Very lovely place, for chilling, people watching, and great food

I'm not im just nobody saying im saying has ever seen. :)

Wow, accidentally stumbled in here, so glad we did, amazing decor, our food and drinks were delicious, the people were great.

Unfortuntely the place seems to cater to a very specific crowd so we didn't feel very welcome, plus service was poor. Drinks and food seemed to be of very low quality so we won't be going back.

Popped in for a coffee before visiting 'The Box' yesterday but unfortunately there was no coconut milk available, only Oat or Almond which is massively processed and my partner can't drink. Place was very busy, complete lack of social distancing so we left rather disappointed.

Sat at table with my wife, brother and sister in law having spent a pleasant 2hrs in The Box. Watched staff serve others and clean tables for 25mins. Got fed up being ignored, so left. Well done, we had wonderful meal elsewhere, thanks.

Why this is an 'eco cafe' is a mystery. There is absolutely nothing eco about it. One of the worst menus in Plymouth and rip off drink prices. Avoid it.

First time away from my hometown Bristol in a year on Thursday. What an amazing night Beggar’s is! Cocktails are lush! Staff are amazing, friendly and very accommodating. Felt at ease with social distancing as well. Would definitely come back when next in Plymouth!

Would highly recommend! Myself and my partner visited Saturday night for a few drinks and some food for a date night. The bar staff were very friendly, bubbly and welcoming. There was plenty of amazing cocktails that I couldn’t wait to try. We had a lovely evening, good food and nice drinks I will definitely be going back soon.

After a hard day at work, some friends and I decided to go for a drink at beggar banquet. After many trips before, we were greatly disappointed by this evenings excursion. Firstly, I ordered two cocktails, and whilst waiting for them to be made, I heard large amounts of profanity behind the bar from who I assume was the manager. This was not welcomed and I thought it was rather rude customer service. She refused one of my friends ID due to a small bit of plastic coming off, and then when I proceeded to order, she ensured rudely that I would not share my drink. When I sat back down, we felt uncomfortable as she kept on waking by making sure I didn’t share my drink, and this made us leave as we were unwelcome. We shall not be returning any time soon and we’re unsatisfied with this trip.

Much like caffeine club, the service has always been good and the atmosphere is always pleasant no matter what time of day you visit.

Wonderful drinks, not very good food. However due to the setup of the area you can order drinks from Beggar's Banquet and food from Caffeine Club without any issue. The lighting in the area also seems off, and is often quieter than Caffeine Club, making the are feel less welcoming.

A great example of why a business should not be staffed by students

Absolutely incredible team of staff! The cocktails are amazing!!! And the atmosphere is so alternative and edgy but cosy and comfortable at the same time. Dog friendly and it's always so welcoming. Love going there!

First visit to the place nice warm day and thirsty so decided to stop for refreshments very friendly staff and gave good advice on what gin and tonic to have, Sat outside in the sun well worth a visit whilst the students are away.

Best place for a drink in the sun as the balcony is really nice. Prices are more than affordable and we received the best customer service from Abi, she should get a raise!

Wait is ridiculously long for drinks

I visited with my bf and a group of friends. We both ordered lemon meringue milkshakes and were severely disappointed. The milk and lemon had visibly separated, and appearenced to be curdling, creating something that tasted disgusting. We exchanged these for banana milkshakes, which were adequate. I ordered a Grilled Halloumi Jacket, which arrived after a 45 minute wait (20 mins after my bf's arrived). The potato was overcooked, with a burnt skin and tough insides, while the mushrooms were undercooked. The only good part was the halloumi itself. Not only was the food disappointing, the service was bad. The lady at the till we ordered from unapologetic, and the delivery of food was chaotic. When dishes did eventually arrived, the waiter and waitress called out for whose it was, ignoring the table numbers that we had given at the till. Additionally, we were handed countless plastic straws and had to ask to not receive any more when exchanging our milkshakes. For Plymouth, a city with amazing marine life facilities, I am disgusted that a local restaurant would so frivolously waste plastics. An overall bad experience.

2 for 1 cocktails - what's not to love?? Visited with friends for a couples' night out, and it was our first evening visit here. We had all eaten, so didn't get any food, but it was a great evening out. The 2 for 1 cocktails are to die for (keep the Beggars Iced Tea coming, please), my husband loved the draught Grolsch, and the two point milkshake was a real hit with our friends. A definite return visit is on the cards.

My gf and I ordered two Lemon M Milkshakes which tasted horrible. We returned them, and they gave us banana Milkshakes which tasted a lot better. Her food was half burnt/half undercooked. Providing four straws for two drinks isn't very good for the environment which unfortunately has to affect my rating as well. My food I found to be okay-good. Staff was very nice though. Only other complaint was that there was an extremely obnoxious group behind us which should have definitely been asked to calm down.

Love that this place is open 24/7 Their selection of teas is great. Food quality is constantly good. Majority enjoy that there is a variety of foods available all day and night Only wish that they offered WiFi

Overall the food was pretty good, if a little bland. Well cooked and presented so no complaints there. The cocktails were also great and the woman serving them behind the bar this evening was really lovely! Only complaints are that the waiter (a young guy in a tee-shirt that wasn't part of the uniform) brought my partner and I our wraps and when I asked which was which he replied 'I don't know' and walked away. We tried to figure out which was which but they were both (different) varieties of BBQ wrap and they were indistinguishable. So yeah, food tastes okay but there's nothing great about it, and although the bar staff were great the waiter/chef was honestly really rude.

I came in the other day and order a not on the menu item and was charged extra witch i dont mind.. anyway i order this a few months ago and a lady made it me it was great but now i seen she left im sad about that i really am but hey things change. But on my arrivle was something i did not ask for so i complained they brought the chef out of the kitchen a young boy and he was so rude not good. I given up got my money back but i did not say much but the guys hair is long and not in a hat or net i did find hair in my food. Also my napkin was wet like like someone used it gross.

Awesome place to go too, was really busy tonight due to bonfire night I believe but they all worked as hard as they could, food took a little while but they let us know the wait and was really worth it in the end. Regular customer, would definitely recommend.

There is a chilled, relaxing kind of vibe from the moment you enter. The music is chilled, the atmosphere is great and the staff are friendly. The rustic chips are to write home about and their selection of speciality tea's makes me get up and dance ( I love my tea).

A quiet, chilled, rustic little place, right behind the mess that is the new history centre. Somewhat dwarfed by its louder neighbour Caffeine Club, it's worth taking those few extra steps for somewhere quieter and less "overdone". Very dark inside, so struggled to read the menu, but it offers varied food choices for veggies and meat eaters alike. 2 for 1 cocktails on a specific range all day, every day is a steal. The Mediterranean steak salad was delicious, although there was nowhere near enough meat or substance, so I was glad I ordered the sweet potato fries (cup portion, couldn't have eaten a bowl) to bulk it out. The fries were outstanding@ hot, crispy, non-greasy, and utterly delicious. More please!

This place has great food and decor BUT!!! they play 2 totally different music tracks in what is essentially a shared room (upstairs) with next door!!! We set up there for a long (3hr) game before realising this - both stereos were so loud you couldn't even try and mentally drown one out. We couldn't move downstairs so it was stay and put up with it or drive to somewhere else, 2 ppl left! How anyone running that place could think that's ok, playing no music than that would be better :-/

Food was alright, however couldn't finish alot of it as I'd underestimated serving size so i asked for it to be taken away. Once I got home however, realised they'd stolen 75% of what I'd ordered and left me with a pathetically small amount left to take home. Which is basically just stealing my money as I'd paid for the full amount, not to eat some at the restaurant, then have 15% of the 75% I had left to take home? Basic theft, but other than that, nice decor, alright food, good beer.

Came In for a late night meal and milkshake on the 25/07/17. The chef made a yummy salad to go with the 'Reggae Chicken and Bacon Jacket' meal. Definitely will be going again :). Thank you :) x

Nice location, friendly accomodating staff

I love this place it's the go to to meet friends before a heavy night out but recently just before the refurbishment they started to play music very loud and I don't think that beggars should be like that, it's more of a chill zone. Finally I was in the other day (sat 24th) and the guys working were hilarious, couldn't remember their names but one was bald and had glasses and the other short hair and a medium sized beard very nice guys :)

Found the overall experience to be pretty decent. The staff were friendly and the cocktails were pretty nice. Depending on where you sit really does dictate your enjoyment, noticed people were having to manoeuvre a lot towards the Caffeine Club side of the venue but I guess that'll happen in a lot of places that are busy. Overall was happy and would recommend.

They have recently opened the flat roof area as an al fresco bar and eating area. You can look south down to the Art College or north west into and across the back aspect of the extensive building works on the old library and art gallery. Better than in the old days when developers used to cut holes in fences to let the public peer into work sites.

Great place to hang out and have a few cocktails and food !! Great sunny spot ! Burgers - breakfasts - salads and wraps ! Loads on the menu to choose from ! And new exciting milkshakes and real fruit smoothies !!

Went to beggars yesterday for breakfast it was amazing so tasty piping hot brilliant service and the manager faith is polite and very welcoming and helpful will defiantly be going back 5********

Had a beautiful and tasty breakfast which was piping hot, Complements to the chef. Lovely fresh produce and the food arrived in not to much time at all. The manager (faith) is extremely pleasant and helpful with any of your needs. Will be returning and letting people know about the place.

I nipped out on my lunch break to get a take away salad from here I had the Teriyaki chicken salad and added some avocado ... it was A M A Z I N G !! Fresh, great Portion size, filing and just juicy!! Definately one of my favourite so far xx

I enjoy coming here after work or just to catch up with friends! Ive had quite a few dishes here and i have enjoyed it every time.

Slightly too hipster to be a great venue but good for the start of the night to ease you in or for casual drinks with friends.

Tried Beggars Banquet for the first time, the decor is similar to Caffeine Club which is OK, the waitress was polite. I ordered the pitta and humous and my boyfriend ordered the breakfast. I got about 5 times more humous than I did pitta which meant loads was wasted, my boyfriends egg was completely hard, the mushroom was only half and raw, it was all ready greasy and just unpleasant. Will not be returning for a meal here again.

I used to visit all of the time in the summer, but everytime I visit Beggars, it gets worse. there is no consistency with the drinks. I ordered a pint and had to ask to fill it up a bit more (and for the price, you expect a decent pint like you get in Air Bar).

One of the only places I've been where the food has been priced correctly for what it is. I had savoury pancakes (pancakes with free range eggs, bacon and honey or maple syrup) which left me satisfied, my boyfriend had a the beggars breakfast. It was a bit on the small side (for him) but was priced accurately! The menu was honest about what it could serve, ie gluten free, free range eggs etc and had a wide range of soft, alcoholic and hot drinks the chose from. The staff were friendly and the food came out within 10 minutes of ordering. All in all, a good experience.

Service was terrible. Took almost an hour for an egg on toast, which were cooked terribly. It's a nice location and the seating is good but that's about it. If youre in a hurry for some lunch, don't bother.

I've been here a few times and I absolutely love the sweet potato fries! I've also had the halloumi wrap and that was amazing too! The tall guy behind the bar is always lovely and polite!

Having spent a few hours on over 15 visits: normally lunchtimes. The ambience is significantly higher when the manager is not around/smoking over the road/on phone. No CRM. All other staff excellent.

I visited here with friends and alone, I can highly recommend the halloumi dish with quinoa, excellent, as were the rustic chips. Pleasant staff, quick and friendly service. Even though this place may appear to be a haunt for students, it is not exclusively as there was a good mix of people of all ages when I was there.

Popped in for an after dinner drink and was pleasantly surprised. Despite being the heart of student land there was a varied mix of people drinking and eating. The food looked great, although we didn't eat but would definitely go back for an early evening dinner. Casual, trendy and loved the decor.

I think this place is geared up for students, dimly lit shabby retro vibe with very loud eighties music (when I was there at least). But I was looking around Plymouth for some veggie food and got served up a very nice veggie burger with chips and salad and a pint for about a tenner. Not bad. The food was served in an enamel baking tray with the chips in a mug and salad in two glass bowls (beetroot was a bit tired). It's pretty close to the Uni and the Drake shopping centre and there's parking in the street. I would probably go there again.

Take it from a nacho specialist these are the best nachos you will find , LOADS of chilli with fresh tomatoes, onion, peppers on top of a generous amount of tortilla chips and then SMOTHERED with loads and loads of cheese. THE BEST .little side pots of guacamole,salsa & sour cream YUM

I really enjoyed the chicken and bacon burger I ordered and the "beggars on the beach" cocktail was very fruity and enjoyable.

Me and my friends came here for a stage with erasmus. Every evening we found a pub for a beer and the last week we found this fantastic local.

I love this little cafe. Healthy food at a good price and the opening times are fantastic. Only had good experiences. Staff have always been very friendly and I come back frequently.

In the premises behind the library/museum and next door to Caffiene Club this place was previously called PopUp and the Jam Jar but has now reopened or been rebranded as Beggar's Banquet Eco Hub which is together with its signage an in your face statement of bold intents. We came past tonight and it was bright and lively. We shall come back another day venting soon or even in daylight to give it a more thorough go.
