We read about this place and came hoping for a lovely experience. Alas, we were met by the least friendly person we have encountered in months. The place itself has changed hands and names, and is now The Gatehouse. That would not have mattered if we had had a friendlier welcome. We ordered coffee (which itself was pretty good) but the "welcome" was such that we actually asked for it to takeaway as we had no desire to stay. A real shame.

Found this lovely place a couple of weeks when out with our granddaughter. My granddaughter has gluten and diary intolerance which was catered for here. It is down a side street in the upper town of Bridgnorth. The staff could not have made us feel more welcome and all our food was well presented, and tasted great. A couple from the local area were also eating when we were there and recommend the cooked breakfast to us and also the homemade scones. They cater well for people with food intolerance as well as people who don't I would recommended Bec's Coffee to everyone and will certainly be going back next time we are in Bridgnorth.

I've called in many times over the years and thought it was time I left a review. The charm of old quirky building is only beaten by the quality of the coffee, which is nothing short of perfection. I can attest to the bacon sandwiches being top notch and whilst I didn't have any cake on this visit, I have sampled them in the past and can assure you that the cakes are 100% home made and delicious, I'll be back whenever I can! Keep up the good work Bec and staff.

We use this coffee shop on a fairly regular basis, and every time we visit Bridgnorth. It is quirky, with a relaxing upstairs lounge with comfy chairs and sofas. The cappuccino is, in our opinion, the best - and we've tasted quite a few. The owener cafrefoully sourced the beans to match her required strength and taste. It's always perfectly made. The staff are friendly, welcoming and good at what they do. It's only a small place and naturally the menu is limited, but very satisfying.

My second visit, and it was even better than the first! It's very small, with a narrow staircase to the first floor, but that is a lot of it's charm. Being off the High Street, it feels like stumbling into a little oasis of calm. The upstairs sofas are very inviting and hard to say goodbye to! All the people who I've been served by were genuine and friendly. This time I had the mocha slice, halfway between a cheesecake and a cake, and I won't be ordering anything else next time, it was delish! The coffee was really good, even my wife said so and she's a barista maestro! Even the water tasted great! This is a great place to take a book or to write your postcards, to spend an hour escaping the madness of the world. Can't say enough good things about it!

Went to Becs for the first time although I have lived near Bridgnorth for many years. Usually go for coffee on the High Street, but it was well worth while venturing down St Mary’s St into this friendly cosy little coffee shop. There are light hot snacks such as bacon butties as well as tea cakes, scones and gorgeous cake to nibble with your tea or coffee. I would definitely recommend a visit and will be meeting a friend again next week in the same place.

We had a mozzarella and pesto Panini each. Next time we will perhaps have cake as the cakes looked really good and it appears to be more of hot drinks and cake place than a lunch place. Panini was really the only lunch choice. Great place though and very good service.

Heard good things about this cafe so was eager to try it out especially the upstairs area with the comfy chairs and sofas. Before going upstairs I was advised to place my order and pay which seemed odd as I had no idea beforehand if there were any free seats upstairs.I prefer to find a seat, look at the menu then place my order.. Just a small point. There are no menus on the tables just a chalk board downstairs with a list...and it's cash payments only... no cards so make sure you have enough money beforehand. The stairs are quite steep so be careful especially if you have mobility problems. The downstairs area has white shabby chic chairs and tables which didn't look all that comfortable so we were delighted to find 2 very comfortable fur covered armchairs upstairs with a nice selection of books to choose from and relax with. The coffee was excellent quality and value. The toasted tea cakes were a good size and good value also. The cafe has an eclectic mix of furnishings with a warm relaxing atmosphere. The staff are pleasant and welcoming and were happy to give me extra butter for my tea cake! Despite the odd way of ordering (just my opinion)it was an enjoyable experience and I would recommend this cafe for the ambience and good quality coffee alone.

And I'm sorry: First day back after maternity leave "and my brain is mush" is NOT an excuse - it's your business so get a grip!Easy solutions:* Drop a table downstairs*Re-organise the furniture upstairs or lose the sofa to get more seating upstairs as the place is so small*Give customers a number so that you can match orders to customers (rather than relying on whether or not you recognise them - really?)*Keep a check on numbers so that you don't take orders you don't have room for* Leave baby at homeThat's another cafe off the list. On my travels I always look to avoid the Costa Coffees of this world. In Bridgnorth, Bec's Coffee is one of those local, independent cafés that provides excellent coffee in original surroundings..... Raging against 'corporate coffee'. Just my cup of tea. Visiting with my family, we had tea, various coffees and cake. Most importantly, the coffee was first rate, the cakes lovely and the service provided with a smile. Just off the high street, Bec's is much more deserving of my coffee pound than the homogeneous, soulless coffee giants seemingly scattered across every high street. Hope to see you again soon.

My husband and I recently visited Bridgnorth and after some shopping and sightseeing decided to have coffee and cake. We did not fancy going to one of the big coffee shop chains which can be found everywhere and instead entered this charming coffee shop which is run by a very friendly and charismatic team of family and friends. It is located just off the high street (there was a sign advertising “Bec’s Coffee” near to “Boots” the chemist) in St. Mary’s Street which is filled with very old and interesting black and white houses of all shapes and sizes. It features an older style red bicycle and flowers outside and is just steps away from the historic Town Hall, which is literally in the middle of the high street, and offers an exceptionally and rarely found nowadays, personal service touch with nothing being too much trouble, including food and drinks being carried to your table. The choice of drinks available is limited only by the size of the blackboard and consists of many numerous versions of coffee, including decaf, in varying sizes depending on the customer’s thirst for that day and can be accompanied by the full range of milk, (full cream, semi-skimmed or skimmed), soya milk, fresh cream plus lactose free dairy drink). Indeed, coffee can be made virtually to each customer’s specification should they prefer it hotter, cooler, stronger or weaker, longer, shorter, etc. as each and every one is prepared individually by fully trained baristas, unlike many other shops where coffee machines with “push and deliver” buttons are used allowing no possible variation to the standard. My favourite drink is a large, hot latte made with semi-skimmed milk and although it is a simple request it is often unavailable elsewhere in spite of the “customer is always right”. One of the reasons I like Bec’s Coffee so much is because I can choose to have my coffee made precisely the way I enjoy it and not the way others “believe” I should enjoy it and no, I do not feel that the flavour of my coffee has been compromised by requesting the milk to be a little hotter than usual and pre-heating the cup also goes a long way to ensuring that it is just the right temperature for me. My husband always drinks black coffee with cream and often finds this impossible to have when we are out as most places do not offer the choice of fresh cream and so he therefore has to settle for something else instead. So it is great to find that Bec’s can offer fresh single cream as standard. Also, Bec’s unique and personally selected mix of freshly ground coffee beans produces a very smooth and tasty coffee. Other drinks are available too including various types of tea, served in china tea pots (and not just a cup of hot water with a tea bag), decaf and chai, hot chocolate and also cold drinks, keeping everyone happy.Various yummy looking and tasting homemade cakes including carrot, coffee, and walnut cake, chocolate brownies, banana bread, scones and biscuits are displayed on the counter making it very tempting to have a “treat” to accompany a drink. Filled and grilled paninis were also very popular when we visited and everyone seemed to clear their plates and even go for seconds. There is no loud music playing which helps to create a very relaxed and homely atmosphere with no one being hurried. If time is not an issue then you can also sit back and read the available new and used books for sale. There is also a blackboard table downstairs with assorted coloured chalk for children or adults to sit and write, draw or just doodle. If anyone needs to catch up with emails, etc. there is free WiFi which can also be used in the additional upstairs area where there is further seating including comfortable settees and also a customer toilet, which is an unusual find in the smaller coffee shops. So if anyone is looking for good homemade bakes and very moorish coffee or tea in a quaint and historic town then this exceptionally clean, friendly and individually styled place should be the obvious choice, unless of course you prefer the usual chain style coffee shop which is often impersonal, noisy and very busy with no time for that very personal touch. We know which we prefer and that is why we will be heading straight to Bec’s next time we visit Bridgnorth.

Visited Bridgnorth today and found Bec's coffee to be the best bet. We ordered a chocolate milkshake and a flat white, along with some delicious banana bread. I have no other complaints other than this important one: A flat white should be served in a 5.5 oz or 6 oz cup, not the 8oz cup supplied. The coffee was also far too hot making it impossible to taste the bean underneath the over-steamed milk. Milk I should also add was semi skimmed which is a crime to partner with any decent coffee. Please sort this out as your customers deserve better!

We chose this cafe for afternoon tea after reading reviews on Trip Advisor. The coffee was great. We have found good coffee difficult to find while we have travelled around the UK but were very happy today. Very friendly service. Limited food choices is the only down side. Upstairs is very comfortable to relax and enjoy your coffee.

I love bec's! The best chai tea and brownies in town!! Very friendly, v small downstairs area with larger comfy seating upstairs. They have a limited range but everything becs does is great, lovely paninis, souper soups, amazing cakes and brilliant coffees all great value for money unlike other places in town!!

A very friendly family run coffee house with an Australian influence (the proprietor spend a few years there apparently). The coffee was very good and properly made. There is not a huge amount of seating however what there is is nicely laid out in different spaces. If you want to avoid the chain coffee shops, this is a great place to try.

Coffee, cakes, paninis, and a good selection of second-hand books: plus friendly staff - what's not to like about Bec's?

We normally visit Costa and we have been for years. But we discovered this little gem just off the High Street. They cater for people who need soya milk and decaff drinks which for my missus is perfect. We had two Latte's with two Panini's and it came to £9 which we both thought was great.Service was brilliant which lovely quant area upstairs. Will be back real soon!

This was a great little find, down a road off the High Street. We were looking for an independent coffee shop for a quick pitstop during our visit to this lovely historic market town. The coffee was excellent and there was a good choice of speciality teas. It's not a big cafe, but there's also a lovely seating area upstairs with comfy sofas and well-stocked bookshelves. Service was excellent.

Lovely pot of tea, well presented latte and my buddies loved the banana loaf. Small cosy shop window area with more seating upstairs. Good value and welcoming. A favourite with some locals who look like they might be regulars who enjoy the easy going atmosphere.

We stumbled upon Bec's coffee shop while walking around Bridgnorth in the pouring rain. Thank goodness for the sign on the corner of the high street as the shop is tucked away down a side road. Our coffee and hot chocolate were the best we have had in ages and at a good price. Welcoming atmosphere, large lounge upstairs if down stairs is full. Would definately return.

I found Bec's down a side street in Bridgnorth. The staff were pleasant and I placed an order for coffee and a chocolate brownie before sitting down. It seemed a very reasonable price. The coffee was very small however and the brownie fairly average. The downstairs seating area is very cramped and my table was not much more than a plank leaning on the window ledge. It seemed a fairly freindly place and the staff knew some customers by name. I don't want to be hard on Bec's as they seemed like nice people there, but it was nothing special so only an average I'm afraid.

Great little coffee house, with scrummy, home made cakes, which my other half insists we need to go back for more! Coffee was hot, fresh and tasty, whilst decaf tea wasn't a problem ( which is always a winner in my book!) I easily got three cups from the pot, too. the paninis were freshly prepared, and staff very accomodating and pleasant. There's a craft group in the upsatirs lounge on Wednesday mornings - wish I'd known before we set off, but I'll go armed ready next time. Great range of books, too - robably the sort of place that fills up quickly on a damp day, and people sit for ages!!

Bec's opened last year and offers a quiet haven to enjoy wonderful coffee etc. with Bec's homemade treats both sweet and savory. There is a narrow unassuming frontage on St Mary's Street, but the one room ground floor gives access to the second floor with plenty of space. There are also used books on the shelves to read whilst you drink/eat or for you to buy. Bec and her staff (including Mum and Dad) are welcoming and friendly. So get away from the rush and frenetic high street coffee shop chains, and if in Bridgnorth go to Bec's you won't be disappointed!

I came to the cafe on a wrekend home, after a recommendation from my Dad.The coffee was brilliant, as were the cakes. The staff brought our drinks to us upstairs which was good service. Only downside was the fact the sofas upstairs are opposite both toilets which makes for some awkward eye contact after you've heard everyone's toilet noise.

My Italian tutor and I had been meeting in various Bridgnorth coffee houses for tutorials over a period of several weeks. These places were all acceptable. For the last few occasions however we have met at Bec’s and can see no reason to go elsewhere. The coffee is delicious, the atmosphere is excellent and the family/owners are all exceptionally friendly and helpful. Bec’s is the kind of place we like instinctively: unpretentious, clean with a good product and it is particularly attractive that there is no intrusive background music. The one extra element that they have, though, is that they make us feel valued as customers. “Meraviglioso.”

Just off Bridgnorth High Street is this charming little coffee shop, which is much bigger than it looks as it has extra room upstairs. The coffee is very good and the service is welcoming, friendly and quick. The cakes and pastries are delicious and there is every encouragement to relax, linger and enjoy the experience. An eclectic selection of books is available for the visitor to browse and even purchase at a reasonable price. This has been thoughtfully designed to be a very sociable and family friendly place. Independent and refreshingly not like the big coffee chains. Highly recommended to anyone in search of good coffee and a chance to unwind.

Real coffee, made with care. No big brands. No gimmicks. Just great coffee in a relaxed warm setting, with books to read and wifi.Bridgnorth residents need to support local, independent coffee shops, not homogenous enormo-chains before they are lost forever. Bec's coffee is much, much better anyway.

Went for the first secret diner club evening that is run by Jess who owns the fab 'not today seitan' in liar liar..what can i say?.the food was on another level. Litrally the best vegan food in Oswestry and way surpasses anything else available in a vegan cafe in Oswestry. The food was beautifully presented, the flavours were amazing and the cocktails were beautiful too. Really hope the owner decides to run these evenings on a regular basis although once word gets around i imagine getting a table will be really difficult. Its great to see a vibrant young business do so well and honestly the co trading with Liar liar is such a brilliant idea. Two amazing businesses running side by side. I cannot recommend this highly enough, the best vegan resturant/cafe in town by far

Honestly the best pub meal I've had in years! The steak and Guinness pie was delicious and chips better than many chippies. How they do that with bargain prices baffles me. Highly recommend

Very very disappointing...we booked for Sunday lunch..big mistake. We were not greeted on arrival, there wasn't even anyone behind the bar for us to let them know we had arrived.... But from there it went downhill....we were put on the smallest table in the furthest corner despite there being lots of much nicer empty tables available..we eventually managed to order drinks and asked to order food..The waitress mumbled something and walked off....a lovely young man delivered our drinks and said the young lady would be back.....when she returned to take our food order we asked what she had said, apparently it was they had lamb....then we tried to order but what she actually meant was they only had lamb nothing else and mostly no veg either...one of our party doesnt eat red meat so lamb wasnt an option but the waitress did nothing to try to help the problem...no offer to check if the kitchen could help.....I really could understand this situation if we were walk ins but we had booked...they knew we were coming....why would you not attempt to provide at least one other choice We drove to Bridgnorth from Shrewsbury to take some family out for a treat and thats the best they could offer....obviously we will not return.
