BAYLEAF kitchen in Southampton

I had a lovely meal at Bayleaf Kitchen where the food was wonderful, very reasonably priced and the service was exceptional. All the staff were very kind and made it a delightful dining experience. I would definitely recommend and I will return again

Just had a take away, the 2nd time special requirements ignored, poppadoms were stale and delivered 30 mins past latest estimated time. Just not the standard I expect from this restaurant as was my favourite for a sit down Indian meal

Absolutely awful service for the third time! Don't bother ordering from their app as you are never going to get your food on time. When you call to ask where it is they lie and say you will have it in 5 minutes... Our delivery tonight was 1 hour and 55 minutes.. this is not the first time they were late and would not admit their mistake. If you want to order then do it through deliveroo and not their own delivery option.

Been here several times for the dine in experience and got a takeaway yesterday, just as good quality as it usually is and left everyone satisfied. Delivery was quick too, would recommend

A place I have visited on probably too many occasions, but they always have great food at reasonable prices. I am a huge fan of a chicken madras however here it does seem a little bit hotter than most places so I do recommend maybe going down a tad on the heat scale. It always has a great atmosphere with the staff however it can be very noisy in there because the tables are also close together and people coming in large groups so if you're after something quiet, maybe this isn't for you

An upper scale Indian experience in the heart of High street Southampton. Who would have thought a thousands years ago that there would be an awesome Indian restaurant right beside the venerable Red Lion! Friendly and engaging owner and attentive service. If the poppadums are excellent as a starter then all else follows suit, the butter chicken's sauce has depth in its flavour, the starters from the monkfish, to the kur Kur crab, scallops, are very good. The Monkfish main alone is worth the visit, soft fish cubes served in a wonderful not too spicy sauce good to the last drop. Several Naan options and the plain one is already very good. Wash it down with mango Lassi which is also great. Can get busy so reservations are recommended.

Loads of variety the 3 dishes I had were lovely and the ones around the table looked and smelled as good. They where happy to cook without ghee for me so I could enjoy more of there dishes

Extremely popular restaurant, popadoms and dips were great! Food was excellent, vindaloo did not disappoint in the ‘heat’ department. Staff were more efficient than friendly but it was very busy.

As usual, Bay Leaf delivered with fantastic food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. Book a reservation, as there was a line to get in and people were being turned away. Loved the starter for two, and a couple of veggie sides. Left nice and full!

Good Indian restaurant in the heart of Southampton but not as great as some of their incredible competitors. I found the Duck Tikka tandoori mediocre, it had pieces of bone/grizzle and overall not very exciting. My main, the Calcutta Monkfish was much better. Large pieces of monkfish in a flavorful sauce. I also found the piratha nice. Overall a good meal but not memorable.

I tested malai kofta, which is good in test. But Service is very poor. Most of the staff is Indian I feel that they give good service to non Indians but specifically if they know that you are indian, they will not take care too much as other.

After being let down by our original new years eve meal venue we booked Bayleaf Kitchen. I'm so glad we were let down by the first place! From the minute we arrived we received great service, everyone was so friendly. The food was fantastic, with large portions and cooked very well. We'll definitely be back!

We were recommended here by a friend who said that as Coriander doesn't deliver that this is the place to go, absolutely beautiful fresh food very authentic and delivery was very quick, the gentleman who delivered it was so polite and the price was more than reasonable. We have found our "go to" Indian takeaway after many attempts! Sorry but Kutis was appalling. I cannot recommend highly enough! 🙂 I cannot quote on atmosphere as we ate at home but if the atmosphere is as good as the food then it's a 5

Have visited countless times, everything from the food to the service to the atmosphere is second to none. This is exactly how a business should be run and the owner should be extremely proud, will continue to visit. The best Indian restaurant on the south coast.

Most authentic Indian taste. I regularly visit here while in Southampton. I would highly recommend it if you are looking for delicious North Indian food.

Top class food, a bit pricey bit good portion and friendly service.

Great food. Service was a little slow as they were full but guess that's to be expected. We had booked but got seated a bit late due to how busy they were. Took around 50 mins to get our mains (we didn't have starters). But we weren't in a rush so just enjoyed chatting. The food itself was great. Nice portions and decent price. Came to £30 each with 2 beers per person and sides. (£26 without a tip). Would visit again, perhaps when a little less busy 🙂.

Excellent meal at the Bayleaf. Visited in November with family, first time we have been. Wasn’t quite sure upon entering but led to the back of the restaurant and pleasantly surprised. Lovely food, great service and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Went here on the 20/9 after a very wet day at the Southampton Boat Show which was just down the road. Still raining very hard when I went in to the extent that some rain was dripping through the roof of the restaurant. I had a king prawn biryani with a side vegetable curry some popodums and a pint of Cobra. £22.15 the lot so not too bad. Quite a tasty meal although I didnt think the king prawns were that big. Place is clean and tidy with good toilets in the basement. But you have to go down quite steep stairs with treads that are a bit narrow so watch yourself. I can recommend this place and its in a central position in the main High Street.

Food is ok. But delivery service is awful. Extremely poor delivery and customer service. No commitments on delivery time when you order online and they keep you waiting for more than 2 hours

Vegetarian curry was with frozen vegetables,such a shame they didn’t use fresh vegetables,but the rest was very good

After checking the reviews, went there with the family to celebrate a birthday. Ambience is nice, even though there were nicer/quieter tables in the inside we were seated at the front in between 2 other groups (we were 4 so got seated at a table for 4). Being Indians ourselves were expecting the food to be more authentic but it wasn't as it has been customised to the British palate :-) . To be fair some of the items such as the Papdi chat, Dal Makhni did taste quite good but not the other items. Service was very prompt and quick inspire of being a busy evening. All in all it was good food and service but not great if you are expecting the Original Indian version.

Had a table for two here whilst stopping in Southampton pre cruise. What a find. For a city centre restaurant this place takes some beating. Quality of food was fantastic, very attentive service and a very reasonable price. Place was packed so obviously very popular. Luckily we had booked in advance. Would definitely return when in the area.

Level of service is not what it used to be. This used to be a favourite go-to of ours, but it has gone down gradually over the past couple of years.

Food was okay. But if you really hungry and you want to go bay leaf eat something before you go to the restaurant. Manager and the guy served food was good. It was so funny even if we say excuse me thousand times, if we need anything, the lady staff can't hear us. They focus on particular table. And they won't listen if we want something we waited ages to get a cake that we bought and give it to them. Waiting time is tooo long.

Having previously ordered the food has always been good. On this occasion the lamb was the toughest I have had from a takeaway. I asked for no extra corriander on my dish and looked like they had added extra. The poppadoms were soft and stale. I won't be ordering again rather spend the extra and order from corriander Lounge which is always excellent.

I've order more than 5 meals and I asked the receptionist lady about the quantity of popadoms and she replied rudely I'm not working in the kitchen. Very bad experience ever... Disappointed with service......

Had an excellent meal this evening, visited with the family for my birthday meal. Had some beautiful curries and excellent food all round. The manager/server suggested some more authentic dishes based on what we ordered for us to try and guaranteed if they weren’t better than our previous choices he’d replace them at no cost. These suggested dishes were exceptionally delicious! Outstanding service and great food! Thanks again

Authentic Indian food, quite tasty and spicy. Staff was friendly, food came on time and the portions were quite good. The food is adjusted for Europeans (i.e. less spicy) but if you ask the waiter they can make it feel like spicy authentic Indian

I went to this restaurant yesterday. Firstly, they don't know how to treat customers. all of the staff needs training. Then, 0% quality. I ordered starter, then staff said you need to give main course order as well otherwise I wouldn't be allowed to dine in. I was given the option to take away the food. Even the owner also told me the same. Very disappointed.!! I was suggested to go there by their loyal customer from Eastleigh, even he's shocked to hear this. Poor service

Keema vindalloo with Nan was delicious.

Don’t hesitate to walk in, if you are passing by like us. We entered based on a blog’s recommendation and oh my god we did not regret. Food is amazing, the service is outstanding like a 5 star restaurant. The maitre d was so attentive with waist coat and all. We had fantastic mango lassis , spectacular chicken butter tikka masala melting in your mouth and tasty and fresh lamb korma. Highly recommend. Don’t be deterred by the deco and lights, this is a food gem.

Came here to celebrate friend's birthday with a large group. I loved everything about this restaurant. Great atmosphere, amazing food and reasonable prices. I love Indian cuisine and I've tried most places, but this is my favourite indian restaurant yet. The portions are large, my daughter and I shared Korma. It was the best Korma I've ever tried! So creamy, coconuty and just full of flavour. I've also tried hubby's tikka masala and friend's vindaloo, it was delicious! Great selection of deserts, reasonably priced. We all ordered different ones and tried a bit of everything. I love coconuts, so coconut ice cream was definitely a winner for me. Also, Even though we had a large table, we did not have to wait long for the food and it all came out at the same time. Staff are very attentive, they are so polite, they called us sir and mam, which is really lovely. I would definitely visit again and would definitely recommend this restaurant.

A very good restaurant indeed. The food is wonderful and the service is excellent. You never have to flag the staff down, they are always aware. The poppadoms and dips are really good! The sign of a good restaurant - lots of their own culture eat there!

I went with my husband and baby like two days ago. We called them to book a table for 2adults and one infant around 6.15pm and we made the booking for 7.30 pm, booking was done under my husband's name. We reached there around 7.25pm. The girl at the front desk was so rude, no smile at all. She came into an argument with us saying that we didn't mention about an infant and she totally ignored us. She was with a very angry face. And then one other person came and directed us to the table. Food was really nice. But lost interest in food after having a really bad experience at the entrance. serving was nice. When we were served with food we asked for the high chair and she replied in anger. She didnt even smile or looked at us for our whole stay. Such a bad cuatomer service at the front table. Worst ever customer service experienced eversince I moved to the UK.

The staff was very polite and friendly they severed free drinks during the waiting time which was worth it. The environment is nice.

his is close to being an excellent retaurant. The food especially the swordfish starter ,service and ambience were all good. There were a couple of things that could be improved on. The service whilst very friendly lacked a little for example clearing away some plates before everyone had finished and when we arrived they struggled to find our booking. The other issue was the spice heat of the dishes. I specifically asked if my Dhansak could be medium but it came out so hot and spicey that I could only finish about half of it. I would still return but maybe selective about my dish choice

One of the best indian food restaurant in Southampton.

Booked a table for two at a particular time and the same was confirmed. Reached at the same time but the only table available was beside the door with people waiting there. Then was suggested for takeaways. I just leave 2 minutes from the restaurant so if that was there I shouldn’t have come only. Then it was rudely suggested to go back if that table was not required without giving any information how much time will take for a new table. If cannot handle crowd then please don’t take bookings.

Collection order got home 5 minute drive, food was cold, taste awful, hair in dish, bits missing and over 2 weeks to get a refund over 4 phone calls no communication and rude customer service... would not recommend

Good food in terms of spices as per Indian/Asian taste. In terms of vegetarian dishes, I would recommend Malai Kofta, laccha paratha, Dal Makhni. Don't forget to try their various chutneys along with papad. The owner and managers are quite friendly. However, when a little bit crowded, it usually takes a while for the food to be served.

Fantastic restaurant. Staff and very attentive and helpful. I wanted a main that wasn't on the menu and the manager was more than happy to sort. He was very good. The food is very tasty and fresh, big portions you won't leave hungry. And asked for takeaway boxes which they more than happy got for us. Will Absolutely recommend to anyone and hope to be a regular here.

Service time was horrible. Got starters and waited so long to try and order mains we just left. I must say a couple who sat next to me said it’s never that bad as the day I was there. Overall mediocre flavours with the dhal and the bhagi’s. The female staff that was available couldn’t take my order because of the little English she spoke. I asked to get some mains ordered then saw no one for over 30 mins. Got fed up waiting and asked for the bill. I Waited 25 mins and had to constantly keep asking anyone passing. Overall maybe I went on the wrong day but for me I won’t be returning!

Today me and my bf enjoyed a meal at the Bayleaf kitchen restaurant. That was our first time there. We had chicken tikka masala and dopiaza. Both curries were good. Big pieces of soft chicken. Nice sauce. The service was good as well. Very friendly and polite staff. We didn't have a booking but were seated at a nice table. We are very likely to come back.

Ordered lamb byriani to find a boiled egg hidden in the rice. Very odd

Best Indian restaurant there is. The food is simply excellent. I'm not a food critic but if you like curry you must, must, must come here once. Its very well priced, excellent portion sizes and great service. If you are going to visit I would seriously advise you to book a table in advance however.

Outstandingly good food and service. There were 11 in my party and everyone was served their food at the same time - and it was piping hot. The best Chicken Shishlik I've ever eaten, cooked to perfection. Thank you Bayleaf Kitchen, we will definitely be returning.

This is by far my favourite place for Indian food. Being an Indian I believe Bayleaf does a fantastic job in preparing Indian food. I love the food and keep ordering regularly. Mostly Indian restaurants in the UK prepare very less spicy food but not Bayleaf, it's food is just right.

Such a great buzzy evening with friends, tasty authentic food, good service, very impressed and will surely return! Hope the quality of the food stays consistent.

Excellent food, huge variety for the different tastes in the group. I chose murgh maskawala but also tasted the tami biriyani, both were delicious and thoughtful not just relying on a ton of spice. The food was fast but not TOO fast and the service was really nice.

On the plus side the food was really good and well worth coming for. The service though on an early Saturday evening was not great - apart from the younger chaps who brought the food and were absolutely fine, the various people who took the orders were unsmiling, functional and rather miserable. Plates were whisked away in an unseemly hurry and there was a clear agenda to get people out as soon as possible so the next lot could come in. I generally appreciate rapid service but this was just too much. I'll come back because the food is so good but will stick to takeaways.
