove the 10% optional service charge, and the team didn’t give me any frowns. I would gladly pay if I were in a better financial position, but I just can’t manage it at the moment. I truly appreciate their kindness. Seating on the ground floor is quite limited, and I’m not sure about upstairs, so try to come at off-peak hours to avoid a queue. Dog-friendly!

Every time I have visited the food and service has been top notch. They cater for people who are gluten free and vegan and have plenty of choices for both. One of my favourite places to visit for a little breakfast or brunch treat.

Popped in here for lunch off chance, lovely little place. Friendly & welcoming staff, chilled out atmosphere and loads of options. Nearly everything can be made gluten free which is a nice change, the pancakes are lovely. If you're in the area give it a go, really nice.

This is the 2nd time we’ve attended here. The first was a chance as we were in York, the second was because I loved the vegan milkshakes so much that I came back to York for that alone. The biscoff and white chocolate raspberry are 10/10. The sweet and savoury pancake are also brilliant. The staff are kind and I never need to doubt if they’ve listened and made sure everything is vegan as they are very on it (lots of large establishments have a history of forgetting different milks or ice creams!). Support independent 🫶🏼

Had an excellent meal here as a quick stopoff on a day out. There was a queue outside as the place is pretty small but there are 6 or 7 tables upstairs so it moved quickly. My son and I both went for sweet pancakes, so not really a "meal" but a super lovely sweet treat. The milkshakes are good too, but my advice would be either pancake OR milkshake as they're also super sweet. Both are delicious. Service was fantastic to say it was so busy - I couldn't see our server's name or I'd leave a compliment here. Cheap and delicious, definitely recommended!

I came in for some food with my partner and witnessed the chef having an uncomfortable and rude disagreement with one of the staff members. It was very unprofessional towards the staff and customers to have an outburst like that. The food was good but the atmosphere was ruined by the chef’s attitude.

First visit here and it was great , staff were very polite and friendly, quirky little place, lots of options on fhe menu, our pancakes were delicious, will definitely return.

Fantastic place for a delicious pancake! Brilliant gluten free options including a gluten free custard cream with my hot drink - a really special and rare attention to detail which was greatly appreciated and left me feeling impressed and included. I'm not sure this has ever happened to me before! Most pancake options can be made with a gluten free batter alternative so there is plenty of choice for coeliacs here. The pancake itself (apple cinnamon) was absolutely beautiful and surprisingly filling. Also gorgeous décor! So many lovely Dutch trinkets around the place and beautiful crockery to eat from. The space is also larger than it first appears with a full upstairs seating area. Can't wait to return again soon! Thank you!

Great place to eat, The pancakes were sooooo tasty and moreish. The staff were really friendly too. We sat outside at the back and it was a very quirky and perfect for the day.

As a Dutch person I can confirm the pancakes were much like I remember them from the Netherlands (maybe a bit thinner, but the taste was on point!). The place itself is cozy enough, and I would normally give this place 4 or 5 stars, but... my partner has coeliac disease and they said they can cater for that as the do GF pancakes and clean the pans in between. However, we were sat next to the open kitchen and noticed they didn't clean their pans well enough in between to get rid of all the gluten (just boiling water and a quick wipe). For most with a gluten intolerance that will be good enough, yes, but not for people with coeliac disease. They said it would be fine but my partner (who's had coeliac for a long time and works in medicine) explained that it wasn't. In the end I had my pancake, as did my son (we both loved it), but my partner didn't as they explained they could not clean their pans more than they already did. The overall experience was therefore a negative one. If they explained their process and mentioned it was OK for people with a gluten intolerance but not with coeliac disease that would have been fine (not everyone can cater to everyone after all), but this was not OK. Customers need to be able to make informed decisions when it comes to allergens.

I took my granddaughter for a day trip to York. On our stroll around we came across this fabulous "Dutch Pancake ". Walking in the ambience is cosy, you feel at home relaxed. A book on your table to write some 'double dutch' if wanted to. Service friendly and helpful. Food, every mouthful delicious and moreish. Value for money for sure. We didn't need to use the loo, but from all apperience I would be sure it would be very clean. Not built for wheelchair disability.
