Best place for chicken and chips & a nice cup of tea. Yeah the cafe looks run down but the food is brilliant, what you would expect from a greasy spoon. The chips are the best, try them you will not be disappointed

Visited Halifax on a Sunday & most places weren't open so we were glad when we chanced upon this greasy spoon. We loved the retro feel of it, so went in for a full breakfast & a spam sandwich. You order at the door, pay, then find a seat. With a coffee & a bottled soft drink, everything we ordered came up to £12.30. There are seats on the ground floor and also on the first floor. The tables & chairs were really old style & the carpets were super grimey - which completed the authentic greasy spoon look & feel! The cafe seems really popular, with a steady stream of customers. Service was friendly & quick. The breakfast came with 2 sausages, 2 bacon, 1 egg, 1 slice of spam, mushrooms, beans & tinned tomatoes. There were two slices of buttered toast on the side. The spam sandwich came in a massive barm. There were three thin slices of spam in the sandwich. The bacon was cooked well & browned enough, the sausages weren't too bad & were not the mushy, cheap variety. Mushrooms were in thin slices & browned nicely, spam would have been nicer if more crisp. The toast was thick & comforting & the spam sandwich felt hearty & filling. We couldn't resist getting the apple pie with custard (£3) after our brunch. The crust was a tad hard and it could do with more apple filling, but it was a nice, sweet treat to end our meal with. Some niggles: The menu price for the full breakfast was £4 for the sausages, bacon, egg & beans or tomatoes. Other items were priced at 60p extra per item. The staff didn't really check with us what items we would like - while the mushrooms, spam & toast were welcome, we wouldn't really have wanted the tomatoes. All in all, we enjoyed our visit to Beefeater. It's defo worth checking out when you're in town!

Just been today, with my Wife, Sister and Nephew. We had a good time, the food was exceptionally good. My Nephew liked the fish Sea Bass Filet in that case, my Sister had and myself had the Old Gate burger with chips, my Wife had the Guijon Chicken Burger. The Waiter was not pushing ( specifically with the bill ) at all All in all very good

Disappointing food. Had the haddock and there was a very small piece of fish in a soup of Hollandaise sauce. Half of the mains were not available.

A lovely traditional pub steeped in local history that for the last few years has suffered from a revolving door of short lived landlords without a clue. What a refreshing change then to see that the Hinch' has finally got new landlords (Oct2024) who clearly know how to run a pub. Within a short period of time they have successfully managed to breathe new life into what had become a tired and soulless place to eat and drink. On the two occasions we've been since the Hinch reopened we've been super impressed with the food. In fact the cheese and onion pie might well be the best pie l've tasted in the Calder Valley (or ever!) and the flavourful and plentiful Sunday Roast offering was a cut above your usual pub ‘roast’ offering. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the food if you’re looking for somewhere to eat - especially when it comes without the hassle of parking in Hebden Bridge. On each occasion we’ve been, the Hinch was busy with drinkers and diners which is great to see. The trade off is you've only got the choice of Manchester owners JW Lees’ own branded mystery beer offerings. Forget the craft-ale revolution, or the fact that Vocation brewery is literally 5 mins away, the solitary guest beer offering here is San Miguel. I guess you can't have everything, but at least the food and atmosphere more than makes up for it!
