Had scampi and chips twice, children's fish and chips and a few drinks. Came close to nearly 50 quid. The food was fine but nowhere near worth that price. The location is this place's best feature. Away from the busy town centre so a bit quieter.

Visited today (August 15th) as everywhere else was queued out of the door. The greeting alone should have turned us away, the staff were rude and decided to mock the fact that we confirmed whether or not dogs were allowed inside, pointing and jeering at the sign once we’d sat down that “dogs r welcome” the reason we clarified this is because there was outside seating. We then waited ages for the food, when this food arrived it was mediocre at best, most of the chips were undercooked. The waiting service by the same rude staff was awful, we ordered beans with most of our meals and they weren’t on the plate. When the waitress replied “they are coming” she was walking off at the same time. Definitely will not be visiting again.

If you want to travel to Whitby for terrible fish and chips.. then this is the place. Greasy, small and made me feel sick Also tried to rip me off by charging for a children's' meal with a drink and that I did not ask for. When I challenged them about the missing drink I was abruptly told to order and pay for the drink at the front... no no no I don't think so! Not honest. The miserable old bat who took my order broke into a smile as I ordered four cans of coke. When I studied the bill I understood why. £6 for four diet cokes. Horrible food, horrible staff, horrible prices... only redeeming feature is the location that deserves a better cafe than this joke.

Was here today 15th July 2019 for lunch. Woman took our order wrong even after telling it to her a few times. When the wrong food came the chips were under cooked yet really greasy. When we ordered there was only 3 other tables so it wasn't busy at the time but when the food did arrive it was busy so she was running around mad. Tried to speak to her about the order but it was then so busy she didn't have a minute to stop. Ended up leaving half our food uneaten.

Food nice bit pricey though, we got charged for things we didn’t order so make sure you get a receipt otherwise you can’t prove it luckily we did and we then realised why the bill came to so much as we got charged nearly £8 for a salad that wasn’t ordered. You’ve to ask for sauces as I did they’re not offered. They sell alcohol for those not driving

I thought all the cafes in Whitby would be full that day due to the cold weather but this one was almost empty. We came in from the cold desperate for a cup of tea, which was nice. We didn't think much of the place and all the prices had been removed from display. There was a huge board which listed all the food & drinks on offer but there wasn't a price in sight. I thought prices had to be displayed to customers as you need to know how much something is before you order. Found that really odd. There are a lot of tea rooms in Whitby which look much more inviting.

Visited here on Thursday 30th August whilst visiting Whitby whilst on holiday in the area and the fish and chips were absolutely delicious and the fish was cooked to perfection. Excellent service here and friendly staff who took our orders within 10 minutes and served within 20 minutes piping hot. We ordered 3 haddock and chips and the fish was delicious and lovely and white throughout the fish and the batter was lovely and crispy. The chips were also very nice. We sat outside and we had lovely views of the sea and the lighthouse at Whitby and you also get a good view of the sea and Whitby Abbey, but if you sit outside beware of the seagulls as they swoop down from nowhere when you're not expecting it which give us a fright as we were leaving but apart from that would defineltly visit again.

Possibly the worst place to stop for food! Should have worked out why all other food outlets in Whitby had people queuing out the door and yet this place was clearly being avoided as at 1230 lunchtime it was virtually empty. I ordered a salad sandwich on brown with no dairy. Unfortunately it arrived with butter and coleslaw! Not a good example of an understanding of customers with food allergies, which although not life threatening in my case could have devastating consequences to others with more serious problems. My mother and wife ordered a portion of chips, at best they could be described as scraps! They had obviously been cooked and held for some time as they were cold and inedible. Give this place a wide birth and as there are so many other eateries in Whitby which are far superior give you well earned money to a business which deserves it.

Arrived by coach early, ordered breakfast and could pay by card, although signal is dodgey. Had to sit outside, asked for towel to wipe seats four times! A plate of chips and burger arrived, not ours..... Our tea arrived, not one clean mug, then the lid of the metal tea pot sprung open and broke. After a long wait, my poached eggs on toast arrived, never seen anything like it before, insipid. The scrambled egg arrived next, soggy, wet toast. Next the bacon and tomato bap arrived, large rind of fat and had tinned tomatoes in it. Then the sausage sandwich, which was inedible, it had been deep fried, cut open then refried to within an inch of its life. You could not even bite into it. They then wanted to charge us 25p for each sachet of sauce, had just paid £21. We complained about the sausage and was told that was the way they cooked them, did offer us another, but we refused, were not given a refund.

Where to start with this 'place'. We were looking for place to eat on the way back to the car and stumbled across the beachside cafe. Firstly when we walked in and mentioned that our table was dirty but thankfully when we told them they had us a wet cloth so we could clean it ourself. Then it came to ordering... ordered two portions of sausage and chips well so we thought again thanks to the helpful staff we realised that we actually order one sausage and one cod. Silly us because when we questioned it the staff clearly didn't get it wrong and even when she was talking loudly to her friend in the kitchen we was still wrong. After waiting another five minutes we finally received our child portion of sausage and chip. Lucky my boyfriend was that hungry anyway because by this point I was fuming. The food was awful and soggy, the toilet was blocked, the place was unclean and clearly the teenage staff had never learnt manners. Would not even let my dog eat there.

We opted for an outdoor venue for lunch for a large family group with 2 large dogs. The menu was quite limited but we ordered mainly sandwiches and a couple of scampi and chips. We were charged 25p for a sachet of ketchup and £4 per sandwich which consisted of 2 slices of bread and a slice of non descript meat and salad. They ran out of cheese mid way through our order and were quite surprised that we wanted the refund instead of another 'ham' offering. I wasn't surprised to see the terrible ratings that this place has. The chips were dreadful and were left on the plates and even the seagulls gave the food a wide berth. In Whitby on a busy day, wanting a small fish and chips for lunch. Normally I research places to eat, but chose the beachside due to it's convenient location and good offer. The small fish and chips was definitely small but the chips were good and the fish flaky although I wish id asked whether it was cod or haddock as it looked like neither. It wasn't bad but next time will stick to what I normally do and go somewhere better.

All we wanted was two latte's. There was a long queue (10 mins?). Whilst queuing I heard mention of a 20 minute wait for food so asked, really politely (for me!) if the wait applied to just drinks (if it did, I would have cut my losses, put it down to experience and gone elsewhere....). No, I was assured, drinks come out quicker. 35 minutes later our drinks came out and we were promptly informed by the young lad that we needed to sit on the tables/chairs provided by the café (we thought we were!) - we were on the adjoining cafe's tables (where there was no queue - doh!!).. By this time I'm kind-of not thirsty any more, so suggested to the lad that maybe his boss was operating a very poor system and left, sans latte. This is, without doubt, the worst place I've ever had the misfortune to encounter.Walked back to Sandsend and visited the Sandsend Café - coffee, cake and great crab sandwiches - recommended!

The first lesson to learn is don't judge a place by its location!!We got to the end of the slipway and thought let's have a brew.We ordered a latte, 2 teas and a milkshake what could possibly go wrong with that? Well first thing my wife had time to check how they made their milkshakes as our autistic son just likes milk not ice cream etc so she explained this to them and you would think that we had come from a different planet!! The rolling of the eyes said it all! And they then proceeded to talk about the awkward customer as they had to remake said drink.Anyway we waited for our drinks and received one pot of tea which was just badly tasting hot water and a latte served in what can only be described as transport cafe mugs, my sons milkshake was in a cheap nasty take out cup and as for the latte this cafe should look up the description on what a latte is as it's certainly not milky coffee served in a jug and it was definitely boiled not steamed milk as it started to develop a skin on it.So to sum up: Avoid this place like the plague, just turn round and head back into Whitby, a long walk is far better than being robbed by these clowns

We had the great misfortune to choose this atrocious cafe to have breakfast. It has a fantastic position right on the beach but that is its one and only good point. The food was appalling and overpriced. The Caffe Latte (if you could call it that) seemed to have no taste and no coffee in it - however there was the bonus of a long dark hair swimming in the cup half way down. Semi cooked hash browns swimming in grease, uncooked fat on the bacon - tiny portions at rip off prices, although the portion size was a godsend in this case as the food was virtually inedible. Whitby is a wonderful seaside town and places like this shouldn't be allowed to operate lowering the tone so badly.

I went back in only to be told my husband had ordered Regular, he didn't and they clearly ripped us off, he also wanted a small fish but they charged him for a regular one, the fish was tiny, I needed a magnifying glass to find the fish inside, he stopped halfway through and wiped the oil off his plate. It was disgusting, go to The Almighty Cod in seaton Carew, big meaty fish for half the price. I didn't complain just decided that I wasn't ever going to go back in and they have lost my custom plus anyone else I know will informed on how rude they were and the tasteless fish, my mouth was left tasting of chip oil. We called at this dump as we had our 2 dogs with us and wanted to find a quietish spot to eat our dinner. We came across it and thought it looked like a nice spot overlooking the beech. How wrong was I? Everybody else seemed to walk by it(must have been locals? ). Myself and my partner wanted fish and chips as did my eldest boy who's 10. I approached the counter and a miserable sour faced looking woman said ' yes what do you want! '. I said hello can I please order... She interrupted me and said ' take away or eat in' . I paused and thought to myself, how rude but politely said we are sitting over there. She then said it's this menu over here. I then glanced at the menu she was pointing at and nearly fell over when I saw the prices, fish and chips £7.95. At this point I changed my mind and changed my selection to just a fish as I had a feeling in my head that something wasn't right, when the food arrived the portions were tiny and mine looked like a fish finger!! My eldest asked me for some tomato ketchup for his meal, I sent him inside to ask the 'lady' for some, he returned seconds later saying I can't have any. I then went inside and asked why, and was snapped at by the woman inside saying its 25p for a tiny sachet, I then complained saying they were ripping people off and bring the good name of Whitby down. We chose this place because there was a quiet place to sit at the end of the quay front to seat the dogs. There was a reason why it was quiet! This place really is the 'Last Chance Saloon'. For a seaside town, 'Whitby' that is renowned for it's fish and chips this place is an absolute joke and a disgrace to British tourism. We had a small portion of sausage and chips, a small portion of fish and chips, a fish and chips and a fish, and two teas (which turned out to be one pot of tea which did not give us two cups), which came to approximately £30, this did not represent good value for money at all!!! The children wanted ketchup and asked for some at the counter, only to be told that they are 25p a sachet which we were not willing to pay considering the meagre and pathetic portions of all the meals were seriously overpriced for the quantity and quality of food we actually got. The fish and sausage were greasy, the chips were horrible and very few of them and the fish were obviously all half fillets rather than the full fillets you get elsewhere. This place was almost empty on a busy day for a reason. The staff were at best complaisant and at worst damn right useless and rude. I have had the pleasure of eating food from the magpie cafe/restaurant and they have a good reputation for a reason, in future I would queue for here. This restaurant on the otherhand is in fact is an absolute joke and should be avoided by all at all cost. A disgrace for a town that is visited for it's fish and chips, it almost makes me ashamed to be British if this is what is on offer for any overseas visitors. I will not eat here again

We decided to go to this place,as we have been desperate for a cup of tea and tasty fish a chips as usually you can get in seaside resorts. The place was overpriced (e.g, can of coke £1.1, Budweiser0.33 l £3.0) but we didn't mind as long you could sit down a enjoy the view. Tea served in really small pot lasted for only 1.5 cup, but we paid for 2. Scampi served with chips (very greasy, not crispy, soggy and cold ) and limp, old salad, my boyfriend had fish and chips, to be honest fish wasn't bad at all. My sister however wasn't so lucky, she had cod bites with chips. The cod bites tested absolutely horrendous, three pieces smelled dodgy and tested funny. We called the young waiter, who didn't even bother to come back to us, after waiting for a while my boyfriend went into a restaurant to ask what was going on. The owner was very bolshie and wasn't happy about complain, he wouldn't taste or smell the fish, eventually he refunded the price of the cod bites. For me big disappointment as I wanted to treat my sister for tasty fish and chips instead she had nearly food poisoning. There are a few other places around sea front, check them first.

Threatened with an £80 fine for taking a bottle of lager onto the beach - a total lie. Do not believe what the mother and daughter outfit tell you - the council legal team have informed me that you can drink responsibly on the beaches in the area. Do yourself a favour use the cafe next door it's not licensed but the staff are really lovely. There was an awful smell inside the cafe like old oil - I didn't risk the food.

Spoiled our family day out as our trip was for the splendid fish & chips of Whitby.Disgusting fish & chips, unable to eat the oil battered carcass as little to no fish inside served with under cooked grey chips. He! Ho! I would have sooner thrown my £7.95 in the sea and made a wish. Please do not mistake this establishment as being part of the restaurant above “The Fisherman’s Wife”.

We tried this place after a long walk along the harbour side and wished we hadn't.The food was just about ok but for £7.95 for fish and chips, we were expecting a bigger portion than having them served up on a side plate! The place seemed clean enough but the owners were counting their takings when we arrived as the many staff were standing around waiting for customers. It didn't send out a good message.

The fish and chips were ok but the price £7.95 for a small portion of fish that was mainly batter and a couple of chips was a complete rip off. It is the first time I have had latte served in a tea pot.Best to avoid this place.

I love my fish & chips so when my daughter rang up and obtained a booking at short notice I was keen to try out this venue for myself after my daughter and son had sung it's praises. We travelled 36 miles from Teesside and I was not disappointed. The Service was excellent and generous portions of succulent fish were served with proper chips, a lovely treat. I wholeheartedly recommend you visit this coastal gem, you will love it. Add the bonus of whitby's wonderful scenery and you have the perfect setting.

On a day out at whitby wanting good but reasonable fish and chips for three people. Saw billboard for here advertising fish and chips for two £9.50 decided to give it a go. Place did not look too clean and ended up £20 for three small portions of fish and chips and three drinks. Fish and chips were nice but definitely small. Suitable for a child. Was nice sitting outside though without people passing right in front and good views. Took a while for food to come to as made to order I would have expected some ready on a bank holiday!

Strange mix of styles but the food was ok and not too overpriced. We didn't partake of the bar or pies in the hot cabinet... Eat here rather than next door... :)

Staff are very chatty to their friends but rude and bossy to customers. The tables were dirty, and no one was clearing away. The coffee is extremely strong and bitter It will be Costa next time……..

Ordered main meal which took about 30min. To arrive. Then we ordered dessert it was only two dessert by 35 min I asked the girl at the bar why the dessert was taking so long and our table had not been cleared she followed me back to the table and cleared saying sorry she was slow at it as she was only bar staff. 15 min later our dessert still hadn't arrived so I asked to see a manger who took another 10 min returned with a refund for the dessert but it still took another 10 before the dessert was served. In all we were there over 2hours for what should have only been at most an hour. Throughout we never got an apology. Atrocious service.
