Becketts At The Mansion in Southampton

Some friends and I visited last night for an evening meal as a party of five. The setting was lovely and our waiter was so friendly and welcoming. Food was a mixed bag, the pork belly bites starter was a little underwhelming, tepid in temperature and parts of the fat were not as well cooked as would be expected. The buttermilk chicken thighs on an Asian salad in the other hand were outstanding and gave me serious food envy. I opted for the chicken supreme starter which was absolutely fabulous, beautifully presented and full of flavour. My friends also enjoyed the fishcake topped with a poached egg and hollandaise, and the mushroom and truffle linguine. Dessert was very disappointing, sticky toffee pudding which had clearly been sliced from a traybake and microwaved, served with a thimble of lukewarm custard. Not that warm delicious gooey unctuous pudding that you picture at all; I’ve had better in my local country pub. Overall a nice evening but some improvement needed to live up to that image and price point that is presented outwardly.

Christmas Eve Sunday Roast in a Pod, superb. A family dining experience second to none on Christmas Eve, great venue, great food and with loved ones. The whole experinece was excellent ( we have dined in a pod before so knew what to expect) but we had the added festivities of Christmas, the experience was only added to by Paris and his team, Paris is great, engaging and fully professional a pleasure to deal with, we look forward to seeing you all again soon.

We had a great time at Beckett in The Mansion at Coldeast. Six of us had different meals and drinks and all agreed the food was superb. The experience was made all the better by Harry, who was charming and very efficient. He was attentive without being obtrusive and had a wonderful sense of humour. We will go again 👌

Best hotel breakfast we've ever had Freshly prepared, quality ingredients, not 'cook in bulk leave on a hot plate'. Hashbrowns to die for. Our favourite place to stay when we're in the area because we look forward to the comfy bed and amazing breakfast so much. Hard to beat.

As a family we had a Sunday lunch here. It was a warm day so the place was very busy inside and out which probably accounted for the lacklustre service. The venue is strange in that the grounds are lovely and the actual building (an old hospital I believe) is impressive however the inside of the restaurant resembles my old school canteen. Plastic tables and uncomfortable chairs! The menu was a piece of grubby paper which was surprising. The service was slow initially and then having ordered our drinks and food we were surprised to receive our roasts in about 5 minutes flat. They arrived before our drinks. The reason for the quick delivery was apparent when you saw the roast items all stored under lamps. Unfortunately this meant some items were cold and in the case of the Yorkshire puddings, dried out and inedible. In fairness the meat was good but needed proper knives to cut it. No checks from any of the staff and we had to summon someone to say that we had finished and to order desserts. I am sure that the staff were pleasant but they needed some direction from a manager. If there was one then they were invisible. Some other people complained that their food was cold and inedible. I think that for £80 for four roast lunches (excluding drinks and desserts) I expected better.

This place is very strange. It's a truly amazing location with such grandeur but this really isn't reflected in the restaurant. Some of the decor is beautiful and appropriate to the age and style of the mansion House. Some of it feels like a canteen with plastic tables and cheap-looking velour everywhere. When we arrived 80s pop/rock was literally blaring and we felt really alarmed. Thankfully this was turned down immediately on our request. Such a strange choice and volume for a restaurant which is aiming at 'smart'. Then the menus came and they look really bad. Plastic-coated pub menu is the look they're going for - why? Luckily things really improved. The service was spot on, attentive and polite but not cloying, and the food was lovely. Well presented and well cooked with generous portion sizes. I would definitely return but it would be lovely to see a few tweaks to make the whole experience gel better. A setting like that deserves better attention to detail.

I entertained some key customers here with dinner. What a disappointment. The food is ok, not great but ok. The service is sadly lacking. Long delays between courses, long waits for food. Very poor table service for drinks and when it came to dessert we had to go seek someone to take our order, this wasn’t as easy as it seems as the only person we could find was the night porter on reception. I stayed the night and again, it’s ok but nothing amazing. I had stayed a year ago and although I didn’t eat dinner on that occasion, I did have breakfast. I consider the quality of breakfast has deteriorated. Maybe we picked a bad night but I won’t be rushing back to entertain there again.

I was put and about at Brownwich cliffs as the weather was sublime. After a morning of exploring I felt a bit peckish and found this fantastic spot. It looked like Bridgerton mansion as I was driving up. There these delightful pods to sit outside and it just looked fantastic. Reception was friendly as I walked and directed me to when I asked for a quick lunch. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff were amazing. I ordered the "Jack the lad burger" which was very tasty and followed it with stunning Sticky toffee pudding. The whole place was busy but I was still looked after. As I was leaving I asked a South African manager nearby about the area and he was very knowledgeable and gave me some great ideas for the next visit. I will definitely be back again. As a local I have been to The Mansion on many occasions as the location and views are second to none. I have never stayed however used the bar outside many of times. Never have I ever experienced such incompetent bar staff. Orders are rarely correct, would sooner have you wait at your table for 15 mins rather than serve you your drink at the bar you just had to walk to? Food served without cutlery being offered at all. A group of staff with some improved management and just a bit of common sense and this place could be a gold mine.

The location was good, however this was the only good part of the experience, we booked a pod for 9 people, we ordered drinks (2 bottles of wine and 2 pints), we then waited over 30 minutes for the drinks to arrive, even after we asked where the drinks were, we ordered sharing boards Sunday lunch, the food was brought out with no plates and was then left to wait over 10 minutes for plates while the waitress served other tables, the food portions were poor with only 2 gravy dishes for 9 people, we asked for more however the by the time the new gravy came the food was cold, also no other sauces were brought out like advertised, we ordered more drinks however waited so long a member of our party went to the bar to get his own drink, which is disappointing as we would of ordered more of the service wasn’t poor. Then the issues with paying, had to go inside due to the machines not working, receptionists we’re busy talking to each other and didn’t ask for any feedback and at this point we wanted to leave. One member of our party was charged for the full meal after we asked to split the bill however receptionist weren’t not paying attention. Overall poor service and disappointing food for the cost.

Wow! Had a meal in one of the pods with some friends and loved every minute of it. The pod itself is a perfect size for eight people and is warm (when the door is closed). We loved the fact we could connect to the speaker and play our own music too! We all had different starters and enjoyed them. My scotch egg was delicious with just the right amount of spice. The mains were all very good. My fish cake was a little late appearing due to a mix up when ordering. However, it was definitely worth waiting for. The burgers looked great as did the chicken dish. Our waitress was amazing and served us with a smile throughout the evening. Would thoroughly recommend as felt like such a special and different evening being in one of the pods. We also visited the bar inside before our meal and loved all the sofas and soft chairs to relax in.

This place is very unique and is a must visit if you haven’t. The rooms look absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to visit again. ⭐️

Warm welcome and shown to table by a window overlooking the pods. Busy but not too noisy ( a restaurant rarity these days ) . Nice relaxed atmosphere. Attentive staff - well done Charlotte. Food was excellent ( perhaps a little more gravy ? ) and chefs/kitchen staff clearly know what they are doing. Pastry chef certainly produces some stunning desserts.
