What a disappointment. No wonder there was no queue. Service so slow and there were hardly any customers there. After 20 minutes of waiting for my hot drink to be made I asked for a refund.

Such a shame for such a beautiful venue to have been allowed to go so downhill. Latte tasted awful, like weak dishwater. Very slow service at the window, and it wasn’t even busy.

Met for lunch here with family and had highly recommended it! It’s been a while since I’ve been but I was less than impressed. There was at least four members of staff stood around when we were trying to order who directed us outside to the window to order, we were told we would be served only small portions of chips as they were running out (with no money off for this), three items we ordered were not available. Three adults were given tiny plastic cups of water whilst a toddler was given a glass. No teaspoons with the hot drinks and when I went to ask for some was looked at by a member of staff as if I was inconveniencing her conversation. The French onion soup was nearly slopped onto my toddler, the adults fish fingers had beans dripping off the plate and the hot dog and chips had bean sauce all under the hot dog bun which meant it wasn’t eaten. The jacket potato had no butter or cheese when this was asked and paid for and again passed over the toddler. We had almost finished eating when we went to ask for a sandwich that we thought had been missed to see that it had just been left on the side to get cold, this was again passed over my toddlers head. The numerous staff barely seemed to have had any training apart from every time they put down some food or drink saying thank you have a wonderful rest of your day. Definitely will be taking a picnic with us in future.

Beautiful location to meet my team. Staff were in training but seemed to know most things, all very friendly. Food was lovely. Not a varied menu (typical park cafe offerings) but freshly made to order. Very reasonable pricing given its location. Building needs a little TLC but as it’s down to the council we won’t hold our breath!!!

Went with friends for a bite to eat at lunchtime. Greeted with a sour face. 2 of us ordered sausage roll, 2 ordered cake to eat in. Ten minutes after sitting down the soggy, microwaved sausage rolls were plonked on our table in paper bags, 5 minutes later the drinks & small slices of stale cake arrived. Manager seemed annoyed when we asked for napkins. It wasn't even busy. Won't be back!

Terrible and very disappointing as the pavilion is in a prime location . The service was abysmal as was the food . We waited over and hour and had to ask several times how much longer to be told it’s on its way which it obviously was not so waited yet again. It was not exceptionally busy which was even more frustrating especially with small hungry children. The food was inedible the bread was dry and stale for the sandwiches. The whole order was taken wrong there was no attention to any preferences given and 1 person didn’t get anything only to be told it didn’t go through insinuating it wasn’t ordered. I can only say what a shame and perhaps the place needs a complete overhaul of management and staff. Feedback was given to a staff member who apologised and offered vouchers but no offer of a refund for a lunch that was not eaten after a very long wait . We simply won’t be returning.

Walked passed and thought it would be nice to have a coffee and a sandwich for lunch as the sun was out. We were told there would be a 30-40 min wait for food as they were busy. That was fine, even though the place was 50% empty, we didn’t mind waiting whilst drinking a coffee. The coffee came and was fine but after 50 mins and no food, we went and asked for an update. We were told another 5 minutes. Eventually it turned up 1 hour 10 mins after ordering. We only ordered two bacon sandwiches. The sandwiches weren’t bad, but definitely not worth waiting longer than 15 mins let alone over an hour. I’m guessing they only have one cook who cooks everything individually. A real shame as the location is ideal. Next time definitely just coffee.

Honestly awful :( waited over an hour for mac and cheese, a children’s hot dog and a sausage sandwich. The drinks came within minutes so had to buy more when the food arrived. The mac and cheese was sloppy and horrible, the sausages in the sandwich were burnt and the chips were cold and looked like supermarket branded oven chips. Definitely won’t be returning, such a shame as there is so much potential.

Shockingly bad service and seems to be run by clueless teenagers. We paid when they took the order and sat down. 30 minutes after ordering, no sign of our food or drinks and a clueless teenager comes over to tell me there is no more lasagne, and could I order something else. So I ordered jacket spud instead. Our drinks finally arrived 35 minutes after ordering. Clueless teenager number 3 proceeds to place hot drinks within grasping range of a 7month old. We quickly moved them. 5-10 minutes after the drinks had arrived everyone else’s food turns up. Jacket potato and tepid beans. But no cutlery. We ask the 3 gormless teenage staff milling around by the tills about cutlery - but apparently it’s in the dishwasher. So, those that have their food end up eating with tiny dessert forks. Getting fed up of watching everyone else eat, it’s obvious mine isn’t coming out, so I complained and I’m told they still haven’t even started to cook it. (I had to wait whilst they dealt with a woman who was still waiting for her hot chocolates that she ordered 20minutes ago) Finally, over an hour after ordering and 10 minutes after everyone else has finished eating, I get my food. And yes, I still had to ask for cutlery. It wasn’t worth the wait. Jacket potato nuked in the microwave with a smattering of tepid tasteless chilli with a sprinkling of cheese. Never again.

Although the queues outside have always tested the most calmest of people at the best of times, and their prices for tea/coffee in a paper cup haven't decreased either. I haven't been inside the cafe since before Covid hit and I can't say I will go there again. We arrived last Saturday and there was quite a queue for the "window" outside, this was because the Morris Dancers were performing. We decided to go inside, we ordered our tea and a teacake each. After 40 minutes I asked where the tea was and was told it was on its way! The young girl behind the counter then started thumbing through all the order receipts to find our order. I reminded her that we had also asked for a toasted teacake each. Another 10 minutes and the tea arrived, except I had been given normal tea and not the green tea that I had ordered. The teacake took a little longer. This cafe now seems to be run by very young teenagers. It was a freezing cold day and the reason we went inside is because I couldn't see any of the heaters switched on outside. It didn't make much difference as there was no heating on inside either. When I questioned why there was no heating on it was because the "window" to the outside kiosk was open and the heat would be lost! Perhaps close the door to the outside kiosk so the heat isn't lost! The Morris Dancer event had been well published so why the owners didn't put on extra staff to cope, I'll never know. We asked about the soup, an impressive large soup menu, all priced at £5.95, I asked about the ingredients in the soup to be told that all the soup came in cans! Really, £5.95 for a bowl of soup from a can! The prices at this cafe are way above average but they are providing an extremely below average service and need to put experienced catering/waiting staff to provide the level of service that people expect or lower the prices so that people don't expect too much.

Since the coffee shop has moved under a new management the quality of food and drinks is beyond horrible. On few occasions I have been served coffee (latte/flatwhite) which was either so hot that I have burnt my mouth or have been given cold drink.Never really sure what you will get but I thought let’s give the new guys chance as every person there is new and needs training. Although it has been like this for months now! Today was a last straw for me. We ordered hot chocolate, hot milk and mocha. Hot chocolate was ok, but nothing exciting, milk was cold, even though I’ve said to make it hot as my child is ok now to drink warm drinks. For myself I’ve ordered a mocha. Instead of mocha I have been given lukewarm milk with a bit of chocolate. I’ve asked the server to make my drink once again, 15 seconds later I have been given another drink in a cup which was covered on both sides in milk froth and clearly just poured from one cup to another one. When my sister asked if they seen the state of the cup, we got an eye roll. At this point we requested refund. I’m sorry to say it but this place became a shamble with a staff which is not trained and doesn’t care at all about proper customer service. The lady new manager is either super friendly or with p..ed of face and doesn’t want to talk to you. It’s a real shame that it came to this point but I rather go with family and friends somewhere else.

They lost our order. Despite repeated trips to the counter to chase it. Had to ask for our drinks after 25 minutes. Asked if they'd lost our order, assured they hadn't. Several requests later, over an hour after ordering, they realised they had lost it. If we hadn't of had to pay on ordering we would have left at that point. Was my mums 80th birthday treat. Gave us a free round of tea and coffee but food was another 15 minutes and nothing special. At no point did anyone in charge offer an apology. No one asked if food was OK. No one apologised when we left. Doubt we'll visit again.

The toast probably only saw the toaster for about 5 seconds. It was cold & soggy. Eggs were supposed to be poached but looked more like fried. They were cold, over cooked, tasteless & rubbery! If I hadn’t already paid in advance for it, I would have asked for my money back!! It was an absolute disgrace & very disappointing! I hadn’t been to the Pavilion for a while and had enjoyed the lunchtime food before so it was disappointing to find it much changed. The menu is now much smaller and if you don’t fancy poached eggs in their many forms on the all day breakfast menu there’s not much else. The wrap and salads are called ‘grab and go’ and come in cardboard boxes. I chose the burrata and tomato which was one of two choices on the brunch menu and described as “herbed toasted bread, with peeled italian tomatoes, torn burrata dusted with fresh basil, ground pepper and a balsamic glaze”. Sounded good but sorry, I couldn’t in all honesty call it flavoursome. Were those tinned tomatoes? They certainly looked and tasted like them. And who likes eating in a draft? It wasn’t particularly cold yesterday but the wind blowing through the two open doors made it uncomfortable. The Pavilion has a lot going for it, it’s in a lovely spot in the park and the staff are friendly and efficient, but I think in future - if I go back, I’ll sit outside and enjoy the view with a cup of tea or coffee - which hasn’t changed!

Bedford Park's best know feature is the Pavilion café which has brought back to life a lovely venue which had been closed for decades. The café serves as a very active community hub with an excellent range of activities and events organised throughout the year. It is much loved and admired by my fellow Bedfordians who rate it very highly both for is cuisine and contribution to the community. Personally, whilst I understand very well all that there is to admire about it, I am not in love with it. For me, it lacks the warmth and atmosphere which I most seek in a café. It is fairly chic, but I find its offering a little upper middle class for a true community venue and the interior is smart rather than cosy. Severe lack of space seems to have dictated a rather functional approach to cramming the punters in (quite understandable in terms of the venues undoubted popularity). On the occasions when I have visited, I have found the staff perfectly polite and efficient, but they have not exuded the friendly affability to be found in other similarly middle-class places like Fay's at Riverside. Probably the very popularity of the place inevitably leads to the issues which I raise and it would this be unfair to the management and staff to regard my comments as any form of criticism; I merely note that, for all its strengths, the café is somewhere is use if in the park, but not somewhere I seek out when I want tea and cake.

We visited this cafe on the way for Bedford Park Live Feat. Unfortunately, they stopped offering meals due to the rain, but we tried some cakes and coffees. The cakes were fresh and tasty, and coffee was nice.

situated in the middle of Bedford Park , this is a lovely cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating. Eat in or take out is available . This is a great place to stop and enjoy some good value cooking , cakes and excellent coffee. There is a separate service counter for the take out business which is a great idea.

Came here for lunch with my brother, his wife & their little boy aged 18months. This place has a nice menu with some good options. I ordered the Eggs Benedict Pavilion (eggs Benedict with bacon & avocado on muffins) was really good & had excellent hollandaise sauce. My brother ordered the large all day breakfast & his wife ordered the Cesar salad all was enjoyed by everyone though they are really lacking in kids options. We really wanted to get little Alex some fruit but there was none at the cafe. This place was really good all the same & the staff were lovely & smiley. Would highly recommend!

I've seen reviews for the pavilion but never quite managed to get there. Until my manager treated 5 of us to lunch. She had booked a table for half twelve but meeting over ran. Quick call to say on the way no worries they said. What a quirky place it's like walking in to an old school room. Old tables. Pictures made from stamps. Cutlery in golden syrup tins. Flowers in jars. What a beautiful setting too Bedford Park. We had wraps with smashed avocado tomato and houmous served with salad and house chips (heavenly chips) skin on crispy and 3 sorts of potato. Cheese and red onion sandwich with the right balance of onion. Thick fresh bread. And beef and horseradish sandwich. All served with the salad and chips. We didn't have to wait too long either. Its quirky and lovely atmosphere. Cakes looked amazing and we could have eaten some but sadly we had to go back to work. The menu is lovely the staff are very nice. It's clean. It was reasonably busy quite noisy but it was lunch time. There were mums with small kids. Older people all sorts so very welcoming. I want to try the pavilion eggs on muffins with bacon and mushrooms with hollondaise so might try a walk in the park and have breakfast at the weekend. Loved it. Ten out of ten x

We recently came here for breakfast based on the mainly good reviews. I had reviewed the menu online in advance and had picked the baked granola but this was not on the menu any more when we arrived. The homemade marmalade was also missing from the menu. The toast arrived cold and my partners pancakes with bacon and maple were awful. They were cold and the pancakes had obviously been bought from Tesco and toasted before being served with very fatty bacon. No stack of pancakes here just three shop bought pancakes thrown on a plate with fatty bacon.

I'm lucky enough for this to be my local cafe, I often stop by for a coffee when out walking the dogs. There is always a gluten free or vegan cake to be had and my daughter and I have had the pleasure of enjoying a full gluten and dairy free Afternoon Tea with Prosseco - a real treat which we plan to repeat again soon.

Where do I start, what a lovely afternoon tea we had, Karen Russo the assistant manager right from the beginning of constant emailing her about the event, she was amazing and went out of her way to make sure I was happy with all the arrangements, nothing was too much trouble or effort, we had the whole place to ourselves which was amazing, the afternoon tea was delicious, fresh sandwiches, wonderful scones and amazing cakes, all home made, tea and coffee as much as we could drink, it was a wonderful afternoon and a wonderful memory for my auntie who's surprise birthday it was for, thank you Karen and team for a wonderful unforgettable afternoon, I would highly recommend the pavilion, just pop in for a coffee, it's amazing

There have been a few attempts to make this cafe a success over the years, but the current Pavilion has got it spot on, judging by the footfall we regularly see. Yesterday’s visit was no exception. Quick and friendly service of coffee and cake. Loved the Malteser slice! The staff coped well with the busy period that coincided with our visit. Prices are fair and competitive. There is plenty of seating outside as well as inside. Looks like a generous afternoon tea they serve, going by what we saw at the table behind us. Definitely one of our favourites in Bedford.

We visited this location while on a walk around Bedford Park. Me, my wife with our 4 year old. We ordered at their external window 2 hot drinks, & a juice. Next to their external window they serve at, they have a table which has milk & sugar. We placed our drinks onto it to add milk to our tea & sugar to our coffee. It was at this point that our 4 year old went to grab the milk flask which is on this table, it fell over knocking over both the coffee & tea all over my thighs. The drinks was molten (the tea at this point was just freshly boiled water) & I screamed out in pain, even losing my composure letting out a swear word.

Visited on a number of occasions. Super surroundings and food good, always well cooked with fresh ingredients, e.g. the sausage in the pavilion breakfast is real!, smoked salmon and scrambled egg is excellent..BUT service is very variable. Staff are curteous, however meals are often very late in arriving, even given that they are all cooked to order. Service indoors seems much better than that for outside eaters. Would get 5 stars if service were improved.

I went today, with my daughter and grandson, for what we hoped would be a lovely lunch. Sadly, we couldn't have been more wrong. The food arrived late. My grandson's meal was only semi warm, dry and looked as though it had been left under heated lights for eons. My ratatouille had half an inch of oil at the bottom. In short - very disappointing. Not only that, but when I complained - though I was brought a bowl of soup - two members of staff gossiped, whilst continuouslystaring at my daughter, making her feel uncomfortable. I wasn't charged for the soup (eventually, after I remonstrated, as the first assistant actually tried to charge me for the horrible ratatouille), but it was a shoddy and unpleasant experience. We won't be returning.

My wife and I booked The Pavilion for a private dinner recently on a Saturday evening. There were 29 of us in total for a three course meal and we can not speak highly enough of the service that we received. We were able to choose our own menu and the food was excellent. Nicola, Karen and Charlotte couldn’t do enough for us through from the initial booking, to helping decorate the room and looking after us fantastically throughout the evening. Having the place to ourselves was a real bonus. We have had a number of lovely lunches here prior to deciding to book the evening. Very glad we did as were our guests. Highly recommended.

Thanks for making it a special evening. We’ll be back.

Can't you write this on the wine list? Everyone I know has had the same annoyance. Especially when your hosting outdoor events. I get it's required for your licence but seems like a underhand way to up sell if you cant be bothered to let people know on the wine list. I'd have gone elsewhere...

My daughter took me for lunch along with my 2 yr old grandson as a birthday treat. The food took 45 minutes to come. If they had given that information to us when we sat down we then have choices but they didn't. So we had to keep a hungry 2 yr old amused for 45 mins. The food was average and over priced. £25 for a kids meal a sandwich and wrap. We had been before and it was so much better. The staff were clearly overwhelmed and unable to cope due to it being busy. The icing on the cake was when they bought our food out and not the 2 year old. There was another 10 min delay for his then he couldn't eat it as it was so hot. Bad planning.... We won't be back.

Been before and was very good, unfortunately this time it was not the best. We ordered drinks and then told that the menu was changing next week so lots of the menu was unavailable. We found a table to accommodate us but it wasn't clean. We ordered our food at the bar, the food was OK. We ordered a pudding at the bar. All the food was OK. But I was surprised that I had to pay 10% service charge. Such a shame to have had a disappointing meal at such a lovely little pub!
