Popped into Batchelors for a quick coffee and snack- what a good decision! The cafe had a calm and welcoming atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and helpful. With such a range of tempting savoury and sweet goodies available, it was hard to make a choice. With a steady flow of customers, Batchelors is obviously a popular venue. Long may it continue!

An iconic Swiss-style cafe, very traditional! It is spotlessly clean & has an eclectic menu. The owner Gill is very hospitable and obviously puts her heart & soul into this business. Her partner Stuart is very friendly & welcoming. Gill is an aficionado of fine bone china & it is delightful to have our drinks, toasties & cakes served on beautiful china. Bachelors opens on Saturdays at 6am and we are regulars at this hour during the busy term time, as my daughter is a teacher at a private school with very little free time. We are always made to feel welcome, despite the early hour. We love the iced coffee, chai latte & pastries.

I was lucky enough to get some amazing vegan treats from here last Christmas as a gift and wanted to visit the cafe. Am so pleased I did. The food is delicious and lots of options to choose from if you want a quick snack. Freshly made bread in a sandwich is so much better than the pre-packaged ones. Coffee and cakes were amazing. Am so looking forward to the Vegan Christmas mince pies. Great service and unique decor makes it even more special. Only downside is they shut earlier than most places. 14.30, but they do open at 6am, so good if you want an early start :-)

Cakes to DIE for! Sooo yummy and a fab retro feel to the cafe. It has retained the original decor from the 1950s, even the original chairs. The coffee is excellent, all cakes and breads made in house and I love the fact that they make some really retro cakes and buns that you don't really see any more these days. I eat a takeaway regularly and often have their amazing sausage rolls. The pastry is the absolute crispiest. They also do a super tasty vegan slice with that same crispy pastry. We order cakes regularly for our business (an offering to guests who stay in our holiday let) because we know their cakes are made with love and always made that morning. Well worth a visit if you are in Margate.

Nice food, poor service. We got coffee from the costa across the road and when walking past the patisserie we liked the look of the croissants, so decided to pop in to get one. Felt unwelcome from the reception of the lady behind the counter but we ignored and continued our purchase. We sat outside to eat and drink, then another lady came out and asked us to leave because we were drinking costa coffee. Considering we were also eating food purchased from their business, we were sat outside and there was plenty of available seating (no others sat outside) did we really deserve to be moved on? Shame as this was our first visit and we won't be returning.

A real novelty patisserie. An unusually bespoke collection of cakes that you would struggle to find anywhere else. Friendly approachable staff always willing to make an extra effort to cater for your needs. Perfect for anyone who prefers a gluten free diet. Great to have a break from the average cafe. A rare find that sadly today, are in short supply.

Oh my. I've always been a fan of German style baked cheesecake, but this one, with a layer of cherry (or apricot or local Victoria plums, the fillings vary with the season) is truly splendid. Proper strong tea and lush coffee too. A retro delight.

Step back in time to this patisserie in Margate, Kent. This is not like other bakeries. Probably one of the best places to get a French Mac, but you have to be quick, they sell out quickly. In fact they sell out of most things quickly. I normally order in advance. If you like quiche then try the wide selection available, especially the cheese. Order at the counter then sit down and wait for your order. Highly recommend this place

Heart shaped pink eclairs, citron roll ,violet chocolate brownies, great quiche and rolls which they will make up for you, charming vintage decor with small formica tables/chairs and good coffee . It's family run and still as good from when I heard of it and first visited. You can also take away a selection of mini patisserie..and now they have the radio hand towel dispenser [ you'll have to find it] .Go now , but save me a cake, as I missed out the pink raspberry eclairs last time

Not for you if you want 50 different types of caramel frappe latte, this place just offers GREAT coffee. Sausage rolls, quiche and donuts are high on my favourites. Sells the best builders tea I have ever tasted. Kept everything good about the old place, and gained one or two pluses when the current owners took over. A very sensitive approach. Friendly and consistently high standard. Good on special cake orders too.

I think this place has received a fake review or two #jealous. My partner and I visit all the time and the cakes are always delightful. The reviewer before me mentioned staff turnover which I've not noticed visiting a few times a week. One member has been there over ten years. The original Swiss baker still visits once a week for coffee and cake which is sweet, I got chatting to him and he's super proud of the owners that have kept the recipies the same for 50 years and says sometimes he goes in to bake for special occasions. I have also met the owners and their daughter, think this counts as a family business, maybe they needed to have more kids for the other reviewer to be happy, and to answer his question a family run business for over 50 years must have Each owner running it with their family. Anyway cakes and coffee are stunning and the staff can never do too much for you, try the truffle torte and the avocado cake, the avo cake is vegan so you can feel healthier eating it! Only have one constructive criticism, please increase your prices you are too cheap for the quality of your food.

Overpriced and not what I was expecting. I used to visit this establishment regularly when the Swiss owner baked there and the cakes and pastries were exceptional. The coffee was ok but the truffle torte was nothing like I remember and definitely well past it's sell by date. I am puzzled as to why their window is emblazoned with 'Family run business since 1967' when the current owners have only been running it for 4 or so years??? VERY misleading!A very high turn over of staff tells me all I need to know .

On the recommendation of our 94 year old neighbour Maurice , who sadly passed away recently , my wife and I popped in to see whether his advice was sound. It was !! We had Earl Grey tea, buttered scones, and a cake each. It was all delicious and the ladies who prepared and served it were charming. The mark of a good establishment is also to be seen in the state of the toilet facilities, which were spotless and most hygienic. Thanks Maurice!

i ordered a special cake called Queen of Puddings four weeks ago. They took two weeks to even get back to me confirming my order and answer my questions. over those two weeks i called at least once a day and got told someone would call me back, which they never did. when they eventually got back to me i paid a deposit of £25.00 and was told all would be perfect. on the day of picking up the cake i phoned to see if we could pick up the cake before twelve, i spoke to Julia who is the rudest woman i have ever spoke to,she advised me that she couldn't confirm if we could collect the cake early as there was other people in front of us . i asked when the earliest would be possible to collect she rudely advised she didn't know. Her customer service was appalling, at no point did she even attempt to resolve the situation. I advised her that we would no longer need the cake as collecting it later would not work as the cake was for a lady that was leaving work before twelve , she then advised we would still need to pay for the cake. To be honest she was so rude i just wanted to get her off the phone and told her to keep the deposit but we would not be paying any more money. I would advise any one who is thinking about ordering a cake for a special occasion not to use this shop as they will be very disappointed.

We visited here during half-term as my partner wanted to go to a Patisserie for brunch treat. We took our small children, and they loved it. The staff were super friendly and gave us some welcomed advice about our trip. The setting is retro and absolutely delightful. Sausage rolls were the best ever and the cakes were so good that I loaded up for the next day as a treat. I wish there was a Batchelors near me. For lunch we had filled croissants which were lovely. The kids had Halloween cakes which were great fun, a cookie monster and a Mummy gingerbread. Would visit here again at a heartbeat.

We pre-booked a surprise birthday lunch for x5 and arrived to find a prettily laid tea table, set with china teapot and cups - from which tea was kindly replenished and served throughout lunch. The cheese quiche and salad was as delicious as ever (as too was the spinach and cheese plait .... not-to-mention sausage roll, cheese scone and scrambled egg on toast). We gorged ourselves on a selection of patisseries which included Florentine, cream slice and cheese cake. Forget about calories when the food is so tasty and irresistibly scrumptious. Thank you Bachelors' staff. You did us proud.

Unfortunately we cannot rate this as highly as would like due to the lacklustre welcome. As first time visitors to the area, in need of a quick coffee boost, this café looked lovely with its impressive array of delicious looking patisserie. However, on first asking if there was a loo facility was rather abruptly told no. So crossed legs continued with our coffee. It was only on leaving, and asking a nice lady on the bread counter where the nearest facility, she helpfully advised there was a public loo across the road (where we could have gone whilst waiting for our coffee!)

Having been going here for years, now under new owners the cheese scones are twice the size - but they needed to be. The only real change apart from the size of the scones is that it has been redecorated BUT the drinks service has got worse, at best it is mediocre and at worse indifferent, it is worrying when the you are the only person waiting to be served and the table wiping becomes an essential activity. The staff selling cakes and bread in the 'shop' area are very good. Will still visit though for the delicious cakes and breads.

Felicity’s Cafe at Quex in Birchington is an absolute gem. Picture this—you roll up to this quaint little spot, and from the second you walk in, it’s got that vibe. Friendly, warm, like you’re part of the family. We’re talking fresh, local ingredients that just hit differently. The coffee? Smooth. The cakes? Sweet but not too sweet. Service? Spot on. The folks here treat you right, not in some fake, scripted way. You can tell they care, like they want every dish to be a hit, and let me tell you—it is. You want cozy, comfort, and quality all wrapped up in one? Felicity’s Cafe nails it.

My friend and I went here for the first time on a weekday lunchtime and found seating downstairs. As all busy upstairs and we didn’t want to sit outside or in the covered walkway to the cinema area. We both thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and coffee. I had prawn and avocado sandwich on brown bread with salad and Kent Crisps my friend had smoked Salmon and cream cheese bagel that also came with salad and crisps. The cakes looked very nice but we were a bit full to try them probably will in our next visit. The staff were very friendly and efficient. I will definitely go back!
