Never had a bad meal at this restaurant, first class meat and vegetarian options.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! Went for a meal with friends last week. Very rude staff, we felt on edge the whole time. Waiters stared at us, made us feel like we had done something wrong. Staff had no manners. Food was just chucked on the table. Food was nice, however, only going two stars as two of my friends were unwell the next day. Nicer Indian restaurants around with much nicer staff.

My recent visit to Barton Rouge Indian Restaurant was nothing short of disappointing. From the outset, it was clear that the restaurant was not aware of our booking, which set a disorganized tone for the evening. My friend has his rice basically thrown at him, nothing was place down elegantly or with care. I felt as though I was in a fast food place. The general service was cold and indifferent. Despite multiple reminders, my friend's drink was completely forgotten, highlighting a lack of attention to detail. To top it all off, both my friend and I ended up with food poisoning after our meal. This not only ruined our night but also raised serious concerns about the restaurant's hygiene standards. Overall, our experience at Barton Rouge was profoundly disheartening, and we certainly won't be returning.

Lovely food reasonably priced, very nice interior

Visited this evening with my family. A little disappointed as we waited over an hour for our main course, restaurant wasn’t overly busy and when it did come was a little on the cold side. We weren’t offered any other drinks and no one asked us if everything was ok with the meal (surely this is standard practice in every restaurant now.) We then felt very rushed to leave the table as the restaurant got a little busier. We won’t be rushing back there… Gate of India across the road is much more welcoming…

I am from India so I went there with my friends like most of British people were there they were trying to give priority to these people and does not care about over Oder we still around 45 minutes after they give us food and also they were trying to cheat in bills like we Oder 6 chpati and they write 8 so like they were trying be very clever so i don’t like there service

I loved it and so did our guests. Food was delicious and the service for a Good Friday was prompt and very courteous.

Absolutely awful slow service. If you can’t handle the volume of customers don’t take the bookings!!!

We have used Barton Rouge on many occasions, however, recently the quality of the food has really dipped. The Korma was bland and loaded with coconut which gave it a really grainy texture. The curry sauce with my Chicken Shaslik was swimming in oil or ghee and I had to remove it with kitchen roll before I could put it on my plate. There doesn’t seem to be any control on the heat of individual dishes with medium strength dishes served as hot. The latest meal was not enjoyable at all, so, sorry to say that we will not be returning unless Barton Rouge sort out their chefs. Awful.

No idea what food was like as our table reservation was ignored and there's only so long prepared to wait, without any apology or drinks etc. So make Christmas hay whilst the sun shines lads, because come January, the locals will probably have deserted you

Booked a table for a 7pm meal and arrived on time. The receptionist greeted us, didn't check the booking at all, and we were ushered to a waiting area with at least 5 other groups waiting for tables. It was only when a table became free that a group was seated, so booking appeared to be useless.We questioned when our table would be free on numerous occasions, as did other groups. After a 45 minute wait we called Gate of India, nearby. They seated us immediately and we were probably eating before any of the groups waiting in Barton Rouge. Obviously can't comment on the food as we didn't get any

Terrible experience. Do not go. Booked a table last night for 7.30 pm. No customer service ....placed in a holding area. Others in same boat. Left without a meal. Never go here and I'm a local to Chester

The food was nice but the servicexwas very poor.

Six of us all had different dishes from starters to mains and all were first class.

Waited nearly 2 hours for our starter…. Complained nicely and from then on had plates snatched out of our hands, dirty looks and the excuse was… everyone else is waiting too! Shame about the attitude as the food was really nice when we got it.

Poor experience overall. We waited 1 hour and 40 mins for our starter and when we complained we had attitude from a couple of the waiters, snatching cutlery and plates from us. The manager came to our table but really didn't care about our complaint and only stared they were very busy and others were waiting which is not a reason. We definitely will not be back

I really like the food here. I had jalfrezi, rice and chapatti and the usual starters of pickles & poppadoms. Mine was lamb jalfrezi, tender, spicy and plentiful. However, I was eating alone, and not offered another drink or asked if my meal was OK. Was quite busy so plenty of chatter, couldn't hear any background music if there was any. I thought the decor was getting a little tired but maybe they'll invest. I'd still happily return for the quality and flavour of the food. Remember your fav dish will be different at every restaurant. Well worth a visit

Hi all, So I am sid and I am from Mumbai, I specially visit restaurants after reviewing it on Google, but experience here was a big failure, I ordered mix grill platter which comes with chicken and lamb, chicken was very poor and lamb was so hard and stiff I couldn't chew it. My second dish was a highly recommended exotic Balti if I am not wrong and the only part I liked was taste of gravy which I though it wil be hot but was sweet, chicken inside the gravy was super yukk...not marinated properly nor it was tender....just a frozen thick piece feels like removed from fridge n putten in gravy and tossed With some stupid spices. My 3rd dish was a prawns biryani and sorry but it was a pulav boiled with little little prawns in it. I order 4 dished total and the person took my order and went away. I was there with my wife who is a dentist by profession and obviously we thought after taking these orders he will serve us one by one hot but they gave us the entire order togher at once, upon asking how can we eat all together and the food will get cold by the time, the team don't even felt like asking if we need all togher or not as I thought it should be a common sense on hospitality service. And the very last thing I really hate this that these guys are from Bangladesh and they are running the restaurant by Indian name and this spoils the Indian food name. To be honest I don't recommend this place for any Indian foodies at all. And sorry for this harsh review but I felt this was very important.

Fantastic curry experience "elephant ear" garlic naan bread was simply delicious - this evening we had Hyderabad Ghosht - outstanding - and we had the Cheshire and North Wales Law Society Junior Lawyers Quiz and Curry night last week - everything was outstanding - the hospitality - service - and food 😀

Food and service good but not excellent. For a table of 12 we wanted the bills split into couples the waiter found this difficult and I had to explain to his boss that we needed six separate tabs. It shouldn’t have been difficult but it was. Good value. Not enough toilets to cater for a full house and rather messy.

Best curry I’ve had since moving to Chester.

Food was a 7/10. The food quality is good. But the service that I've received after being there for the third time never improved. Waiter hurrying to receive the order, always gives a reason that the kitchen will be closed soon. Also, the receptionist was the rudest staff I've ever came across.

Food was excellent. The Paneer Tikka was one of the best I have had. My wife required food without onion, garlic and potatoes and the server worked with the chef to customize a dish for her. It was really nice to see the restaurant accommodating her request. Ambience is good too.

Don't get what the recent negative reviews are all about (competitive rivalry from near by Indian restaurants?) We went 27th September and all 4 of us thought the food was great, best Indian meal we have had in a long time and would highly recommend.

Went walkabouts with the lads from work + it's been a few years since I've been, but I personally believe it's the best in Chester, couldn't fault it ,+ my mates said the same 👍

One of the best Indian meals I have had. Absolutely lovely, we all agreed it was a lovely meal.

Very well run and friendly staff and reasonably priced

Excellent food and very good service all round. I phones ahead to rmenquire about their gluten free options as I am celiac and they were all incredibly helpful and informative on what I could and couldn't eat. Off memory, all of their curries are gluten free as they use corn flour instead of wheat flour. Had a fantastic meal on confidence. Thank you.

We had a very enjoyable meal here. The service was excellent, and the food was fresh, tasty and one of the nicest Indian meals we’ve had on our holiday including from a few big establishments in London.

Great food . If anything the portion sizes are too big so came away really full. Must try the family nan bread though as not seen a nan thus big anywhere else. 😀😀😀😀

Avoid this place at any cost. Horribly sweet and sticky curries. This is not an Indian cuisine, it's just made up cuisine using some blended spices and lots of sugar. Definitely, not worth wasting your money rather get a Tesco curry which is 10x better then theirs.

We have visited this restaurant before and we vowed to go back. Again a fantastic experience with great staff who went out of there way. The restaurant is clean and the food is hot and your not sat there waiting ages. Thank you for another great meal. We will return again.

We had dinner here while staying locally. Service was OK, no ambience in the restaurant... Maybe some music would help. My husband had the keema and I had the tandoori butter chicken. My husband really enjoyed his food, my curry was horrible. Chicken was definitely not tandoori seasoned and was very tasteless. The curry had something missing. Naan bread, rice and poppadoms were nice and portions were big. I really wish I ordered something else. Restaurant was very busy so obviously very popular. I would probably give it another go if I was in the area again but order something else.

Visited earlier this week for a birthday celebration. Excellent choice of food and everyone enjoyed the evening.

Place is like a ice box - Sat in our coats, I asked waiter to put heating on and the owner just laughed ! Chicken like rubber - Avoid .

A fairly extensive menu with a number of interesting variations. Spices were carefully blended and my two-chilly Korai was not overly fierce to avoid over-powering the flavours. Portions were generous and the food was served hot. There is also a quite comprehensive drinks selection if a little pricey. I have no reservations regarding recommendation.

Very poor service. Waiting 2 hrs from ordering for main meal. Every time we ask the answer is the same. It's coming now! It never comes. The actual meal was nice, service needs work

Booked at 5:30 ordered our food at 6 and was still waiting at 7:30 so left without the food, we asked how much longer at 6:30 and told 5 more minutes. takeaways being handed out the entire time so clearly prioritising them and the manager didn’t care at all.

Terrible service don't bother!!! I booked a table 4 weeks ago for 10 for a sixtieth birthday, on arrival at 5.30 as they opened they put the tables together, we then waited two hours after ordering and still no food, take aways took priority as far as we could see. The place was busy but people who arrived after us were getting served. We asked and was told 5 minutes. 20 mins later asked again, still told 5 mins more, well after 2 hours plus we left.

There were nine of us we booked a table for five thirty. Ordered food at about six pm. Had two drinks each and we still hadn't had our starter by seven thirty. So we just left the worst about it was we had a small child with us. He was really hungry. When we asked how long is the wait we were told shouldn't be long now. Three times we were told that. Pre booked a table for 10 people, arrived at 5:20pm so we was the second poeple to arrive in the whole place. Take aways bags are being picked up constantly the whole 2hrs we was there, yet we was still waiting for our food. Asked at 6:45pm how long it would be and was told "5 minutes". We all agreed to leave without eating as it was now 7:20pm and still no food was served. Paid for our drinks and cancelled the food order. The restaurant is severely under staffed, the manager or owner needs to manage staffing better. 3 waiters for the whole place, plates and empty glasses are not removed from tables for over 1hr, if at all. The boss behing the counter is rude and doesn't care at all, he's making his money from the takeaway and clearly prioritises takeout orders, and that's clearly all that matters to him.

Unusual to get locked in a toilet and spend 20 minutes getting out with the help of staff and customers. If it wasn’t almost a comedy sketch it was even more outrageous when the Manager said ‘it’s not my fault’ rather than …..I apologise. But that I guess would be considered old fashioned customer service! Shocking

Excellent quality takeaway in late August during a busy evening. Didn't mind waiting a, bit longer. Sauces all included. Will definitely go back. List 1 star 🌟 for the wait but didn't affect good quality. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend.

The food was fine and we went on a busy night, but booked a table for 7.30pm and we weren't seated till 8.30pm. Drinks arrived at 9pm. The starters arrived at the same time. Cost a lot of extra baby sitting pennies! No apology at any point and the bill was illegible so we had no idea how much anything was.

Positive experience. 100% pre-book if going on a Saturday night. The family naan bread is huge and worth getting if 3 or more are eating. The service was very good. Almost a little quick if honest. The atmosphere was lively and quite loud at times with big parties etc. Lost a star as no one came to check if the food was ok after service and the bill was brought to us without asking so felt a little rushed to leave. I would recommend here.

Did a waiter seriously just come to my table chewing a mouthful of food to the extent I can even hear it(?!). Learn the basics of hospitality. That is not appetising, it is disgusting and I am contemplating just leaving to eat elsewhere.

We’ve just had the most bizarre restaurant experience, waiters constantly watching over you and as soon as your fork hits the plate they are straight over to whip your plate away. Tried taking my glass with wine in it, interrupted conversations to empty the table… Food was okay but very little meat in either curry For desert the waiter tried to charge us more than the bill stated Probably won’t be going back here

Although the food was lovely, it took 2 hours for our main to arrive. Our drink order was wrong and we had to ask for cutlery. Too many tables and not enough staff. Would not go back.

Quite simply one of the best curries we have ever eaten. Despite the kitchen closing as we placed our orders, the staff were so attentive with my dietary requirements (no dairy) and served a delicious dairy free alternative. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Very nice friendly staff who were eager to help. It was a very busy August Bank as you can imagine but we were promptly shown to our table drinks and papadoom order were taken and served straight, however it did take us (2 adults and 4 children) to make our minds on what to order as there so much to choose from and they all seemed nice. We settled for onion bhaji, lamb chops, king prawn starter and Murgh tikka for starters and the kids demolished the lamb chops and King prawn like they hadn't eaten for a few days 🙈 onion bhaji were really nice as rather than give 2 big bhaji they gave 4 small one which were nice and crispy (we didn't take pictures of starters are like I said they were demolished within seconds) for main we chose lamb handi (lamb chops curry) stir fry chicken (bit like a jalfrezi) lamb tika biryani, prawn bhuna and chicken tika shashlick, mushroom rice, chips and of course their famous huge family naan. For drink we ordered 2 pints of coke, 2 pints lemonade and 2 appletizers and to be honest the lemonade and coke were flat but when we ordered it again later on(they seemed busy so didnt mentioned it to them) they were ok. We loved it so much that we took the left overs home with us. To end the night they gave us very hot hot towels and signature mint chocolate.
