Barton Rouge in Liverpool

The restaurant has a pleasant ambiance. The service is decent, and the quality of the food is satisfactory, offering an overall average dining experience.

We came on Easter Sunday and the restaurant was half full. Decor is nice and bright. My meal, Shashlik Karahi Chicken, came lukewarm. I didn't ask anyone else at the my table about their food, but nobody commented or complimented on the food. When we finished the food the table was never cleared of the dishes, even when we asked for the bill they just brought the bill without cleaning the table, however, didn't forget to add £20 tips.

Ordered a curry that specified certain vegetables. A curry arrived with completely different vegetables. Didn't mind as was pleasant enough, but when we mentioned it to the waiter he gaslighted us by telling us that's the curry we ordered, even though the vegetables were completely different from what the menu stated. Literally lied to our faces saying these are the vegetables on the menu. Wouldn't give us the menu again though to point out he was wrong. Incredible behaviour.

Had read the reviews before booking, so was very disappointed there was no atmosphere, it was very quiet and expensive, bill was over £100 for 2 of us and we onky had one drink. Will not be going again.

The ambience is great, and the food quantity was also good. We ordered biriyani but it was a little bit overlooked for my liking. They have great service and the budget is a little over but ok.

Fine establishment with wonderful food and staff

We made a reservation for tonight, unfortunately upon arrival we saw it was closed. Double checked on the website which clearly says open every day, so very annoyed.

Food so nice , lovely staff and great service. Only thing myself and friends would ask is to have cheese on the cheese garlic nan. As was very little on the nan. Everything else was amazing tasty.

Worst management and food! Staffs very rude. Served appetisers and then we waited for an hour for the mains to come. When asked said “2mins” every time. Food was very odd tasting. Nothing close to regular Indian food. They said they make food as per British taste and we should have mentioned to them we want authentic Indian tasting food. One staff just dropped gravy on my friend accidentally and just left. Without even offering her tissue or anything to clean up. Had a disturbing evening! Never going back.

We went there at 9.45 pm. Orders were taken an 10. We got our food at 11.30!!!! We had to ask 3 times for food. We had 2 kids with us. Despite that, the food was terrible. I am so sorry to use this adjective on food but it was worse than terrible. It had spices not blended in, everything was just not eatable. None of us could finish our food. In a long while we did not have anything this bad. When we told them about the food they did not seem to care. And the behaviour was so unprofessional. As if our views did not matter. Very unprofessional. Would never recommend them. Food expensive for quantity size and taste (i cannot forget how terrible it was)

Large group of us were accommodated at the last minute by friendly staff. Naan bread was really tasty, but I thought my main was a bit bland. The majority of the group really enjoyed their meals though so gave 4* instead of 3*.

Visited for the first time with a group of friends. We often go to the Barton Rouge, Chester, so this was an opportunity to compare the two restaurants.. Its a large restaurant with welcoming, friendly and helpful staff. We all enjoyed our selection from the wide menu and the pricing was reasonable. The curries etc. were slightly different to Chester, some different spices and flavours, all most enjoyable. They dont do the massive 'elephant ear' style nan breads like Chester, but the smaller ones were OK. We all enjoyed our fist experience at Barton Rouge Liverpool, and will probably visit again...

First time I've been to this restaurant and it was well worth the visit. Lovely food in pleasant surroundings, I'll definitely be back.

Delay food. Doesn’t taste good. Worst customer management. We ordered our food and after an hour waiting we only got our appetizer. While the table coming after us all get to eat. We decided to leave but the waiter insist that we pay all the food we ordered and wait for them to pack it (take ages). The waiter is rude. When we complain about how we didn’t get the food while the other all got it, he said it’s because “it’s Saturday night” and we ordered too much! (Which doesn’t make sense at all) After we’ve tried the food, it doesn’t taste as good as the reviews said. Chicken tikka is so sweet it feels like eating some dessert! Even a menu like chicken nugget is below standard. Wouldn’t recommend. Won’t come again, ever.

Starters arrived..kebab and samosas..beautiful...nice and hot..mains arrived..one dish hot the other had to be sent back as only just warm..and item missing (egg)...when it came back..the egg was cold and the dish was still only warm...ruined my meal and left very disappointed 😞

Our group of eight visited last night ,we all were delighted with the meals. The staff were excellent, attentive, and charming. We would definitely recommend a visit and like us booking a return very soon.

It was a very cold restaurant, we waited for about an hour before our dinner was served and the food was disappointing in terms of our expectations.

Fantastic Indian food and friendly staff. We were staying close by so we ordered takeaway. The staff were very helpful and when the food wasn’t quite ready when they said it would be, they threw in a bit extra. Really delicious and memorable food.

Barton Rouge is the best Indian Restaurant in Liverpool. The prices are great in comparison with the quantity, absolutely love their service.

So great to be back in this fab restaurant after being closed for the last 5 months. Absolutely delicious starters best tandoori lamb chops and chicken chat. Mains of Lamb pepper fry was as tasty as ever and the lamb was so tender you could have cut it with a spoon. Hubby had Tandoori butter chicken we shared a rice and peshawri naan all washed down with a great bottle of Sauvignon blanc. There were no delays with the food and the service as always was very attentive. Good COVID measures in place with staff all wearing masks correctly and great space between tables with customers eating at the same time to us. We have never had a bad meal or service here and we will be back soon.

Due to past reviews we were really looking forward to eating here. Starters were fine and quick to be served. My husband and I both ordered Madras. Mine a king prawn and his was chicken. I know many currys are tomatoe based but our dishes were more suited to an Italian restaurant. Edible but not Madras dishes. I highlighted this to our waiter in a polite way, who shrugged his shoulders and said 'I wrote down Madras what more can I do?'. Well what more can I say!

Food absolutely disgusting! I would have must rather bought my curry from Aldi. This place can't even do the basics for an Indian restaurant, for example they can't make fresh naan bread and think its ok to serve warmed-up naan bread out of a packet. Do not waste your money or time in this place. Crap food, absolute CRAP!

Last night was like amateur hour in this place. Took one hour to take the order. My starter never arrived when everyone else’s did. After 15 minutes I asked where it was and it was brought out stone cold so I sent it back. Main took another hour to arrive, which was also cold but I didn’t care as I was starving so I had it anyway. Some of the breads never arrived even though we asked for them again. Everyone around us was having the same problems with service, cold food and missing items. Complained to the manager who did knock a small amount off the bill. A fair price would have been about 1/3 of the bill. I never usually bother leaving reviews but thought I’d make an exception after last nights fiasco. Food was ok, service was terrible, wouldn’t recommend. Better places to spend your money.

Never ever have I witnessed anything like this before in a restaurant outside of kitchen nightmares.Poor service staff running like headless chicken. Taking nearly 2 hours to bring out starters and over 2 hours to bring out mains of which one was burnt and the other cold. Felt bad for the poor service staff. There was no manager seen. A couple waited over 1 and a half hours next to us and left as the lady was heavily pregnant. Think some staggering of table booking and more leadership would have made this less painful. Will not visit again.

Estuve trabajando en el área por segunda semana, y probé este lugar por segunda vez, y puedo confirmar un establecimiento definitivo de 5 estrellas. Una vez más, Zak estuvo en el servicio de mesa y entregó los productos. .Si estás en la zona merece la pena una visita. No te decepcionará.

Really good food, nice atmosphere and friendly staff

Came here Saturday evening, the lamb chops were amazing & my other half loved the curry he ordered, staff were lovely , this is without doubt the best Indian restaurant in Liverpool.

Never visited Liverpool until today and decided to eat at Barton Rouge. Now I've eaten many good curries in my time but the meal I had earlier was the finest I've ever enjoyed. The depth of flavour and service was excellent. Next time I visit this wonderful city I'll be making my way here. 10 out of 10. Thanks to all who work there. You really do care...

We visited as a couple having high expectations of Indian restaurants with our local at home being excellent. Barton rouge did not disappoint. Some different curries on the menu that were tasty with no grease and the best Nan bread I have ever had.

Reservé una mesa para 6 personas un martes por la noche a las 7:30 pm.Llegamos a las 7:25 y nos sentamos enseguida - los menús ya estaban en la mesa (que estaba preparada para 10 personas, extraño pero lo que sea).Mirando el menú y charlando entre nosotros, casi no nos dimos cuenta de cuánto tiempo habíamos esperado para pedir una bebida o cualquier cosa para comer, pero cuando miré la hora eran las 7:55 y nadie se había acercado a nuestra mesa. Fueron necesarios diez minutos más para llamar la atención de un camarero. Finalmente, un hombre se acercó y preguntó si estábamos listos para pedir bebidas; dijimos que estábamos listos para pedir todo, en ese momento se escapó y tuvimos que esperar 5 minutos más para que viniera alguien más.Las bebidas finalmente llegan de 10 a 15 minutos después de haberlas pedido. La mayoría de nosotros pedimos una pinta de cobra. La cabeza de la cerveza debe haber sido aproximadamente una cuarta parte del vaso, antes de que las bebidas se hubieran dejado en la barra durante mucho tiempo, así que cuando llegaron solo estaban llenas las tres cuartas partes. Se olvidó una botella grande de agua que habíamos pedido, pero se estrelló contra la mesa una vez que se lo recordó (sin vasos).Los entrantes se sirvieron sospechosamente rápido dado el tiempo que habíamos esperado para ordenar. Me acerqué al gerente para informarle sobre los errores; se ofreció a quitar el plato que faltaba pero discutió conmigo sobre el descuento de EOTHO, diciendo que solo habíamos pedido 4 platos principales (habíamos pedido 5, así como 4/5 guarniciones) . Como trabajador de un restaurante, soy muy consciente de que no es necesario que pidas un plato principal para calificar para el descuento, ¡solo estaba tratando de sacarme! Hemos usado EOTHO en una cafetería solo para tomar un par de tragos, por lo que toda la idea del plato principal es totalmente falsa, además de que el gobierno reembolsa el descuento para que no salga del bolsillo del restaurante. ¿Por qué discutir? ! ? ! ?En este punto estaba muy agitado. El gerente finalmente me quitó el descuento merecido y me dio la excusa de que el clima es malo y el personal no podía viajar desde Manchester para explicar por qué el servicio era lento.¡Nunca más!

The worst meal I've ever had in Liverpool If I could give this 0/5 I would. I booked this meal for 3 via OpenTable. Due to traffic, it was clear we were going to be late, so I tried to call the restaurant we were on our way, but no one answered. A friend arrived separately 10 minutes after the table was booked, she was shown to our table, where another man was sitting. My friend stated that this man was not part of the booking, and this man openly told staff that he had booked for 2, but they had brought an extra person along (why would you even do that). She was ushered into the waiting area, which had a bar, but no staff taking drinks orders. We arrived a couple of minutes later, whereby in the space of 10 minutes, approximately 10 other people arrived into the small waiting area, none of whom were wearing masks. 20 minutes after our table time, I went down to speak to the manager to ask why our table had been given to someone who wasn't on our booking. I was met with an extremely rude response that they give away tables if no one turns up after five minutes (understandable); when I told him we had callled to say we were on our way but no one answered, he said "we don't answer the phone when it's busy), and that it was our fault. We were called down to our table 32 minutes after the appointment time, still without a drink. It took 32 minutes after our arrival before anyone came to take our drinks order. When we tried to order the food at the same time, we were told we could only order poppadoms. We tried to order the starter too, which the waiter tried to discourage us from doing. An hour after we arrived, a waiter came over bringing a bottle of wine, instead of the two glasses that were ordered. He left again and we had to wait another 10 minutes before the drinks arrived, without the water we had asked for the table. The lemonade and coke were flat. The poppadoms arrived 40mins after we arrived, which clearly were not fresh, and the raita appeared to have been watered down. The starter came, eventually with our water, which I had to ask for again. We were then allowed to order the rest of our meal, 50 minutes after we arrived By this point, the restaurant had become less busy, and we were so fed up, we were about to leave. We had been in the restaurant for 1hr 45 mins before a waiter came to check that we had ordered our food. Five minutes later, another waiter approached us to confirm what food we had ordered as there had been a mix up in the kitchen. Our mains arrived, the waiter made a cursory apology that he was 'sorry for our wait' with no sincerity, slammed the food down on the table, and left. There were chips to 3 of the plates served. I ordered a main course chef recommendation for £13.50 which came in a small tin which I would have classified as a starter. I would describe the food as distinctly average at best; we probably would have eaten anything at this point. Clearly the manger had sensed the dissent from not only s, but several other areas in the restaurant, and began a tour of apologies. I explained that we appreciated the restaurant was busy because of Eat Out To Help Out, but their service was appalling given that we had to wait an hour for our drinks and the situation with the food. He offered to give us a free drink, but we declined as it was late and we were working the next day. Instead of using initiative to apologise by taking the drinks off the bill, he laughed nervously and said he would remember our faces for the next visit. We left the restaurant 2 and a half hours later. The customer service was absolutely terrible, with apologies only to mitigate almost certainly bad reviews. If i had to visit this establishment again, it would be too soon.

Se hizo muy concurrido a medida que avanzaba la noche, sin embargo, la comida y el nivel del servicio se vieron afectados. Went for a birthday meal with my friends. The food was really nice and tasted authentic. Great customer service and would definitely recommend. I had the Chicken Jalfrezzi and a really nice Mango Lassi.

Loved it here. They’ve got everything right in terms of being Covid-Secure. Friendly and attentive staff. The food was unreal, recommend the King Prawn Saag, was spot on. Would 100% come back!!!!

Stumbled across this place by accident as it is tucked away a little from castle Street where most of the other nice establishments are.. I'll tell you what though if this place was on castle street it would put some of the other places to shame. Decor was amazing, food was amazing - proper south asian/Indian food, none of this street food gimmick that seems to be going round! The staff were lovely and everything was reasonably priced. Will definitely be going again next time we're in the city. Liverpool best kept secret!

In Liverpool for my wife's birthday. Had been to Barton Rouge in Chester last year which was excellent, so gave this restaurant a try and did not disappoint. Great service and great food.. we will back there on our next visit to Liverpool..

Curry was not to my liking and was cold

Today I have been in Liverpool. This restaurant was quite close so called in. Was quite busy for a Tuesday night. Really friendly and organised staff. Gorgeous crispy poppadoms followed by a spicy lamb dish. The lamb was gorgeous and the curry was really deep and tasty. I had a chapati that was probably the best chapati I have ever tasted.Thanks guys.

Absolutely delicious food, extensive menu, great service and not too expensive. An absolute must.

Had a gorgeous feast for Valentine's Day dinner yesterday at Barton Rouge @barton_rouge on Exchange Street East in Liverpool. The staff were very helpful in terms of food allergens, and were able to answer any of my questions about menu items 👍 10/10 I ordered their Chicken Tikka Shashlik which came on a sizzling bed of onions and peppers, and tasted divine 😁 I also opted for their Chana Dal, a side salad and a raita, all of which were gorgeous and definitely worth trying (they arrived shortly after taking this photo). I would highly recommend Barton Rouge to anyone looking for a delicious Indian meal, in the heart of Liverpool 🇮🇳

Really disappointed. Chicken madras tasted like tomato soup. Had to send my partners chicken saag back as was cold and under cooked. Well over priced for an indian meal especially when the quality wasn't that good.

Went to eat twice there lastweek lovely lamb dishes never disappoints. Only a slight moan doesn't have a great dessert meu.....

went to Barton Rouge with family and as we walked in, we was welcome and gretting very politely and been taken to our reserved table service for drinks and popadoms was spot on a while later mains taken and we didnt wait for long surprisingly it was busy but hot and fast service! enjoyed everything and defo will be back!! Super SUPER impressed. We love our Indian food and this was easily up there with the best we’ve ever had. Food was delicious, so flavoursome and there wasn’t a layer of ghee on the top of every dish. I had lamb shank and it was incredible. If I could give this restaurant 6 stars I would all day long.

Food was ok. My son didn't like his tika masala “ way to sweet” My main issue is their staff. They reminded of airport lounge staff, no warmth, no friendliness, mechanical service and a......i don't really care if you come back manor.

This Indian restaurant located in exchange street has two communicating levels( basement-ground floor) It has a nice interior; it took a while before we were served. Once served another disappointment , my Himalayan dish was not warm served and probably forgot to add the spices, not spicy at all!! Despite all this it was very tasty,...

Food was just ok. My son didnt like his masala saying to sweet. The restaurant is aesthetically beautiful which i complemented the man of this on my arrival who looked like the manager behind the till which i received a grunt from him of some sort...Overall the staff remind me of airport lounge staff in a remote airport, Cold, unfriendly ,non engaging mechanical service. Example, My son asked waiter “what kinda rice do you serve please. Waiter says nothing, and points to menu. Same when i asked what non alcoholic drinks do you serve please( as my son is in 13) Waiter sighs.... And points to another menu... I think you get my drift...
