Staff are really friendly... Jack, Brad, and Izzy are so welcoming and friendly and very chatty and also funny to talk to.. make u feel so welcome and at easy xx

Absolutely fantastic breakfast, great location the chef Brad cam out to check everything was ok the wife even commented on how well the eggs were cooke as she can be fussy, bar staff were also very efficient, will now be going here when doing shopping in Warrington for the breakfast that sets you for the day.

We came here as a family for something to eat after a long day shopping in Warrington. We had a warm greeting from a lovely young lad name Bradley l. He was very polite and well mannered, he made sure we had everything we needed and interacted with my kids. We will be coming back again soon. Bradley is a credit to your company. Thank you again.

Staff very accommodating....however.no steak available....food very poor chicken burger...poor quality..bacon skimpy....not being greedy ..but there was about 10 chips on the plate...no one asked if meal was good...very disappointed....will not return.

Came here for a meet up with some friends and what can I say. The place is amazing the atmosphere was fab and the attitude of the staff was out of this world. Special mention to Bradley who went above and beyond to make sure we had everything and was recommending drinks to us. The food was great tasted amazing and very hot, place was clean and didn't wait to long for a table either. Will deffo visit again but make sure I bring more friends with me. Thanks for an amazing meal and drink all of us were made up. Would give it 10 stars if it could.

The food here is good. Proper country pub style food, but in a town centre. I used to go here a lot when I was younger. The building is so old. It's a pity the bear has had to be covered up - yes, in one of the snug areas to the right hand side, behind the wooden panel, is an 8 ft bear, who was affectionately nicknamed Grizz. But, alas, snowflakes think it's vile and food comes from supermarkets and not killing animals, so he is now covered.

Went into The Barley Mow for a quick drink on Saturday night. The pub itself is lovely and quaint but what made the experience so special was the staff. The barmaid who served us was called Fran and what a credit she is to that pub. She was kind, polite and funny and in really was a pleasure to deal with which is rare these days. It was nice to be made so welcome and greeted with a big smile. Give that girl a pay rise!!

They do a good fry up and why not a glass of lemonade with it.

This pub would have recieved no stars from our family but unfortunately there wasnt an option to do that. My family and I went to this pub to celebrate my birthday. We looked through the menu and decided on the 2 meals for £13 as we knew we were having desserts. It was a limited choice but we expected that as in most pubs with this type of deal it is, so no complaints there. The children's menu was good amd they both found their meal quickly. We decided on ours and I went to the bar to order. I was greeted by the most miserable barmaid I have ever come across, she gave me the impression that I was bothering her by coming to order food and drinks. After each meal I placed I got "is that it" we were sat infront of the bar and it was obvious that we were a family. She told me the price and asked was it cash or card? I said I hadn't finished my order to which I got a huff. I got the drinks and went back to our table. Within minutes we had food at the table, but it wasn't our order and it was removed and given to the correct family. I apologised as I had taken a bowl off the children's meal as it was the same order my son was having. Graciously the family didn't mind. Our food came out about 20 minutes later. The only meal that was edible was my sons, sausage, mash, peas and gravey. My daughters chicken breat burger was burnt, flattened to an inch of its life and the bun was burnt. The only thing she ate was her salad and waffle fries. Our beef burgers came out and I must admit it looked delicious, but that was the only thing that was delicious about it. The bun was burnt, so were the burgers. They were squashed so they were about 4 mm thick, the lettuce should have been condemned as it was all slimey and had a very yellow and brown colour. That was soon taken off. I was starving so I thought I will try it anyway, I cut it in half took a bite and I really wish I hadn't, it was absolutely foul. So like you do I tried to get the attention of a staff member which didn't work as they all seemed to either not hear me or said I will be back in a minute. Unfortunately that didn't happen. When they came to clear the table I told her how bad the meal was, explained the reasons why and I got " I'm sorry about that" great thanks hun. Desserts arrived ice cream for my son, 2 cheesecakes for us and we waited on the fruit jelly pot for my daughter. When that came out it was a squeezey pouch like you have for babies. I said on the menu it said a fruit jelly pot and obviously that wasn't. Apparently they don't do fruit pots any more and they did this. I asked her to change it for Ice-cream. Our cheesecake had no flavour at all the only good thing was the Ice-cream and the chocolate sauce. We left hungry and disappointed. Later that evening both myself and my daughter started with stomach pains and felt sick. Thankfully my daughter was OK as for myself I've spent most of the night on the toilet and today I'm feeling so ill. My friend suffered the same as I did spending all night on the toilet and is actually worse than I am. It ruined what had been a perfect day, the only nice thing was that I was with my children. Thos is just our experience and I wanted to share it with you. I have left many reviews and most have been really positive. I can honestly say this review is genuine. If you visit this pub to try for yourself you may have a totally different experience.

They don't serve American Pie but their toilets could sure do with a Don m-Clean.

We had fish and chips, burger, chicken salad, the other day and the food was very good and very friendly staff so will eat there again next time we visit Warrington cheers

Been today for a meal. Fabulous atmosphere wonderful service from young man at the bar and young lady waiting on. Would definitely recommend and will be returning

Not really a complaint but your website says your kitchen is open until 8pm. I came in at 7 and they said the kitchen is closed. I was quite devvod as I came from work for a wasted journey. What time does your kitchen normally close

Well before we even got food the male bar stuff with rude to multiple customers kicking trays behind the bar because someone asked how long there tea is going to be. He is shouting at other members of staff, he unprofessional. Waited over 40 mins for food then when it came didn’t even have a hand full of chips they been in the fryer 3 times. Burger was charcoal and the bacon was the same. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Not the first visit but first time to eat!. 2 full English breakfast and 2 pints £22! Bargain!!. Breakfast consisted of 2 sausages, 2 bacon, 2 eggs, beans, tomato, hash browns and toast! wow!!. was it the best cooked breakfast?? Hmmm probably not but for £7.49 it was decent and I would return for breakfast!. Opens at 1000hrs, very historical pub inside & out but overall a really good place to visit. Excellent "meal deals" 2 for £13.99 bargain lunch!!. Ok its pub grub but for many its perfect and for me and my son we enjoyed our visit!. There is some outside seating at the front and I believe a large courtyard at the rear, saw seats and tables stacked and assume it is for the pub!. Good selection of lagers, real ales and craft beers, overall a proper pub with large screen tv's clean toilets and a lot of history!!!.Located in the Centre of Warrington well worth a visit!!.

Can’t comment on food, pub very very dark. Was there all of 10 minutes, couldn’t do cocktails although on the menu and staff not very approachable

Went for breakfast, not great I am afraid, no Poached eggs available , scrambled or fried only, ordered 2 full breakfasts , Grilled tomato was cold, button mushrooms all 5 of them deep fat fried, bacon wasn't the greatest. Went because eaten in there before and it was lovely, shame not this time.

As always, the Barley Mow is a pleasure to visit. On this occasion, it was during the Warrington Pride Celebrations, but the service was still excellent and we had a "family table" outside so that our grandchildren could still take part in the activities. We had some very well kept beers, but didn't eat there. For visitors, this is a very interesting pub as it remains very much how it has been for centuries in appearance while having modern facilities and management.

Red wine came in a dirty glass and the texture was thicker than normal wine 🤢. I should have taken it back but I was so put off I didn’t want anything else but to leave. We sat outside and the gutter was just dripping all over the chair next to me so although it wasn’t raining I had a very bad experience

If you like Olde world pubs then this great for you, right in the centre of WARRINGTON they have a great selection of drinks available together with screens to watch matches on so you have a mixture of old and new.

fairly chilled out, not too busy but closed pretty promptly not long after 11. zip was ushered out relatively quickly so could have been a tad more accommodating but nice enough besides.

What a disappointment! Yes a very old pub but perhaps the fake books painted on the walls should have warned us. At least 3 of the dishes ordered were unavailable and from the size of the miniscule portions, the place was presumably running out of the plastic, tasteless food that it did have available.

Went to the bar to place my order, but the barman informed me that they didn't have what I wanted in the menu as it was sold out. No problem says I, I'll just go back to my table and tell my partner,any way we both go for the burgers,mine the triple with cheese, Maria asked for the single which I'm certain is on the menu . The barman informs me that they don't do the single burger ,no problem says me, I'm sure she can try the double . ( I am still confident that there is a single burger on the menu though) . I order a coffee for myself and a bottle of still water for my partner , the glass for the water is filthy with bits of lemon stuck inside. She takes it back to the very nice and friendly barman and replaced it with a clean one after picking up two more. The food arrives and I have to say that the burgers were absolutely top class, proper beef burgers . Unfortunately I can't say the same for the chips, I swear to Jeasus, they were pure white and I bit into one and it was still semi frozen and it was the same with my partner's. Would I go there again ? Yes for sure, of course that's if management would allow me after this review. Why would I go again? Well first of all I do believe in giving everyone a second chance, it just might have been an off day. Number two, it's a lovely place with a nice atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and helpful . Update, I've visited on a number of occasions since and I have to say things have improved a lot. I would recommend this fine establishment. Now I'll add an extra 🌟 Visited again today 03/12/2023 , it was fairly busy but the place was freezing. I did actually hear people complaining about how cold the place was.

Lovely pub for meet ups and food.

Been many times to this pub but this time was well below the normal standard. While the food ordered ( chicken tikka masala - one with chip and one with rice) was nice unfortunately the portions were more ‘child sized’ and not felt to be worth the cost. I would not be returning till after the Christmas menu is removed.

Day out with friend had a great lunch, locals friendly and welcoming. Recommend the chicken bacon burger, definately going back old world charm in a jacobean setting...perfect thank you.

What a really great place to enjoy a drink and company. It is rich in aged character. The service was pleasant and cheerful, and the whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable. The food was no better and certainly no less than other gastro pubs. I would certainly recommend the Barley Mow to anyone and everyone.

Didn't go in for food, but plenty of people enjoying a late breakfast. Great to see the place busy. Beer is excellent and friendly staff. Keep the high street busy and visit pubs like this one, with loads of character.

Food was unreal! Massive portions, we ordered the spicy beef burger and a normal burger with 3 sides, we ended up taking the sides home as we was full! Service was good and the wait for food was just enough time! The only problem was that their soda pump was off and had to use bottles of pop. Definitely recommend if your wanted a quick lunch after doing a bit of shopping around town! They have out door seating and in door seating, Tables were clean and condiments had a factory seal on which was good! Helmand and heinz.

First visit to this fabulous "old pub" really enjoyed our light lunch and wraps and of course a drink. Spotlessly clean - Shell & Tina provided an excellent customer experience - wish we lived nearer for the "Ghost Spirit events" as it fascinates us - such history from 1561- highly recommend and we will be back thanks xx

We came for lunch as a family of 5 on a Saturday afternoon. We received great food and great service from Tina, Shell and the team. We all ordered the 5 small plates. All 25 plates came out at the same time and in the right order and empty plates were cleared quickly.

Great. We came in looking to watch the open and it was possible to switch one of the screens, which was very welcome. We only intended to stay for one drink but thanks to Justine we stayed for several hours, with drinks and food. Hugely refreshing to find a pub that looks after their customers so well. One of Warrington's oldest pubs dating back to the 1500's. Old Tudor style interior with dark wooden beams all over the pub part open plan with a tavern feel about it. Nice place to sit down for a drink inside and outside on the Market Pl to escape the hussle and bustle of the Golden Sq. Good hearty food options with a decent selection of beer, although the bitter's and ale's are not always available which is a bit of a shame. All in all a pleasant pub to visit.

We come on Saturday for the pride event it's was an amazing experience,they had some props out for us to take photos with friendly staff who got involved with it all and dressed up. Fantastic prices well done.

Looked forward to visiting given its longevity and heritage. A gorgeous façade in white and black is delightful. Arriving at a sunny Sunday morning opening time we took seats in the courtyard. But also saw the atmospheric interior, including when ordering at the counter. Breakfast fare was good, accompanied with coffee and cappuccino plus lots of water. An enjoyable and sustaining beginning to the day.

Best cheesy garlic bread - actual bread that isn't a pizza size and lots of cheese Good service and good food but cheesy garlic bread is the best and the gin is always good
