This restaurant used to combine a charming, historic setting with a wide menu of hearty food (the cauliflower cheese was world class) but now the bill of fare is on a par with an average roadside café: Pasties, beans on toast, jacket potatoes etc. The staff are as friendly as before, but the magic has gone.

We had a private meeting in the fabulous old Council Chamber at the back of the cafe. It was the Old Guildhall and all the original features have been kept so a real hidden gem. Pasties are always great = Barnecutts so would be. Other food also great and good selection and they quickly rustled up 3 vegan salads too. But the staff made all the difference. They just could not do enough for us and everything went to plan which is just what you need when having a business meeting. Would highly recommend it. Friendly and efficient, great food, great value for money, great coffee, amazing historic setting. Really what's not to love.

Used to be a good breakfast.now the price has jumped up to £7.50 for the same breakfast....bacon was like shoe leather which was odd for 9am...I can only assume it was cooked the day before and reheated. It's the best place for pasties but the cafe isnt what it was... It's a shame as the other branch on the industrial estate seems to be getting better and leaving the town branch behind.

Through the bakery shop and up the steps into a part of Bodmin history with a fantastic snack meal to suit every palate. We ordered at the counter and our hot meal was brought to our table very quickly. The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly, a credit to the company. I had the double fried egg and bacon bap and a drink and it was all so fresh. I also shared some chips with my friends. The chips were the best ever, they would beat any chip shop chips for sure. The history of the building is incredible as it was the old guildhall. Up above the food hall/cafe door is a stained glass sign saying MUNICIPAL OFFICE (as far as I remember). Even the spotlessly clean loos must have been an office of some description at some stage. I URGE anyone visiting Bodmin TO call in here for a delicious meal and a look around the building and to meet the friendliest staff ever. On your way out go down the steps and buy some scummy cakes from the shop. Will be visiting again soon from Newton Abbot to explore more of Bodmin and to have another delightful meal here

Been her e many times. Usually try different foods but, the Pasties are incredible. If you visit Bodmin, you MUST try Warrens, the food there, especially the pasties, is trully great.

They've recently updated this restaurant in the middle of the town. Though I have only visited for tea and haven't eaten here since the update I'm sure the food is as good as ever as the staff are the same. Before the update this restaurant was waitress service but now you have to queue at the counter and order what you want before sitting down. They have also simplified the menu and it is now about half the size it used to be. Also they have stopped selling pots of tea and though I emailed the company to complain about this, I was told it is because they don't have the room they used to behind the counter. It really is a shame as I used to enjoy a nice pot of tea with my meals or snacks. Even the staff seem to be less happy with the new arrangments.

Have visited Barny's restaurant regularly for the last three years as the service was good, and there was quite a choice of menu together with lots of specials on the board. It has recently been refurbished and sadly I don't feel it's as good as it was. The booths used to be quite private with high seat backs but the tops have now been replaced with glass. There is also background music playing which is unnecessary even though it's fairly quiet. The television is on all the time with the sound muted. But the biggest shame is the fact that it used to be full waitress service but now you have to order at the counter and then it is delivered to the table but you fetch your own cutlery etc. The food is still lovely but less choice and only one item on the specials board. Sorry to say it's disappointing.

This was a pleasant surprise in the middle of Wadebridge on a freezing cold night! Brightly lit and welcoming, with good quality tables and chairs. Friendly helpful staff. We chose from the Specials Board, but also excellent choice on the main menu. Lovely, well cooked fish and tasty chips.Nice desserts and a good cuppa, what more could you ask!

This is a delightful room, at the back of the Bakery - behind the Malcolm Barnecutt café. I believe it was the Council chamber at one time, and has the most lovely stain glassed windows, and oak panelling.

Eating in Barny's is a joy. A waitress comes to the table to take your order and the food is freshly cooked. All reasonably priced and delicious. Good for morning coffee, lunch or early afternoon tea - with Cornish cream of course

The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is warm and cozy on a winter's day. At the moment they have a 'winter warmer' offer of £2.50 for a latte and shortbread biscuit. The latte was crazy sweet but the shortbread was good.

Barny's is a good value cafe and service was provided quickly and politely. The coffee was also surprisingly good.Nothing was exceptional but neither was there anything wrong, all in all they sell good honest food at reasonable prices.BTW They have free WiFi, which was useful because I couldn't get a mobile signal inside.

Wondering where we might get some lunch and raised the question with a local lady in the street - she recommended Barny's. We would never have located it without her directions. Up half a level behind a bakery in the Barnecutt Bakery Guild Hall is Barny's.Very good menu, friendly and efficient service by the staff on our visit. The building itself has some very church style features.

We sat down and ordered a cup of tea and toasted teacakes. After 20 mins nothing had happened. I went to the counter and asked why have so many people been served and we not. The answer came, as you are sitting, you take second place, the people that come in from the street have priority. You will have to wait!!!!!!!

What a hidden treasure!! Tucked away at the back of the bakers on Bodmin High street this charming tea room/restaurant is like stepping back in time. We were approached by the pleasant waitress upon seating and didnt have to wait long for our food. We were exceptionally pleased and I must recommend the homemade lasagne!!! The price was very reasonable and its easy to see why this charming little place was so busy. Definitely stop by!!

Recommended this excellent bakery and café and we certainly weren't disappointed. The cafe at the back of the shop is a fascinating old building with some attractive stained glass windows. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Tea and coffee were both very good. My husband enjoyed an excellent almond slice, while I tucked into delicious simnel cake. Yummy.

From the outside this is a baker's shop behind which is the restaurant. The food is always freshly cooked and so isn't fast food, but it is great plain cooked food. The cakes are lovely and the pasties are the best in the area, also if you like your tea in large amounts this is the place to go.The building itself used to be the old council chambers as shown by the crest over the shop entrance, the windows show various crests in coloured glass. Overall a great place to visit as all the locals who go there will agree.

I have to admit that I am not the person that comments on anything and everything, nor do I ever right a review of my experience. If I am unsatisfied with the experience, I just won't return again. But ... I have been seeing the Development of this establishment for that past 20 years and treated myself quite often to a night or two in any of the corner or best suites ( highly recommend those ) and enjoyed the ambiance and service this hotel had to offer. Our experience: Arrival to the hotel : We planned to have drinks prior to our meal. Found the bar area as busy as usual. With no free seats in sight, I ask the Brasserie manager if we could order drinks in the main lounge, whereas we been told that there normally is service but he has no clue what they doing today. Not answer I was hoping for. The entrance to the main lounge also been blocked off for some reason. Luckily the wait at bar was sufficient enough to pass the time for a table to become vacant. In previous visits, a relaxed table service was offered but not this time for some reason . Guess it’s an informal 5 star service.. , had to ask for bar menus as neither been on the bar or tables to see what’s on offer. ( also no usual complimentary nuts that used to be offered ) Restaurant We arrived early to our Booking at the samphire and were delighted to be able to be seated, unfortunately without any menus. It took about 10-15 min of us staring holes into the warm air, when I lost my patients and had to get up from the table to ask for menus at the entrance of the Restaurant. Yet again it took quite a while for us to order drinks and food as it seemed to be a chaotic service with everyone doing everything and no restaurant Manager nor head waiter in sight ( please note.. all evening ) . The lack of attention to detail was incredible .. table settings with knives to left and forks to right on every table .. just wow - giggle Food and drinks order done. ( ordered a glass of white wine with my mains, which never arrived ).. Drinks arrived what seamed ages. Overheard table next to us complaining about the slow service too, which been given a small apology but no solution to increase the speed of service ( yet again a lack of management ) Noticed the young waiter being unfamiliar on how to correctly present a bottle of wine and opening it, which I thought should be a training standard for a 5 star establishment. not only did he seem untrained, he also dried his hands in a used napkin left on the table next to him where diners just left. The pork belly starter , was below luke warm which was shame as its been rather tasty. I guess if a portion of this size is sitting on a kitchen pass for mere 3 min, it naturally will loose its core temperature, suggestion.. Next time use a cloche! I wanted to point this out to the service but yet again no manager or headwaiter to be seen and the waiters seem too busy to be bothered. Once they did ask if everything is alright, but by that time we finished what we had on the plate ( which is not a lot if you are hungry ) Unfortunately the main course of the hen and the monk fish not been any better and yet again being luke warm. Dessert of the frangipane tart and pineapple been ok, but yet again no attention to detail, as the dessert been bought out without cutlery being replenished prior. Ordered coffee to be served in the lounge, which arrived with no sugar or spoon and had to be asked for separately. When I paid my bill, I mentioned that the wine I ordered with my main course never arrived. No apology was offered.. A "informal fine Dining " experience. 95% informal - 5 % fine Dining. :-( Over the past 20 years I always chose the Headland hotel for its perfection, attention to detail and impeccable service, this time it's not delivered to its promise which is a shame cause that's what I will remember.. Coming from a 4 to a 5 star .. I expected more ( go back to 4 stars !!! You been better then

I will start by saying the restaurant did reduce our bill and throw in a few free extras but we were very surprised by the quality and portioning of the food. At the time the cafe was very quiet but the staff seemed a little bit chaotic. Orders not being put through properly, items missed off and not knowing what beer they had available. A couple of us ordered the chicken burger (£13) and my son had the kids version (£8.50) but his came with chips. I was pretty shocked when we both received exactly the same sized portion. A small bun, 1/2 a small chicken fillet and one piece of lettuce, not exactly worth £13. The staff did even comment that they there was an issue but still felt it was fine to serve and just expect people to pay. The pizzas were but ok but again surprised when we we charged £3 for 2-3 sliced olives as an extra. We've eaten at many other places up and down the coast and based on our experience we would not return.
