Although we were guests at the hotel, when we were checking in we were informed that we had to eat in Jocks Bar which is NOT a nice place. Curious to see why not, we went to have a look and found the restaurant to be half empty save for a long table of golfers. We also happened to be on a golfing break. If the hotel advertises a restaurant then they have no right to deny access to that facility. We felt cheated.

We booked a table a couple of days before, and arrived for our booking only to find that at some point it had been decided to close the restaurant because it was ‘so quiet’ that night. Despite leaving a phone number, nobody had contacted us to tell us and the apologies from the restaurant staff were perfunctory. Dreadful.

We stayed at The Green on DBB rate and were most dissapointed with the menu in Basil's, too many dishes had supplements added to price if you were on DBB, a sirloin steak was priced on the menu at 26 pounds and 12 pound supplement if you were DBB. Other than soup the starters without additional cost were few and far between. We opted for chicken supreme as a main which was fairly plain fare and nothing to rave about, our starter was a savory tart which again was a let down. We had actually booked for our second night in Basil's, this we cancelled and dined elsewhere and had a far better meal at similar cost. Sorry Basil, we are not too hard to please, however your food did not hit our spot!!

After reading the other reviews, I can’t believe we had such a dreadful experience here. We were staying in the hotel for our anniversary weekend on a breakfast only basis, and decided to try eating in Basils on our first evening. When we arrived , the Restaurant was empty apart from a single large table of ten. The waitress asked if we had booked - we had not - and she then hummed and hahed tapping a pen between her teeth while looking round the empty room. We were given a table for two and a menu each...then promptly ignored for twenty minutes. No drinks order, no food order, no one looked at us. The same waitress was scuffing back and forth serving food to the table of ten. ‘More bread please’. ‘But I didn’t order the hake?’ Hake is removed from table. ‘Oops sorry yes I did’. Hake is brought back. ‘More wine please’. Meanwhile, we are sitting genuinely wondering if we had suddenly become invisible. One other girl and two men in waistcoats passed at a distance, obviously staff, but no one so much as looked out way. Eventually we waved the poor waitress over and she took our drinks order, but she didn’t know what a ‘white zinfandel’ was, and looked completely blank when asked for an ‘ale shandy’. We probably should have left at that point....however, another ten mins pass before our food order is taken. My husband ordered the fish, and I decided to push the boat out with a sirloin steak at 25.00. By this time another couple have arrived and have been sitting near us, also getting absolutely no attention or service. So - that’s a table of ten and two tables of two...and not a staff member in sight. I heard the man say to his wife, if they haven’t taken our order by the time I get back, we’re leaving. Our food eventually arrived and my steak was raw, and literally stone cold. Husbands fish was perfectly cooked if bit small and, to be fair, he was happy with it. I then genuinely waited another ten mins staring at a cold steak as there was no one around to speak to about my food. The place was like the Marie Celeste, especially when the other couple left, giving us sympathetic looks and shrugs on the way past. It was unbelievable. Finally a supervisor appeared and my congealed meal was sent back to the kitchen. A new steak came back ten mins later properly cooked but it wasn’t twenty five quids worth and I didn’t enjoy eating it, sitting opposite my husband and his empty plate. We couldn’t wait to get out of there. To add insult to injury we were fully charged for the complete meal without any reduction or goodwill gesture, and as a further slap in the face - on further inspection of the bill when we got back to our room we discovered we had been charged a steak supplement of Ten pounds on TOP of the twenty five pounds! This supplement is supposed to be paid by staying guests INSTEAD of the twenty five pounds if you are staying on a dinner room rate...they couldn’t even get that right. You would think they would have checked and double checked our bill given the dining experience we had just had! Safe to say we will never ever return.

No atmosphere and pretentious. The evening we dined all diners were seated in one small area and the rest of the room was empty. This did not add anything to the dining experience. Also hate being squeezed onto a 2 person table when larger ones remained prepared and un used.

The restaurant was only 1/3 full but we were told it would take 1 hour to get a table for a family of 3 because "the kitchen is busy"... Dinner with a 3 year old is over in less the 30 minutes and an hour wait is not an option. To not recognice that is either stupid or not serviceminded. If you stay at a hotel you expect to be able to eat there and not have to take the car and go somewhere else to eat. No where I will ever visit again!

We ate dinner there Mon 17th Oct for a family birthday. It was a third choice as limited open options for a Monday night in Kinross. Table was booked for first seating at 6:30. Doors were still locked until 6:35 and then there was no-one available to show us our table in a very empty restaurant. We got seated after 2-3 minutes of waiting at the podium. Server was still setting up, putting candles and glasses on all other tables. The host was very enthusiastic and even acknowledge our celebration by bring a glass of Presecco for all of our party. Sadly she then offered her suggestion of mixing red wine with cherry coke! My father in law, the wine connoisseur was appalled! Service was very slow, but there appeared to be only two workers, the host and the server. It took ages to have our main dishes cleared away, apologies were offered and then it was another age until the bill was presented. The food was sadly Ikea/canteen quality. Our table started with either the duck terrine or the trio of salmon. The duck was described by me husband as horrible but there was a good portion and the salmon was nice but very small portion. There was a dollop of mayonnaise which appeared to have congealed layer to it.Mains were varied over the table, ribeye which described by father in law as a very poor steak, pork which came with mashed potatoes which were vile, lamb which was fairly tasteless served with lukewarm couscous and fish which was enjoyed by mother in law. Eventually we looked at the pudding menu and had a pavlova dessert which looked like it had been plated up the day before and a cheese platter which came with Branston pickle. No complaints about the coffee or the petite fours which were all eaten. Thankfully we did not come for the food or the service as it was a convenient half way point to celebrate a family birthday. We did not complain as we just wanted to have some quality family time together.

I recently had a business Lunch at Basil's. The palm trees that besieged the restaurant transformed the lifeless, ceiling-tiled ambience, into a thriving, little restaurant. Although the lack of natural light is an issue, the murals that cover the wall paint a much nicer picture than the grey personality of the kingdom of Fife. I had the soup, although traditionally a peasant dish, when the seasoned rhapsody of lentils washed over my taste buds like the waves that sunk the mythical city of Atlantis. What a brilliant example of lentil soup! Unfortunately, due to the self interest of some of our party, I was left with a poor selection of vegetarian sandwiches, without even a sourdough option. Despite this flaw, the egg mayonnaise sandwiches were excellent. The emergency exit signs were well-marked which kept me at ease throughout my meal and the waiting staff were fantastic. Meredith, my server, notified the more immature members of our party, to the local Pokemon gym, which kept them busy throughout lunch. All in all, lunch at Basil's was excellent although Hong Kong dollars were not accepted which left me unable to pay for my meal.

Myself and my husband stopped in past Basil's Restaurant on Friday evening (11th Sept) on our way to Edinburgh. When we entered the dinning room there was only another table of 2 and a table of 4 there so we thought to ourselves it would be perfect as we'd be able to grab a quick dinner (we were after some proper food rather than a fast food chain at the side of the road) and get back on the road.My husband thoroughly enjoyed his main of Pork Belly however my chicken dish was supposed to come accompanied with roast vegetables which turned out to be more of a spoonful of finely diced salsa, my block of potato was also hard and black in the middle. We opted to have desert which was delicious, the treacle tart was divine and my husband also polished off his sticky toffee pudding saying it was lovely. The main problem was the staffing issue they seemed to have. dinners were left in the dining room whilst the waiter & waitress ran back and forth trying to also serve those standing at the bar outside. We asked for our bill and were told she'd be straight back with the card machine, we then proceeded to wait 20 minutes until we caught sight of anyone to ask to pay again to then be told we have to go through to the bar as the card machine doesn't move!Upon entry to the bar to eventually pay 4 members of staff were seen standing chatting among themselves, highly frustrating when you've been waiting so long for someone to take your money! My husband did mention this to the waiter who processed our bill however he proclaimed to have no idea what the issue was and shrugged off his comments.Disappointing main course and staff!

I really have to commend all the kitchen and serving staff on the quality & value of service and food my party received. For the price of £25.50 for three courses I was not expecting the quality of the food to be as good as it was. Having previoulsy enjoyed the food at the Green Hotel's pub grub location (Called Jock's Bar(, we thought we would celebrate at the more upmarket Basil's Restaurant. We were pleased that we did. The staff were friendly, the menu was interesting and the food service was great. When the food arrived, we were not disappointed. Portions were smallish to moderate (which suited us) but food presentation and taste were really first-class. Best of all, it was good value for money. Fixed price £25.50 for three courses which was very fair. Oh, and lastly, amience, music and atmosphere was very nice indeed. What could they do better? Well, wine was a problem area which needs improvement, in my opinion. For example; No wine list offered with the menu,No-one offered to take our wine order,Very limited choice of wine by the glass,White wine served in large, red wine glasses,Red wine served in small, white wine glasses,Waiter response when we asked for clean glasses for our red wine " I think we're short of glasses",Wine list needs review - pretty ordinary selection at too-high prices,We eventually chose a Chablis at around £31 (from memory) which seemed £10 too expensive, and a Cotes Du Rhone at roughly double the price it was worth,Waiter at the bar didn't have a clue what I was talking about when I tried to order wine. He asked me to point to the wine I wanted on the wine list,No wine arrived at the point our starters had been delivered, we hada to ask for it,The excellent Restaurant Manager sorted out all of these problems, but with a bit of staff training on wine service, they could have been avoided.Or perhaps the employment of a wine waiter - suitably trained.........But, all in all, despite the wine problems, an enjoyable venue and I would definitely recommend it for a visit. The only other thing I would change is that awful name, Basil's. It send completely the wrong message!!

The food was generally ok, but one steak, cooked "medium" was so tough as to be barely edible. To be a bit more positive, the decor and atmosphere were good, but we won't be returning any time soon.

We stayed for a night at The Green Hotel & dinner was served in Basil's restaurant. We were welcomed by a lovley professional hostess. The food was of a high standard and the service was also very good. Our waitress Megan was very good! There was a set menu on offer for the DB&B deal with a choice of 5 starters, mains and desserts. I opted for smoked salmon mousse, chicken stuffed with spinach and a mango parfait! Very tasty. Wine was reasonable priced and there was a wide selection.

Good quality food although portion sizes differed greatly. Sea bass which was on the small size as opposed to roast beef which was 2 massive slices of superb quality with all the normal trimmings. Staff were friendly but service, on an evening when they weren't over stretched, tended to be on the slow side. I don't want to be rushed but I don't want to have the impression that I've been forgotten either. It was nice to be in a location where conversation can be had without having to raise voices over canned music.

Fantastic meal, staff were lovely! I had a dessert that was so beautiful, it seemed a shame to eat it, but I did. Mike had a rib eye steak which he really enjoyed.

This is the restaurant in the Green Hotel. The food was excellent, well prepared and well served by smiling helpful staff. A highlight of our two day stay at the hotel.

Loved the choices, loved the food ,taste and presentation. Waiter had no wine knowledge whatsoever and the wine we ordered was not chilled enough. Did notice that the bottles of white wine that were part of the "offer" were all lined up on a table. Maybe if we had chosen from the wine menu it would have been different. Staff were all very pleasant and friendly though.

The food here was excellent. Very well presented and good flavours. We had bruschetta for starters which was absolutely delicious. For main course, my husband had sirloin steak which was very good and I had seafood risotto which was wonderful. Lots of nice fish in it. We had a bottle of Valpolicella which was also lovely. We had not had valpolicella for years and were surprised at the quality. Service was excellent and the waiter was really nice. The meal cost us a total of £50 and we left a £5 tip.

Almost 5 pounds for a cappuccino for which no order has been taken at first, for which you then have to wait more than 20 minutes, with a spoon and sugar missing and, as a highlight, a 10% service fee appears on the bill? As beautiful as it is in Gleneagles - unfortunately we didn't like it at all...

Went for lunch yesterday with my parents and dog on arrival our table was clearly marked ours and there was already a bowl of water awaiting my dog I thought this was super sweet and thoughtful, the waitress we had was brilliant with my wee Jack Russell she gave him a few biscuits and attention he loved it. Service was quick and the food as always was delicious. Lovely warm welcoming place to eat out and we always choose here when we go for lunch. Great menu lots of choice.

We were enjoying a nice drink in the beer garden one sunny afternoon, when a youth started shouting & swearing at us because we were English (which was funny in itself because none of us are 100% English). The locals were appalled at his behaviour & the landlord immediately ejected him, however, it cast a shadow on our visit.

I give up, I really do. Have stopped using the restaurant because the food is pretty poor and the staff are surly at best. This morning I wanted to purchase a food item which they have stocked for years. First young girl I asked couldn't understand what I was asking for, second one said they didn't stock it although she has served me in the past and the third one said it had sold out but they might be getting some in in a couple of weeks. Several other local people have mentioned how rude the staff were. Hospitable is not a word you can use for this place and yet years ago it used to be good on all counts.
