A friend and I had the champagne afternoon tea on a Saturday and it was a really lovely afternoon with great service, tasty food and relaxing surroundings - we'll both recommend to others. There were many more guests or day visitors in the hotel but as there's a range of reception rooms, it never felt remotely crowded or noisy. We had the standard sandwiches/scones/patisserie but we noticed others with variations so it seems that dietary needs can be catered for easily. Wide range of teas and plentiful hot water top ups. An all round great experience.

My husband and I had an overnight stay at Beechfield. We were immediately impressed by the beautiful grounds and imposing house. Our room was immaculate. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were very good quality linen. A pet bed and treats were left for our dog ( who was even allowed into the dining room). After a comfortable night's sleep, we enjoyed a lovely breakfast, served freshly cooked and hot. The staff was helpful and friendly. Looking forward to a return visit.

I booked Beechfield House as a venue for a funeral reception, so not a joyous occasion and I was concerned that it would take place with no problems to add to a stressful time. All arrangements ran smoothly. Teas, coffees and soft drinks were ready on arrival for those guests who couldn't stay long. The food was varied and plentiful and tasted lovely. Dietary requirements were catered for well. Staff were attentive and responsive to guests with mobility issues. Thank you Adrian and all staff at this lovely venue.

We booked Beechfield House for a family afternoon tea to celebrate a 70th and 65th birthday. It was all booked confirmed and even menu's agreed the day before. The relation organising this then got a message less than 3 hours prior to us arriving to be told the Chef was ill and the booking was cancelled. Firstly you would think that with all the to do with Covid that businesses would be sensible enough to have a stand by Chef's for this sort of occasion when they have booked people already. Secondly to compound their inability to plan for mishaps or illness to almost certainly ruin someone's celebration at such short notice is totally unforgiveable. We were lucky that a member of our party was staying at a hotel in Holt and they stepped in at the last minute. They were excellent and I will be reviewing them to ensure that people in this area take up their great food and excellent venue and staff. On the other hand, we will not be gracing the Beechfeild House with our presence ever again, which with their planning and poor excuse won't be a problem to them.

Perhaps we were lucky, but we had an excellent Sunday lunch here today. I don't mind paying £30 for 3 courses if you feel like you're getting something a bit special, and we did. Great food presented in a posh restaurant sort of way, decent amount of it, great service, in a lovely setting. A service charge (10%) is added by default, which personally I prefer. A couple of negatives, relatively minor - my wife had the pork loin, and was expecting something a bit like a chop but without the bone - a pork loin steak I guess. But it was served as thin slices. Decent amount, just not really what you want in a Sunday lunch. Or is that just us? The other thing was the 'music' - horrible inane elevator poppy stuff playing in the background. To be fair it was fairly low level so you might not notice it, but if you did... It didn't fit in with the upmarket feel of the place. If you need to have some music on (and that's arguable) at least make it something classy. I love my (proper) pop/rock but for posh restaurant background music it's got to be classical. Almost lost a star for that :)

SUCH SUCH a disappointment... I had booked and arranged a lovely night's stay, booked the best room for such a special occasion, I had called to make sure the pool was open and booked into the restaurant all was confirmed the pool was open and dinner booked, we arrived handed a sheet of paper outlining all the facilities had to offer and said the pool was open, and handed our keys for our bedroom, there was no help with luggage, went to go swimming and the pool had a cover over with many leaves so not in operation and not going to be open, and I was told that because of the cold weather it would be too expensive to heat the pool, which is why they kept it SHUT, they did not know when it will be open!! A party was going on in the lounge area which they then went into the back restaurant, all seemed fine but went for pre dinner drinks no staff on to serve you as busy with the large party, so went to the restaurant and waited and waited, the menu is meant to be fabulous .... ordered and finally food arrives and the scallops had so much sand in them and the lamb you needed to find this with a magnify glass, they were more concerned with the party in the back restaurant, and we we were not the only ones complaining and still no apology, we left the food with another couple still complaining, and went to bed and then the party continued into the reception room underneath our bedroom, I tried calling reception the phone did not work, I went down and everyone had gone home so the party continued till gone midnight, the breakfast was very poor and will never understand how they even got into "The Good Hotel Guide...I have tried calling the owner directly before writing this and and was happy to wait to speak to Chris Whyte but he refused to answer my call and told me to email reception, how they can have the acclamation's they have beggar's belief.

Afternoon tea for 60th wedding anniversary. Food was nice, decent afternoon tea selection. The only sad part of our visit was that the gentleman celebrating, went to pay and was greatly overcharged. Old afternoon tea price charged and big mix up over deposit and room charge, marred the visit completely. He is elderly and upset and bemused him and his wife’s celebration. Appreciate these things happen but had to wait until the next day to sort, as staff on duty were unable to sort, therefore having to communicate to manager. A refund was actioned but I fell they missed the point on how much the whole thing upset the celebrants and lack of apology directed to them.

The dining room was also the breakfast room which is of course fine, however the huge central buffet table (which i understand can't be moved) and no tablecloths on the tables left a soulless evening dining experience that lacked any feeling of effort. When i mentioned this to the manageress i was told the table was left there to put the menus on, and when i questioned this ridiculous excuse i was met with a 'whatever' attitude !!! Really, a 12ft long buffet table for half a dozen printed A4 sheets of paper, the table should at least be dressed for the evening as the cost of dining is not reflected in the ambiance of the room, it was all very 'cold'.

16th October 2021 Arranged dinner with a business associate (and wives) and was very disappointed in what I had originally thought was a quality establishment, The car park is unlit with little ambient lighting which does not help when the car park was full and looking for somewhere safe to leave my vehicle. We were then invited to have pre-dinner drinks in a soulless room where we were then shown the only and a very limited menu. [No Steak, Lamb, chicken] We were then shown to our table which was in a room with 4 tables, one occupied by a lady with two very small children who were obviously tired , bored and did not want to be there. At this time of night small children should catered for earlier sittings or in a child friendly room. The ambiance in this room was non existent and our conversations had to stop on many occasions due to the noise being generated by the children, not exactly what is expected late on a Saturday night at what I thought was a high quality country hotel. The only plus point was that the food was good but it was expected to be for the high charges. Over £60 per head with minimal drinks. To complete the evening. I nearly fell down the steps to the hotel on the way out due to the lack of lighting!1 Very disappointing and I will not be returning. Lesson learnt to read and note recent reviews contained in consumer websites.

Our experience was bettered by the staff, from cleaning staff to management staff. Can’t remember when my husband was last called ‘Sir’ one con, and only a little one, dining for breakfast one morning dogs allowed in the dining room, not a problem we love animals, but perhaps house other dogs in another of the rooms, mixing dogs, barking and obvious upset of animals caused upset and didn't aid my digestion. The location and surroundings are fantastic,as were the people who served us. Sadly the food was poor. My wife and I selected the A La Carte menu which offered only a small selection. We selected smoked salmon to start ehich was fine bearing in mind no cooking was involved. Then I chose lamb which was nicely cooked and very tasty. My wife had the cod which was tasteless. I had panna cotta for a dessert which was overly sweet and had no taste. Finally my bill included a service charge. Despite being locals we will not be visiting again.

We had been warm warmly yet quite formally greeted and felt almost like the Lord of the Manor. We had 2 servings of the afternoon tea - sandwiches and scones were delicious. Out of a group of 13 of us we had 1 gluten free, and 1 vegan, yet the rest of the group had to have plain sandwiches, bland cakes and inedible scones. We didn't get any choice of specialities teas as advertised, and after talking through our concerns with the manager, we felt like we were almost blamed for having special dietary requirements in the group. I took my mother here on Mother's Day, along with my sister. We booked in advanced, specified that I was vegan and they advised that the chef would be more than willing to cater for me. Brilliant! Arrived on the day to find they didn't have a reservation for us. They apologised and squeezed us into a little side room. The room itself was very nice however due to being out the way, the service we received was shocking. Not once were we asked if we'd like another drink and as we were out of the way it was hard for us to grab someone's attention. As they had missed us off their reservation list, the chef then had no idea he had a vegan to cater for. They served me a starter of one new potato cut up small and some beetroot and rocket with a bit of drizzle. My main was a dry mushroom pasta dish with some oil to moisten it. My mother and sisters meal was better than mine but they weren't blown away by it. We did complain as we weren't happy with the whole experience from start to finish and for the cost £32.50 for my meal, I really didn't think it was worth it. On top of being forgotten and lack of service in general. They deducted our bill by £10.00. They also added a 10 or 15% service charge (I can't remember exactly) which I thought was awful. I took the service charge off myself, paid the remainder and left. Overall it wasn't a great experience and given that it was supposed to be a lovely day for my mother, I was even more annoyed. The staff weren't great and we weren't offered an appropriate compensation in my opinion. I've also noticed they leave quite snotty remarks on other bad reviews here on Trip Advisor which I think also shows their bad attitude towards customers.

It was my wife's big birthday celebration lunch and we booked a private room at Beechfield house. After reading reviews online, maybe we were expecting too much. The celebration lunch certainly didn't live up to expectations. We cannot fault the room and decor but that's where the positives stop. The food. Well, it was beautifully presented but there was so little of it. A couple of our guests had pork belly - there were no vegetables. We waited for them to come but no, there were no vegetables. Other guests looked longingly at their plates and commented that there was very little food. We all had a three course meal but left thoroughly disappointed and hungry. The service. Poor poor poor. We felt we'd been forgotten about at times and I had to chase staff to clear plates between starters and mains. The staff were very young and seemed quite robotic and didn't engage with us. I would have hoped a more senior member of staff would have overseen such a lunch celebration. Finally, we left with a very bad taste in our mouths. What was meant to be a special celebration lunch for a special birthday fell very flat. We won't return but as time has moved on, we now laugh about just how bad it was.My dear elderly mother who was at the lunch even commented in jest that she certainly didn't want her wake there and Beechfield House was her preferred option.

When the visit starts with a large bird of prey flying a few feet from the car bonnet on the hotel drive you just know it's an exceptional afternoon. It was an afternoon spent in idylic surroundings, a country house, a log effect gas fire and a sumptuous afternoon tea.My wife and I were confronted by a table, covered in a white linen cloth and a settee in front of the fire and to the side a view across the parkland. Staff are always most couteous and attentive and today was no exception. Orders for tea taken my wife and I settled into the comfort of our surroundings. The Earl Grey was very good, with thin sliced lemon and a water pot for topping up. Finger sandwiches were sumptuous with very moist and fresh bread and high quality fillings in enough quantity to be really tasty and succulent. Once the four fingers were eaten, and the ham was outstanding, attention turned to the middle of three plates on the stand. One fruit scone and one plain scone each and jolly good they were with copious cream and jam, we didn't care about Devon or Cornwall, Cream first then the lovely thick and flavoursome jam on top. Ten minutes and that plate was cleared and next came the turn of four small cakes for each of us. The lemon drizzle was a winner for us both though everything else was supreme, especially the juicy marons. The price is top end locally, but so was the quality and given the classic surroundings and friendly staff it is good value overall, especially if you just want to take an hour or two in a past age away from the hustle a few hundred yards away. We've now booked lunch, watch for the update, we are expectant of a great meal!

Myself and my partner chose to dine at Beechfield House on Saturday evening. Not a special occasion but a little treat,, and that's what this place is -- a treat. When we walked in the welcome was warm and friendly. We were seated in the bar (open fire) to chose our meals and then taken to one of the three dining rooms when our food was about to be served. The food was delicious and immaculately presented throughout. The portion size, whilst not large, was perfectly adequate and one could tell that a lot of thought and care had gone into the making of these dishes and they were a delight to eat. My starter was served with Jerusalem artichokes , only briefly blanched and diced--I have only had them roasted before but this was a revelation, and certainly something that I will be using at home! The place itself is in idyllic surroundings , a true gem. It has lovely well kept and designed gardens to the outside. The inside is decorated with panache, encompassing many stylish touches whilst remaining light and airy - no mean feat in a building like this.It was a pleasure to dine here and will be recommending it to my friends. I can't wait to try it in summer to see the grounds looking their best!Thank you Beechfield House.

A friend gave us an afternoon tea voucher for this hotel for our Golden Wedding. Took several attempts to try to book it as they always some other event on and couldn't fit us in. Finally went yesterday at a time suitable for THEM. The layered tray looked lovely as the waiter put it on the table but then the disappointment. The afternoon tea sandwiches, which I had expected to be thinly sliced bread with interesting fillings turned out to be stale, thick-sliced bread with a very thin layer of filling. The opposite of what an afternoon tea sandwich should be.The scones were more like bread rolls than scones - although one upside was that they were fresher than the bread. When the waiter came to ask if everything was OK, I pointed to the worse piece of bread (actually hard to the touch) that I had left uneaten and said that the bread could have been fresher. He tested it with his finger, agreed and said he would take it to his manager and removed it. When we were leaving I asked the waiter what his manager had said, as he hadn't offered any response. He murmured that they have to make the sandwiches early and they dry up - What! have they never heard of cling film. However, I don't buy that because the bread was really stale, not just dried up.I got the impression that Beechfield House had had the money from my friend in advance and really didn't give two hoots to my complaint about the bread. The cakes were fine if a little too sweet and gooey. We didn't eat all the cakes and 'scones' so asked to take them home. These were wrapped in tinfoil for us - so just one brownie point. My advice would be not to buy afternoon tea vouchers from this establishment. I think if we had just popped in for afternoon tea they would have taken my complaint more seriously because I could have refused to pay for them.

Visited last weekend for 2 nights as birthday treat for myself and my boyfriend. We were a little disappointed that the evening menu was so limited (3 starter options and 3 main options) however as the bar menu is also available to order from, this gave us more choice. As a result of highlighting this to reception, they laid on a special birthday menu for us (special thank you to the chef) and even made us a birthday cake. This was a lovely thoughtful surprise and was much appreciated. We also understand that the chef is new and for him to go to this extent for us so soon into a new role is very impressive. The food was stunning! The new chef clearly cares about the food and I look forward to returning and seeing how things have improved even further since he has joined the team.

Overrated is the word I would choose to describe the food here, or was the kitchen just having an 'off' day? The meal started off well for me; a delicious crab starter of hand picked white crab meat surrounded by a superb tomato soup. My partner had confit duck breast which was done well and tasted great but was served with (I can't remember what the restaurant called it) a bizarre type of sweet/sour ice cream , it just didn't work, especially in the depths of winter. My partners' main was good, a butternut squash risotto, however, the goats cheese fritter that it came with was bland and certainly didn't taste of goats cheese-it also looked like a giant flying saucer had crash landed into the middle of the risotto. I had pork belly with crispy confit pork ball. The 'crispy' crackling, sadly, was like a thick piece of leather and made the dish totally inedible as I couldn't even get my knife through it. The waitress did return it to the kitchen and the chef agreed it wasn't right but said if he replaced it it would be just the same and could I order something else. I ordered the sea bass fillets. (The only other thing on the menu apart from the risotto). This could have been good had it not been vastly over seasoned. I like my salt but this was way over the top. By this time my partner had finished his main course and options were limited. I decided to eat it but was very thirsty for a long while afterwards and my lips still dry the following day. Deserts were very well presented but lacked the wow factor in taste. The venue is absolutely lovely in a lovely part of the country. Both the building and decor were very well suited-stylishly understated. The staff were very pleasant and professional, however, for a restaurant purporting to be at this at this level, I would of thought a gesture of goodwill towards the bill would have been appropriate, as opposed to the additional 10% that was charged for service. There was only one other couple dining which made the atmosphere somewhat lacking.I have awarded two out of 5 as I feel this is a fair overall score, all things considered.

I had afternoon tea with 6 friends yesterday afternoon and was very disappointed, I went home and had cheese and biscuits as I was still hungry. For £22.50 the offerings were very meagre, 2/3 sandwich fingers each, 1 scone each, 1 apple pastry each, 1 tiny piece of chocolate brownie each and 1 tiny piece of something else. We had to go and find someone to ask for more tea which we waited 20 minutes for and we also had to ask for some more jam and cream as there wasn't enough to go around, this also took a long time to be served. I appreciate that they were busy but that is not the customers problem. The setting is beautiful and we enjoyed each other's company but overall I would not recommend to other friends. I expected the plates and tea to be replenished without having to ask. I did not like to complain at the time as it was meant to be a birthday treat.

We had our second Family Christmas lunch in the Music Room at Beechfield House on Sunday 4th December. We were 16 in total and I must say that the food and service was of a very high standard and included Gluten Free and Dairy Free options. It was also very competitively priced. It is a lovely setting for a family get-together. We met for drinks in the sunny drawing room, with glowing wood fire before going into the Private Dining Room. The staff were very welcoming and Gaelle on Reception was very helpful with the billing. Maria the Assistant Manager quickly sorted out a small concerns we had in a most friendly and professional way. Thank you Beechfield. We'll be back!

Myself and four family members booked the beechfield for afternoon tea, to celebrate my sisters 50th birthday. We had been there two years previously and found it really nice, hence we booked it again. On arrival we were shown to a room on the left hand side of the reception. As we walked into the room, the cold temperature gave us all a chill. We asked the waiter if he could do anything. He closed the blinds at our suggestion and told us he was hot!!! Nothing else was mentioned. It was so cold I had to change places with one of my sisters. She then became as cold as me. Further to this there was a bucket in the room catching water from a ceiling leak. A real eye sore! When the food came the sandwiches were all dried up. The scones were so hard they actually crunched when you ate them. The worst thing was there attitude when later that day it was brought to there attention. Apparently we could have had a radiator!! Why didn't they suggest it at the time. No apology for the quality of the food. Actually making false claims that they gave us extra. They were not at all sorry that they'd ruined my sisters birthday treat. They do not offer quality or service of a four star establishment. Shame on you Beechfield House.

We had an elderly friend who was celebrating a birthday and she wanted to go to somewhere she had not visited before. We live in Bath and it was about a 25 minute drive mainly through pleasant countryside to Beechfield House. This delightful country hotel has a long driveway off a main road. This leads up to the 25 bedroom hotel and restaurant. The weather was not the best, it was cloudy and showery but the gardens still looked good being tidily maintained even in autumn. The staff made us very welcome and we settled in for a pre-lunch drink in a spacious bar area with large fireplace and mantelpiece overlooking the main garden area. We carefully selected our dishes with our Birthday Girl selecting peasant which is a dish she would normally eat very often. Our charming waiter took us through to the dining room when it was ready to be served. He had overheard us saying it was a special birthday and he had thoughtfully scattered the fresh linen tablecloths with birthday sparkles. A nice friendly touch. All our dishes were excellent although I would mention if it was a man eating there he might find the portions rather on the small side. Everything was delicious. The spacious dining room which was tastefully decorated for Christmas overlooked a large paved patio area which would be a delightful spot in the summer. In fact we vowed we would go back there for afternoon tea one day in the summer.A very satisfactory visit overall and we felt we would return again. Thank you Beechfield House!

This is the second time that we have used Beechfield House for a team dinner with accommodation. When you arrive up the winding drive you know you are in for a treat. Check in for 12 guests was effortless thanks to the organisation of the team. Bedrooms have everything you need, lots of space and spotlessly clean. Breakfast and dinner was delicious and plentiful, with a good varied choice to cater for all needs. I would like to thank Gaelle, Joel and the rest of the team for making our stay perfect!Hope to return in 2017.

I booked a Sunday Lunch for my mother's 96 Birthday. We have been here many times to lunch and afternoon tea. Ten days after having booked they phoned to say they had overbooked and we're cancelling my booking. The excuse used was the girl who took my booking was a trainiee. Sorry this was not good enough, the young lady asked me what time I wanted to book lunch and I said 1pm she said she did not think they could do that and would speak to someone I was put on hold and then she came back to say they could fit us in at 12.45. So I booked it. It took them 10 day to come back to me and now it's too late for me to book another good venue. My mother was upset when I told her. Needless to say I won't booking Beechfield again.

We booked the garden room for our training event with 32 people, seated in a horseshoe shape with no tables. We love this room because it has access to the garden, and lovely windows looking out - it is light, bright and airy. The facilities are handy and beautiful. The service is excellent, and the buffet at lunchtime was superb - not a boring sandwich lunch, a whole range of hot and cold dishes - and a delicious chocolate tart for pudding! If you need to impress your guests, I can highly recommend Beechfield House.

Beechfield House hosted my mother's birthday lunch for our family in the Music room. The venue was ideal for this special occassion and all the staff made a special effort with my mother. The food was excellent and the staff were very attentive and efficient with an associated smooth running service. I had organized this from the US via e-mail with the Events manager, Gaelle and her and her team really made the day go seamlessly. With having young children the option of a private room allowed the children a little more freedom than in the main restaurant and their different food requirements were very well met by the chef and his team. The Sunday lunch was superb and the in house made Birthday cake a real treat. All in all a very enjoyable and memorable lunch and a sincere thanks to the team for making the occasion so enjoyable.

We have twice before had afternoon tea here, the first time, four years ago it was £12.95 and excellent, a year later it was £15.95 and still excellent. So we have a friend staying on their first visit to UK and we thought we'd have a Sunday afternoon tea. The website said that the tea is now £19.95, when the menu was put in my hand it was £22.50. Now it has to be said the location is amazing, the ambiance special and the service good, but the food was very poor value. There was a great selection of teas, extra water provided from the off and readily replenished later on request. The sandwiches were on thick sliced bread, the white bread was dry. The Wiltshire ham wasn't present, the cheese in cheese and tomato was various shapes and thicknesses, a Sainsburys cheese and tomato sandwich would have been preferable. Last two occasions we had two medium scones each, this time it was one each and then it varied between fruit and plain scones. Highlight were three small cakes each. A while ago my wife and I had an afternoon tea at a local garden center, it was both better quality and better value at £25 for two rather than almost £75 for three (Service was pre-added, though service was good). Irony was that we'd had a very good roast sirloin lunch earlier in Devizes at £65 for three including drinks and soups. As we had booked tea a few days earlier and we had a nice coffee table laid up near the fire in the lounge it felt like the food was a last minute thought and the person preparing it with little previous experience. It will be a long time before we return.

I would like to say thank you very much for the wonderful service we received on Friday for our wedding breakfast, which was small but no less important. The venue was ideal for this special day; though not staying in the hotel, we were taken care of as if we were. The room and table were beautifully laid out. Though a small a la carte menu for 1pm, we were impressed with the quality of food we received; each plate of food was presented exquisitely and included small sensations to surprise us, which they did. There wasn’t a lot on the plate but it was sufficient and the quality meant we enjoyed every tiny bit and we didn’t leave anything at all! The chef(s) can be very proud as their skills really showed; we were most impressed. The staff were very efficient and professional, mirroring the standard of the food. What else can I say? Thank you for making my special day complete.

A good place for something a little different, such as foie gras with pistachio ice cream! Overall very high quality and excellent service. Restaurant was very atmosphereless the night we went but it was a Monday. The room appears to be a new extension and contrasts with the lovely bar and lounge rooms. Wine at <£5 per glass very good value but the lack of sparkling wine e.g. Prosecco by the glass is a bit of an oversight. Only champagne at £12 offered.Portions small so go for the 3 courses, expect to pay about £100 for two.

There is no doubt that the location and building are beautiful. What a shame then that the meal eaten there today was a huge disappointment. Firstly, the staff were sullen, in fact miserable would be a better adjective to use. Our meal was served quickly however the risotto ordered, pea and mint, was served on its own in a white bowl and looked very unappetizing, and lonely. I say lonely because the portion as a main course was small with no added side dish or anything to brighten this dish and make it look more appealing. Unfortunately it was not cooked properly either with the rice under-cooked and very little flavour. The meal had to be returned to the kitchen and a fresh risotto prepared. The replacement was quickly delivered with what seemed a larger portion, the texture and taste however remained very disappointing. My husband ordered a desert of poached pear with pistachio ice-cream. When the plate arrived it held a very green half pear but no ice-cream. I had to go in search of a member of staff to ask where the remainder of the dish was, a small dish of ice-cream was then brought, which was delicious. My desert was described as an apple and blackberry crumble with thick custard. Another huge disappointment, the custard was cold and starchy, it tasted as though it had not been cooked thoroughly. There was 1 blackberry and the apples were, in fairness, beautifully cooked. The crumble however was oat based and not the traditional crumble I had expected. By this time I was past the point of further complaint so I just ate part of this pretty awful dish. I have been to Beechfield previously for lunch and it was really nice. Despite the beauty of the house and grounds this visit left me feeling extremely disappointed with no desire to return.

Staying here was part of a package which was included in a Classic hire and they picked the hotel and I don't think they could have picked a nicer one. We added another night and really pleased we did. First night we ate in the restaurant and the second in the lounge area and both meals where superb. The staff where all very friendly and nothing was a problem. The gardens looked terrific and we actually spoke to the head gardener who was very happy to tell us about what as been carried out in the last 12 months. Our room was spotlessly clean and wow the bed was amazing my wife nearly needed steps to get onto it, it was a real antique and the wood so highly polished and had a canopy over the front. We had views across the lawns at the front of the hotel beautiful. Would highly recommend if you want to stay in the area.

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.

Amazing value for money. Staff very attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Lovely place for families, dog friendly too. 5 star on all fronts.
