Cracking takeaway order, just in time for the England v Serbia game. Tasted great and 25% of all takeaway orders. The mint chilli dip is fantastic.

Great food and service . Maybe well looked after due to it being a large business meal . The green sauce on the pickle tray was the best I have ever had (unfortunately they don't sell by the bottle 🤣)

Excellent and reliable source of excellent curry. Their vindaloo is as hot as you want it. Excellent food overall, and great service.

We have frequented this so-called hidden gem for many a year. Although the curry was excellent as always, having accepted our booking for 10 pm, we were told that we would have to be served both our starter and main meal together. Nothing was disclosed when we booked, or when they took our drinks order, it was simply get on with eating your food so that we can close. Will not be returning, and neither will we be recommending this culinary insult, plenty of other alternatives!

This is some of the very best Bangladeshi food I have ever eaten in my life. Superbly prepared, quick and friendly service. We had a really terrific evening. Thank you!

Worst place ever! This was the only place I went out for pre Christmas meal and it gave my partner and I Corona virus. We were the first customers that day, so we ordered before anyone else. As the time passed, many people came in WITH NO MASKS, even most of the waitors were going around with no masks. It was a mental situation, the whole place packed, parents with no masks chasing kids in the restaurant, kids coming to our table to play, ABSOLUTE MADNESS!!! 6 days later, our first symptoms of Corona appeared!!! Friendly advice, please do not visit this filthy place, I am sure since they do not follow any hygiene rule for the pandemic, the same applies to their kitchen.

First time at BR. Really nice place,friendly staff , and the food was really great .Unlike some Indian restaurants ( meat thrown into a ready prepared sauce) the food tasted freshly cooked with just the right amount of spice. We all had keema rice and all agreed the best we ever had . Can't wait to return

Really good food. We had a couple of courses with drinks and didn't find it too expensive. The food was very tasty. Only real problem was the food came out very quickly particularly between courses.

Abajo durante 4 días desde Glasgow reservado en Barton Rouge para una comida, la mejor comida india que he tenido en mucho tiempo, comida excelente y porciones grandes, servida por Zak y el servicio fue excelente, aquí durante 4 días definitivamente estará volver antes de irnos.

Set in a great spot beside the canal, and next to a lovely pub. The place itself exudes quality, and the food/service didn't dissapointed. Zak, and Ruba were excellent hosts. Highly recommended.....

On entering the restaurant you felt safe due to coronavirus. Very clean, great atmosphere. Staff very friendly, food first class. Will definitely return when visiting Chester

Al pedido de comida le faltaba una comida principal, sin embargo, el camarero pronto lo rectificó. La experiencia de la cena fue desafortunadamente todavía apresurada y nuestro camarero parecía tan ocupado que no tuvo tiempo para sonreír o quizás ofrecer una pequeña charla. La comida estaba bien, pero de nuevo no justificaba el precio. Se le preguntó acerca de la "oferta de comer fuera para ayudar", pero me dijeron que no aplicaron y que solo lo hicieron los reacios de Liverpool. Bill tenía 165 años con bebidas sin entrantes ni postres aparte de 2 platos de queso para llevar. Reastuarant y los baños estaban limpios. El servicio no alcanzó el precio. 6/10

Estoy en Chester una vez a la semana por motivos de trabajo y ahora voy a la India. Buena comida ya un precio razonable. El servicio normalmente es excelente, aunque de vez en cuando intentarán apresurarte un poco trayendo los platos principales antes de que hayas terminado tus entrantes. No me molesta, pero puede molestar a algunos.

Muy decepcionado, ya que tenía muchas ganas de hacer nuestra reserva a las 7 pm el 25 de julio como 4 (2 parejas), pero estaba claro que el restaurante había overbooking en las mesas, ya que había una cola saliendo por la puerta. Luego nos llevaron a todos a la parte trasera del restaurante, para sentarnos allí (cerca de los baños).¿Qué sentido tenía que reserváramos la mesa, si el restaurante solo iba a dejar que la gente entrara, en lugar de mantener las mesas reservadas para las reservas? En mi opinión, esto es anteponer la codicia y las ganancias a un buen servicio. Todos a favor de nuestro grupo, y algunas otras personas se fueron después de que nos dijeron que estaríamos sentados cerca de los baños debido al hacinamiento, básicamente como una ocurrencia tardía.Terminamos consiguiendo una mesa reservada en el último minuto sobre la carretera en la Puerta de la India. . . que estaba delicioso, con un servicio fantástico! Huge disappointment this evening. Our first meal out since the corona pandemic. What was sad is that the restaurant could have handled corona precaution properly but chose to hit capacity (cramming people in like cattle) and applied a slap dash / non approach to social distancing and general customer service. We had booked for 8pm, 30 minute wait to be seated while walk ins were seated. Ignored by our waiter for 20 mins until and offer of a drink was given, where we asked to order food at the same time as we had been waiting a long time. Laughed at for that request, without apology for the delay or any kind of politeness. We chose to leave without ordering having been weekly customers for the last five years.No paper in the toilets and urine all over the floor. Token bottle of hand sanitizer at the front door. Management please feel free to contact me if you have an issue with this review but tonight your restaurant was an absolute shambles. You should not be playing lip service to mandatory precaution nor treating customers this poorly.

We decided to walk down the canal and passed Barton Rouge the smell coming from inside was amazing.Decide after a drink to see if there was availability we we were met by really friendly staff and shown to a nice table, the place is well spread out loads of room inside and in the present climate we felt safe, enough of the that now the food.It was excellent we both said it was probably the best Indian food we have had and there was lots of it I was devastated that I couldnt eat all of it and that we live near Newcastle so it will be a while before we are back.Thank you for a great meal

We have been coming here for years, the best curry in Chester by a country mile. So so tasty, and lots of choice. The Chicken Rizella is my personal fave!

We've been going to Barton Rouge for many years and stuck with them through the food-hygiene scandal and dodgy reviews. Recently, the staff have looked less and less happy. Tonight's food was some of the best ever, but the atmosphere just made us want to get out. The doorman looked like he would prefer to kill us rather than let us in. Although restaurant was nearly empty, food was very slow arriving - which wouldn't normally be a problem as we prefer to chat and eat at leisure. However, we had not a single smile from any of the staff. They all looked like they had been made redundant and were working their last, compulsory shift. If that's the case, we're sorry for them, but there are plenty of welcoming eateries around Chester. We won't be rushing back.

I feel the Barton Rouge has lost it's way. Went on Friday and must say the food , service , beer was at best average. Ordered the mix grill and it average , quality of meat not great , almost as if it had been cooked and reheated. Service by waiter seemed that he could not care less about us as a group of 6. beer was decidedly flat. It used to offer a good atmosphere but to me it's just not that interested in providing quality food and service. Shame , back to the Gate of India or Brook Street.

The Food was awful, I asked for mild and it was really hot.,When staff came round and asked how was the food. I told them, I Couldn’t eat it because it was too hot. They didn’t offer to replace it. I paid full price for food I couldn’t eat

A couple of nights away in Chester.....first night fancied an Indian. This place was highly recommended by several people....we were not disappointed! We would highly recommend - friendly service, great atmosphere and the food was delicious.

This is my second visit here with my wife and same as before it was faultless superb food and great staff will certainly be returning on our next visit to Chester I didn’t take a pic of the main meal I got stuck in straight away but did grab a snap of my starter

Great service, excellent food. My Lamb Hyndustani was delicious and my husband said his Ginger Chicken was as good as he'd ever had.

These guys really know what they're doing and you can see them all working hard to achieve it. From the moment you are greeted at the door by a man in authentic dress the service is great. Even better is the food, such great flavours and we both agreed it was one of the best curries we have had in years...and we eat a lot of curry! Keep up the good work!!

Just called in here on the spur of the moment wandering down the canal side in Chester. Greeted by tall Asian gent in traditional costume; quickly seated and served a superb meal with first rate service!

Booked a table for NYE and it’s a good job as it was full with people waiting for tables. Could not fault the food or the service at all. Nothing was too much trouble and all the staff were polite and did everything as quickly as possible. Probably the best Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to. Mine and my partners dishes were both extremely tasty and there were good portion sizes too. Absolutely no complaints and wish this was closer to where I live as i would be there all of the time! 10/10!

Visited this lovely restaurant with my wife yesterday and what a pleasure it was. Very friendly service and polite staff, was greeted at the door by a member of staff who was nicely dressed in traditional outfit. The Starter was tasty and the mains were delicious and the owner sent me a free pint over and a slice of cake with a candle for the wife as it was her birthday. What a lovely gesture!

Staff are very unhelpful and rude food is ok, out of 15 meals 1 was left off and took an hr to appear, when everyone else had finished their meals. No apologies or discount from the staff. Nice surroundings but terrible service.

We walked along the canal path to the rear of Mill hotel & spa intending to eat at the Thai & Japanese above Harkers pub. Sadly they were rammed full, probably due to the Chester Racecourse day.

Ate at 10pm on a Friday evening. The restaurant was pretty quiet and were encouraged to order within 10 minutes as the kitchen would be closing soon. Reasonable enough.

I have to echo many of the reviews below. The food is great, a few nice unique touches (e.g. family naans). Great location and the restaurant is decorated v. well throughout. However... the service just does not come close. Waiters seemed disinterested and were keen to rush you. It felt as though the rather expensive drinks were being pushed on you, as we were asked a number of times if we wanted more beers. But worst of all, when our mains came it was quite clear that the waiter was unsure of what the dishes actually were. Once we then plated out, it became very clear to us that the vindaloo had been given to the wrong person. For anyone that has attempted their vindaloo before, this is quite an important mistake to make!

We had dinner recently and found the curries to be excellent, especially the chilli chicken. They make very large naan breads which are hung on a hook at the table and taste amazing.

Este restaurante debe ser excelente comida, buena ubicación, buena, pero nuestro camarero no podía dar una presa, así que no quería estar allí, la otra dama fue muy educada pero realmente no lo compensó, era una comida de cumpleaños, así que aunque la comida era buena no volvería

Whenever I travel to England I like to go to dinner at a Hindu restaurant, a colleague told me about a nice one next to the river Dee canal ride, we went there and the walk deserved it crossing the center of Chester and bordering the canal watching its terraces and boats, the restaurant is quite big with large tables where you can enjoy with your colleagues, we were seated 10 very comfortably, the food is really delicious with dishes that I had never tasted like those in the Himalayan area and not found in other Indian restaurants, the attention of the staff was fantastic there are quite a few waiters who are always waiting for the requests you need, the evening was lovely because they don't push us out after dinner and you can continue talking to your tablemates for as long as you want

Been a few times food fine. last time had a pint knocked over me by a waiter and then my main course came as a side dish. Main waiters didn;t care so I told main guy this when another waiter walked past and called me 'Benchod' Hindi for Mother-f.

We visited early in the evening on Tuesday 24 September 2019. The reception we (4 adults and 1 child) from the male on duty was less than welcoming. We were seated and eventually asked for our drinks order. It did arrive after a while. Another while and we were given the opportunity to place our food order which took some time to reach us considering there were very few diners so early in the evening. The delivery of the food was slapdash bordering on rude and the male waiters (if that's what all those chatting men in uniform at the bar were) were to a person disinterested in providing a welcoming and friendly service. On the up side there were two young serving ladies who knew how to smile and engaged in a little conversation. The only saving grace that evening.

I ordered a Biryani, well what turned was not like any Biryani Ive ever had before. I asked waiter from what part of India it came from, reply "don't know I am from Bangladeshi" I know what a Biryani should be as I have been married to a Calcutta girl for 30 years and live full time in India since retiring. Also it was hunt the meat not much of it, meat came sepererate from rice not together cooked in pot as should be. No potato or boild egg just omlett on top never seen that one before.

My second visit here went with a mate on a Saturday night it was busy but not packed out we waited about 10 minutes for a table I ordered Butterfly King Prawns as a starter and Chilli Chicken as a main I have to say the Chicken was as hot as it gets took an extra pint of cobra to calm thing down all in all good food reasonable service and not too bad on the pocket

I have eaten here twice, once with friends and then with my family. The first time I was impressed and thought that the food and service were quite good, especially on a Saturday night. But when I returned with my family, it wasn't as good, with my wife noticing how there was food encrusted on the menus. They have since appeared in the local paper having been successfully prosecuted for food hygiene infringements so I would make sure that you check their current rating before visiting.

We booked this from reading other peoples comments and so glad we did. Everything from the food, drink and staff were faultless.my husband had lamb Saag which he loved, I had prawn Rogan Josh and wow it was so tasty. The garlic & cheese nan was gorgeous too, the staff were all so polite and when we got the bill at the end we were very pleasantly surprised, very good value for money. We shall be back thanks to you all.

Been on last Friday with my wife, little daughter & some family friends, can’t enjoy our time as one waitress keep disturbing us by trying to play with my daughter. It’s really awful when she was touching my 4 years old daughter without our concern keep touching & pulling my daughter over again. My wife been completely upset of that how come that girl keep touching my daughter without wash hands just after serving food & alcohol it’s not hygiene, that ruin our evening but there were some look alike supervisor or manager they had no attention that we getting disturbed by the waitress.

Come here once a month and cant deny the food is always good, One of the best in chester. However it is a bit pricey and the last 3 times i have neen with my wife as been a very poor service. 1st time was rushed with the staff constantly asking if we where ready to order or wanted more drinks, i woukd prefer to make eye contact and call them over when im ready. The 2nd time was also rushed with little manners, smiles or conversation. ( this is the only time i have never left a tip ) 3rd time chicken shashlik was a different dish from the last visit and the staff looked at my wife blank when she said she suffered from a glutten intolerance. No smiles through out the service and even our guests commented on the poor service even though we had spoken highly of this place previously. Needs to step up considerably to warrent the price. Didnt get the feel or service of a local indian reastuarant.4/10

Outstanding food, well presented dishes and excellent service.

So many mixed opinions but in the end thought I'd treat myself and my Partner. In a way, I'm glad it was shut! Probably saved ourselves from goodness knows what? Apparently some very major health issues forced the compulsory closure!

The starter was tasteless and badly prepared. I ordered Cobra and it tasted like a much cheaper beer. I didnt wait for the main course. I paid up and left.

We arrived with a group of 10 friends to be seated in very nice surroundings. The staff very polite and helpful with our orders. I had a Himalayan dish which was amazing. The sides, breads etc very all delicious too. Would recommend.

Went for a family meal there last week and it was fantastic. Family naan is great too but our eyes were bigger than our three bellies!! Enjoy

Lovely setting along the canal with a wide and varied menu, with lots of unique dishes and twists on standard fare which was truly inspiring.

After waking past this place every day for over a week and smelling the delicious smells we finally tried it out. The restaurant is huge. Decor is nice. There’s no outside seating along the canal however, and that would’ve been fun. There was a decent selection of vegan options so both my husband and I easily found something to please us. The food was good, not spectacular, and it was pretty oily, but Indian food typically is. Portions were fair because we couldn’t finish all our food. Prices were moderate.

The food was absolutely first class and there was plenty of it. It's certainly five star food.

I am a curry lover and have tried and tested many curry houses all over the country. I can’t speak to the service as I got take out but do yourself a favor and order the chicken tikka rogan Josh. Simple amazing.

My husband and I had just arrived in Chester and found this restaurant online. We were seated and served very quickly. Our drinks and food arrived promptly as well. This was one of the best Indian meals we have had, the food fresh and tasty. Found the service very good, overall a gem of a restaurant!

Arrived just before closing time, but managed to get served. The guy on the door looked bored and was slouched playing on his phone when we arrived. Waiter kept forgetting our order and came back two or three times to double check, but when the food came out it was delicious.

Visited here on the evening of 25th May 2109, service was first class, food was exceptional, tasty and hot, drinks were perfect and reasonably priced, while other restaurant's in the city offer the same you will pay more, will be returning soon as me and my wife loved the atmosphere, food and staff.....

We booked a table for five here for evening meal a week in advance for 7.30 pm last night (Sat) Quite disappointed except for the curry which was excellent. We were given a poor table at the back of the building (no windows or views). Service was very slow - 20 mins before order was taken and menus presented. Table service equally slow. Only improved somewhat after complaining. In the end we had to get our own drinks from the bar before the meal. None of the staff ever seemed to smile !! It was a Saturday and extremely noisy and busy. But if the restaurant knows Saturday is going to be really busy, then surely they should take on more staff to cope.

I enjoyed my meal here; it was everything I expected. The location overlooking the canal was good, as I got a window seat. The place was quiet (I eat early). The management were having a continuous (and occasionally heated) conversation near the main door, and at times it interfered with my enjoyment, but that's modern living.

Not sure where to go for a curry we googled to find a place close to where we were staying. On arrival we found it was situated on the canal, so if the weather was nice you can sit outside. We were greeted very warmly and shown to our table and immediately asked what we would like to drink. After a short while we were asked for our order and were not disappointed when it arrived. Meal was tasty and hot and very enjoyable, if we were to complain about anything it would be the nan bread, which was very thin and cut into triangles served in a basket, my husband did comment about the size of it as normally when we go out the nan it is the size of a dinner plate and you can taste the cheese...disappointed is an under statement. Despite this we enjoyed our curry, the staff were lovely and very pleasant. Would go again if ever in Chester, prices were comparable to where we live.

We went last night..from start to finish we were rushed .the food was lovely apart from nan breads tiny and no cheese like we odered.they start clearing away before you finish as if to say hurry up and leave

We were the first in the restaurant when it opened as we were going to the theatre. The food was as good as we’ve ever had, and the waiting on team very attentive and personable.

Amazing! Food was delicious, excellent service, lovely surroundings. Incredible (large) naan bread - cannot fault this restaurant.

My friend and I ate here tonight and whilst the food was good, I feel compelled to give some feedback in the service. The waiters constantly interrupted us throughout our meal in an attempt to get us to leave and I found this really off putting. We would be mid conversation and someone would very abruptly interrupt to ask us questions designed to move us along. We still had food/ drinks on the table when the waiter decided to give us our bill and at one point, a waiter just stood by the table looking at us, quite clearly wanting us to leave. I could understand it if the place had been busy and we had been there long, but we were literally in and out in an hour. I've never felt so uncomfortable and would have loved the opportunity to just relax and enjoy the meal and company of my friend.

Not been here in a while as the food had not been great but gave it a go last sunday, The food was very good, the service was good and we had a enjoiyable evening, I do recomend this place again!!

Ate here on a Saturday night after the theatre. When the mains came I ordered another drink. 30 minutes later mains eaten and no sign of drink. Took a while to catch someone’s attention. Eventually a waitress appeared and I asked for the bill. Rudely she said I need to take the plates away first. But shocked but I didn’t comment. My partner then told her that we ordered a drink and we didn’t get so could she check we hadn’t been charged for it. The waitress then started laughing! Laughing that much she had to put her hand over her mouth. I was absolutely outraged and when I asked her why she was laughing she laughed even more! She cleared the dishes went to the kitchen then sat at the back of the restaraunt with her back to us. After waiting 10 minutes I asked another waiter for the bill and also asked for the manager. I explained what had happened and that I had never experienced rude behaviour like this in any restaraunt. I got a half hearted apology and that he would deal with it. I have eaten here many times but will never again. Staff should be trained properly. I would not recommend this place to anybody. Disgusting service.

First off,this place was impeccably clean,the food was superb,lamb dish especially, group of four we had poppadoms, mains,rice and nan,not one of us thought it was average,but excellent, nice pint if cobra.if anything it was a little pricey, but the food and service was so good I can't wait to go back

A group of 5 of us headed here for dinner. All shared starters and all happy with the tasty dishes. Mains were also excellent and the naan breads are divine! Would highly recommend, reasonably priced for the quality of the food

Fantastic curry and good quick service. When we arrived there wasn't a table free so we were given a buzzer ad 10 minutes later we were seated. Had the Rezzala Lamb curry absolutely beautiful. Excellent service

One of Their signature dishes, shashlik was new to us and we loved it. The family size naan is a conversation piece and photo op. However, service was minimal. We were never asked if we wanted water, dishes were left on the table and we signed the bill among crumbs and used glasses. The waiter took photos of the group but half were over exposed and the other half in the dark. We took them ourselves.

Dined here during my recent stay in Chester. Chicken Rogan, plain rice, peshwari naan, poppadoms and chutney Tray. Excellent value for money. I was a lone diner but did not feel at all awkward and the staff were attentive, polite and helpful.

One of THE best Kormas i have ever had in my life. I have the Prawn Korma and my boyfriend the Chicken Korma and they were both amazing, alongside the nicest Family Size Garlic Naan! Definetely coming here again!

Was a terrible and ( disgusting) dinner tonight at Barton Rouge, we had one lamb & one chicken Nag £11.95 each with naan bread & boiled rice, two beers. We sent the lamb dinner back, it only had 3 pieces of meat the chicken was frozen small pieces cut small equal sizes, we paid £40 for disgusting curry, never again. We are a loyal customers but no more

We visited as a group of three couples before a club night in Chester. Booking was pain free online, and once there, the experience was all-round awesome. From the greeting to the departure, the service was spot on, and the food was exquisite. As a group we have very diverse tastes, but none of us left dissatisfied. The bill was very reasonable, and unusually for and establishment such as this, the drink prices were not too over inflated. Would recommend to anyone.

The food was good , and it all tasted very nice indeed , the only problem we had was that we waited to long for our food , and the waiters were not very pleasant , the waiter who served us was quite rude to be honest and it really should be different . customer service to me is very important and just a smile would have helped . i tried to chat to the staff and was suprised i had to ask 3 times for my candle to be lit on the table .this customer service needs to be addressed and more smiles and making customers feel wanted would go a long way . ...the food was lovely and served hot and everything was fresh but we sat with empty glasses for ages and had to attract the attention of the staff to bring our drinks after waiting for a long time . the waiter who brought the drinks was saying they didnt expect to be busy , i do understand that and was chatting to him until another waiter came over and just started to talk over us and never said excuse me or sorry he just took over ..i just feel more training towards customers is needed . the decor is lovely and the menu is good with lots of choices and a very good selection we all enjoyed our food and would love to return , but to spend hard earned money on staff that were miserable will make me think .if improvement is shown we really would be back because the location is great , and plenty car parking space and all i can say is please dont keep your customers waiting for so long , we waited 45 minuets after our starters which was to long .

Was recommended and it didn't fail. The restaurant was full and the service was very good the menu was varied and the food was excellent overall a great experience

We visited Barton Rouge on New Year’s Eve 2018. The food was good, however the service has much to be desired. During the entirety of our meal, it felt somewhat rushed. They rushed us in to our seats, brought the starters over before we had finished the poppadoms and as soon as we put our cutlery down, they removed the plates. This resulted in the evening feeling pressured. The night was topped off when they brought the bill over, as soon as they’d cleared our main dishes, without us requesting it, despite us having over half a bottle of wine left. They hadn’t even asked if we wanted anything else, any more drinks or dessert, which we would have most likely taken them up on. We left the bill untouched whilst finishing our drinks, but one of the staff members brought the card machine over to the table, thrusting it in our faces, again rushing and pressurising us. This resulted in an evening that was meant to be enjoyable turning sour, with us feeling like we were being encouraged and rushed to leave the restaurant before we were ready. Whilst the food was nice, the service clouded the visit, making it a poor experience overall.

Thought we would try here again as our first visit was Really good and again it did not disapoint Excellent Food with friendly and welcoming staff with reasonable prices
