Absolutely delicious food and large portions making it great value for money. Service was good too. Would absolutely recommend.

We have visited here a number of times but today were forced out of our seat in the middle of our dinner without any courtesy which was SO RUDE that we will never visit here again. We were disgusted!

This is a wonderful restaurant with a great, upbeat atmosphere, also with the perfect location in this charming town. The owner Joseph is super personable. I had their delicious fish and chips. Coming from America, I am not used to the size of the fish they serve-- a huge, long deliciously battered fish. And they were very kind to let me upgrade my chips to onion rings, which also were de-licious. I highly recommend Barnaby's Fish Restaurant!

What a bad experience fish and chips restaurant in Stratford the food wasn’t to bad but the staff was negative I wanted to commend the chef for the food and he offended me for no reason whatsoever he was rude shout out me and disrespectful me all I can say is avoid this place Mr. Wig. YouTube

Beautiful cod, perfectly cooked and v flaky, excellent large chips, huge portions and reasonably priced. Would recommend and will revisit.

Went for day out and decided to have lunch here. Seemed packed. Good sign? NO. Rude staff. Was treated with contempt. Had my order chosen by a rude lady who told me what I wanted. Felt obliged to comply which is never a good outcome! Went to pay. Told I could not use card as cash only accepted. When challenged I was informed that cash is best as the proprietor could pay his staff immediately. No excuse for rudeness. Prices were extortionate. £28 for two fish and chips a child's nugget and chips with three drinks. More money charged for tomato ketchup. Managed to leave with my pride as a father dented. Did manage to keep my other arm and my leg to buy ice cream elsewhere! Would I go back? NO. Would I recommend this establishment NO.

Decided on a day at Stratford upon Avon - only our second day out as lockdown eased. Lunch at Barnaby's where we were fortunate to get a table - the only downside to eating outside is being so close to the road but, under the circumstances, there was no choice. However, our meal was served piping hot - the cod very fresh cooked in crispy batter, chips were delicious, service was very good.As for the questions below .... the menu is on the wall inside the restaurant; we carry our own hand sanitiser; don't have toddlers; but if/when you visit take cash as Barnaby's doesn't accept cards.As we left, a long queue was forming.

Awful food. Made me ill. Chips were small slithers rather than full chips but the cod was disgusting. Overcooked burnt batter. I was sick after eating them

Decided to get a delivery of fish and chips after trying 2 which were recomended above barnabys which said they were open on Google but didn't answer phone plumped for barnabys. So glad the other 2 never picked up phone. Fantastic service delivered within 20 minutes hot lovely cod great chips will definitely use again thank you Jeff carol

Came here in March during the lockdown and decided to have some chips. I have been here before and left a negative review, and thought to myself I would give them another chance to redeem themselves. I think first impression are important and the staff here firstly look like they have lost the will to live. You couldn't find a smile if you tried, and it looked like the staff were half asleep. Moving onto the food. Well, it was dreadful. The chips were totally rushed through the fryer and were undercooked. I thought I would go back and complain but decided it would be a waste to the chips went into the bin. Summary Customer service 0/10 Food 0/10 Stay away at all costs

A big thank you to Barnaby's staff for their pleasant service and excellent food. Our fish and chip lunch was an excellent pick-me-up on a cold day during lockdown.Our fish is always cooked to order and the chips must have come straight out of the fryer which makes such a difference.

Freshly cooked, large portions, we ordered cod and haddock and both fishes were v tasty, would recommend BUT they do only accept cash.

Visitamos tan pronto como abrieron la hora del almuerzo. Me decepcionó que todas las fotografías y objetos de interés se hubieran caído de las paredes y la pecera estuviera vacía. Me encantó mirarlo todo mientras comía.Dicho esto, las mesas y la silla se limpiaron todo el tiempo que estuvimos allí. Nadie se sentó en las mesas a ambos lados de nosotros. El servicio de mesa y el personal están ocupados sirviendo y limpiando. El pescado y las patatas fritas eran una taza de té realmente agradable y excelente. Sirve la cerveza Bud demasiado bien.

¡El pescado con patatas fritas más sabroso que he probado en años! Vivo en Birmingham, a 70 millas de la costa. Todos los papas fritas cerca de mí son una gran decepción, por lo que fue un cambio bienvenido tener un pescado y papas fritas tan encantador de Barnaby's. 2 de nosotros compartimos una porción de bacalao y patatas fritas, ¡que fue suficiente para nosotros!

Visited with family and was delighted to find a really high standard of food, far superior to many I have visited on the coast. Lovely white fish, crispy batter and non greasy, perfectly cooked chips - recommenced 😎

Felt we didn't need a full blown meal so just had fish and chips. It was like a full blown meal. The chips were extremely dry, not greasy at all and the fish was beautiful. The meat was very succulent and the batter very crisp.

Nuestra primera visita a Stratford y nuestro primer viaje fuera de casa en 2020.Encontramos este restaurante de pescado y patatas fritas cuando pasábamos más temprano en el día, y una familia que comía afuera recomendó la comida.El personal nos saludó y sonrió y fue de gran ayuda al explicar la configuración.La comida era excelente, pero no pudimos limpiar nuestros platos porque las porciones de patatas fritas eran enormes y los trozos de pescado eran enormes.Gracias por una comida brillante, con un personal muy atento.Cuando nos fuimos, una persona recogió nuestros platos, etc. y otro hombre estaba rociando la mesa y limpiando los recipientes de condimentos.

Dreadful. Fish tasted bad - ended up throwing all of it out. The steak and kidney pie didn’t have any kidney in it. Everything was soggy. Very expensive and cash only. Absolute tourist trap. Avoid.

Solo vinimos aquí porque Cafe Rouge se había agotado en Duck, Prezzo no tenía mesas libres y Wetherspoons tenía una larga cola en la acera afuera.Estábamos a punto de intentar encontrar un lugar más cercano a nuestro hotel y pasamos por esta tienda / restaurante en la esquina de la calle.Fabuloso. Está bien, es solo en efectivo, está bien, usted ordena en el mostrador y paga en una caja registradora más adelante antes de encontrar un asiento, pero cuando llegó la comida, nos sorprendió lo bueno que estaba.El único lugar con el que puedo compararlo es el restaurante de pescado en el que hemos estado en Dartmouth y el de Brixham, donde pagas 3 veces más y tienes, Es en tu plato.No pudimos limpiar nuestros platos porque las porciones son tan enormes que una porción de patatas fritas entre nosotros habría sido suficiente.Sin piel en el pescado, sin patatas fritas grasientas.Perfecto.Vivimos en New Forest, nunca hemos estado aquí antes, pero se lo recomendaríamos a cualquiera.Gracias.Nos sentimos muy seguros (en cuanto a ensenada) ya que algunas de las mesas estaban marcadas como fuera de uso, y el personal estaba rociando y limpiando las mesas cuando los clientes se iban. Notamos que limpiaron los recipientes de vinagre y sal en la mesa. No hemos salido a comer en 6 meses. Así que fueron muy cautelosos.No tuvimos que preocuparnos.

Todo el personal parece trabajar muy duro y amable. PERO ! cuando adentro nadie se preocupaba por el distanciamiento social en la cola aunque las mesas estaban distanciadas. Fui a pagar la comida solo para que me dijeran solo en efectivo; hubiera sido bueno que el personal que tomaba el pedido o firmara en el menú me lo hubiera dicho, ya que tuve que salir de la cola cuando finalmente llegué a la caja para ir al 50 interno p cargo cajero automático. Disfrutamos del pescado y patatas fritas gracias. Un pescado y patatas fritas, una salchicha y patatas fritas, 3 botellas pequeñas de agua 19. 10 no es una comida barata

Very dissapointed that not one member of staff was wearing a visor/protective clothing. Tables were spaced exactly the same as when we visited 12 months ago and every one was occupied. Salt & vinegar bottles were passed between tables by staff. Cash only payment, when everyone else is requesting contactless ( you are directed to a cash machine in the shop ). This could close other eateries because of their reckless view to social distancing and lack of PPE.Hoping this doesn't add to disrupting tourism in Stratford on Avon !

The food was nice enough for sure but was a little overpriced for what it was - unsurprisingly you pay for sitting on the terrace in the hustle and bustle of Stratford. Quite plentiful portions but nothing special really.Oh, and it’s cash only so be aware of that.

Travelled to Stratford-on-Avon for lunch at Barnaby’s fish restaurant. Disappointment does not come near to the experience. Clearly under different ownership, no card payments accepted, cash machine inside pay to get your own money. Fish portions much smaller and over cooked very dry. Too much batter to make the fish look bigger. Sachets of sauces 5p each. Glasses for drinks dirty. Sadly will be my last visit to Barnaby’s.

We had a large cod and chips..and a small cod and chips along with mushy peas bottle of bud and a can of coke. We ate inside, they were gorgeous, freshly made and piping hot...wonderful chippy restaurant.

Whilst in the Q for a takeaway I noticed how small the cod was so ordered a large cod and chips. Fish was significantly overcooked, chips are average. Clearly this place trades on location oh and BTW it’s cash only they have an ATM inside you can guess the rest, pay to get your own money out. Would not go again !

It doesn’t really matter about the food when the staff are so rude. It really puts you off your dinner. Staff rudeness aside, the food was average at best and very pricey.

Ate here on Sunday 19th July and if you order inside (pay VAT etc) you can eat out on the terrace. Have to say the surroundings were amazing the hustle and bustle in the shadow of The Royal Shakespeare Theatre.The place is under new management and the fish was succulent and the chips divine.As people left the tables they were immediately sanitized by the staff waiting to do it. Felt very comfortable during the whole visit. 10 out of 10

visited and ordered 3 meals which came to £20. disappointed that could only pay cash (especially considering Covid pandemic and most other places are card only) food came relatively quick and all was hot and tasty. only downside was they were just passing round a old notebook for track and trace (covid-19) where everyone's numbers and names were visible to all so no security/ GDPR. tables were being cleaned but only with basic shop brought cleaner and girl cleaning said tables knelt on chairs but didnt wipe over nor did she wipe salt and vinegar dispensers over

A little trip to Stratford upon Avon over the weekend we decided to stop off for fish and chips. Not the cheapest fish and chips I've had, but in all honesty they were fantastic, really nice and hot and enjoyable.Nothing like having fish and chips outside by the river and watching the world go by!

Went here for takeaway lunch wished I hadn't. Chips were pale mush in a tray and battered sausage looked and tasted like the cheapest you can buy.pkus points were few but at least it was hot and the oil was clean overall Avoid .

After the pandemic lockdown, my wife & I thought we would go somewhere we liked. So we went to Barnabys. It was as good as before with social Distancing in order. We were there today

Visited Stratford with family, find this fish and chips on the main road and we buy a very generous portion. Good to find it open 👍

Stopped for an early evening dinner and it was lovely. Good portion sizes. The cod was cooked fresh and not too much batter. Will definitely be returning.

The restaurant is really stick in the 70's with the decor. Hanging spider plants and plastic plants with photos and cars on the wall. The food however was lovely and hit,freshly cooked. We had cod, chips and mushy peas

Decided to get some fish & chips after seeing this place. Was not expecting much after our experience with what was supposedly one of the best shops in london, but we found the cod to be quite good taste- and texture-wise.

Disappointing. It’s hard to do poor chips. But they managed it. Oily yet dry. Plus there’s a minimum contactless payment amount which was outlawed in the uk a year or two ago. Plus the homage to the Krays was baffling. Step a little further into town for better food.

A great lunch option to have while sat on the lawn of Bancroft Basin. Quick service for four of us. Would happily have something here again. The quality is standard fish and chips though.

En la noche húmeda de diciembre, busqué en el mercado callejero una hamburguesa de venado, avestruz o rinoceronte, pero en vano, así que terminé en el restaurante Barnaby's Fish. Bonitas patatas fritas y delicioso bacalao. El pastel de carne de mi compañero, por otro lado, fue una decepción. Ella lo envió de vuelta y consiguió otro igual. Si alguien se había propuesto deliberadamente inventar la corteza de pastel resistente a los cubiertos, entonces habían tenido éxito. '¡Mira eso! 'dijo mi amado, apuñalando con fuerza la corteza con la punta de un cuchillo. Arrojó algunas escamas pero permaneció intacto como un escudo romano en el RSC. El interior era principalmente salsa con poca evidencia de carne sólida.

Visité este café para almorzar en un viaje a Stratford. Estaba casi vacío, en un día bastante ocupado en Stratford, lo que quizás debería haber sido una advertencia para nosotros. La comida estaba bien, pero era bastante cara: pagamos más de 15 por una porción de bacalao, un pastel de pescado, una porción de papas fritas y dos tés. ¡Habiendo pagado 15, no esperaba tener que gastar más para comprar bolsitas de salsa de tomate y salsa tártara! No volveré a visitar de nuevo.

Absolutely terrible! Wish I'd never stepped foot in the place. £20 for warmed up chips, soggy fish, dry bread and butter, and to top it off a HAIR! There are loads of nice places to eat in Stratford, take my advice.....don't bother eating here. 😫😫

Portions excellent, staff very efficient, prices great, good menu choices....... Ideal before a Town Ghost Walk or the fireworks display. Highly recommend.

It's a bit of a problem being drawn into Barnaby's by the smell of fish and chips as we often are.

Popped in here with hubby and Henry hound. Sat at outside tables having ordered and our freshly cooked food arrived quickly. Staff were very friendly. The fish was fresh not frozen, tasted delicious and the chips were good too.

We had a lovely meal but when ordering the staff are very rude and we nearly walked out as we asked for haddock and the women said very offish cods ready now I said have you got any haddock but she just kept saying cod, so I asked have you got any haddock she said yes we’ll cook some them Jesus Christ’s it’s not rocket science

Big tasty portions of cod or haddock with fresh chips and delicious mushy peas. Beer and wine available as well as soft drinks, tea and coffee.

We stoped here to get some lunch as it was near by and we could take our food to the canal side and eat there. There is a restaurant part, but if you are taking food away you need to order from the entrance to the side.

Came for an early lunch as skipped breakfast, so was looking forward to it.Ordered cod ,chips & mushy peas, cod & peas were okay ,chips not good quality so was a bit dissapointed, lots of hard scabby pits instead of actual potato chips.Price a bit high for a cafe , what we spent could of gone for a pub lunch with better surroundings. Must say expected better.

Beautiful delicious food, best mushy peas ever so what a shame the men working there feel the need to harass every young girl that pops in. Had to rethink coming back.

Four meals, all excellent and good quality. Not the cheapest for this type of food but the food produced was better than your average chip shop in our opinion. It helps you can eat inside (fans help in the heat) or outside. We were happy with the service from the team that served us. Beautifully located. We hope to visit again and would recommend it.

We visited today and ordered some chips and curry sauces for us to take and eat by the river. The amount they charged for a very small large portion of chips was not justified for a very unsatisfactory standard.

My wife & I often pop over to stratford upon avon for a day. From Coventry where we live. It was raining, but we are british we are used to it. we went over for lunch on my birthday treat , there was quite a lot of people about all covered up for the weather. The fish my wife had was haddock, chips& mushy peas, I had steak & ale pie chips & baked beans with gravy, they were delicious Thankyou.

Staff were very rude. Ordered food while the bloke was stood on his phone.

Call themselves a fish restaurant, it’s a chippy. And what’s more it’s a bad chippy , peas hard as nails. Chips undercooked and the batter on the fish soggy not nice. The waiter said he would talk to the chef. What a joke, chef that cannot cook fish and chips. What a rip off.

Visited today totally shocked of the manners of the staff especially the Indian man it's like he was doing sending Chor not serving paying customers rude and very unprofessional won't be spending my money there again .

After traipsing round the wonderful Stratford-upon-Avon Christmas Market for a few hours, and being heavily pregnant, we were trying to find somewhere warm for a cup of tea and a bite to eat. All the chain cafes were full to the brim and proper restaurants were booked up so when we found a few empty tables in Barnaby's we ran for them! It was still rather busy so there was a bit of a queue for food but I was just happy to be sitting down! We only had chips and hot drinks but they were all perfectly lovely. It's not fine dining by any means and the staff weren't particularly friendly but I imagine it had been a long busy day for them. For a quick break from the crowds though, it was just what we needed!

Enjoyed eating here. Vegetarian choices available. Food was hot, fresh and tasty. Would eat there again.

We popped in for a lunchtime sit down meal & I had Cod & chips with mushy peas & my wife had Cod & chips. Went & ordered without waiting & food was served in less than 5 mins in a busy restaurant that had outside sitting & a seperate take away service(Big queue,which normally means good food). They had a really large selection of food & drinks including wine & beer if you required. Very good fish & chips enjoyed by both of us & great speed of service.

In Stratford for the day, opted against a pub lunch in favour of fish at chips at Barnabys. The interior certainly isn't plush, but it's adequate and functional if a little dated. Bit of a delay when ordering the food due to foreign tourists who were having language problems, but once that was sorted and we were seated it seemed no time at all before we received our meals. Had the traditional cod and chips, which was of good quality and a decent sized portion. Had a pot of tea too, which ticked all the boxes. Some of Stratford's prices can seem a bit high, but here the cost was very reasonable, not much more than I would expect to pay at home for fish and chips to take away. It wasn't very busy while we were there so staff weren't exactly rushed, but they were very efficient, quick to clear tables once customers had left, and also very polite. Would certainly visit here again.

The interior has a charming appeal, but an eery tone of the British brexit utopia fast approaching. Cash payments are only accepted from grumbling staff.

Lovely fish and chips at a reasonable price. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Good friendly service. Decor and style may be dated but the food tasted great.

Very limited selection for vegetarians, still handing out POLYSTYRENE trays for the chips and has no card payments! Whole place feels dated and just needs to join the 21st century. Food was okay.

Went here with my Mum and Dad recently. You get a very generous helping of chips with an average chunk of fish which in my opinion was more batter than fish.

A single, small sized fish and chips 2 sauces and soft drinks will cost you the obscene sum of £15. Definitely aimed at the tourists. There are much better fish and chip places in town.

After our walk to Stratford-Upon-Avon we stopped at Barnabys for their Fish & Chips plate. The food was surprisingly good with generous portions and good prices. Staff was kind enough and the service was fast.

After s long long look around Stratford we decided to go for fish and chips. Whenever we passed the shop the queue for the takeaway side was very long so they were popular. We went to eat in. They were lovely. I had the haddock and my husband had cod. The fish was lovely and white and very tasty. I couldn't get garden peas ( they didn't do them) but my husband had mushy peas. Unfortunately he found them a little too sweet but that was just for his taste. Otherwise worth trying them

We were on our way back from holiday and stopped to stretch our legs and get something to eat. Had a quick walk around and decided on fish and chips and of the few we saw chose this place as it had plenty of seating available and was certainly in the best location. Several tables had been reserved (school party arrived shortly after us) but we found a table which was quickly cleaned for us. We sat waiting for the waiter to bring us a menu but after a few minutes realised that you had to go up to the counter to order ? there were in fact two separate places to order dependent on eating in or taking out ? You place your order, get a ticket which you then take to another area to pay and get your drinks ? all a bit of a faff in our opinion. Don't do steak pudding only pies, another thing we found strange. The food arrived in good time and was 'ok' and certainly plentiful, far too many chips, although they were tasty enough. The fish seemed to bit a bit hit and miss, mine was nice enough but my wife's piece was poor, I ended up giving her a chunk of mine. Peas were ok. Tea worth a mention only because it was so poor, far too milky which made it luke warm. The (miserable) girl on the till added the milk for you at the same time as the tea bag, you had no choice in the matter. In fairness we did see some food going past that looked nice, salad bowls looked lovely, even Lasagna, but perhaps they are trying too hard to please everyone rather than concentrating on serving really good fish and chips ? and they certainly need to introduce table service in our opinion. It's not a place we shall be returning to.

It's not easy walking past Barnabys as the fantastic fish smells waft around town and entice you inside where the friendly staff close the deal and send you on your way to fish and chip heaven.

George and his staff make every effort to ensure their fish and chips are good. My family knows through experience they achieve this consistently, as evidenced by the long queues seen daily at his shop. Definitely recommended.

Staff were miserable and very rude. Food was inedible and the service unreliable. People who had arrived after myself and friends were served with their food before us. When one of my friends approached a member of staff and politely asked if we had been overlooked, she was ordered, very aggressively,to 'SIT DOWN'. When the food did eventually arrive, the waiter tried to serve us with an extra meal that we hadn't ordered and was very reluctant to take it away. We tried to eat our meals but it was a case of hunt the scampi in the Scampi and chips. The fish was dry and tasteless, and the batter too thick and weird tasting. The chips were also tasteless and very pale.

Just terrible is the only two words you can say about this place. Staff rude and had no idea of running a business. As for the fish & chips when they were eventually so called served more like slang at you, the fish was warm but had no taste and as for the chips words just cant explain them. A meal I wouldn't serve to a dog. The only thing I can say I enjoyed was my drink which was served in a can. A case for Trading Standards I think.

Can’t go wrong with fresh fish and chips, in Stratford upon Avon. Enjoyed barnabys and location is great ideal for sitting outside. Fish and chips portion although pricey was very big and filling.

Very busy lunchtime due to Bank Holiday and motoring weekend. Strange ordering system and tables are cramped. Food arrived in five minutes, hot and plentiful if a little bland. Young staff working very hard.

Popped in about 6 pm. Was very quite. Had haddock and chips. The fish was large,well cooked and tasty. My wife's scampi and chips was well cooked and a generous serving. Service was quick and pleasant.

Waited 45 minutes for food, distinctly average fish and chips. Poorly organised. Take away is privatised over customers eating in hence the long wait. Will not be visiting again.

Wonderful service by all. one young lad(dark haired) was so busy and yet still had time to be kind and polite to everyone just excellent manners. Fish and chip we had were delicious.

My first visit for over a year and it has improved. Both fish and chips freshly cooked for us. Haddock very large and pretty tasty. My wife enjoyed her cod as well.

Staff are friendly enough but unfortunately the food sucks :(
