Went here today for lunch, had a lovely tender steak and chips, cooked very well, good value. Was also nice to be somewhere where the music wasn't overwhelming and could have a conversation! Hadn't been in here for years, but will definitely return soon!

DO NOT GO HERE. Went in for a nice family meal this Sunday (20/10) and we will not be going back. To begin with the tables were sticky and half the water glasses were dirty. The kids meals then came out covered in rock salt making them inedible. The manager reluctantly took one back to the kitchen to be replaced. The chef can’t seem to read the word ‘vegan’ when making a chilli but the manager did catch that one before bringing it to the table. That did however leave my sister waiting for a meal that didn’t come out until most of us had finished and that was completely tasteless and inedible. Whatever batter they use for the onion rings and fish is vile and pink (?) and the fish itself is watery and bland. To top off the entire experience the manager managed to burn my 6month old nephew. She brought out his chicken nuggets and chips - which were red hot and straight out of the fryer - and put them down on the table in front of him. Reggie grabbed them and let out a scream. We weren’t able to settle him and when we refused to pay for several of the meals the attitude of the manager was appalling (the name on the receipt was Claire but I’m not sure if that was the manager or the young girl serving us). All she could do was huff, roll her eyes, tut at us and say it wasn’t her fault - how much common sense do you have to have to know not to put red hot food where a baby can reach it?! But there we go. In short, inedible food and terrible service from the management.

Went for a family meal…left with a burnt 6-month-old and hungry. Manger was rude and incompetent which ended with my baby nephew burning his hands. When we complained about most of the food being inedible and my poor nephew all the manager could do was scoff, roll her eyes and huff. Will never be going back and I recommend you don’t go either.

The food was tasty, and I finished my lunch. However, I was deeply disappointed at how much the restaurant has been neglected since my last visit a few years back. The tables were sticky, and menus were dirty. The wallpaper was chipped and shabby. Rubbish on the floor, boxes of stock stacked in a corner, clearly not temporarily! The vinegar bottles all had sediment in the bottom, which the server was completely unaware of (shows a lack of checks and regular cleaning of table condiments). I had to use sachets. It was such a shame for a previously thriving pub that used to be difficult to get a table. I won't be trying again....

We arranged to have our mums wake following her funeral at The Barley Mow and we were not disappointed one bit. We spoke to a lovely lady Clare a few weeks before who made organising it very straight forward. Date, time, roughly how many, buffet, tea & coffee, biscuits. On the day we could not have been happier, practically all the food was eaten, all our family and friends appeared to enjoy a plateful each. Clare and the staff that were working on the day were brilliant. They accommodated all our guests inside and out in the garden, collecting glasses and empty plates, nothing too much trouble. They even kindly placed our huge photo memory boards of mum on tables for us. We cannot thank you enough Clare and team. You took away all the stress of arranging a funeral wake/reception. We would highly recommend The Barley Mow not just for such occasions but in general as we have eaten there loads of times plus it was our mums favourite place to go for lunch, another reason why there was no hesitation when organising mums wake there. Thank you all so much from all the family x

We came here on a Sunday as a group of 5. As we had a reservation, we got seated very quickly. We ordered our drinks and food within minutes of us arriving, the waitress didn't inform us of any delays with orders. The place wasn't busy at all. We waited for our food for 1.5 hours (!!!). We started to check the status of our order after about 40 minutes of waiting and every time got told that our food was "being dished up". The food arrived at our table lukewarm, the Yorkshire pudding was burnt. The pork with crackling (as advertised on the menu) was super chewy, the crackling was like warm rubber. Absolutely terrible experience, not even an apology was offered to us. We will avoid this pub in future.

Bar staff attentive to replenishing drinks at the table which I love. Soda water was free a few days earlier but then I was charged 20p. Can't really complain at that price though. The mash & veg were ok, but the liver was definitely not calves and we were sure it was pigs liver, which is so much stronger. The liver was also totally over cooked as it was rock hard. The server checked with the chef, who responded that the packet said it was calves, but she would check with the butcher! An experienced eye should see the difference even when the liver is raw! Nothing was taken off the bill, which was even more disappointing! Certainly won’t be revisiting. ☹️

I kept digging in, thinking maybe the herbs are just sitting on top, but no, it was definitely too herby, and I'm a big lasagne lover. It was supposed to be served with salad and garlic bread, but I only got a few green leaves, no tomato, no cucumber. Then to top it all, the garlic bread was garlic ciabatta, no no not to my taste. Where do I start, we came for a roast, they had no children’s menu, the food took forever to come, when it finally arrived it was honestly disgusting and inedible. £18 they charge for a roast which I think is quite a high price, but I’m quite happy to pay that if the quality is there but it wasn’t. The lamb was so fatty I couldn’t eat any of it, the broccoli I couldn’t even get my knife through it. We expressed we were unimpressed and they actually argued with us about it, the chef came out and was incredibly rude and absolutely filthy, as was the staff I was genuinely shocked at how they handled the feedback I would never expect to be spoken like that as a paying customer, they pretty much accused us of just coming out not to pay for food which was just ridiculous. It’s one thing to serve terrible food but the level of customer service, was just the icing on the cake. Avoid, avoid, avoid - unless you like awful food and even worse service. Unfortunately, 3 of the dishes we ordered arrived luke warm at best and were cold very quickly. The vegan salad option one of our party ordered arrived with grated cheese on (which clearly isn’t vegan). It also took absolutely ages for the ketchup one of us ordered to be brought to the table and then after asking for the bill we waited for what seemed like an eternity. We were served what I can only describe as a gourmet range Bird's Eye fish fillet. Amazingly it was still frozen inside. Unbelievable! I was told the price of fish has gone up". Righto....It was replaced by a terrible pizza a 9 year old could...

Staffs were excellent - no doubts about it. My word the food was extremely horrible. On Sat 11 Feb-23 we went for lunch and ordered chicken burger and chicken salad. In both dishes the chicken was so hard (extremely overcooked) and we really struggled to eat. Chef must be terrible in cooking chicken, Please avoid chicken dishes if you can.

Visited with family and friends. Not many people in, now I know why. Food priced for adults main around £14-£16. Wouldn’t have minded but non of the food was home cooked. Can get better in a Wetherspoons for half the price. On the plus side...

Was a lovely lunch. Would have preferred my salad to have had no dressing on as requested, but the rest was ok

Went for a works dinner, and the alarm bells probably should have gone off when we walked in the week before Christmas and there is only one table of 4 sat down eating, the rest of the pub was completely empty....That was obviously a sign...

I asked Mark, at the Barley Mow to provide food for a "wake". The result was astoundingly good. Mark couldn't do enough, he was very sympathetic, and made organising the event as painless as possible. The food provided was very good quality, variety, and quantity....

I would like to give 5 stars because it is an independent and cosy place but the service let me down a bit. Lovely people but it just took ages between get a table, get a drink and get food. I don't really get it because these were only 2 tables of people and the rest was empty, I don't dare to think when is full. Once you get drinks and food is all good but otherwise you will wait a long time! Hopefully the service will improve to attract more people

Staff were pleasant, it's a pity that 2 of our first choice from the menu were not available. The pub is dog friendly Which is a bonus. Yes we would visit the pub again.

They have a good menu and food is very good. You may have to be patient as they only had one person who was taking orders and serving drinks.

Sunday roast!!!Chicken overcooked and chewy potatoes heavy and not crispy. Green beans chewy and inedible and swimming in gravy. Carrots good though!!! Decided not to have sweet!!! Won't be back
