Beijing in Guildford

I did not know where to book but this was the best place and just right for a family get together. We booked a table and the food, service and ambience were just right. Not tacky but well decorated to make everyone feel at home. So if you have no knowledge of where to go for a great Chinese meal look no further. I very rarely leave reviews so that tells how delighted we all were.

Really love the buffet times at Bejing, a chance to try lots of different foods and they seem to serve sensible sized portions to allow you to do this.

What a fantastic dining experience! From the moment you walk in and greeted by welcoming staff, being shown to your table, ordering food, served food, and finishing, the staff were very friendly and hospitable! We only ordered 3 dishes: sizzling beef, sizzling tofu, and green veggies. All three dishes were nicely portioned, so full of flavour and tasty, and came out hot (not warm like other restaurants). Throughout the evening, the staff checked in regularly to ensure all was going well and whether they could be of assistance with anything. I really enjoyed the dining experience and well worth the hour drive (for me) to get there. Would love to return to try other menu items. Highly recommended!!

they said they couldn't get through on my phone. which is not true. I have hundreds of meals with you. and never a problem. the food was like warm nearly cold when it got to me. A complete let down..

We love this restaurant, it's a bit out of town but so worth it for great takeaway or dining in! We do both. The staff are lovely, they don't rush you through and are attentive and a pleasure to talk with. Highly recommend.

Had really nice food from here a few times, but this order I've had absolutely disgusting food toasted reheated overcooked: ribs was hard and tasted burnt: must of been given left over food reheated from the buffet. Completely in edible: would never return now maybe as well have put the money down the drain.

I love this restaurant and have eaten there before - it’s lovely and the staff are great! But this was uncharacteristically awful food. I don’t understand how it was cooked and delivered so quickly. Ribs, rice dishes and noodles all very average and didn’t taste fresh - seemed like a lunchtime revamp. I never leave bad reviews but this was surprisingly bad food from an otherwise great restaurant. £68 wasted on this occasion. Sorry.

The chow mein tasted burnt. The prawn toast had an unpleasant taste and the chicken balls were full of gristle. At over £45 for 4 items very disappointed with the quality. I have ordered from here before and it’s been fine but after today’s experience I will not be ordering again

This restaurant always without exception prepares the nicest quality Asian food in Guildford. We are regulars to their delivery service.for years and visited on a number of occasions. Tonight the boy manning the phone was incredibly arrogant and had no concept of customer service! What a shame this kid is allowed to let the restaurant team down. Absolute madness. I have never seen such prices. £9.50 for a plain chow mein? I spent £30 on 1 king prawn chow mein and 2 plain chow mein. Even if the food had been outstanding, it would have been ridiculous, but the truth is, the food is very average. I will never go back here again. Absolute total and utter rip off. Bonkers.

First time here, and absolutely amazing. Good atmosphere and beautiful interior. Service was incredible, food and buffet were well-explained. Very welcoming to all. Felix, the server, was very kind and made sure we were well the entire meal. The buffet was delicious! Plenty of options and food was out in a timely manner. It was incredible for the price. Brilliant date spot!

I got a take away from here so I can’t comment on the service or decor. The food wasn’t very nice though. The tempura prawns weren’t crispy enough. The chilli sauce tasted garlicky The chicken with cashews was just awful. The chicken was plasticky and not like real meat and the sauce was too salty. I threw it away. The rice and prawn crackers were ok. I didnt eat much. I would have called them to pick it up and get something nice instead but I was poorly and it would have taken time and effort.

Food was not good for the expensive price. The worst thing was the costumer service. It was was absolutely disgusting! The servers can’t even speak proper English. Never coming here again. Spent 150 pounds and left unsatisfied. Never again

I went to Beijing restaurant yesterday for lunch to celebrate my mother in law’s birthday. We ended up paying a hidden “service tip charge” of 10% (15 pounds). My parents in law did not know you can ask to remove it and ended up paying. Interesting that they put a service tip charge when 2 of out servers did not know English. How can you work in England without knowing basic English is beyond me… The food was extremely salty to the point of not being edible. The inside of the restaurant is very pretty! (that’s the only good thing I can say about this place). For 40 pounds a person (without dessert) you would expect better food and better service. Won’t be going here again.

We enjoyed a lovely meal with excellent service. The decor is lovely and free parking is a definite pus! We didn’t feel that it was exceptional and for the price, we would have had the same quality and service for less in town. Would we return…? Not too sure. Very authentic Chinese restaurant, with a special menu for Chinese (if you want to try the authentic style try the small menu). Friendly staff and very nice environment. I will definitely go back again.

I called to make a reservation for 5 children and 3 adults, and the lady (which I believe is the manager) at the restaurant expressed concern about potential noise from the children, stating it's a restaurant and other patrons might be bothered. Her hesitation made me feel unwelcome despite planning a nice dinner with my family and friends. Additionally, she promised to call back to confirm the table but never did.

Excellent! For some reason there are few good dine-in Chinese restaurants in this area. So it's a little drive for us but it's totally worth it. It's tastefully decorated, good ambience, attentive service, the food is fabulous. I'd highly recommend 👌

I have been a customer of the Beijing for a long time and it seems to get better every time I visit. The staff make us feel at home, and the food is always 10/10 (especially the sweet and sour spare ribs). We will be back soon.

Brilliant food, and kind staff. I reccommend the lemon chicken paired with the egg fried rice, because, even though it's really simple, it's so good! I've been here a few times and can also recommend the aromatic duck and pancakes. My mum and I came together and we got two noodle dishes, and lemon chicken + rice to share. LOVELY! Staff are always walking around refilling water glasses and always offer another round of drinks. I ate enough to feed 4 people, so I think that's pretty self-explanitory. This restaurant survived covid and I hope to see it survive much more. Thank you to all the staff.

After a friend booked the restaurant for our group of four couples I was concerned after checking the TripAdvisor comments. In fact, we had a great evening and we had wonderful meals. The restaurant is obviously very successful and extremely well furnished with large round tables for small groups like ours. The food was varied and excellent and although quite expensive is good value for money. The only downside to the visit was the elderly lady who pushed and pushed for us to have deserts after we had starters (which were a meal in themselves) and main courses. The list of available deserts was suggested in detail and when that failed to get the appropriate reaction she moved on to a list of liqueurs and spirits we might like to finish with. She was obviously annoyed that her sales pitch wasn’t getting results, and it took the edge off what had been an enjoyable visit.

A glass of squash is £5.80 absolutely disgusting. The food was very average for the the price and not much flavour in any of it. Definitely do not recommend it

I have been to this restaurant a few times and been generally disappointed by the lack of flavour and the total incomprehension when I ask for dishes that have "chilli" in their description on the menu to actually contain some. Last night I asked for "Tofu with Szechuan Chilli Sauce", specifying at the time of ordering that I would actually like Tofu with Szechuan Chilli Sauce. In all my experience of Szechuan cuisine, chilli, ginger, garlic, and, heaven forbid, Szechuan peppers are prominent ingredients. When it arrived, I pointed out that it apparently contained no chilli or any evidence of being inspired by Szechuan cooking and asked for some chilli oil, which itself was hardly hot when it arrived. They then had the cheek to charge me extra for the chilli oil, which in my view was only necessary because the dish was not as described. They did remove the item from the bill with some reluctance saying that the dish was only supposed to have "a little bit chilli" but therefore by very definition was not as described. I am happy to send the restaurant some recipes from Fuschia Dunlop's excellent book, should they read this review.

Food is excellent. Service is a bit “off” and the attempted upsell on drinks quite comical (not surprising though when it’s about £6 for a coke). Whole thing is super expensive for what it is which is off putting. Egg fried rice? £8. For rice! Want 6 extra pancakes? £4. Then a service charge added

Lovely food, but can get noisy when busy

Having had a fab evening with family for my 51st birthday, which could of been anywhere as we always enjoy a get together, we found the restaurant over baring, staff hovering too much and constantly trying to sell more drinks! Food plentiful however missing on flavour, prices do match to any quality, very disappointing ☹️

Went as part of a large group, charged “buffet” but the food is served at the table. Service was poor, they only brought one bowl of finger cleaning water for a table of 11, and refused to bring another clean bowl of water despite asking numerous times. The children are charged £19 pounds for any one “under 10” my three year old ate 2 duck pancakes and a small serving of rice. There’s no children’s menu to cater for toddlers. Service charge is mandatory but the service is below par of what I would say deserves a tip. This is not a buffet but a cleverly controlled way of serving less food for the price of a buffet. I would not recommend this place at all.

Best Chinese food ever! The fried aubergine and Peking duck are the best.

We have visited this restaurant several times and the food is generally pretty good. Our issue with this restaurant is they are a bit funny about honouring their gift vouchers. We have purchased these as gifts for family members in the past. We have since been told that the restaurant won't accept two gift vouchers for the same visit - which is a bit odd as they should be treated like cash, not a money off voucher code or offer. We have also been told that they have been very strict regarding expiry dates. A family member was ill for a long period of time after receiving their voucher meaning they couldn't use it within a year of it being purchased. When they tried to use it a few weeks after it's expiry date there was no flexibility from the restaurant which seems very unfair. We won't be by buying gift vouchers from the Beijing again. We will give cash which doesn't expire.

We went there as a large family gathering of 11 adults and 3 children, when we arrived we weren't even shown to our table just pointed that's your table, sat down and the waitress asked what we would like to drink and obviously got bored of waiting as she only took 5 of our drinks order, upon the rest of our party's arrival the waitresses came over and asked what our ordered are , we placed our food order for the hole table and when the food came out only 2/3 of the order came out , we asked again and again when is the rest of the food coming out and got no answear just alot of confused looks and pretending to look busy , the final bill came to over £600 and for the overall quality of service considering the price I wouldn't even give it 1/10, rude service , poor food quality and I would 100% not go back , my local chinesse takeaway would of feed us ALL for £120 on a takeaway that is flawless and there would be left overs .

Ordered takeaway week ago, very small portions and was charged over £35 for one special fried rice and sweet and sour prawns. They charged me for delivery ( around the corner) + extra charged for small order .... Never experience that in the past !!! Will never order from this restaurant again 😒 Very poor customer service 👎

A really efficient restaurant with consistently good food. The food was so good I forgot to take a picture of it before we ate it, so here is a picture of it half eaten.

Early evening out with mum daughter and granddaughter. Booked evening out with just us ladies and young lady. Arrived at 6.30pm to an already busy restaurant. Was sat ordered and served food all within 10 mins, assume they were eager to get the table back. Order several dishes, 2 of these were sizzling mixed seafood dishes, one was a chilli dish which I was much looking forward to, only to be disappointed, the dishes were tasteless, don’t know how a seafood dish can be tasteless but it was. Politely spoke to a member of staff who said he would send a manager, manager came over was extremely rude, explained that we have been coming to the restaurant for years and never had an issue, her response to tasteless food was ‘ok, what do you want me to do take the food away and add salt’ when we said no, she simply turned and walked away. We then asked another very lovely waitress for some boxes to pack our food and leave. Presented with the bill with added service charges, I paid the bill of £130 but refused to pay the additional £13+ service charge, we left within 30mins of arriving. Congratulations you got your table back, they literally re-laid the table whilst we were paying the bill.

Most terrible experience I have visited this restaurant for years ! Tonight ordered many dishes. The food arrived at our table 5 minutes after ordering. The seafood dishes were very watered down and tasteless which I politely explain to the waiter. They got a manager who can over arms crossed and said ‘what’s the problem’ Again I politely explained and her response was ‘well it’s not true that you have been here many times as I have been here 30years and I’ve never seen your face’ I was fuming that she said this without even a simple apology or solution. Then went on to say we never receive complaints so that’s your opinion only and walked away. We packed up straight away all still hungry, they then brought the bill and had the cheek to add service which of course I refused, they then tutted at me and said well it’s on there. I will most certainly never ever visit this restaurant again £130 later and we left to go and eat else where

A lovely birthday evening! Food was delicious, freshly cooked and plenty of it. Set menus are a great help with plenty of variety! Felt slightly rushed on arrival - asked three times what drinks we wanted and we’d barely sat down! Would have liked a round table with the circular centre, but these are only for 6 + people. Toilet pans in ladies WC could do with a deep clean! A great place to go - plenty of parking, we will return!

The seafood dishes came and were extremely watery and tasteless. They proceeded to bring the bill and hand us a service charge which I refused, I got tutted at and told let me ask if I can take this off.. May I remind you service charge is not compulsory ! £130 later and still starving hungry. Food was also served 4minutes after ordering I will never ever visit this restaurant again ! You have lost a loyal customer due to your rudeness

We have been to this restaurant many times. The last two visits however were thoroughly disappointing. The staff are downright unfriendly and pushy. This evening we had 12 people for lunch, including three toddlers that ate perhaps two mouthfuls in total, and for this the manager in a very unfriendly tone insisted we pay £19 per child. She seemed totally disinterested in seeing logic and when I told her we would never come again, she shrugged her shoulders. Great service, not. We also had the impression that we were being constantly monitored to ensure we are not cheating them out of a meal. Never again. Goodbye Beijing in Guildford.

Been to this restaurant numerous times. The last two times have been absolutely awful. Food is not bad. Service and attitude of the staff is absolutely horrendous and you mostly feel as if they are doing you a favour for being there. Today we had a lunch for 12 family members, which included three toddlers (all younger than 2 years). The staff treated us like criminals trying to dodge payment, despite the fact that most of them know me there. The straw the broke the camels back was the mangers decision to charge the babies £19 each, for the three mouthfuls they had between them. When I spoke with her (manager), she simple shrugged her shoulders. Never again. Terrible atmosphere and staff.

Third time at this restaurant, and thought it would be nice to bring my local friend to experience chinese food, therefore going only on sunday as they offered the buffet option, allowing us to have a variety of options. The first time i was there, I was immediately offered the buffet option upon requesting, but this time when requesting the option, I was told by the waitress with pony tail and fair skin that it was catered to "white people" and it would be too sweet for my liking. However, I insisted on the buffet option and she went to speak to the "manager", which took like 5 seconds, before coming back and saying that the option was not available for us. While we looked at the menu on deciding what to eat, we decided to try again with another waitress to ask for the buffet option, and while she did want to give us the menu, as she walked away, she exchanged looks with the first waitress and never came back. The first waitress came back and gave us the menu unwillingly and walked off, which initiated negativity to the experience. While we eventually got our buffet option and food, we could not help but feel like we were unwelcomed, as servers avoided our table, and even when they came over, they gave us horrible attitude, by slamming the food on the table and clearly showed distaste to me and my friends. The double standards in this restaurant is simply unacceptable. Why would you promote the buffet option, serve the "white people" as your staff calls it and rejected the Asians who opt for the option? The whole experience was just horrible, even when we asked for the bill. The bill was placed on our table and it took us to stand up and walk to one of them serving at a table(which is not our job?) , before being able to have someone bring the card machine (which is so damn easy) to pay our bill. WORSE THING IS - SERVICE CHARGE IS MANDATORY (despite uk's optional law), they need to review this especially when it was a horrible experience. Even when I called the phone line given on a name card (address to Tammy Wong - Manageress), it was not the person who picked up, it was probably a staff and we were told that she was not in. The fact that majority of the staff were Asian and the service given by them to fellow asians are so trash, while they were all pretense and smiles in front of the locals, just irks me so much. How does a restaurant live up to its ethical responsibility when they are like this? This is exceptionally unprofessional, and it ruined our night and appetite. If any of my friends or like any one ask or even myself, I would not patronise this restaurant and tell my friends that unless you are local, they will be racist to fellow asians. from now on, BOYCOTT BEIJING RESTAURANT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I came to a lovely lunch. I was greeted by a girl who escorted me to a side and corner table. I asked her to change tables, and she told me that all the tables were full. The fact was that half the tables were empty. Her body language and her answer were done in an ugly way, and she was angry at my request. I decided to leave the restaurant.

Hello I would just like to start by saying that salt and garlic isn't nice when that's the only seasoning you have ,and when you have more salt then the sea so much so it drys your mouth out. but the worst thing about this place is the moody staff that have eaten so much of there salty food there faces and to stiff to smile and make you feel unwelcome and not like you stumbled into there house and try to get you out of there empty restaurant and we left some bad tasting food and the manager made us feel bad for not eating it would not recommend this place waste of £70 when you feel this sick other then this it was ok

Comfortable environment and friendly service

Three of us went for lunch, when they offer an 'all you can eat menu'. Two of us went for that, my daughter only wanted a bowl of their Egg Fried Rice, which has always been good in the past. She was playing sport after lunch so ordered from the a la carte menu. My choice of starter was the Spring Rolls, of which two were served. They were small and tasteless, so I was planning not to touch the second. My daughter asked if she could try, to offer her views. In a microsecond the waiter was at the table aggressively pointing out that that was not allowed without my daughter also paying for the 'all you can eat menu'. I get the principle, but what a poor customer experience. I am left wondering if my second uneaten Spring Role was destined to reappear at another table, as otherwise what is their loss? The place has changed for the worse, that is for sure, as the rest of the meal was only of average quality. I doubt we will go back.

Rather disappointed by the quality of food. A dinner for 2 persons, 3 dishes: garlic pork ribs, stew beef tendon, seafood noodles, white rice 1 portion, 1 Jasmin tea & an apple juice. Total bill £63-ish. Was prepared to pay £££, knowing everything is expensive… but the food quality was very very very poor. (Used to be good, had a few nice lunches there). The beef tendon dish was way over re-heated in microwave - dead dried, lots of lean, tough and dry cuts beef. 2-3 pieces of slightly softer ones, and 2 very small & chewy tendons! (When I commented to the staff about their over microwaved food, they didn’t even deny. My guess was right! But Seriously, I understand lots of 'stew dishes are pre-cooked and reheat. but...what’s so difficult to reheat over the stove properly?! You are a chinese restaurant. I’m speechless…). The Garlic Pork ribs were also bone dry & tough.Thou it looks like it just came out from a pot of very hot oil... but is so tough.. my jaw muscles had a good workout! Gave up after the first piece. Sigh…. Also, not forgetting to mention that they now charge £4.50 for fresh cut chillies, and £2.50 for chill oil per sauce dish size!!?! Yes! Sauce dish size, estimated a table spoon full? (Should it not come as a basic free condiments? Imagine paying for salt & pepper?). double sigh.... the only thing I honestly appreciates is that they informed us of the new implementations charges, which saved me some ££. Otherwise, the seafood noodles was decent & enjoyable. You (readers) guessed right. Nope… no thank you. ;)

Monday to Friday 12-2.30pm all you can eat buffet is back. Food was excellent and a good choice of dishes. Staff friendly and helpful.

The irony of Charing 50p to have a takeaway container on a £200 bill. Food is good, service is average shake its the only place that you can sit down and have a Chinese in Guildford.

If you’re happy paying £7.30 for egg fried rice - go for it! Nice place but expensive.

Another disappointing visit, used to come here once per month, now maybe once per year and the last 2 visits were poor service, prices really gone up. Restaurant was half full on Sat night, always used to be packed. Only good thing is the food tastes excellent albeit too much of it, cut the price and reduce the portion size and i may come back more frequently

Recently went to this restaurant with a family party of 9, after I booked I read some of the reviews and was concerned about what we might find, but I needn't have worried, the service was good and the food was well above average Chinese fare, we had a great time. Staff were helpful and attentive without being intrusive, there were several Chinese groups there which must tell you something about the place. There is also a special menu that you have to request that has more authentic Chinese food, which I recommend. All in all a very enjoyable experience at a good place to eat.

This restaurant is under the delusion that Service charge is compulsory. Hello, it is NOT You are loosing customers, get upto date with the laws in this country.

Who was impressed with the attentive and helpful waitering staff. The food is really good quality and reasonably priced. A great meal was had by all.

Food was really nice, but since it changed hands it's really lost its charm. The waiters are extremely rude and constantly keep circling around your table asking if you want champagne every 5 minutes. The prices have gone up 50% year on year. A family of 5 cost £300. It's a real shame as we used to love coming here on special occasions.
