Bay Bar in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Cocktails were delightful. The spicy watermelon margarita was great but tiny and served in a thimble. The oh my mango/mango and pear cocktail was refreshing and lovely. Brooklyn lager? Poretti? We’re in Cornwall, a place continually fighting for its regional identity and you serve this muck instead of Korev/St Austel, offshore/Sharps, Harbour brewing, verdant, firebrand or any of the other many Cornish breweries? It’s insulting to Cornwall and also awful BEER!

We had booked an afternoon tea for 6 .looked all very nice .we were asked if we would like drinks which we had .but having to wait an hour for a cake and sandwiches was not really great it was a bit off a letdown as it was for a friend 60th birthday .we were very disappointed in the sandwiches .very small

I have enjoyed afternoon tea here a few times now, both as part of a spa day and for a lunch time treat. Always very enjoyable and great staff who make it a very relaxing experience. Can't wait for my next visit!

We ate here for two out of our four night stay. Food was very good and always warm. Service was exceptional from the staff. On both nights they were so busy but still found time to stop for a chat and make sure everything was ok.

First Day service poor so walked out without ordering, Second Day service excellent and food was amazing although the menu didn't really cover my tastes, I did find food to eat and all was good, Third Day service good 1 meal was exactly as the day before, but the Cod & Chips where greasy and the fish was very poor, how you can get the same meal so different is beyond me, didn't complain waiter was run off his feet as a wedding proposal was also being carried out, congratulations to the couple.

Pasta was rubbery, Luke warm and not enough for a main meal. Treacle tart not warm and they said they had no spoons 🤷🏼‍♀️

this is a good bar but not exceptional. there are probably better in the area but we enjoyed it most of the time.

We visited this place twice as we stayed at the hotel for a couple of nights.We were greeted by a waitress on arrival who told us to sit where we wanted - she then brought us some evening menus over. She then came back fairly quickly to take our order. Drinks were served quickly - but the jug of water we requested was unfortunately forgotten, but we decided to let this go. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. However, the waitress then forgot out side order - we reminded her about this and around five minutes later she brought it out. Food was good - we tried the Cajun chicken burger and the linguine. The waitress then removed our plates, but did not offer us dessert or coffee - we had to ask to see a menu. We decided to order a brownie to share but gosh we wish we hadn’t bothered! We were waiting almost an hour for this to arrive. We reminded the waitress about it (I think she had forgotten all about it) and then eventually it arrived. It was fine - but nothing spectacular! The Bay Bar did give us 10% off our bill, but unfortunately that didn’t even equate to the full cost of dessert. In the end, we didn’t want to keep on about the issues, so we left it. It was just such a shame as the food was good but the service is really poor. This is particularly disappointing as this is not a cheap place to eat! It really is rather pricey! On the plus side, we went back the next day and had a cream tea. The young man who served us was more attentive and there were no issues with this thank goodness!

Went to the hotel as family bought us a champagne afternoon tea for an experience. I was feeling quite excited as I have heard good reviews about the hotel. However, I felt quite let down by the customer service. The food was really good, however I have been for afternoon teas before in other establishments and felt quite special. This did not happen here. Arrived at reception and told to go to the bar. Sat at the table for 20 mins before being served drinks. It wasn’t a particular busy time of day. I had booked a time but I almost felt that we were doing them a service. Maybe a separate area for when people check in as I didn’t appreciate staff pleading with customers to upgrade to a sea view balcony room whilst trying to relax. We may not have spent the hundreds of pounds like most people there but we are still customers. The food was beautifully presented even though we had champagne. We were not offered tea/coffeeBit of a let down and not sure I would visit again.

I visited this very modern bar restaurant on my arrival to Newquay,was quickly attended to,and told it was table service.Waited 5 minutes and no service,so I ordered at the bar.My full English was of good quality,hot and plentiful.Would defiantly go back.

Lovely bar and relaxing area to sit and read with a nice drink hot or cold and has a full bar menu with sandwiches, light bites and snacks.

Visitamos aquí para el almuerzo el lunes mientras estaba lloviendo. La lluvia no estropeó la vista es para morirse, como es la comida de su servido. El bocadillo de dedo más increíbles de pescado y filete sándwich que jamás podrá experimentar con patatas fritas de camote. Las bebidas y la comida en esta ocasión servida por Adam, quien fue muy amable atento y educado (no está mal para un ventilador de chelsea)bien merece una visita no sólo por la comida y la bebida, pero para ver las vistas excepcionales

the bar at the bay is really nice it has a great selection of drinks and great decor i would defiantly be returning

We stopped in here for a drink it's a nice place I guess it's heaving in the height of summer especially on the nice terrace over looking the beach and sea

La comida estaba riquísima tuve salmón y el queso crema sandwich con patatas fritas y mi pareja tenía sandwich de cangrejo con patatas fritas que tenía en estos 2 días seguidos lo bien que nos lo pasamos! El servicio era terrible aunque el segundo día fuimos! Que no venga y disfrute nuestros pedidos, entonces cuando no nos tomó mucho tiempo y que no era liquidación cualquier mesas aunque repetidamente a pie pasando por ellos y mirando el vacío mesas llenas de platos sucios! Pero cuando la comida al final sí que era muy agradable

Fuimos para un descanso reparador día lo que estaba muy bien, pero la comida no era buena. Pescado estaba bien, pero las patatas fritas eran secos y nos fuimos. Cuando señaló cuando camarera recoge mi plato había ningún descuento en la factura. Muy pobre y deja en el hotel.

Visited the Bay Bar today just before 5.00pm. The menus were still on the tables for the Sunday Lunch specials and the website advertised this until 6.00pm.Tried to order and was told by a female it was only available until 5.00pm. After I explained it was adverised till 6 she aked what i wanted and said she would ask the kitchen if they would do it. She came back and said no.Also said something about having no meat they could serve us.She was very brusque and made no attempt to ask if we would like anything else or offer an apology.Needless to say we took our custom elsewhere and will not be back.

Had a couple of lunches at the bay bar,Couldn't fault anything,staff happy to help,very polite food good we will be back.

Great quality food and drink with an amazing view over Fistral. Staff are really friendly and welcoming. Eaten here a few times and never been disappointed.

This is a fantastic place to go, the food is excellent and they make a mean cocktail too. The best thing is the staff, they make you feel right at home, the best service you could ask for and more :)

I loved the oversized chairs and relaxed atmosphere. It could be a little chilly in the evenings so I would recommend taking a jumper or jacket with you.

We have visited this bar many times when staying at the hotel, using the spa or attending events and have never been disappointed in nearly 10 years! This visit was no exception, having booked some spa treatments in the hotel, my step daughter and I arranged to meet my husband and step son here after they had finished surfing at Fistral (too cold for me this time of year!) and once again we were more than impressed this place possibly has the best views of any bar in the UK and could get away with a lot for this reason however the service, choice and food is perfect they seem to cater for every need! Despite arriving mid afternoon when the team were preparing for large Xmas parties we were treated very well and served delicious food with plenty of choice of drinks.I can recommend this place for nearly everyone it is very easy to waste hours relaxing and taking in the amazing view.

We enjoyed an afternoon tea for two in the Bay Bar. The bar area is modern, clean and spacious. The staff were really friendly and helpful, even replacing the egg sandwiches from our afternoon tea with another selection when we said neither of us liked egg. The afternoon tea was delicious and great value, considering the quantity and quality of the sandwiches and cakes. The views of Fistral Beach from the bar are stunning.

Nice reasonably priced food in a modern bar setting with lovely views, also lovely to sit outside on the terrace on a nice day

Popped in with friends after a lovely walk was served up some spectacular cocktails by the lovely Emily and Bethany they certainly make a fantastic team! Lovely atmosphere, well organised and generally a lovely little spot to go and chill out, have a chat and generally feel welcomed, like a home from home! Good luck on your travels Emily! :)

A lovely relaxing bar with a wide range of seating available. Found it very reasonable priced for a hotel bar and the food available was also very nice with a choice of nibbles or something more substantial. on offer. All of the staff were very friendly and chatty always asking if we require anything .Great place to chillax and wave watch or people watch.

Firstly have to say the Bay Bar is a bit of a hidden gem. We were on our way to The Lewinnik, recommended by at least 3 taxi drivers during our stay in Newquay, deciding to make the most of surprisingly pleasant day we were walking. Obviously it decided to chuck it down. We saw a sign saying Non residents welcome and pegged it up the drive way. We asked at reception if we could pop in and have a drink until the rain stopped and the receptionist, Charlie I think, said it would be no probs, have a cocktail! so we did.There was a Jazz Duo playing, amazing. Ordered some drinks, amazing French guy, Albert? I think, twisted our arm for a cocktail....fantastic! The rest is history! From start to finish (much, much later) a brilliant time. Ordered food, burger and hotdog, both were gorgeous to look at and delicious. Spent the whole night chatting to the bar staff as they plied us with ever more interesting drinks, well done Justin for managing such an eclectic, but well rounded team.

Had lunch here. We sat outside and admired the views. We just had sandwiches but they were nice and a good quality. The staff were polite and attentive. Couldn't ak for more

Take care at the bar, if you order a glass of wine, the hotel policy seems to be to automatically give you the largest size glass of the most expensive bottle. Maybe the staff need more training to offer options, but If this is a sly way to make the most out of each guest, it is not very nice. As a local, I won't be going back.

What fantastic views! Service was excellent and the food was very good. As a vegetarian I don't always get a very good choice but there was ample to choose from on the menu.

We ate here with a 10 month old and four year old. Granted, it was about 7.15 when we ate, but we really did not appreciate the crowd of people around out table watching the football.The TV screens shouldn't be placed around like they are. There were several quite drunk people standing around our table using quit colourful language whilst watching the game! However, the food was realy good. We had steaks with chips and bearnaise sauce. The meat was cooked perfectly and it was really good value for money.

Having stayed at this hotel previously we were very impressed with the make over it had received.The staff were very pleasant and and the view was very pleasant.

Very relaxed nice comfy sofas and big windows with views overlooking the bay, prices same as outside bars, meals were also lovely

Ordered am omelette at 3pm when bar was fairly empty, it took over half an hour for it to come and the caramelised onions were raw so very disappointed and didn't order food from there again during rest of stay.

We had, fistral sunset and long island ice tea and becuase it was the bfs boyfriend paid for a regular but got a large! :-) how lovely!! they were delicious!!

Spent a couple of very pleasant evenings in the Bay Bar. The view is glorious, especially when the clouds lifted to reveal a lovely sunset. A nice selection of beers on tap and reasonable prices on reasonable wine. One bottle of fizz arrived warm but they promptly put it on ice for us and it tasted great. Had a sharing platter for dinner one evening and it was massive + very tasty. Would definitely stop by again.

the sex on the beach cocktail was so nicethe smooties :pineapple sunset and power granate was yum yum.

We went for two nights beginning of Jan 2012 and it was so quiet in the it was lovely, the lighting was perfect, one of the speakers though were blown and kept going from really loud and crackley to really quiet which wasnt that nice, we did ask if they could turn the speaker off which we got told no but they did turn it down so at least that was some thing

Lovely place for pre-meal drinks. Quite pricey but in beautiful surroundings, cosy chairs and friendly atmosphere.

The bay bar has the best view in the whole of Newquay.. The staff, food, atomatsphere and service were all brilliant! I was staying at it's sister hotel the Esplanade and we went to the bay bar 6/7 times for lunch and the first day we didn't know about! I can only give praise everything is great!!

We were staying next door at the Esplanade, and thought we'd visit here for a cocktail. Lovely views from the bar, although I don't recommend sitting outside - a few tables surrounded by wooden bars. It's like being in an outside prison! The staff were a bit rude, which was disappointing as the staff in our hotel were lovely.
