Great location for walking the Pendle hill, and sculpture trail. Food was excellent both dinner and breakfast. Let down by noise, we were here Monday and Tuesday night. In room 3, music boomed through from the pub downstairs. We had to get out of bed and ask for it to be turned down, there were no customers downstairs just staff. Then it started up again at 6.50am. Not exctally the quiet retreat it was advertised as.

A brilliant restaurant and venue. We had the Pork Belly and Duck which was absolute heaven! ... Lovely pub and really nice atmosphere but unfortunately not the best breakfast. The offering is plenty but it seems a big part of the food (full English) is deep fried ? The hash brown had a strange taste and seemed to have been deep fried with possibly the black pudding as both were very overdone but somehow mushy and the hash brown was a really unusual colour. We’ve eaten here plenty of times and the food and service is very good and the service today was great, unfortunately we probably wouldn’t return for breakfast.

Well after a few lil walks I. The area we fancied a feed and thought we’d try our luck here on a busy Easter Sunday, we sat at a table for two in the bar and were told to order at the bar but the friendly staff approached us and took our orders, the food arrived promptly and was well presented and very tasty, we had to ask for condiments as the young girl serving was extremely busy. The mow was heaving but had a nice environment and everyone was extremely friendly even the two cockerpoos trying to get my dinner but this still made me smile only reason it’s a 4 and not a 5 was the heat inside but after a few windows were opened it was perfect

A friend had booked a table for mothers day, and we ate on the Saturday evening to avoid the rush of the actual day. The dinner was after a long walk in the beautiful local area. There was 4 adults, and the food and service was exceptional. Our original table was in a corner and the staff considered it to be a bit of a squeeze so they had decided to move us to a larger area. The place was really busy and very warm and cosy in lovely rustic surroundings. The staff member that took our order didnt even need to write anything down !! All memorised, which was an achievement in itself. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, large portions served of very tasty food, great service and we would not hesitate to return or recommend to others.

We stayed at this lovely pub / restaurant for three nights. Situated in the beautiful village of Barley at the foot of Pendle it was ideal for visiting friends in the area. We dined here twice and really enjoyed it and the breakfasts were very good too. Only slight negative is the car park is very small and we struggled for somewhere to safely leave our vehicle sometimes. Overall a very good experience.

This is a lovely venue and doesn't deserve slating because on many previous occasions, it's been generally very good in terms of food, service and ambience. I've left a balanced review of "4" only because of previous experiences here, but very disappointed in service and attitude on our latest Sunday afternoon visit. We ordered a starter to share and 2 main meals, one of which was a roast beef dinner.... and a bottle of wine and a couple of pints. It was pretty good, though few vegetables. The Yorkshire pudding was good, but dry with minimal gravy on the plate. I asked a waitress if I could have a little more gravy. She came back with a jug of gravy. All good! We later asked for the bill. £85 , but hey ho, it was good. Then I noticed an item on the bill for £2.95 Gravy!! Seriously? I questioned it with the manager, who's only response was "are you refusing to pay it?"..... Too right!! They seriously need to consider where they are heading.

Not a great experience. Waited 50 minutes for order to be taken (even though staff were standing around) and another 30 minutes for food to arrive. Barley Burger was overcooked (microwaved from frozen?) with small amount of braised beef on top. Lebanese lamb clearly defrosted as still cold in places. Asked for dessert menu which didn’t arrive until requested second time. Worst of all - member of staff began enthusiastically sweeping floor and moving chairs whilst diners still eating!! Then left pile of sweepings next to table before going to serve customers. We wont be returning anytime soon.

Not good to be honest. I booked this for my mums birthday and it wasn't the standard of service or experience I expected. I email before my stay to ask if I need to book a table for the roast dinner that came with our stay package and was told no. When we arrived the only time they could fit us in to eat was 18.30. The hall way leading to the rooms needed a good hover. Then when we came to eat we all wanted the roast dinner because that's what the stay was sold as and there were no roasts left we then had to wait 2 hours for our meal. The manager apologised and said we could come back for a free stay and he would knock £60 off the bill. When checking out the next day he said he would email a receipt showing that he had taken off the £60 from our bill and confirming that we could have a free bed and breakfast stay in the future. I haven't received the receipt or the confirmation of a free stay in the future. So I emailed saying that I haven't received receipt or confirmation of free stay and have had no reply upto now. Not good enough.

We stayed on 30th and 31st December. The service we received was 100% from the gent (who I didn’t get his name) at breakfast to all the waiting on staff. New Years Eve at the bar / restaurant seemed manic from 2pm onwards but you could tell that Will and Toby had it all in hand and they did a marvellous job. We eat twice in the restaurant and the food was delicious. Barley Mow is in a really beautiful village with plenty of walks – the Sculpture Trail is good and also the walk around the reservoirs. Con: I never expect our room to be cleaned on a 2 day stay but would have liked the tea/coffee/milk replenished. We will look to stay again soon. Janet

The Barley Mow is an extremely relaxing venue with friendly staff ,lovely food and log fires which were a blessing with all the rain . Brilliant location for walking up Pendle Hill.

Just spent a week in Barley and ate at the Barley Mow 3 times and son and daughter-in-law ate there while we babysat, Have to say food, staff and pub itself was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble, everymeal was great especially the seabass and split pea which was on the specials board. Also a big thank you to Nicola who served us on our last night she went out of her way to make it a special night for my birthday. Would recommend if you are out that way to call for a bite to eat, we'll be back.

Nice, smart dining pub/hotel. Attentive, pleasant service and excellent quality, freshly prepared food. We had homemade cheese and onion pie, and gammon and eggs. Reasonably priced and nicely presented.

This is the second time I have left disappointed! Food was bland, everybody commented about the pizzas having very little cheese and toppings on them. We ordered some drinks after our meal which took 45 minutes to come! There were two other small tables in and nobody at the bar so the hold up was unnecessary. We complained to the staff but they weren’t bothered at all and was merely apologetic. The restaurant had an awful sewage smell as well just to top it off. Will not be returning.

Really good cafe, go regularly. Great choice of things to buy. Staff very helpful.

We went to the cafe bistro for dinner and I could say 1 nice thing about the cafe the staff were nice and that is it. The sausages were cooked in the microwave and the jacket potatoes cooked in the microwave with a cheese slice melted on top. I can honestly say it is the worst cafe we have been to especially with the premium price tag. We paid £37 for food warmed up in the microwave!
