Bear & Staff in Liverpool

Came here for lunch a few days ago and had a splendid experience, staff are all so friendly and the food was spot on. Will definitely be returning. Thankyou

This is a lovely place and lovely staff / management. Would like to thank Chrissy for lovely service, so friendly as always and making you feel welcome.

Food was pleasant enough but our waiter, Daniel was a star. He was attentive without being too invasive. I was out with a group of girls and Daniel went along with the ribbing we gave him. He is a credit to The Bear and such a great lad.

Lovely meal yesterday with my partner. Quick, but not rushed service, and the food was lovely. We were only planning a light meal, but ended up staying for the full 3 courses as we were enjoying the atmosphere and ended up having a nice Friday evening relax.

Absolutely bang average food at best. Luke warm, dry. Over the years it’s always been hit and miss, but certainly the last time we will be visiting.

Super cosy inside in the winter and great garden in the summer. Dog friendly and food is gorgeous. I love a Sunday afternoon having a roast and a few bitters. great choice of bitters and beers.

Disappointing. Visited on 16th October table for 4 to celebrate my son's 8th birthday. Arrived at 6.15pm and did not receive our main meals until 7.50pm. When the food did arrive, one dish (duck pie) was ice cold, which we sent back. I didn't want a replacement meal or the wait to go with it, so we asked for it to be taken off the bill which the staff did. The sides on the children's meals were wrong, but they didn't care at that point. It wasn particularly busy, so maybe they just forgot about us, or we were unlucky. Had high hopes after seeing so many positive reviews, but after this experience, we probably won't return.

Recently dined here for a roast dinner with my partner Jim. Upon arrival we were greeted by a young man named louix. Long story short he was the shining light of the place. The food was below par and rest of the staff seemed cold however that was not the case for louix. Would come back again not to eat or anything but just to see his smile again. Over and out.

went for dinner for my birthday last week and it was really lovely, our server courtney was so smily and polite, made sure we had everything we needed and was very quick getting our drinks!! overall great experience really made my day

Reasonably priced and food was delicious, looked after by Ruby who was so lovely and reminded me to put my reg plate number in so I didn't get a ticket. Thanks Ruby!

went in today just for a meal with a few family members and when some of us were unsure what to order/try, Chrissy recommended good food and drinks safe to say she was really lovely and kind towards us and her service is great

Good afternoon I had a pleasant visit to this delightful establishment the staff were lovely and attentive especially the delightful lady behind the bar I believe her name to be Ruby she was so warming and friendly and made sure all my needs were attended too I will be sure to return to this amazing establishment and couldn’t recommend more to anyone who wishes for a nice place to eat and drink

Quiet lunchtime drink and sandwich

Came in for lunch today (01/10/24) staff were absolutely fantastic 3 lovely girls. will definitely be coming back for more of the duo of chicken 10/10

Appalling. A ‘20 min wait on food’ turned into two hours. Our meal given to another table:mistakes happen, but despite us asking for the meal that had been on the other customers’ table for ten mins not be reheated and given to us-it was. Some of the plate was heated to oblivion and some stone cold. Sent back again. Brought back out but the ‘Pork loin and crackling’ had no crackling. When we asked for it we were brought a tiny ramekin of cold pork scratchings that were laughable - see pic. The acting manager could sense dissatisfaction amongst a few customers and left the premises before we finished our meal (didn’t want to face the music) We were left with the only two members of staff that had been left to front the whole shambolic service. They could only agree with us and wipe our bill which was absolutely the right thing to do and the only reason to award any stars to this review.

Had the Sunday roast. Not the best, had a lot better.

Just back from what was supposed to be a pleasant family Sunday lunch and feel the need to write this while fresh in the mind. The whole experience was a ‘comedy of errors’ from start to finish and after one and a half hours waiting for our food, what turned up was a joke. The menu (wording and descriptions) and prices are a far cry from what you actually get. Best example of this is the ‘Pork and Crackling’ dinner. There is no crackling and if you ask for it you’ll receive a ramekin with what was clearly some cold pork scratchings from the bags behind the bar😂. I’ve a list of stuff I could use to support my ratings here but am holding back as the staff realised how poor everything was and dealt with our bill accordingly.

Love this place! It's become the unofficial '19th hole' with it being just round the corner from my golf club. Pies, burgers, fish, beers, good wine - I'd recommend to anyone.

The waitress that took our order seemed to be very annoyed that there are customers on a Monday evening. The Madri beer was nice. Nothing else. The food was totally different from what was described on the menus. Signature beef burger was nothing but a smelly burger with soggy chips. Never again

Disaster from start to finish. Seems understaffed - ironic considering the name. After waiting more than 20 minutes to order drinks, we were told there'd be at least an hour wait for food (the pub wasn't busy and it was an afternoon during the week). Beer selection was poor, and the only cider they had was Aspall. First, they gave me the wrong drink (Amstel) and then tried to give me what I asked for in the same glass (I ordered cider as I can't drink beer). Then we were told the Aspall was off. Safe to say we left soon after.

If I could give this meal no stars I would .We only had 2 mains of the fish & chips barely tasteless Handful of chips ,food not very hot both of us came away starving never visit this place again total rip off 2 mains,2 coffees bill came to £40 daylight robbery !!!

The place is OK, the food is not my cup of tea.

Lovely vegan meal and wine with friends !

Steak pie mash and veg was delicious. We got something that was like a bruscetta for starters (can't remember what it was called), that was also gorgeous. Service was good and sp was the atmosphere. Got an old school feel to the place. Proce is reasonable. Not cheap but not expensive. We eat there fairly often

Visited here in September 2024 and the food was absolutely gorgeous and extremely well presented! The customer service was exceptional, especially that from Meletta who was always on hand to provide service and build a rapport with us. She brought a smile and personality to her job and made our night even better. The food and service were so good that we returned the night after our visit! Would 110% recommend and will return very very soon! :)

Came for Sunday lunch 3 had turkey roast 1had beef .one came without roast potato's,one came with missing carrots.The Yorkshire pudding had a soggy bottom no pigs in blanket but a large sausage with bacon wrap not very appetising.All meals not very hot but the waitress brought hot jug of gravy.Good sweets and had 2 pots of tea one pot didn’t have a tea bag it was just a pot of water .Table not cleared, over all it was poor.Staff did their best but maybe don’t do to many covers .

Went for Sunday lunch with my wife, sister in law and brother in law and we were very disappointed with both the food and the service. The food was luke warm and, on one plate they had forgotten to include roast potatoes, and on another there were no carrots. After the meal we ordered tea they had forgotten to put a tea bag in so served just a pot of hot water. The staff were very nice but the overall service was poor. We've been to the Bear & Staff during mid-week and enjoyed the food but yesterday's experience was terrible.

It was a surprise for my daughter's birthday (60) if you must know😊. I went early and spoke with Meleela about it and she could not have been more helpful. They are are really nice approachable pair, her and her husband. On the night, the food was excellent. I recommend the squid starter (memories of Spain). The service provided by the staff was very very good. Meleela is superb at making you feel welcome and nothing is a bother. Highly recommended. We all agreed.

Roast dinner, apparently. Have to pay for extra potatoes. Food like rubber and luke warm. Should have known after the first visit when they were blasting scouse rap from the kitchen. Never again.

Great pub, warm very welcoming. Staff are amazing. Very professional yet very approachable charming and full of smiles. Our group were looked after by a lady called Meletta who I have to say is an absolute star and a credit to your organisation. Already planning our next meal. Food is excellent and very reasonable. Get yourselves in there and try it, you won't regret it.

Brilliant pub , fabulouse food greatlittle beer garden secluded and very tidy n clean , meletta who has gotta be a nanager or owner does absolutely everything effortlessly ,(and with quite busy customers ) was amazing , great food n service 5 stars 🌟

Our experience at the Bear&Staff restaurant in liverpool Woolton area this evening is by far our worst eating experience we have in a long time It’s a friday night we booked for 6:45pm because the online booking system said 6:30 was booked! 3 of our drinks were not available choices from the bar our choice of food was sold out three of our four friends choices not available Mixed grill and Rump steak our second or really third choice ordering was not ready 45 minutes later! We frequently complained to manager and server with poor responses and sarcastic responses this restaurant needs new management and quickly

Finally, a pub serving a proper steak and ale pie, not a stew in a pot with a lid, not a slice of pie, but a real, individual pie! Extra gravy too. Very nice!

Started off really well, nice surroundings, nice table, friendly and attentive waiter. Had pot of tea each. Ordered 2 roast dinners, pork and turkey. Looked lovely. Large plate. Pork was nice, crackling like a rock, couldn't cut it, vegetables raw, Yorkshire so crisp couldn't cut it. All in all, think it had been warmed up as was stale. We told waitress, who just said sorry about that. Shame because we got the mini sweet and coffee which was great. All in all, we wouldn't visit again.

Had pre birthday meal with the family last night 24/08 24, food was excellent, also the service from start to finish, also a free bottle of wine as a birthday treat, would highly recommend a visit , thank you

This was a lovely pub with a great atmosphere and lucy one of the workers was great and helpful towards me when I visited and greeted me with a warm welcome.

We waited around 1 hour and 15 mins for our food to then be told it was going to be another 20 mins . By this time i had slurped around 6 pints of madri and was on my arse . Food isnt great either way . Madri is fantastic tho

Me and my boyfriend visited this place last week. We had some food and drinks and I could not fault anything! The staff was lovely and the food was phenomenal along with the drinks. Will definitely be returning.

We went at lunch time, place nearly empty inside. We asked for a menu at least3 times . In the end my sister got up and got one from the bar.

No idea when food is actually served here, today we been told kitchen is closed at 7pm (Thurs). Don’t know why we bother trying, shame as a really nice setting and food is nice when get it. On website it says food is served until 9, this has happened to us about 5 times.

Food was terrible but staff were great, hoping it was just a one off but both starters and mains were cold

Haven’t visited here for about a year. It is not as I remember I think it was independent previously but now it’s part of a chain. Food is not as good, service was just about Okay but not up to previous standards. Overall a little disappointed.

Great traditional, classy pub for a drink as well as good food. Love the young bar staff, really attentive and all work hard. Especially Josh, really nice lad & always on his game 👍

Peas were served cold with the gammon but the steak/ale pie meal was roasting hot. Pie base quite tough but plenty of content. Was value for money - will try there again but won't be rushing back.

First visit at Bear and Staff and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was good and Britt and Chris were both lovely and friendly. Will visit again :)

Had a lovely Sunday lunch, had the turkey. Just popped in on the of chance & staff got us a table. Very pleasant.

Went for a few drinks Thursday evening. Good selection of beers and wines. Good atmosphere. Quite cosy.

Had a lovely meal here on Sunday. My parents in law, love coming here and rate the food highly. Service is great in the restaurant, special mention to josh who looked after us and is attentive and friendly. Thanks from the Maguire's.

Excellent customer service Carl Josh and the team always very professional and helpful always the warmest of welcome excellent new menu’s will always check any allergy with the chef can recommend Sunday roast and fish and chips excellent and sticky toffee pudding cheesecake

Wonderful staff make this place. Food is good and the setting has such tradition but it is the friendliness of Britt , Carl etc that makes us feel welcome. Even Finn on just his second day has picked up that friendly vibe. Lovely evening.

Best pub in South Liverpool for a pint in the sunshine. Customer service is first class. Welcoming staff who go above and beyond sets this place apart from everywhere else. Have to give a special mention to Josh and Eleanor and Chris. They were exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much.

Had roast dinners in other places but the bear in staff was by far the best. We was served by Joshua who was really cheerful and was so helpful. Would recommend this pub. Me and my mum are looking forward to going back.

We just popped in for a cool drink on a warm day and decided to have a bite to eat too. Joshua and the staff were excellent, very polite and attentive. The food was excellent quality and a good quantity and to be honest we could not find any faults. Price was reasonable which was reflected in the said quality of the food. Will we return? Certainly will.

I am so disappointed to leave this review. I have been a customer of the Bear & Staff for many many years and I'm sad to say neither me nor my family will be in the future. The only thing good about the place is the bar staff. Since it has had a change of management im afraid to say it has changed for the worse. Skimping on everything, heating, food, which is poor and the attitude of the manager Craig when approached is absolutely appalling.. He is arrogant, patronising and unpleasant The brewery need to address these issues before current management run the place in to the ground.

Rude, ignorant & unpleasant staff! Taking my elderly Mum for a coffee.. On arrival staff member didn't even look up, shuffling through paperwork. "Won't be a minute". Several minutes later, "Someone will be with you in a minute". Walks off. A few minutes later. Younger staff member. "Can I help", " have you made a reservation". Me. " No, we just wanted a coffee, and if it's ok if we sit over this side", pointing to the bar are with no customer in site, empty tables everywhere. "Would it be ok if we had cake or something with the coffee". Straight faced... "No, it's Fathers day we have over a hundred bookings today". Impolite, unfreindly & blunt! Just like the first staff member when we entered. Seems like a common trend here as far as customer service goes. The place was empty & we only wanted a coffee, probably a half hour stop. We have been here many times before with bigger groups & spent money when it wasn't as busy. Maybe you should look after customers in general, including walk ins, especially, because when the busy periods end, these are the customers you need to keep you going when reservations dry up. As far as I'm concerned I'm done with the Bear & Staff. No more custom from us in future.

Came here tonight with my wife for a meal and a drink, we hadn’t booked and they were really busy but did manage to squeeze us in, we were served this evening by Daniel a really pleasant and charming young man and also Brittany a lovely young lady who like Daniel were very attentive, we had a lovely meal and a lovely kick back and chill, thank you both for making it a lovely time you are a credit to your workplace

We’ve always loved the bear and staff and went for dinner last night for a quick bite. The staff were amazing as always and the atmosphere was nice and friendly. The food, however, was awful. It’s always been so good and tasty but this was unbelievable. The food was burnt tasting and greasy, as if the grill was dirty, the chips were bizarre and almost dehydrated, the gravy was watery and we had a sausage which was so over cooked and dry the middle was crispy. We sent one of the meals back as completely inedible but if we hadn’t sent that one we would have sent the other, my husband thought the chicken was dry gammon… Real shame.

Didn't try the food out today, just thought I'd have a quick pint here. The pub has had a major refurbishment just a few years ago. They altered the interior and redecorated the whole pub and put a great beer garden on the side which can be a sun trap in the summer. A nice place to work on your suntan and have a drink. They also have plenty of parking spaces Reasonable selection of drinks and pleasant staff.

Robot answering machine with no human option which is an unfortunate cost cutting measure; sadly that hasn't translated into their severely overpriced drinks and food menu.

Don't go here if you're just out for a drink, more expensive than the city centre and no atmosphere whatsoever.

Been going to the Bear and Staff for absolute years . Today as a family was the worst experience ever . Main courses turned up over an hour after sitting down .Food was nice apart from son's starter being 3 croquettes with a stupid dollop on sauce on a massive plate , my soup turned up.I asked where the bread was and was told we don't have any ..... then some sliced bread turned up . Father in laws veg meal was absolutely awful . Honestly don't know what is going on in there but it was by far the worst service we ever had over 18years

5 of us 4 adults one 11yr old. 4 roast dinners. Youngster a chicken meal. Food disgusting. Meat like leather.Yorkshire pudding, dry. Watery gravy. Appalling.
