Beckleberry's in Gateshead

Firstly coffee and cake very nice. The issue was the young man that served us was not great. His hand hygiene was poor and he looked scruffy. For a small cafe then service took ages. We sat down and the table had not been cleared so after 5 minutes we took the previous customers pots back to the counter. The young man sneezed into his hands then wiped them on the front of his t shirt! He was repeatedly rubbing his face and then handling food. Sadly we won't be back.

Excellent service the staff are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The coffee is amazing always nice and hot. This is now a regular stop off for coffee.

I was a the metro centre doing my Christmas shopping saw this cafe decided to go in for my lunch this was on the 10/11/24 can I just say the nice young lady that served me was nice and polite and a nice meal as well thank you

We passed at the weekend just wanting to grab a scone, waited ages to be told they had to do cleaning because others had been waiting so long. The lady didn’t seem to be in a hurry and was cleaning out utensils didn’t apologise or seem one bit bothered mam was stood waiting to be served. I went over to my mother and said let’s go we both agreed we would never step foot in the place again after the lack of customer service and quite frankly ignorance.

Rudest staff ever. Seems reserved for customers over 75. Cafe half full but told by the most vicious nasty rude server I’ve ever met that tables are reserved! Borderline comical it was that bad. Safe to say we went elsewhere.

I can't rate the food because we got tired of waiting and being ignored so eventually left to take our custom elsewhere. We stood at the counter for about five minutes and despite the fact that three members of staff were present, not one of them bothered to acknowledge us, say they'd be with us shortly or even make eye contact. One lady was making a sandwich, one was at the till, and one was loitering behind the counter as if hoping not to be seen. There were two people in the queue when we arrived. One had been served by the time we left, the other was still waiting. None of the staff seemed to have any sense of urgency or any sense of customer service - just a simple "hello" would have made all the difference to confirm that they knew we were waiting. We'd planned to order paninis but the menu gave no clues as to the flavours available so as well as being unimpressed by the staff attitude there was every chance that by the time we'd been served we'd have found there were no ingredients that we fancied anyway. It wasn't even peak time - it was 2.30. I see from the reviews that we're not the only ones to notice the lack of politeness. You may be getting on in years, ladies, but it doesn't mean you can just go through the motions at work and forget your manners. Much customer service training needed at Beckleberry's.

I've given a one star purely for the lovely taste of the icecream, however there is a member of your staff there who needs to learn how to speak to customers. She is supposed to be upselling your products not telling my husband and daughter that 3 scoops of icecream is too much (that was the first occasion) and then on a second occasion (around 6 weeks later) both my daughter's and their friend we're looked up and down by the same member of staff and told that 'little girls should not be having that much icecream" and refused to give them what they were paying and asking for. Really poor customer service and her attitude for a grown woman is disgusting.

The milkshakes are divine, getting one is not a pleasure. Staff routinely ignore customers. We stood in front of the ice creams trying to work out what the flavours are. No labels. Member of staff actively turned her back on us and continued to prepare a blue ice cream cone. We tried to catch her eye - shop not too busy, nobody queuing. My child who has learning difficulties smiled at her, walked along the counter still trying to catch her eye and then told me he thought she was 'rude' - I agreed. Eventually another member of staff came to see what we wanted, she told us we could have any of the flavours as milk shake. I looked at her in anticipation, Eventually she quickly rhymed off all the flavours too quickly for us to take in so we just said strawberry. Yet again it does feel to me like customers are more of a hinderence than anything else. Such a shame - do the staff know their attitude comes across as rude?

Love the food and the ice cream. Staff are pleasant but oh so slow! We were in here a week before Christmas and again today. Both times two staff were serving customers. Not sure what the hold up is but the tables aren't cleared. Staff exchanging pleasantries with customers but not taking any dirty dishes back and not moving very fast either. Its a shame. Sort it out please! We like to come here but it's painful to watch.

Popped in to have a coffee with the wife and sister,my wife went to an empty table only to be told she can't sit there till we were served. The 2 customers in front were both served but there partners were already sitting and waiting, yet we couldn't. The woman that told my wife she couldn't sit till we were served was quite rude. We've been there before and had no problem We will not returning there again.

I have now ordered 3 of these boxes for afternoon tea and have to say, amazing!! A good selection of sweet and savoury at a very reasonable price plus free delivery. Perfect

Ordered 2 afternoon teas, Victoria sponge cake and 10 ice creams. All frozen when arrived took 2 hrs to defrost, ice cream was amazing, afternoon tea was ok, nothing home cooked all pre bought. Wouldn’t order again

During lockdown they offer several afternoon tea options which can be collected or delivered. Our choice was a mix of savoury and sweet options, all of which we enjoyed and we also treated ourselves to buying some of their very tasty ice cream. Their website clearly shows what is available and this is what we were supplied with. The food items are supplied frozen with clear instructions on how to defrost and/or cook them. Good sized portions and very reasonably priced.

Third visit to this great cafe in Metrocentre since the refit. Staff are always friendly and food is very good but why oh why have they taken the BLT’s of the menu. This is the best sandwich anywhere in the Centre. Always looked forward to having this when visiting the Metro and really disappointed that it is no longer available. Please have a rethink and put this back on the menu. I have heard quite a few people asking for it while I was sat in there so there is definitely a demand for them. Would have been a five star had my favourite sandwich been available.

We visited here the other day on a quick visit to the metro centre, we spotted a delicious looking raspberry scone as we were passing and couldn't resist, so pleased we did it was amazing, great coffee too. Its had a revamp since the last time we visited and is looking very smart, great social distancing and lovely staff.

Visited for ice cream. Sign saying wait to be seated. Waited and was ignored by staff. After several minutes asked a staff member if we could have a table. She said yes at the back we walked down. Tables are too close, none of the tables were clean an staff are not wearing ppe or social distancing from customers. Really not safe. Got up to queue, it’s too narrow no social distancing in place, told to remove mask??? Staff had a bizarre system of take order and prepare order and take money meaning customers are waiting 5/10 min at toll meaning a queue backs up. Would be safer to seat customers first. Asked what flavour ice creams there were told ‘loads’ so ordered a vanilla. One minute later whilst waiting for my order overheard the same server telling a customer all the ice cream flavours??!! Assuming it’s because I am not local. Rude staff and average ice cream

The most delicious home made ice cream along with a great variety of flavours. Bought some of their gorgeous quiches too and will be sampling their homemade cakes in the future...Can't believe the price considering the quality. My only sticking point is that they delivered on my first order but then said I needed to collect order the second time, though absolutely worth the drive to Blaydon for this quality....

Love the fruit scones. Service is fab. Nice and clean. Always call in when shopping and can't fault the service and warm greeting.

Just called in for a coffee,scone and ice cream. What a hidden gem. Food was great coffee was good n hot and value was even better. Great service the big chsins could do with looking at this hidden gem.. Thank you will be going in each time we go to the shopping centre.

Always get a friendly service from the 2 regular members of staff. Coffee and variety of scones make for a nice visit and rest. Access to some of the tables is a little tight but space is at a premium.

Dropped in for a coffee and cake while shopping. Decided to go for a filter coffee and fruit scone. Started well with the offer to have a seat and it would be brought over. No option of warm milk or cream with the coffee. Fruit scone was on the menu with jam and cream and turned up with 2 hard pieces of butter. My own problem for not speaking up but after cutting open the scone, I found it to be dry and maybe at least a few days old or just poorly baked. I ate half, washed down with average coffee. Definitely not somewhere I’d recommend or drop into again. Shame, as many of the other bakes looked nice. Maybe it was just an unfortunate choice.

Visited on Black Friday and the place was very busy. The 2 staff were working hard as usual but nevertheless still managed to chat as they served. A friendlier pair you couldn't wish to meet. Choice of scones was great and the decaf lattes excellent.

Called in for a cuppa to find they do gluten free pastry not a large section but was so tasty now i know will definitely be back

Although you can get freshly made hot and cold sandwiches and snacks I really enjoy the fruit and the date scones either with or without jam. The coffees are excellent and piping hot. The girls provide an excellent service and although we only call in a couple of times a month they always remember what we have which is quite incredible.

My wife and i generally visit the metro centre at least two to three times a week and have tried several eateries but we now prefer beckleberry,s to any other.The staff are all friendly and very courteous any time of day but to top everything is the food for such a small place it has a varied menu and every time we,e had any food it is always very good. It is a very popular place and most of the time there is plenty of people in but don,t let this put you off just have a stroll and go back and you generally get a seat. If anything the only gripe i have is the place is very small which is a shame as most people iv,e talked to who frequent here find the food and staff very good.

No puedo pasar por aquí y ver el pastel de trufa de mármol en la pantalla sin que vienen para un trocito! Es delicioso! Si estás buscando una escapada en refrescos y luego de sus compras Beckleberry es perfecto. El personal es muy agradable y ofrecen un servicio de primera clase. La comida se prepara con una buena opción. Los bollos son preciosas, como el café.

Esta pequeña cafetería en el centro de metro, Gateshead, tiene el mejor helado y seguro que lo es, con el premio Campeón Supremo sabor premios.

Good service and value from lovely staff. The selection of cakes was excellent and the tea was good. highly recommend as a respite from the Metro centre.

Me encanta este pequeño café ya que el personal es maravilloso. Siempre son amables y están para ayudarte. A menudo me pop en un café mientras haciendo compras y ahora ni siquiera tengo mis hijos preguntan si pueden ir a nuestra favorita cafetería. Siempre hay un ambiente encantador aquí a diferencia de las tiendas más grandes de café alrededor del centro del metro y es por eso que vuelven una y otra vez. La comida es buenísima y nunca nos hemos sentido decepcionados

This café is our favourite in the Metro Centre.The coffee and the food are all excellent and the staff are very friendly - the cream scones are lovely.

Lovely friendly place with Ice Cream to die for .Don't take my word for it go there and try it for yourself.

If you are looking for a coffee with a sandwich, Scone or piece of cake then Beckleberry's is for you. Although it has limited sitting accommodation customers come and go quite quickly. The coffee is freshly made and is served to your table. The fruit scones are the real I AM and are a real treat.

Visited on Saturday afternoon and found the place fairly quiet. We soon found out why!The coffee was literally boiling and had an absolutely vile taste. We both had blueberry cheesecake - soft, slushy, tasteless mush. This is definitely one coffee stop to miss - it is absolute rubbish.

Visited yesterday with my 1 year old daughter. Had to make the difficult choice between baked cheesecake and French apple tart. I went with tart. My words can't begin to do it justice. Absolutely delicious. My daughter helped me polish it off and if she could talk I reckon she would agree with me. Because I was still hungry I bought a cheese scone. Again very very nice. I would liked the option to have it warmed through. Been here several times before also and never been disappointed with the food or service. Special mention to Arran.They also do coke & lemonade floats!!! Takes me back to my childhood.

Passed by for ice cream and a sit down. Ice cream was lovely. Servers half asleep. Coffee was absolutely vile!!! I am not a fussy eater and will consume most things even when only verging okay. Today I left the coffee it was that bad. Had better coffee from a wishy washy coffee van!

We found this cafe quite appealing so we decided to try it. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The scones and coffee were excellent and reasonably priced. This is undoubtably one of the best cafes in the Metro.

we called for what we thought would be a relaxing rest and coffee and cake whilst shopping, seats so crammed together could not get my buggy in so had to take child out and fold it up, I asked a member of staff what the ingredients where in one of the cakes for my daughters numerous allergies, they were not sure.I found it over priced, compared to some places I have been.coffee cup was dirty but coffee was ok, once it stopped spilling over side scalding me every time I tried to pick my overfilled cup up.staff were ignorant too busy talking to what looked like a regular/friend by the royal service they were getting compared to her half listening to my orderso all in all didn't enjoy my visit

After trying and been disappointed with eateries in the Metrocentre have finally found this small cafe that does really excellent scones and cakes. Reasonably priced with the scones only costing £1.60 and we have always found the staff to be very pleasant.You can either eat in, there are about a dozen tables, or buy the food to take-away. Only had the sweet offerings but they do sandwiches and other savoury food. Also there is a choice of the delicious Beckleberry ice-cream. Well worth a visit.

We visited Beckleberrys in the Metrocentre whilst shopping after I read about the gluten free goodies that they make. I was not disappointed, there were 2 gluten free cake options available - lemon tart or marble chocolate cake. A piece of chocolate cake was ordered and when it came the size was enormous! The taste was to die for, creamy with a proper cheesecake like base; it was so big that I couldn't finish it all, so that job went to hubby who had just eaten a small banoffi pie (which he said was lovely). Both went down well. The staff were lovely, polite and friendly. Well priced and ideal to pop in for a break.

Visit often. Lovely staff. Small but varied and very tasty range of cakes and ice cream. Not had savoury here as yet as usually go specially for the sweets as are so nice and reasonably priced.

One of the best ice cream makers in the north east! Always friendly service when I pop in. In response to the person below me; if you go to a cafe/pub/restaurant expecting to pay by card and don't ask if there's a minimum spend then you're a fool.

Popped in on my way back to my car after a Christmas shopping expedition. Ordered a regular latte and some cake as a reward to myself. Unfortunately, my order didn't reach the £5.00 total amount needed to use my debit card (I had no cash left on me). The girls kindly offered to add the difference on for me. Awwww, how nice I thought.....and then I realised it was me who was paying for the shortfall, so, I ended up paying an extra 80 pence more than I needed to! As, the girl said, a lot of people don't realise about the £5.00 rule.......so this obviously happens a lot!!!Not nice to feel that you have been ripped off with a smile, no matter how small the amount is. I couldn't finish my cake because of it and I would far rather put any spare cash I have into a charity tin!So, based on my experience, I won't be returning.

This lovely little place in the metrocentre is ideal for a pit stop for a sandwich and a cuppa or icecream if you prefer not to eat in the big chain restaurants. The food is presented beautifully, even the basic bacon sandwich is served with a side salad and crisps on the side which I thought was a lovely touch. My only issue with the bacon sandwich was that the bacon was sweetcure and a little on the cold side. Never the less the bread was gorgeous as was the coffee. Reasonably priced for the metro too. The staff are also lovely and love to chat with you!.

Excellent ice cream parlour .sit in or takeaway. They do food , but never tried it , so can't comment. Cancelled a dessert at a place round the corner , and what a difference in service at this place. Lovely ice cream ( I had sorbet) . Special mention to the staff. Ever so friendly. My first visit. Think it was my fiftieth. This is exactly heat I mean ,staff and service can make or break a place . This place , the staffs the asset. Well done .
