Came to buy fresh baguette and sourdough bread. Gorgeous as usual. Lovely cakes and a fan of their halloumi wrap which came with chips. ❤️

Sat down on noon on Sunday. Friendly attentive staff. Asked for a menu and ordered the full english, single english and french toast. The waitress said there is a wait for your food. Alarm bells should have sounded because how long is a wait. 10, 20, 30 minutes. A minute, a while, half of a football match. Drinks came out quick as they usually do. It's been over an hour and our food has not arrived yet. Great start to the birthday breakfast I must say. This place was recommended by a few people but as a first experience, I will be taking my breakfast custom elsewhere. During the wait my wife ordered a pistachio cake which was scrumptious. I guess this place is only renowned for baked goods and and not cooked foods.

DO NOT ORDER FOOD ONLINE! WHAT YOU GET IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM THE DESCRIPTION ON THE WEBSITE AND WITH A RETAIL COST OF INGREDIENTS LESS THAN ONE TENTH OF WHAT YOU HAVE PAID. ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE TO COMPLAINTS. The web site clearly states the " Surprise bread with 25 rolls" as "....stuffed to the rim with 25 rolls: Cream cheese & smoked salmon, Roast ham & salad, Smoked Ham & rocket, Cheese & Tomato, accompanied by a photo clearly showing these fillings. When you collect it it is wrapped prettily in cellophane and a ribbon, why would you make a fuss and check what is inside? On getting this home, I took the lid off the loaf, told my guests what the fillings were and went to organise some drinks. I returned to find my guests looking very unhappy and uncomfortable. The fillings were: a meagre portion of egg mayonnaise, a dollop of cream cheese with a slice of cucumber and a slice of cheese from a packet with a slice of tomato. NO SMOKED SALMON, NO ROAST HAM, NO SMOKED HAM. This was totally unacceptable and extremely embarrassing. To have provided totally different, and extremely cheap fillings, without explanation is contrary to the Trade Descriptions Act. I shall be taking legal action

picked up a takeaway and was surprised to see they now do English Sunday roast, which seemed odd. The croissants and cakes on display looked the same as ever. I note from Companies House that the last Belgian directors resigned in 2020 and are replaced by a single Algerian.

This has really gone downhill. It’s now half empty on a Saturday afternoon when everything else is full and that really tells a story. The food was poor. I had a near inedible salt beef beigel - dry meat and stale bread. Sweet potato fries were nice but out of a packet as you would expect so they can’t claim credit for that. It would be good if you want a quiet coffee. The cakes look OK but this was a nice restaurant that is in steep decline.

I used to enjoy coming here on a regular basis. Not any more! The food is ok but the environment was worn and shabby which really took the edge off for me. There are much better places to go in Wanstead / South Woodford.

Used to be good nice food, reasonably price. Has changed management no sadly poor service, very overpriced £15.95 for large full breakfast. Bacon chicken not pork as used to be. Very rubbery, tasteless. Had 2 Cappuccino no chocolate sprinkles on, or complimentary biscuit, as before. Would not return or recommend

We hadn't intended to come here, but due to trying to park in Wanstead we did. Service and choices on the menu were good. We ordered a soup and mushrooms on toast.

Really lovely cafe with lots of choice on the menu. Staff really attentive and friendly with good customer service. Our lunch was very well presented and tasted delicious. Will definitely return soon. Keep up the good work.

Overpriced very average food. I had the quiche of the day (chicken & mushroom). Filling was dry and the pastry was soggy. It may have been good when first made but it had quite clearly been re-heated in a microwave. £8.95 for soggy pastry?? Unacceptable in any restaurant but maybe particularly so in one which made its name originally as a patisserie.

Went to Belgique for lunch. Really rude/severely depressed staff, total lack of hygiene (wearing the same disposable gloves to handle food, use the card machine and clean tables does not mean that you are observing cleanliness - quite the opposite). An entire, squabbling family serving in the restaurant but no service to speak of. Too arrogant to apologise for delays or not processing our order. Outrageous taking for granted hard earned money, especially when businesses are going downhill.

So, I have been living in Wanstead since 2016, I’ve always passed Belgique but never been in before, I gave them a try today, it was 50/50 for me. I stood at the counter for at least 3 minutes, with staff passing me several times, not acknowledging me or my friend, I had to say out loud to my friend ‘let’s see how long it takes them to approach us’ for someone behind the counter to welcome us. Drinks (a large cappuccino & a mint hot chocolate with oat milk) took at least 15-20 minutes to arrive, I think maybe this is an understaffing problem as they only have 3 staff members, but even then I don’t think a drink should take longer than 5 minutes to make. We ordered our food and it took about 20-30 minutes for a jacket potato and a chicken avocado wrap, they were quicker taking the plates away than bringing them. When the woman came to take the plates (olive complexion, late teens to early 20’s, dark hair tied back) took our plates away without even asking us if we were finished with them or not. When we ordered our desserts, as no one was coming up to us, I had to go on a hunt for the staff to ask them to come over and take our order, when the food arrived, the guy sounded and looked irritated. I really like the food, but the only nice staff member is the Muslim lady, even though they all like to ignore customers. Another point is they leave mess on the floors for 1-2 hours before cleaning, I think they must overdo it on their food prep and forget to clean their floors. 2.5/5 for me I did like the conversation we had about money at the end, it displayed the staffs friendlier side.

The best place to come in summer as they have nice outside seating area overlooking the green, staff are very nice too.

I had a jacket potato with cheese and bean filling for which you pay extra per item. Where were the fillings? A meagre spoon of beans and a tiny amount of cheese. Disgraceful compared to other Wanstead cafes where portions are generous. Profiteering at its worst. Service very slow too. Had to keep getting up to find staff to serve us.

I’ve been coming to belgique for years. It’s a 5 minutes walk from home, it has a great location and a nice , albeit pricy , menu. The Aussie manager Chris was so great , smiling , attentive etc and he passed that ethos to his staff . All that has changed. Staff literally hide from customers , when they do take your order ( after you have had to get up and literally stand in front of them ) they do so reluctantly and rudely . My daughter and I love visiting there ( eggs Benedict and France toast is our usual order ) but after the 3rd very unpleasant experience, we said no more. I reluctantly went yesterday with a friend . I said nothing. The friend suggested we leave after the waitress was sneering and rude. We walked along to City Place in the high rd and had a charming couple of hours in the pleasant back yard. Please always check sell by dates at belgique. I’ve had two incidences Of out of date Diet Coke. So many food options in Wanstead, belgique will not be one of them any more for me .

Met up with family for lunch. Impressed by the selection of salads and chose a broccoli and lentil salad that was extremely tasty. The cakes are to die for - I loved my baked brownie cheesecake. We sat in the enclosed conservatory which wasn't too busy and were allowed to chat over our food without any pressure to hurry up. As in most London places lately, not many people wearing masks including staff.

I’ve no issue with halal, but not at a franchise operation. Along with my friends I’ve been coming here for at least three times a week for the last six years. Since Chris, Julia and the other long term staff left the service, attitude and cleaniness has gone downhill. On Friday I counted six staff. Most of the girls hide behind the counter and one kept picking at food. The others are almost scared to make eye contact. Having to ask three times for a coffee and to remind them isn’t right. Whilst I appreciate it’s their business, I won’t be going again and as a group of six we have decided to go elsewhere. What we have all noticed is that those who don’t eat pork sausages or bacon are frequenting the place more. So the owners ploy is working. For a £1 million a year turnover business they must know what they are doing but it has come at the sad demise of what was a lovely edgy bistro to a bland not very diverse location. I wish the owners well but We won’t be going again.

Although the food we had was nice the service was probably the worst we have ever experienced... So slow almost at snail pace which spoilt our 1st visit. A little overpriced also £60 for 2 x coffee, 2 cakes, & so snacks! Would like to try again but unsure!

From since they opened they have very big issues whit customer service, but prices is like in London Center . However I was avoiding this place for long time since today. Decided to go and by a birthday cake for my son . When time came to pay I wanted to pay whit 50£ note. And they refused to take as it is “ company policy “ What a joke! Your price is is high and you can’t afford to get money checking machine? Wanted to speak with manager, but they explained that he is not in the site. Asked for customer service number? They doesn't have. Turn-up some team leader and whit big stupid smile on her face tried to tell me is it “ company policy “ but no explanation why British money being not excepted in Great Britain. AVOID THIS PLACE! You can found much more friendly staff and great food in that area.

Awful experience and late lunch. We entered no one was accommodating or helpful, so we had to ask someone to seat us. The waitresses don’t speak much and have a terrible attitude. Food was rubbish, gave tinned spinach in one of the meals, none of the food was fresh. They forgot our drinks when reminded I was given a cold coffee. I would give zero stars if I could!

I have been to Belgique Wanstead many times recently. The waiter and waitresses who were servicing in the Terrace were rude and were not helpful! We had to remind them for our order of drinks most of the time. When we asked for our bills, they said they were too busy to service us and told us to queue at the till.Food was poor, most of the sauces were bought, not making their own. Salads on the plate were tired, as if it’s recycled from the previous customers.

Absolutely fantastic service, with the best beef burger I have ever tasted. 5 stars. Excellent surrounding.

Oh dear. Went into this long time favourite for a spot of lunch only to be told they are now Halal and don’t serve wine or beer. They should make this clear outside. Best avoided unless of course you like that sort of thing.

I visited this restaurant for the first time since lockdown to meet a friend for coffee and cake . They do have amazing cakes . There is very large outdoor space at the front and they have spent a lot of money on weatherproofing it. But it was too windy and cold .We decided to go inside to the back of the shop. We were greeted very nicely and invited to sign in or use the NHS test and trace App. I noticed some staff wearing their mask not covering their nose . A group of women came into the same area we were sitting in , not masked . They continued to move around for quite a while before they were joined by another large group of women . Moving back and forth to the front of the shop . No self distancing or wearing a mask . It’s a current requirement that customers wear a mask inside restaurants until they are seated / served . Clearly the management of Belgique put profit before safety . We won’t be back . There are 11/ 12 other coffee shops to choose from .

POOR FOOD, POOR MANAGEMENT Disgraceful! I ordered a steak baguette with salad and fries. When it arrived, I needed a microscope to find the steak! Luckily, there was a slice of onion. When I asked where was the steak, the supervisor said she will only charge me half price as this is how the kitchen prepares this item. She continued to say the kitchen cooks and divides each portion for the service upstairs to prepare. When I asked her if she would pay for what Belgique served me, she replied she would not answer that question. In any other establishment I am prepared to pay the £10 for a steak baguette, I have paid more in others BUT NOT when there is wafer thin beef, a slice of tomato and red onion!!!

Belgique has the edge currently on other nearby cafes, because of its large outdoors seating area. And very pleasant it was to have lunch there yesterday in the pitch perfect early September weather. Service was friendly and efficient. Food acceptable, not brilliant but not awful.

Came for early lunch with a friend- we hadn’t booked but there was plenty of space. We sat outside. I had a very tasty quiche and salad followed by a delicious cake. Our waitress was delightful, helpful and polite.

En un día frío y fresco, la pasta de champiñones era solo la comida de invierno que necesitaba. Pasta cocida a la perfección y una hermosa salsa cremosa. The coffee is very good in this place, as the bartender is very professional. The breakfast are fine but most of the other dishes are too overpriced for what it is. We have tried different ones, and you can easily end up paying nearly £19 for a burger with fries. Wraps are fine but for that price, you expect something better. The same thing happens with the sandwiches.I have seen how the prices for the slices of cake have been increasing gradually in the last few years. £4.50 for a tiny slice is a joke, specially when there are a lot of competitiors in the High Street now. We just don't buy them any more and go to other places for it.The service is always top-notch in this place, especially from one of the waiter, who is very polite and is always smiling.

We popped in for lunch as we had not visited for a while , we were shown to our table , and were waited on by a polite member of staff who took our order of fry’s and 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks , the food came up , not very impressive looking and no chips or drinks so we waited only to be told they forgot to order the fry’s they would be 2min , they were 10

Rudiculous to charge me £16 for a pancake I created a plain with toppings £ 2.60 for small slices of cheese and 2.70 for 2 pieces of Bacon .Spinach soft an slimy 1.50 pancake plain £ 4.50.

We ate here and were surprised at the amazing and varied menu and the fantastic selection of cakes. Inviting and friendly atmosphere. Great table service.

Really? £19.95 for a fry up? Honestly who do you think you are Belgique? At the end of the day you’re just a glorified cafe. Seriously, you need to review your pricing, I quite liked my local Branch in Woodford, it’s relatively quiet and intimate, but there are plenty of coffee shops here now, and your prices have driven me to the competition, no fry up is worth that, certainly not yours, and with a fiver for a cake too, you need to get real, North East Londoners don’t want to pay West End prices.

We enjoyed two wonderful breakfasts and great service at Belgique. The menu was wide-ranging and we really enjoyed our time there - will return. Thank you to the team!

Mi marido y yo pedimos el desayuno aquí, era prácticamente destinado a ser un inglés completo, pero su interpretación. Empezaré con las salchichas, eran horribles, y olía raro era dividido en el medio y más preparado. El tocino era malísimo, a este barato, con un montón de cosas cã grasa y cocinados en una plancha. Los huevos revueltos y olía raro sabía horrible. El resto de la comida estaba fría. Lo único bueno era la tostada. Ah y cuesta unas 40 libras. Mejor evitar el desayuno yo diría. Nunca he probado las tartas, pero el café es bastante bueno. El servicio es regular.

Had a salmon and roasted veg dish for lunch. this was cooked to perfection. Finished off with some of Belgique's fantastic cake. i could literally move in and just eat their cakes for the rest of my life. The staff are so attentive and chatty but managed to carry out their job of serving with speed and efficiency. I will definitely go back to try something else from the extensive menu. Very highly recommended. The only minus point (and its a small one as the menu is so varied), there's little that's gluten-free which was a slight problem for my friend.

Went there to order a special cake for a 96th birthday. I was NOT disappointed. What a place. The choice was fantastic and the staff couldn't be more helpful. Had to stay to have a hot chocolate and a chocolate eclaire. Would I go there again??? Damn right I have!!!!!!

Such a rude manager for no reason! I went to the counter to purchase some bread which I do regularly. When I asked for a certain type of bread then pointed at the said bread, so not to confuse the staff, he completely ignored me and grabbed the closes bread to him which wasn't what I asked for. When I said, sorry, that's not the right bread, Massimo, the manager, immediately yelled out "THATS NOT HOW YOU PRONOUNCE IT!" he shouted this twice in order to embarrass me. I got the name of the bread slightly wrong but there wasn't any reason for him to be as rude as he was. I then asked for some butter to which he yelled yet agaIn "I'LL HAVE TO CHARGE YOU THE PRICE OF SOMETHING ELSE FOR £2.10 COZ THATS NOT ON MY TILL!" .... so for a 85p bread he charges £2.10 plus the cost of the bread.... When he reached in to get the bread I noticed he didn't have gloves and I could see it wasn't clean! How can a manager behave in such a way? I rejected the bread and asked for his name. He tried giving me someone else's name but then I noticed the name tag which said Massimo. Never in my life have I ever experience such blatant unsatisfactory customer service! And I will never visit this Loughton brand and will be discouraging people from having to suffer such humiliation in an unjust way such as this!STAY WAY CLEAR, THE MANAGER IS SO RUDE!

My wife and I met with some friends here for breakfast. It was excellent food, service, and atmosphere. My wife and I had the Grandbelgique breakfast which we both enjoyed. We have not eaten here at any other time of the day but the menu looks good and they have some great looking cakes. They also make cakes to order. I am sure we will be back.

Surly and indifferent service. You are served as if they are doing you a big favour! Food is average.

Always busy but the service is always very good and the food is wonderful. Their breakfast menu is sublime, various combinations of hollandaise sauce, poached egg, smoked salmon and bacon with brioche or crumpets.Patisserie to die for

Not much to say except that the pastries are delicious and the staff can be very disinterested to say the least.

This place is nice cafe, the staff are friendly and attentive. They mainly do soups, salads, fries and sandwiches. I have eaten there a few times and enjoyed it although it is disappointing they don't have GF bread available. The salads are on the small side so it is best to order something to go with them or you will still be hungry.if you go later in the afternoon the fridge may look a little sparse as all the good cakes will have gone.

Okay eggs and mushrooms, would have been better if made fresh from scratch. Coffee pretty miserable burnt and bitter, but the place itself is nice for meeting up with friends, just don't expect great things.

Horrendous eggs royals. Spinach was from frozen and tasted awful; very small amount of Hollandaise sauce; minimal salmon; and the brioche bun was soggy. The coffee was bitter with a burnt taste of milk. The only redeeming feature was the croissant which was tastey. When trying to give feedback, staff were dismissive and unresponsive. Staff offered a voucher for a free coffee which is pointless as we shan't be returning. A throughly disappointing start to a Sunday. In future, grab a croissant to go and avoid everything else.

I often stop at Belgique for a take away but decided to eat in for once. They serve salads, sandwiches and soups. Fries of course and all sort of desserts. The place is family friendly, boasts with a big terrace (downside is it seats by a very busy road), the staff is extremely friendly (Chris is a dear!), and I enjoy their food. Being French though I have to criticise their baguettes, croissants and pains au chocolat but hey, the place is called Belgique not France ;)

We went for brunch about 11am with friends. On arriving we were promptly informed it was a 30-35 minute wait for food. We ordered any way and waited. The food was lovely but the wait did mean we had finished our drinks well before eating. A nice atmosphere in there with lovely smells from the fresh baking and lovely sights (huge variety of sweet treats). Would go back for another visit.

Once upon a time there was a delightful little cafe in Woodford Green on The Broadway. An old bicycle and an interior tiled and tiny - with a real Belgian to make you feel welcomed.But soon this closed, alas, and the Belgian theme became bright and expansive - but it also lost its quaintness and all of its eccentricity - and now it's lost its way as well.Cakes look delicious but strangely bland - and coffee is a disaster. On the day we visited for a lunch the egg florentine was a disgrace - congealed cold hollandaise sauce, on a green slick of spinach and it was simply awful and was returned. The manager showed no sign of anything - grudgingly taking 15% off the bill.Sad.What was once a unique experience has descended into nothing and judging by the emptiness maybe others feel the same.

We were apprehensive about their service after reading other user review. Fortunately our experience was fine. We spent 3 hours on a Saturday afternoon there, I will rate their service as "reasonable" and in keeping with most high street cafe. We got served efficiently with a smile.Cakes were yummy, their vast selection made my head spin (in a good way), I resolved to ordering 2 different types, which tasted heavenly. Toilets can benefit from a deep clean.We probably re-visit this place when in neighbourhood.

I visited with my toddler on a Monday morning. The place was empty, apart from 2 tables. When we walked in there was nobody around so we just sat down. After 15 minutes, two menus were tossed on our table without a word said. Then the waiter disappeared for 20 minutes. When he finally graced us with his presence, we mentioned the long wait to which he replied: "Yeah, I had other things to do".

Took my two children here for lunch - we had about an hour.Sat for 10 minutes, no-one brought us a menu - in the end my daughter went to get one.10 minutes later I had to ask someone to take our order because it was not obvious to the staff that this was their job.20 minutes later some of our order arrived. It was late because the bagels were being freshly baked. On a saturday lunchtime. It had seemingly not occurred to the kitchen staff that this might be a popular time.We ate. The food was fine but over-priced.I went to pay and was charged for everything we ordered even though we did not receive some items with no explanation. I explained that I was happy to pay for things I had actually received, but not for things that I had not received. The bill was changed. We paid and left.From start to finish, the service was abject - no customer focus, no organisation, no sense of urgency whatsoever, and then rank incompetence to top it off when I was over-charged.Not fun.

They seem to have a new menu with an improved range of sandwiches with various breads, the other stuff continues to be very good if you like sweets and cakesNice position on the green

Mid-afternoon, so not too busy. Ordered two coffees and two sandwiches. Coffees came after about 15 mins, sandwiches hadn't arrived after 40. Apparently, food order had never got through to kitchen. Apologies given, but we had run out of time and left. Still had to pay for drinks. Won't be returning anytime soon.

I could have watched an entire TV episode whilst waiting for a bagel!!! By the time my food arrived, they realized they hadn't baked my gf's croissant!! Lol. So bad!!!

Excellent tea and croissant. Good for people watching. A bit expensive though. Next to the main road so not so good for people with Asthma.

I have been to this place many times, the food is great, nice ambience but service is a disgrace.10 minutes begin for a menu, we wait so long that we decide to go somewhere else, and is not the first time that we had this problem... Shame... It could be the best place for a brunch in Wanstead.

I was met by really nice people as soon as I walked in and was told I could sit anywhere. I had a incredibly lovely blonde waitress serving me and everything was fast and sufficient. Food was tasty but one drink was forgotten but my waitress apologised profusely and it was taken off the bill. A great day out with friends. Will defiantly be back.

We have visited the Belgique Cafe a couple of times for breakfast on Sunday, and we have not been disappointed. The service was efficient, the food was plentiful and delicious, and the family really enjoyed the experience. We will be back for more at a later date.

We always love a family breakfast here - whether the eggs Benedict, the Grand Belgique or a croissant. Always a good start to the weekend. We've also been here for my son's birthday - had a meal, had a delicious cake - and not been charged for it. Lovely local treasure.

Good breakfast with service. Quick catching up with quiet environment. Very cosy setup just around the corner if you need something quick!

Anyone who knew these branches when they started will know that somehow, they have seemed to systematically self-destructed recently.Food is poorer, overpriced,service horrendous. Shame, they had a brand of guaranteed excellence once, now long lost sadly. As usual, seems greed has become their priority rather than the customers and attention to detail.

Simple menu & pastry menu, lovely pastries and coffee, top sandwiches, great eggs Benedict and, no mall thing, the best chips you'll ever eat. Just go for a cup of tea and a plate of chips if you don't believe me. They won't mind, they know you'll be back to try more. Interesting cakes biscuits, jams and choc to take away too.

Visited this popular café on a Saturday morning on a cold February day. The café was busy and are only option was a table at the back of the café which is quite dark and exposed to the smells of the cooking station. We left smelling of fried food which is something to bear in mind if you are going on somewhere else.Service was efficient but the coffees were average and not that hot giving the impression that they had perhaps been left on the counter for a few minutes before being brought to the table. The tea ordered on the other hand came in a generous sized pot and was very hot. The croissants we ordered were fresh and tasty.Prices are in line with other cafes in the area and there is a huge selection of attractive patisserie to choose from if you want to treat yourself.The café has a huge outside area but due to the weather this was empty making the inside space cramped and noisy. Customers in wheelchairs or with push chairs would have found it difficult to find a comfortable spot. It's a pity more can't be made of the outside space.

This chain wouldn't last 5 minutes in Belgium. Terrible quality stale cakes, overpriced everything and truly terrible service!

Food is nice but good luck finding a place on a Saturday morning! It does get rather crammed in here which also impacts on the service. They do have a wide selection of cakes and a diverse menu. Hot chocolate is really good!!
