Iv eaten at this restaurant since I was 8 years old. And it has always been a fantastic experience. October 26th however was beyond awful, I took my daughter for hat I thought would be a good meal only to be mr with immediate rudeness for older waitresses telling us we must order all dishes straight away. Then the food came out the starters were actually good. But the main course’s were awful! Tuna steak over done and dry and lobster chewy and totally overdone not edible. When complaining to the so called manager Pedro he proceeded to poke around both me and my daughters plates saying there was nothing wrong with the food also was very confrontational ! Any chef or restaurant manager worth there salt could of seen how badly this food had been cooked. Theses sort of dishes need finesse not cooking to death. Pedro the manager is one of the worst restaurant managers iv ever come across who has no experience in fine dining or customer relations and has tuned this once fine establishment into a kebab shop. I will never return and am considering legal action. Please take you money elsewhere. Utterly awful and very poor management

I was unfortunately unimpressed with the mains of halibut and cod , which felt like frozen fillet rather than fresh fish fillet . My banoffe tartlet was cold like the banana slices it had on accompanied by cold banana ice cream . There was no finesse in that dish . Please could these be improved . Otherwise the starters were fine and the staff were friendly .

Came here with my girlfriend for the first time last weekend and had the new set menu. It was an excellent choice of food, really delicious. All the staff were attentive and friendly throughout. Highly recommended and will be visiting there again very soon.

I would like this review to be fair and accurate. We arrived just after 7pm and were seated on a table upstairs just inside the door. This meant it was opening and closing constantly so drafty. We did ask for the door to be closed several times and yes we could have asked to move or the staff could have offered to move us just worth baring in mind if you are booking a table. We ordered a simple starter of bread and olives which took more than 15mins to arrive. Some time later, we were asked if we were ready for the main course which we agreed. It took over an hour to arrive. We queried the wait with the waitress who went to the kitchen to check and said the food would arrive next, it didn't and we noticed another table receive their food ahead of us. We spoke again to a member of staff, a man who appeared to be managing, expressing our annoyance at waiting over an hour, his reaction was unconcerned, indifferent at best, with no apology or acknowledgement of the wait. When the food did arrive, at around 9.15pm (2hours after we sat down!) it was excellent, which at £29 for a main course is just as well because the service certainly didn't reflect the price. We ordered four coffees, these were delivered one at a time, with the last one, 10mins after the first! Unfortunately, when you are paying premium prices, you expect the service to reflect this and whilst our direct waitress was attentive, when other members of staff got involved, they didn't support her attempts at good service. We will not be returning anytime soon.

We had excellent service on Saturday 5th October for our 50th wedding anniversary celebration lunch. The Cow Shed was the perfect venue for our party of 12. We could not fault the service or food and all our dietary needs were met with no hassle. The four hours went bye far too quickly.

I was absolutely disgusted either way how the mangers spoke to their staff, swearing in front of customers! Absolutely shocking!!

My food was ok, I played it safe with haddock and chips but my partners steak was a terrible cut and this would have been apparent before cooking by any experienced chef. Plenty of other alternatives locally and cheaper will not rush back purely based on the kitchens attempts to fob us off with poor quality stock.

Really nice atmosphere. Very attentive staff. Top notch service in a very professional manner. Food was spot on with taste and portion size, we were not rushed and there was plenty of time between courses. We would recommend the steak and also the stone bass fish main.

Get down there for a cracking night of live entertainment in the Bedouin tent. Cocktails are discounted early doors. Feel like a Christmas party, It’s a fun and lively atmosphere, with everyone on a good mood. The singer was excellent and food was good.

Fantastic food and customer service, highly recommend for any seafood fan and the steak is the best Ive ever had in my life and I've eaten lots of steak all over and this is the best. Had salt and pepper calamari to start and sirloin with half a lobster as a main. Cannot fault any of my experience here. My wife was also able to have half of hers as takeaway.

Nice venue and surrounding area, the food was served promptly and The Dishes all full of flavour. Oyster thai sauce (the green one) was perfect match! 2nd visit was so good edited first review..

Worth more than five stars, possibly the best restaurant experience we've ever had , the food was outstanding, service impeccable, and the willingness to please was excellent, we were a party of four, on a busy Saturday, however we were made to feel like we were the only people there , we will praise them for a long time.

Set well back from the road this attractive establishment presents an interesting set of buildings. The theme is followed inside making most of the exposed brickwork and beams. The welcome at reception was pleasant and a young team waiting to take guests to their tables. We went to the upstairs dining area where the rustic themes are maintained. It was a busy Saturday evening service and there was a lot of activity. A mature, confident foreign waiter took our order and was obviously in charge of proceedings while the young largely female waiting service provided some of the leg work. Starters arrived fairly promptly and the menu is extensive with hints of adventure. My charred octopus was very tasty if a little on the chewy side - a common issue with octopus. My halibut main course was generous with some flavoursome vegetables. Given there was a large gathering - a wedding maybe - in the extensive tented ( Bedouin! ) area - there was no impact on the speed of service which is vie a dumb waiter for the first floor. This seemed to work very well although one hiccup was a missed arancini to profuse apologies. Plenty of parking for a bust Saturday service.

Came to Barnacles as part of a wedding party using the Bedouin Tent. Wow. We were blown away. A breathtaking venue and setting, exceptional atmosphere. The food was delicious and plentiful. Nothing short of perfect service. The bar staff working that evening were unbelievable. Not only would they memorise a massive drinks order, they had it prepped within seconds. It was like watching synchronised bartending, an absolute spectacle. Brilliant people. Perfect evening. Would highly recommend!!

The place was absolutely spot on with the decor,but that is where the niceeties end, there was 7 of us two had lobster thermidor and two had mussels,now I am 71 years old and very well travelled the mussels were the smallest I have ever seen in a cream fluid no seasoning at all,and as I left most of them,the waitress should have picked up on it, but nothing.The lobster was shocking on both accounts,if I can give any advice cut out your portion control especially on the bread. So we have been meaning to go there for years, but once is enough.

You'd be hard pressed to find anywhere in the Midlands that serves food as fresh, delicious and exclusive as this. Set in their beautiful grounds, you'll be spoilt for choice in the different parts of their building you'll sit. Regular entertainment is put on in the marquee tent too outside, so if you're not quite done after your food, just sit back, relax and enjoy the company you're with for longer. The team are amazing. Kate, Claire, everyone. A real sense of pride. Will be back time and time again!

Nice decor and waiting staff, however food a little disappointing. Calamari not made fresh from scratch, lobster over cooked and rather skimpy, fillet steak lacking magic and the extra Mediterranean vegetables excessively salty. would go again but not in a rush to do so.

Amazing venue, lovely building, decor and surroundings (although had to hold breath in car park due to overwhelming rotten eggs smell, maybe from the lake?). Everything was really nice the staff were nice, I down rated service as we were not asked if food was OK or of we wanted more drinks or anything else during meal. The food was mostly disappointing. Calamari was nice and fresh. Arachi was bland even with the bland sauce. The battered haddock was bad, far too much greasy batter and very little fish, i really enjoy battered fishand wil prder it from most restaurants where possible, this should have been really good given the reputation, but it was really not. This came served with disapointing potato wedges that were unseasoned and not even crispy, just warm wedges of potato. Tiger prawn pasta tasted good, smallest tiger prawns I've ever seen though.

This place screams quality in all respects. Excellent Moules Marinière with delightful sauce and perfect seasoning. Homemade fish pie was super tasty and served with well-cooked fresh vegetables. Staff all appropriately attentive and helpful. Lovely setting in the quasi conservatory. Not the cheapest, but well worth the effort.

If I could give more than 5 for food I would. A party if 8 last night - we had an array of very interesting and tasty starter including chargrilled octopus and then main courses- mine was a trio of fish- 3 fillets cooked to perfection. My FIL had steak- very well cooked and parents had fish and chips- dutiful even had peas and curry sauce- nice touch. My husband had the pork loin from the specials- slightly sad to see no chips or potatoes so we shared chips- would suggest they add a potato to the fish or make sure the staff ask if you want something. Drinks brilliant- had an array of classic cocktails and finished with liquor coffees- thanks to all at Barnacles-nice night again!

We had an amazing evening in the Bedouin Tent to celebrate our wedding party. Our guests loved the venue and we couldn’t be happier with how everything went. A special mention must go to Chantelle for her efforts throughout the planning stage and delivering a perfect party for us. She is a real credit to Barnacles and we’re incredibly grateful to her for her support. We would definitely recommend this venue for any party or special occasion.

My Sunday lunch was cold. I had to send it back, and after a short time, the waitress called from the centre of the room how my meal was ? In a very unprofessional manner! We had to wait one hour before our starter was served My partners seabass was so over cooked it was dry, plus 6 mussels in her starter were closed, therefore not edible.

If you like a long wait ,cold food , small portions, this is the restaurant for you a truly awful experience the service was good and the waitress was very nice friendly and sympathetic.

Came here for a much wanted meal and was very disappointed…… service was excellent but the food was barely warm and portion size was what I would class for a child! We were so very disappointed as we were really looking forward to our meal…. Left feeling hungry!

Very disappointing food, I expected better given the price and reputation. Service for Multiple customers was extremely slow and when I remarked about this the service staff made no apology or even acknowledged my comment.

I had my baby shower here the other week in The Cow Shed and the whole experience was brilliant. Food was delicious but mostly the service was amazing - staff couldn’t do enough to accommodate us and were overall really lovely.

Great place went there for a party

Lovely place, nice decoration. Expecting a gourmet experience. Starter of lobster, prawn and salmon cocktail. Looked like I had crayfish, couldn’t see a prawn as all mushed up apart a sliver of smoked salmon between the cocktail and the crumpet. Was expecting kiln salmon mixed with the other ingredients instead of smoked. It was far too cold and therefore unable to taste it. Fish pie, one small piece of salmon and two prawns - that’s it! The vegetables were delicious. The service was not the best: mains cutlery left with aperitif glasses on the table for dessert. Hardly any attention to our table; not asked if any issues, didn't ask if we had any dietary allergies as no allergen info, didn’t check our glasses for refill, didn’t ask if we wanted wine, not asked if we wanted coffee. Specials of the day not mentioned but just a card. I expected a lot better especially for the price and the decor. Let down. I still prefer san giovanni!

Visited here last week. We had the pigeon for starter, the lobster and prawn risotto and the trio of fish for main, and the creme brûlée for dessert. As is the hazard with pigeon, I had two pieces of shrapnel in the meat. The waiter awkwardly just walked away when I told him this, although he did return later and apologise. The portion was very small which, considering the cost of the meat, was very disappointing. The meat was tough, so the starter was nothing special. The lobster and prawn risotto was lovely. They were generous with the amount of lobster and prawn in the dish. The trio of fish was fine, but nothing to write home about. The swordfish was dry and tough and there wasn’t much for greenery/sides on the plate. The creme brûlée was very nice and I would recommend this dish. We had eaten our starter and main in the space of 45 minutes and I think if we hadn’t ask to delay the dessert, we would have been out of there within an hour. For a meal costing well over £100, I expect to be in the restaurant for more than an hour. I also expect to feel full, which neither of us did upon leaving. Overall, I don’t think the restaurant is worth the price tag. There are restaurants out there with lower prices, offering better quality food. I won’t be rushing back here anytime soon.

Special Birthday Lunch! I hosted a birthday lunch here on 23rd June for 28 people. From the time of booking to the day itself the staff couldn't have been more helpful, friendly and amenable. We had the deck area and were able to use the outside space. My guests began to arrive from 12 and service was 12.45 so plenty of time to greet people and chat. There were plenty of staff taking drinks orders and serving the food. They were organised and knew which tables they were serving. The food was excellent, hot, tasty and well presented. The room was booked from 12 to 5, the young children fed the ducks and walked around the pond. It was a perfect, relaxed day, My requests were noted and carried out seamlessly. Thank you to all the staff.

Great time had by everyone for my partners sisters 70th birthday .staff were excellent and looked after us very well, even when her husband kept on doing the drinks orders for them!

Pedro what can I say….. the way you think it is acceptable to speak to your customers is disgusting. We spent £400 in here between 5 of us and my sister ordered a medium steak but it certainly was not cooked medium. We spoke to pedro and he said “it’s a perfect medium” for someone who regularly eats steak and cooks it, it most certainly was not a medium. Pedro made my sister feel so uncomfortable that she said she would keep it. After eating a 1/4 she couldn’t eat any more as it was tough so we don’t pedro we did not want it. Guess what, pedro still tried to charge us for it. Telling pedro I’m not paying for a steak that was not eaten his whole attitude started to stink even more. Threatening to call the police over a £30 steak, let’s be honest the police would not come over a £30 steak. Anyway I did not pay for the steak. As someone who was a regular customer I most certainly will not be coming back. Pedro needs to learn how to speak to people, absolute horrible person that ruined my family dinner.

Food was average for the price. Pedro the owners attitude stinks. Wouldn't recommend.

A huge thank you to Kate and her team. It was a surprise 40th birthday for our son (with 12 guests). The meal from start to finish was amazing. We received fantastic service from the staff and they were very helpful and polite. Everything was cooked to perfection and compliments to the chef, it was certainly the best sirloin I had ever had. Everyone commented how wonderful the food was and our son absolutely loved the lobster. We will definitely be returning. Many thanks again, Angie and Martin Borland.

Food is delicious! Staff are complacent and you get a “can’t really be bothered” vibe, whole experience felt very rushed - which is a shame, as it really lets the place down.

Lobster was really tough, even with a steak knife! Manager was so not bothered!! Said he wasn't going to cook another £50 lobster because it might be the same . We agreed to have a free pudding , thinking that we wouldn't be charged for my not eaten lobster, but oh no!!! Robbing Ba.. ards

Food and atmosphere Fantastic We were about to bill the bill and then spotted drinks they we did not have. When I questioned this, the staff just said sorry human error. They removed the extra drinks and presented a new bill £30 less. It just made me wonder how many other times did this happen? By human error the restaurant could make a fortune out of people if you don't check your bill. Be aware

We've come to Hinkley for a hotel inspection. Googled fish restaurants and up came Barnacles. Booked a table........absolutely fantastic. Great welcome, shown to our table and the rest.......12 out of 10 is not enough. Mouth watering oysters for starters, the accompanying sauces were delish, mains as tasty and a cheeseboard rounded it off nicely. Had 1 our favourite Marlborough Kiwi wines on the wine list, 1 less bottle to chill, really friendly staff, soooooòooo good, we're coming back tomorrow. The Aberdonians.

Great food, excellent variety - it's not all seafood - and overall tasty fish! I got the 3 fish dish and all the fillets were cooked really well and quite flavoursome. The chips were excellent as a side, and the garlic dip was spectacular with them. The mixed fish platter for 2 to start was great, I'd really recommend it; gives a terrific demonstration of the quality of the fish and how delicious it all is! As I was only a party of 2 I was sat on a small table which seemed out the way, so had to wait a while for service to notice we were done and clear dishes, take orders etc. Other than that it was a very good meal.

Lovely place just off the M69. Set in a lovely countryside location. The decor is very nice. There is a small bar area with plenty of options, including bon alcoholic drinks and cocktails on tap. Relaxed atmosphere and waiting staff are very friendly. We had lobster thermidore, which was very nice and cooked to perfection. If you have mobility issues or a bit unsteady be careful as the carpark is all large bits of rock. There are steps to the bar and restaurant area downstairs and stairs to the restaurant upstairs. Heel wearers be ready, its all lovely wood flooring, so watch that heel slide (if you know you know 😉) I would recommend it here, especially if like me you love seafood

Lovely restaurant set in a nice rural setting just off the m69 Food was very nice and there was lots of choice for drinks, whether it be alcohol or not. Pudding were ok the usual type of Pudding, although the pineapple was different and very enjoyable. If you have mobility problems, be careful as the carpark is all stones and there are steps to the bar and restaurant.

Been here a few times and for me the food standard is not good, my wife wanted to go somewhere 'nice' for our anniversary, the last time we went was around 1.5 years ago I had the haddock and chips but because of the oil in the batter it made me feel slightly nauseous and I thought it must have been just an off day so this time I had the same meal and once again it was very oily and didn't leave a nice taste in my mouth, I would say that our local 'chippy' is 100% hands down better and a third of the price cheaper, cannot see me going here again but the guinness was better than our local

Was very ill for a few days after eating here. It’s now revealed they have a 1* food hygiene eating which probably explains it. When we called up, the manager wouldn’t discuss it further unless I had been to the doctors and had a note. Awful.

We've been meaning to come for years and the wait was worth it!! Lovely food. The sharing fish basket to start was lovely. What a treat to have lobster thermidor!!! The service was excellent with a real family feel. Great selection of gins and lovely wine. A really good place to celebrate our anniversary.

Been here previously. Lovely surroundings, service good. I thought the quality/quantity had deteriorated since last time. I had fish pie served with a bowl of lovely greens however the fish pie was small, mainly potato, and the only fish in it was one prawn! For £21! Not good value and certainly not special. Thank goodness for my friend’s French fries!! However the wine was lovely and the salted caramel tart was fabulous. On the basis of the fish pie I would think twice about a third visit.

Service was slow. Very over priced. The fish and chips meal was terrible. The fish was very bland, chips were not cooked properly and hard. Waitress wasn’t interested. Won’t be going again as ridiculously over rated.

Lovely evening out with live music entertainment

The food is of a very bland and uninspiring standard. The prices are high and the quality of food and service does not reflect the price. The Lobster, Prawn and Salmon cocktail is a tablespoon of cocktail served on a dry crumpet and for £14 is one of the most disappointing things that has ever been plonked under my nose. The staff are not friendly, and also very loud when clearing and setting tables. Definitely one to avoid.

We had a fabulous time celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary and my parents 63rd wedding anniversary. As ever the food , service and hospitality were fantastic. At times the restaurant was a little noisy due to a table of 8 people not being courteous to others around them by wanting to talk/ shout very loudly to each other but this is not the restaurants fault.

Booked an anniversary lunch , Barnacles having been our first dinner date years ago. The staff were unwelcoming and service was slow with uninterested staff. We both ordered tuna steaks as this is a favourite of ours at other speciality fish restaurants. For such a dish, we are asked how we would like it cooked, as being asked how would you like your (meat) steak cooked. There was no interest. They turned up dry and mostly inedible. Having left half the meal, the plates were collected, without a " was the meal ok" so we just left. Uninterested as you were with us, we have no further interest in visiting you again.

Set off with high expectations, but sadly these weren't realised. The restaurant was cold, I kept my coat on throughout, there weren't many other diners but they were very noisy, the food was, in my opinion, overpriced and service was slow. I felt let down.

Food was fabulous and staff very helpful. There was a very noisy party on the next table which made it difficult to hear our own chats but I guess that's just one of those things!!!

I was with a party of friends to celebrate my 70th birthday. The food and service was lovely from having my drink and bottle of wine carried from the bar area to our table. The table was booked at 7:30. By 9:30 our table was the only one left in that particular area. I was seated head of the table facing where the waiting staff were visible. A lot of hovering around our table taking glasses one which wasn’t empty. Please take note when customers come for a night out and have paid good money, be polite and wait indiscreetly not making it obvious you wished us to leave bearing in mind it was 9:45 pm.

Had the risotto that was wonderful. Every mouthful was full of flavour and the staff were very attentive. My partner's crème brulee was a little burnt. Otherwise a perfect night for us both.

As a couple we hadn't dined at Barnacles Restaurant for almost 8 years, however, after our recent visit, we will be returning very soon. Firstly, the restaurant were able to accommodate a table reservation for 17 diners with only 2 days notice, which we secured with a deposit. On arrival we noticed that the restaurant decor is lovely, the staff were very welcoming and took our drink orders quickly and efficiently. Our orders off the menu for starter and main courses were taken soon after and served in a timely manner by very engaging serving staff. The food and service was excellent throughout our lunch. 5 Stars and thank you for making a party of 17 lunchtime diners very happy!

Went to the Abbalicious tribute band night, with Pizza and drinks. Excellent pizza, great atmosphere, superb service and will definitely be back!

Visited on the evening of the 24th Feb for my birthday meal with friends …. 1st visit to Barnacles and slightly disappointed…. Food was ok, prices what you expect but what disappointed was the feeling all the way through of our whole experience being rushed …. Rushed to order drinks, rushed to order food, rushed to eat …. Clearing plates away as soon as you put your cutlery down … rushed to choose desert , rushed to decide if we wanted another drink …. They even started clearing the table unused - cutlery away whilst we were chatting after out meal .. making us feel they wanted us to leave. We wanted to relax and have a chat after our meal and the constant interruption was totally unnecessary. Really disappointing.

Seemed lovely. But me and my friend got the worst foood poisoning after eating the oysters and lobster. Spent over a £100 and when we rang to inform them and make a complaint they asked to send in a poo sample. Not apologetic or professional at the slightest. I wish I could say I would reccomend this place and return but based on my experience I would not.

Absolutely stunning food.Taste all the different fresh spices and herbs and I felt like my pallette was entertained!!! Great choice of cuisine and beverages,delicious. It's well worth the experience imo.

I booked Barnacles for a Valentines night out what a lovely night, the atmosphere was lovely, the restaurant perfect and the staff were superb. I was expecting mainly fish on the menu but there was so much more, we both had Monk Fish wrapped in Serrano ham it was out of this world, this is our second visit and will now be a regular restaurant for us keep up the good work.

Sunday with the family daughter son in law my partner and 2 grand children, adults opted for Sunday roast, gravy was very salty, Yorkshire pudding was huge and disappointing, meat was lovley, we were seated upstairs next to the door with the bar behind us, we could hardly hear each other. All in all very dissapointing doubt we would go again.

We booked an early evening table and had a very warm welcome, we were shown to our upstairs table in the restaurant which was quiet but cold. There was plenty of staff who sadly spent more time talking to each other than paying attention to customers. We had to ask for a drink while we looked at the extensive menu with some really great sounding dishes. However even with lots of staff the drinks were slow to arrive. We finally place our order and the starters arrived nice and promptly, we had all chosen something different and none of us were disappointed. Sadly from then onwards it all went downhill, we waited over 50 minutes for our main course to arrive, the manager twice told us it was on its way and that it was because the fish pie takes a while! Eventually the food arrived but all the portions were very small, the sword fish raw and didn’t even look like it had seen the grill, I called the waitress over and showed her my raw fish but she said she would have to speak to the manager. He was taking an order else where so 5 minutes later he arrives, by this time everyone else had almost finished their meals, why could the waitress not have returned my meal? The manager said he would get me another meal which did arrive quite quickly but I then ended up eating my meal alone, mind you it didn’t take long as the portion of fish was extremely small. Still feeling hungry we opted to have dessert something i never normally have room for when dining out. No offer of coffee came either. The manager did offer us a free drink due to us having to wait so long for our main meals to arrive but no compensation for my raw fish. We didn’t want free drinks or raw fish, we went out expecting to receive a good quality, decent sized meal for a fair price. None of this did we have, very over priced and poor service so will not be returning.

Visited Sunday for an early brunch…great simple menu, we had avocado on bagel which was lovely and fresh, husband had Lobster Benedict both were very tasty… we also tried the Blueberry Bread which was also recommended by Jo the waiter - wow it was so tasty 👍 it’s lovely to have a knowledgeable waiter to recommend whats on the menu. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Overall - we would not return sadly We were dining as a couple not a huge group Service very poor, all drinks took ages to arrive at table even with prompts. After one particular prompt waitress clearly annoyed when we reminded her we’d already waited 15 minutes for one drink. In general , with the exception of the welcome, none of the staff seemed to be bothered whether we were there or not . Starters - one first choice not available at 7pm?? One would reasonably expect that possibly later in service. Soft shell crab - average, no wow factor. Main courses - One meal had to be sent back to kitchen because it was cold, when replacement arrived - no apology made. This meant we both ate our main meals separately! Other meal - lyonnaise potatoes were NOT lyonnaise potatoes- they were new potatoes sliced in half, fish bordered on being overcooked. Vegetables - average Choices of dessert - again nothing to wow you! At no point were we offered teas or coffees No finesse We expected better and were disappointed on every level. I wouldn’t recommend.

Fairly quiet pre Xmas meal in the tent, nice enough.

We went for our anniversary and had lunch, Great food lots of choice, service is amazing so friendly and helpful, restaurant is lovely we will definitely be back

We had a really nice evening, a lovely location and the atmosphere was perfect. There is a small bar also which is a nice touch whilst waiting for your table. We were a table of 7 and every single one of us commented on how good the food and service was, the serving team looked after us and we did not have to wait for drinks or food or for the table to be cleared. The pork Tomahawk was a really nice alternative to a beef steak, it was tasty too and plenty of it! Prices are reasonable given the quality of food. Thank you to the team and look forward to a return trip.
