BEAR Derbion in Derby

The food was really nice, I had the halloumi burger and it was lovely. The staff were nice and there was a lot on the menu. I was only visiting Derby but really wish we had one of these in my home town!

We have frequented Bear a number of times and had 2 poor experiences at Bear Derbion as opposed to Bear on Iron where we can not fault. Our latest experience at Bear Derbion was today when we decided to have lunch here. We waited to be seated as the sign instructs, but staff came and went by us without as much as eye contact. It took us to go to the bar area to ask if we can be seated only to get the reply "site where you want" we sat on a table recently vacated and started to look through the menu. Again, staff walked past knowing we had just sat there, but no attempt was made to clear the previous customer's dishes and wipe the table. I eventually had to ask staff to do this who came and removed the dishes but never returned to clear the crumbs and surplus food off the table. When the same member of staff returned with our drinks, we asked if the table could be wiped. She then returned with a cloth and wiped the table in a way that meant the crumbs all fell into our laps !!!.. my sparkling water never turned up so I asked staff where this was only to be told I have to get it myself from the fridge "which no one told us when we ordered" (plus we had to ask for a glass) Onto the food orders, I wanted to order flatbreads with chicken shawarma, but when we went to order at the bar,we were told there was no chicken which is disappointing to here when you have spent 15 mins looking at the menu, why didn't they tell you this when you are seated? My alternative was the Turkish eggs which says is 2 "rich yolk" eggs, the eggs I received resembled hard boiled eggs and the food was luke warm so no doubt had been sitting about for a while. My wife ordered the brioche chilli and cheese with Fries. The fries didn't turn up with the order, and we had to ask for these. They were promptly brought to us, but we're luke warm, so again, they they must have been hanging around for a while. All in all, the food was substandard, and the customer experience was very poor and unsatisfactory. I would consider alternative meal options when visiting Derbion in the future.

Had an awful experience today Went in for a cake for my 2 year old grandson and a tea and coffee. Just as we were about to sit down a reserved sight was put on our uncleared table. As it was for 20minutes later we sat down with the cake thinking our drinks wouldn’t be long as there was no one waiting at the till. After 12 minutes and no drinks I went to try and cancel the drinks as our grandson had finished and we knew we’d have nowhere to sit and drink them They wouldn’t let me 2 minutes after they eventually arrived they came to take our table and there was nowhere else to sit They were happy to take our money but terrible service. The table was still full of the dirty plates from when we sat down The girl apologised and said they were short of staff and had a lot of people booked in That’s not my problem it’s yours. You shouldn’t take money from people who haven’t got a seat and it shouldn’t take 15 minutes for a tea and coffee to come out

The Bear, Derbion: A Great Spot to Work and Unwind The Bear in Derbion is a fantastic place to relax or get some work done. The atmosphere is calm and inviting, making it an ideal spot to focus. The tea was great, and the décor had a cool, modern feel. The staff were lovely, providing table service - which is a nice touch in a modern coffee shop. A great find and definitely worth a visit. The staff at bear are always amazing, I go a lot with my son Ozzy, my son has various additional needs due to a rare brain disorder (8pinv/dup/deletion syndrome) yesterday we decided to go to a different coffee shop to which we were refused to warm up my sons pureed food (he has food aversions) and were told to fold down our pram my son uses his pram as a wheelchair he cant sit up in a highchair, needless to say we left, the staff at bear warmed it up for us straight away and it was served on a nice plate. I salute bear for being so inclusive and I broke down abit yesterday due to the kindness of staff it made our day. My son ozzy loves the simple things like going out to eat even if he can only manage pureed food and I enjoy a coffee. So thanks bear we always visit and will continue to do so! Kindness goes a very long way and we certainly always receive that here! 🙏 the coffee and cakes are great too.and for any disabled customers I highly recommend bear for being inclusive! I'd give higher than 5* if I could

Superb! Can’t recommend highly enough. Excellent food, service, ambience. Very friendly helpful staff, delicious food (sister and I had lunch one day then coffee and cake the next). So glad to have discovered this gem on a weekend trip. Definitely worth a visit ♥️

The food was nice and well-presented with plenty of vegetarian options to choose from. However, the experience was let down by the staff, who came across as rude and unwelcoming. While trying to pay at the till, we were already standing at the front when we were abruptly told to 'go round the other side if you want to join the queue.' While the request itself was fine, the tone was unnecessary. Overall, the staff gave the impression they didn’t want to be there, which was disappointing. Or they didn't want us to be there, who knows.

Food and drink were fantastic. The only thing that lets it down is it's so cold in there.but there's not much they can do about that because of the door opening.

We've eaten and drank in Bear on iron gate for years and have always had a great experience however this is not the case in the Derbion store. The first time our 3 year old child was given sirracha ketchup on his food and the second time the staff were so rude. Surely you would put your friendliest staff on the till?

Very rude lady serving food, the order was incorrect, and instead of being helpful, we were made to awkward. it's a shame as this isn't the first time we've had an issue with the same staff member, and we've been dining here for years as a family. On a more serious note, some of the items on the order were transferred to a new plate instead of redoing the plate from scratch which isn't acceptable.

Easily the rudest service I have ever received at a coffee shop, then charged twice for one of the drinks (only receiving an apology when asking for a till receipt on the way out), all to get a satisfactory flat white and a luke warm hot chocolate. Premium pricing leads you to expect better.

Lovely place. However, after one hour and a half of sitting with friends, the manager came to tell us that the table is reserved. Nobody told us when we booked on the phone and some of us have just ordered their coffee/vieinnoiserie. We ended up keeping our spot but it didn't feel good.

I have been to this restaurant perhaps 4 or 5 times and Everytime, without fail, I am amazed at how you out-do yourselves every time. I always opt for the Smashed Pea & Mint Avocado adding the 2 poached eggs option. Everytime it keeps getting better! The consistency never changes, but the flavour, just wow. This time (yesterday) there was a slight change, (I'm guessing they have altered the menu), my smashed avo on sourdough was adorned with sweet and sour red onions and they were the cherry on top of the cake. Such a compliment to an already amazing dish. An absolute must have if you decide to venture out for some hearty food that feeds the soul. Thank you Bear.

Went out with friends lunchtime on a weekend. We had reserved place so had no difficulty. We didn’t realise we had to pay at the till and the food is then brought to the table. The person who sat us could have informed us as its our first time here. Cant complaint about food. It is very nice. Has a good selection of vegetarian options. Staff and service could have bit friendlier which would made the whole dining experience better.

We had the festive package, which was a buffet style, Shari g plates. The food was exceptional, we all really enjoyed our experience. Thanks you

6 staff, nobody really doing anything. Wifes food came out after 20 minutes, cold. I had chicken burger. Just enough food for a 5 yr old and on a saucer size plate. Staff coughing all over the place with no covering mouth. Horrible place wouldnt recommend. Also dont get a can of their version of coke. VILE

We went for breakfast this am and the lady at till was so rude and even more rude when collecting plates ! We paid £52 for a breakfast to have someone be so rude. This was at the Intu Derby Bear !

This café is located within the Derbion Shopping Centre. It’s necessary to have your table number to order at the counter and it is then delivered to the table. The prices are reasonable. We had two flat whites and a surprisingly good pastel de nata ( Portuguese custard tart ). In our opinion, this was the best café located in the shopping centre.

I could BEAR-ly contain my delight as I feasted on the breakfast. Well worth a visit.

Great venue visited with my cockapoo Eric after walk thro Darley Park for coffee staff were wonderful . Treated Eric with a Pup Cup and water before we settled down . 5 star customer service 👌

Went today with my partner and daughter. One free table but it was dirty. Asked if they could clean it so we could sit down. Disregarded with the response given. Turned away and the employee rolled her eyes with a face like a slapped arsed. Overpriced food & poor service. Support local instead.

I come to bear in the derbion every Sunday morning. I always look forward to seeing all the smiling faces, especially Eleanor!!!! I love the art on the cappuccinos. Would definitely recommend!! Vibe has deffo changed since last manager was there I’ve definitely noticed a difference.

Bought two coffees and two desserts, the waiter brought them to the table without taking all the dirty cups and plates from previous customer. Didn’t offer to clean the table at all neither. I was kindly asking for them to clean it please, and in a rude way and with anger said to me that he asked if I wanted anything else and didn’t respond hence left the mess as it was. This was in an aggressive attitude, with no intention to offer a minimum service level. And actually it was a lie, because didn’t ask what he said anyways. On top of this, didn’t bring spoon or sugar for both cake and coffee. I am disappointed and regret coming to this place, and this experience ruined my whole weekend.

Decent coffee that came quickly. The staff though, especially one young lad, were a bit rude.

Poor service. Lebanese bread was difficult to cut. The hhallouni was well done! The salad was dry and unappealing. The lemonade was nice.

Visited this morning ordered drinks and cakes. Drinks arrived coffee luke warm I had to ask for a fresh one. 30 mins later still no cakes,had to ask then only received half the order and had to ask again 🤷‍♂️ The thing is nobody said sorry 😕 We always visit when we go shopping in Derby,it's our treat. Let's hope this was just a hiccup!!! Visited Ashbourne last week no problems.

Popped in early and had filter coffee and a bowl of granola. Granola was good, simple but just enough. Good black coffee is hard to find but the filter coffee here was really nice. No milk needed and free refills. Service was excellent. Super friendly and really helpful.

It was 1230 on a Sunday, there were a few tables available, so we sat down and chose our food. I went up the counter to order the food and at that point were told there was a 50 minute wait. So we left. Why does a restaurant struggle to serve food at lunch time?

Came Saturday morning for breakfast with my friend and everyone was amazing. Paya was very helpful and dions coffee was incredible.

Came for an afternoon outing, had a 313 lager, a rose wine and some snacks and it was great. Everyone made us feel welcome, 100% recommend.

Had the most incredible brunch here on Saturday. We both had poached eggs with avocado/pea mash on sourdough bread. It was amazing. The eggs had the most golden yolks I have ever seen. Every aspect of the dish was delicious. I would give this dish 6 stars if it were possible. I can't wait to return.

Dion, Ell and Chloe provided swift service with a smile whilst simultaneously attending to other customers' needs as well. Brilliant!

Visited Bear in the Derbion centre on 3rd May 2024. Great atmosphere, ample seating inside. Staff are very polite and professional and table service as well. We only popped in for a coffee. The standard of their coffee is excellent. We will certainly visit again.

Lovely food as usual. This is my friends and i favourite place to go to eat. We often have dion serving us he is very polite. cleanliness is 100%

I go quite a lot and the food is amazing, the staff are polite and helpful. It’s clean! Chloe serves me a lot when I go in and is always chatty and helpful and going that extra mile when we come in and becca makes the best coffee! My daughter even got bear art in hers which I thought was really cute and such a lovely touch

Just been served avocado that was so hard it’s into bare knuckle boxing. When I told the staff they just went, oh okay thanks. Couldn’t have cared less.

Odd and off place this. I walked in on a particularly quiet, drizzly Monday afternoon to be observed by three staff members, none of which greeted or even acknowledged me. Made my way to a table, checked out the menu and opened my laptop to fire off some emails. 15 mins later and despite the same staff walking past me no one engaged in me. I then asked a fellow diner if it was table service to be advised it was not. With my casual efforts to get the attention of staff, seeing that I had reviewed the menu and set aside very peculiar that none of the three staff that observed me thought to advise on this. Let’s face it, having to go to the till to place an order is not the norm for a restaurant. A note on the menu to this effect would have been useful. Having said all that, the coffee was lovely and the Lebanese flatbread with chicken was tasty. I will likely return and will be interested in how I am received next time.

Tasty food, delightful Staff. Friendly Waiting staff and buzzing atmosphere

I have been coming here for many months and made many visits. I have got to know everyone that works at this Bear and they are all lovely people, my particular favourites are Chloe, Beky, Dion and El. The coffee’s they prepare every day always exceed the previous days offering. The latte art deserves a spot in a modern art museum!!! And the food!!!!! wow the food is amazing. I particularly enjoy the full house breakfast and the banana berry pancakes!! the chefs are always visibly hygienic and professional and all work with lightning speed whilst maintaining the highest standard of food preparing!! I am always grumpy when I do not get to visit bear in the morning. I love this place. 10/10 recommend.

Its would have been 5/5,but unfortunately my poached eggs were over cooked, which made my toasted bread seem hard as the runny yolk would have soften the bread. The coffee and service was good.

Service was perfect, we were served by Chloe and she was helpful and polite. One of our group is gluten intolerant and the staff were really informative on what they could and couldn't have. We love our coffee and that was spot on. The food was delicious, eggs were cooked to perfection. The portion sizes were really big, we came out super full and happy. Definitely recommend.

I always make sure I visit here when I'm in derby shopping. The staff are lovely and I really like that you order and they'll bring it over to you so you can sit down and relax. The cakes are delicious and they have a great choice of coffee and wines

1 star review yo get your attention and to record my disappointment that you have removed the banana and berry pancake from the breakfast menu. It was this that made me a regular at Bear....and haven't found a replacement on your menu that I like :(

Sadly both of my visits to this venue have been disappointing. The food and drinks are great but the staff leave a lot to be desired. They seemed to be indifferent to customers needs. Also the tables were mostly uncleared and dirty. My first visit was late on a Saturday afternoon so I put it down to being busy. My second visit was for a weekday brunch but the situation was no better. I will give my business to the Irongate branch in future where I have experienced a friendlier welcome.

Not as good customer service compared to 12 months ago. Tables not cleaned at around 2.30pm. One member of staff on the till who ignored me for around 10 minutes to the point I needed to press the staff service bell to get noticed. Amazing food once again, but due to how rude the staff member was on the till I will not return again.

We had the full house breakfast, sweet potato latkes, and shakshuka. They tasted wonderfully, portion sizes were very good. Great quality, fresh ingredients, and good service. Recommended.

Four staff members talked among themselves while we waited at the front to order, and didn’t acknowledge us until they finished their conversation. Great smoothie but terrible service.

Very disappointing. Tables dirty. When I placed my order I wanted to change flat bread for sourdough, lady had to ask the grumpy manager if this would be ok, and through greeted teeth she allowed it. I must of waited over 10mins for my coffee. Our food was waiting under the heated lights until someone brought it to us. No one asked if we wanted sugar with coffee or any sauces with our breakfast, or even ask if our food was ok. Shall not be returning. The grumpy manger needs to train her staff better. Or get a different job not serving the public.

My food was lovely however I was really disappointed with the staff. My friend ordered in front of me and wasn’t happy with her Biscoff latte as it tasted too cinnamony, so requested for a new one without any Syrup. The girl on the till wasn’t apologetic about this strange taste, and I watched her roll her eyes and Huff and puff to all of her colleagues who then turned around to have a good look, as if to say “I can’t be arsed with this girl”. I’m not sure if my friend noticed and I didn’t want to tell her but her but it really upset me to watch. The till girl had curly hair and was wearing them gymshark T-shirt. And to be honest, all of the staff members look like they just rolled out of bed in random clothes, no uniform or grooming standards. I don’t normally leave a bag review, but I was really upset to see my friend being such an inconvenience to them all over such a small thing. However, the food was lovely and next time I’ll be sticking to the iron gate bear where the staff are always lovely

Coffee lovely and so is food. What let's place down us the dirty stained unhygienic chairs. Aren't they ever cleaned. It's put me off. Won't go again

Wouldn’t recommend - ran out of decaff coffee, very expensive for what it was (£16.50 for a small flatbread with a few toppings on a small aluminium tray lined with paper that went soggy, ripped and stuck to my food…). Oh and it was cold - both the food, and the restaurant. Prices were in an unusual position on menu, so that I thought mine was £10. Sister had already paid, so had to like it or lump it. To be fair, it did taste very nice. But along with service that wasn’t great either, probably won’t go back.

What an absolute filthy place .. to start with the chairs looked as though someone had had an accident on each one !! We joined what we thought was the queue only to be told "can u wait over there & chill" by a miserable looking teenager.. heres a hint .. if u dont like working with the public DON'T work in the hospitality industry!!! We had tea, coffee and cake ..the tea came in a jug and a dirty cup & my coffee was lukewarm.. the vic sponge was dry but the brownie was ok.. the mens toilets were disgusting, the urinal was stuffed full and there was no toilet roll .. i didnt even DARE try the ladies !! I gave one star only but only because I had to or it wouldn't post 😡

Excellent food, and better service! Amerit was super, found us a table, after having to shuffle things round! Nice to see proactive people doing their best for customers...WILL BE BACK!

Such a shame Bear has deteriorated. The restaurant was freezing cold on our visit, very uncomfortable. Tables were dirty and cushions torn. The coffee was cold. Ordered food, which came hot but bland. Won’t be going back, very expensive mistake.

Amazing food! The chef is very talented. Service was exceptional! I don’t know the girl’s name, she had tattoos and glasses who served us, and she was a dream. Beautiful place! ♥️

Poor customer service, not everyone wants their coffee/espresso brought to the table and 3/4 staff trying to persuade me isn’t going to change my mind, it’s quiet a shame as the flat white was very nice but being forceful with customer is a complete no for me. Definitely don’t recommend this coffee shop for someone with autism or on the spectrum as I enjoy watching my espresso being made and especially the coffee art to ie frothy milk/foam, it’s visually very satisfying for me and it’s part of the experience for me personally. The collection of drink to in the chiller was impressive, not many coffee shops stock karma lemonade or know what it is. I’ve visited twice today takeaway is better than sitting in but I did notice that if you sit in service is much faster, but you’ll practically be ushered to a table which isn’t nice and whilst waiter are ushering you to tables the unfortunate thing is they’ve not been cleaned before hand and the tray aren’t either because they’re to busy taking people drinks to tables. Overpriced too, compared too the kitchen in iron gate. But that being said if you’re looking for a friendly coffee shop I recommend the kitchen in iron gate and cafe Nero or Nixon coffee shop, as these places are more relaxed and cater for everyone whatever way of length you’re on and they’re coffee bean selection is clearly advertised.

Loved it. My shakshuka type brunch was delicious with the added chorizo, the sourdough is too good I could eat a whole loaf. The full English looked lovely as well. The coffees were very nice and they sell beans to take home which are recently roasted, always a nice touch! It's not cheap but very enjoyable.

I walked in to this place and it was a mess! Almost of the tables were dirty. We were told to go and find a table to sit. But there was not many to choose from. Most of the tables were empty but had not been cleaned. There was food all over the seats.,I mean if I was the owner or manager of this place I would be appalled!

Enjoyed a delightful breakfast at this charming spot. The cozy ambiance and appealing aesthetic set the perfect tone. The quality of the coffee exceeded expectations, and the French toast was a delectable highlight. A truly satisfying experience that I would highly recommend to others seeking a delightful start to their day.

Some of the staff seemed a bit lifeless when serving the food which could have been a bit hotter. That said, the food was good. Worth a revisit.

Fabulous and friendly staff who make you feel welcome ! Their Adventure Coffee beans are to die for making it my go to place for coffee and lunch ! Dion, Chloe and Becca run the business so well!

Popped in for some breakfast whilst out shopping, my first time visiting my sister has been before and recommended so we chose there to eat. Service was good the food came out quickly and was very tasty, would recommend the pancakes for anyone with a sweet tooth the veggie breakfast also sounded lovely would try if visiting again! They had tan out of milk so only had the alternatives - I had no problem with as I have coconut milk in my coffee not sure how long they had ran out for but when based inside a shopping centre I would assume they would nip and get some.

Superb quality and value for money. Sunday breakfast was delicious. All credit to the team, especially Dion, our host.

Came here on a Monday afternoon for a light coffee but the French toast also caught my eye. The presentation was beautiful and the texture of all 3 components greatly complimented each other. The latte was also amongst the best I’ve tasted. The coffee felt smooth and left little to no bitter taste in the mouth. The atmosphere was cosy and warm and would be a great reading atmosphere. The service was splendid the waitresses were very polite and were very welcoming. Overall a very nice experience and I can say confidently that I will be returning.

We stopped at Bear for a quick brunch, it’s somewhere we’ve always wanted to try and I’m so glad we did. Friendly staff and delicious food! Will definitely be back to try Later @ Bear!

Tasty iced coconut coffee thank you guys!

The coffee and food here was 10/10. Eggs Benedict with salmon cooked to perfection and the hash brown tots are also well worth a try. We also had Pancakes which again was a 10/10. I wish this place was near home I’d be there every week!!

Great slightly off beat menu - always something interesting going on somewhere on the plate! Staff are really courteous and helpful, and the qualities are perfect for a regular human being :)

Being a food critic travelling around the country I would like to express that everything was divine, from the staff to the chefs. The quality of food is excellent, the friendly staff are a joy and I would highly recommend the brunch, the breakfast, the pancakes and drinks. I sampled a little of everything and this establishment is wonderful. Nothing to complain about. Wonderful I will be back again.

Love this place normally but recently visited at lunch time and ordered chicken Sando and it was Rock hard, my friend ordered the same and couldn’t eat it as so hard and dry , so disappointing.

Decent food but had better burgers elsewhere. Staff could do with retraining or upskilling in customer service. Keeping a customer stood, clearly waiting, at the counter for ages whilst two members of staff behind the counter ignore them is terrible! No warm welcome on arrival and no food menus handed out, had to ask. Poor!

Low customer service and rude staff

Started with an early coffee which was great especially the de- caff. Probably the best I’ve had. Liked the place so much we went back for lunch. Both had the ham eggs Benedict, perfectly done. At £10 great value. Staff were very efficient, polite Alex was our waiter, quick( although they were busy we only waited a short time) would recommend. Waiting for the one to open in Nottingham now.

The pancakes are good but I had the fish goujon burger which wasn't great but it's worth a try. It is quite pricey.

Great Coffee, staff and cake but the seating needs a clean. The seating is comfortable but when i looked the majority of the seating was in meed of cleaning.

We go to Bear for breakfast quite often. This review is for their new evening menu. I had the "It's Bluey" (a blue cheese cheeseburger with a spicy honey drizzle) It was an awesome double patty of delightfulness 🙂 My partner being a vegetarian had the "Hallouminati" (double halloumi burger) The atmosphere in the evening is different from daytime, it's aim is trendy with music and lower lights. Works well. I watched several nice looking cocktails leaving the bar too. I had an IPA and my partner drank tea.

Had snack and coffee. Very tasty. Staff efficient.

Food was great, drink was really nice, pleasant staff, nice chill atmosphere… recommended 👌
