We rang through to let the cafe know that we were a coach of 26 and only had a one hour stop. The staff were extremely friendly and organised. They had one serving, one doing drinks and one on the till which worked really well. All passengers were fed and watered and off we went.

Nice little spot, we’ve been going for years as a good middle ground to eat and catch up. Lovely garden centre with a cafe full of plenty of options for all. Love that it’s dog friendly. Polite staff and nice food & drink options. Convenient location for us.

Travelled here for a coffee and scone, arrived at 12.30, only 2 cheese scones available. When I asked if they had any fruit scones I was sharply told we only have the cheese ones that you can see! I then enquired with a different lady why they were sold out so quickly, I just wanted to know if that’s how it always was or was today an exception, she politely told me that they always sell out before lunch time. Whilst we were talking the first staff member spoke to my husband and very rudely said” why is she still asking, the answers not gonna change,, there’s still only 2 cheese scones” We bought 2 biscotti cake which couldn’t have been thinner slices if she tried! All other cakes were much larger then what she sliced off for us.

Apart from being a great garden centre this site also includes a super cafe. Where better to start the day with a Full English breakfast than Bardills. Friendly staff and good quality food well cooked. There's a tempting array of cakes to drool over while waiting to order and pay. Why not start your day with a Bardills Breakfast? You won't regret it.

We used to really enjoy lunch here but it’s really gone downhill in recent years. The carvery used to be delicious but no longer exists. There is no children’s menu, and they also had no fruit shoots/cordial etc. The young lady who served us was very helpful but limited in how much she could help. In the end we ordered an adult jacket potato to share between our two children but it was actually very small with a tiny pot of beans. My panini was not a panini - it was a slightly warmed chewy baguette. Partner’s fried breakfast was okay. Overall it’s a shame it’s changed.

We were driving past and decided to visit the garden centre. We got something to drink from here while there. There is seating outside which is nice in good weather as well as some seating inside. The place isn't overly modern it is bit dated but there is nothing wrong with that, it seems to have a nice atmosphere. I had a chocolate milkshake which wasn't what I expected or generally had before. It was a glass full ice cubes, which had the chocolate syrup put in and milk poured in a mixed. This was nice though. The food smelled nice.

It has been a few years since I last visited here and it seems that it is stuck in a time trap, nothing seems to have changed, I suppose that if the management are happy with it then run with it but a little updating/tlc to my mind would enhance it. Staff were polite and service was quick but coffee was poor.

Staff as i said a few years ago are not very customer friendly, again no smiles or good morning and just drop the tray with food on the table, no enjoy etc. Prices not too bad. Was busy. Do need to have a better heating system as i was cold and we were not near the door.

Open and welcoming new customers later in the afternoon, this cafe was a delight to step into. Styled as a large log cabin, it was spacious, clean, tastefully decorated, with all the signs of having had a great deal of attractive food earlier in the day. At 4pm, we were still able to successfully order a panini lunch with salad, followed by a date and walnut scone. Everything was good, tea alongside pleasant too. The counter was topped with close to 30 different syrups. Menus discreetly surrounded us in the cafe too. It was lovely and we will certainly be going again. Fully recommended.

First,y, let me say that the food here is fantastic. If you’re looking for a nice carvary, the this could be the place for you...... BUT...... and it’s a big but, you will need to be prepared for rough ride. You’ll need to battle through the illogical “pay here... queue there... get your drinks here” obstacle course before you get anywhere near your food.To make matters worse, you need to move from one end of the cafe to the other as you pass through each obstacle: made much worse by the tightly packed tables which means the only way through the cafe is via a circular route, apologising to the poor diners as you climb over them. There Are obviously too many tables for the space available. Obviously, more tables is better for business but there is a limit and it is obviously too full for comfort.Having a more traditional approach to getting your food would make things much easier. A one-directional get-food then pay-for-food approach would mean there’s a one way stream of traffic that would make moving through the obstacle course. And finally, the biggest “but” of all, every member of staff was miserable. The chef who served us our meat from the carvery was particularly off putting. I felt very much like I was irritating him by being a customer. I’m not sure who,s bad mood was rubbing off on whom, but the whole place had a grumpy atmosphere which was written all over the faces off the staff. So, such a shame. The food is fantastic but the place, and the staff were a big disappointment. Such a shame.

There seems to be more than one TripAdvisor for this location, but I wanted to comment on the shop, not the cafe, which I didn't go into.I purchased some potted plants and went to the till. An older woman was serving and wasn't friendly but gave some advice about a plant which was dry and needed soaking. However, the card machine didn't work straight away and she said what it might be etc. The card eventually went through but the woman's attitude deteriorated to the point where she didn't speak to me. She ignored my thank you and byes, leaving the other two staff near the till to reply for her, no eye contact, it was just a strange and unpleasant experience which would put me off going again, despite the plants looking great on the day. I've read other comments in the past about this and you are left wondering why they regard being polite and good manners so low down on customer service when they obviously have the knowledge and product. It is how the customer is left feeling that makes you decide whether you want to return or not, the product and the knowledge is at every garden centre in the country. The other 2 staff at the till were pleasant and interacted how you would expect, in a friendly and courteous way.

You would not expect to wait that long if it was freshly cooked to order.Organised chaos, staff stood around, plates and cups left on tables for at least an hour, a shadow of its former self.Nice staff, just not been taught how to run a cafe efficiently and correctly, unless the idea is to close it down!Been going here for years, but no longer! I found at an off peak time that it was pleasant enough, the service was adequate, I had time for only a teacake (average fare) and latte (good) so can't comment on the breakfast or carvery It was certainly tight for room and I felt it to be on the dark side unless you sat next to a window. So I would return more for the garden side than the café, as I found it to be less welcoming than the other one I can get to by public transport.

We have been here several times. The food is snack type cafe style such as Baked potatoes and fry up. It's nice and comfortable with lovely staff and makes a trip to the garden centre so much more enjoyable

Always enjoyed coming here and have done since my kids were small (now in their thirties) The last few times service is slow and although some of the girls really are lovely a few chat away and leave your food on the side. We waited an hour for breakfast and this was because the girl dishing our breakfast up was talking, we did complain to the manager who responded with 'she's having a bad day ' when we said ok but our food was sat in the side she could have asked someone to pop it over . Her response? Well it's hot isn't it and walked off Sorry not bothering again when there is places Close by where you feel valued as a customer Sorry Bardills thirty years of custom down the drain

My wife and I popped in whilst on a trip. The restaurant was full and it was a bit difficult to make our way to the counter through the conglomeration of tables and chairs. We ordered and (it did take a fair bit of time before our order, panini, arrived) then had to find a table. There were some free but had dirty plates etc on them. I eventually cleared one table and took the plates through to the kitchen so we could have a seat.My wife's chocolate cake was unfortunately a bit dry which disappointed her. My panini was very good and I recommend itOverall food good but bit chaotic in restaurant.

Stopped here for a whiff on a long grind down the M1. Planned a light lunch but stuck to a coffee and cake, so underwhelming was the ambiance. The place is far too crowded, getting between tables at a busy time - an obstacle course. There was insufficient separation between counter and tables, for a start. As a result, you can watch the queue shuffle along the counter, backsides rubbing across the shoulders of the poor schmucks wedged into the adjacent seating. Heaven knows how all the punters would get out if someone shouted 'Fire!', a prospect made more likely by the fact this caff is an overgrown wooden chalet. The coffee and cake were okay, but took an age to queue and purchase. This gave all the more time to wonder at the 'system' in operation at the counter for those seeking a carvery. It appeared to work like this - 'I would like a carvery, please'. 'You need to get a ticket at the till and then queue again with the ticket to get your meal' Whilst some regulars obviously had this figured out and annoyed those queuing to pay by barging in for tickets at the till before joining the queue, the uninitiated were enduring the slow stutter down the line twice, lengthening everyone else's wait..Then came the toilets, which had the look and feel of a portacabin at a lower division football ground, yet, surprisingly was actually brick built, albeit on a budget. Nice enough cake, but otherwise an endurance test, and definitely not a relaxing oasis to provide relief from the motorway.

Cafe ok. Stopped serving food at three? The fish pond with small water feature near the koi looked very sad for itself. Felt sorry for the poor fish swimming in green water trying to get oxygen from the surface :(

I haven't been here for a while and WOW what a treat it was. I brought my family for a look round the garden centre and decided to have lunch in the coffee shop. I was very surprised at the variation of food and it was obvious that everything had been home cooked to a very high standard. We had the carvery and my little boy had a childs portion which was fantastic and a much healthier option to the usual offerings at other outlets. We polished off our meal with a piece of homemade cake. YUMMY we will definitely be visiting soon.

I could not believe the last review I read .I have known Pam for many years. The cafe at Bardills is outstanding.Super clean and friendly staff and gorgeous food using local produce.Pam goes out of her way to make sure if possible food is locally sourced. She organises day trips for interest and also to check out areas of interest ie the wonderful Notts and Leics cheesesWhoever wrote the review and wanted cutlery soaked in vinegar has a real problem.

There seemed to be no leadership presence in all aspects of my visit to this cafe - making for an all round bad experience. On arrival about a third of the tables were seated, and all the others had dirty pots on them. We cleared a sticky table, sat down and read the menu. If we weren't hungry and 30 miles from home we'd have walked out by now.We ordered food at the till after fighting through the tables, there was no obvious 'escape route' through the cafe. The lady took my order one item at a time, popping into the kitchen between each of my requests to check they had what I wanted. She then took my drinks order one at a time also. None of the drinks vessels were clean and I could hardly see through my glass of water. The whole order process took about 8 minutes despite the fact there wasn't a queue! She handed me the receipt and [I quote], she said, "Enjoy your food when you get it."30 minutes later.I took my cutlery to the table, and upon inspection found that every single piece of cutlery was covered in a film of grease, or perhaps germs. I asked for some boiling water and vinegar and cleaned them myself on the napkins at the table. Again, we wanted to leave but had planned to come here and saw it through out of desperation. My gran and I had the meat lasagne. The were both burnt on top, overly greasy and badly seasoned - or not seasoned at all. My brother had a jacket potato. It seems it had been cooked, sliced open and left open under a hot lamp as it was dry and hard throughout. We were confused when his toppings came on the side!? Why did he pay £6 to make it himself? My mum ordered the "grilled southern chicken with mayonnaise and bread" - what turned up seemed to be a supermarket quality chicken burger that was over cooked, presented dry on a roll and no mayonnaise. Perhaps it should have been sold to us as a burger, and presented like one too. I was again confused when the salad was on the side, this is normally the base of a burger which protects the bread. The staff seemed to not know their roles and were completely unmotivated. I saw the two waitresses ignoring the two thirds of the cafe's tables that were full of dirty pots. When the table next to us was eventually cleared (approximately 30 minutes after the guests left) the pots were taken away and about 5% of the table was quickly wiped with a dry cloth.I saw the chef use the same toilets as the customers and hardly rinse his hands at the sink next to me. I doubt he washed them properly in the kitchen either.I normally give somewhere a second chance, everyone has off-day's, right? However, at Bardills I feel as if I have seen enough. Drop the mic.

So you want to meet a mate outside Nottingham, with easy access and not spend a fortune then Bardills is for you. Regular carvery menu plus all the usual suspects but home made, so quality you get quality food at a fair price. When you're done take a few mins to wander around the garden centre which is full of treats!

Stopped here for a coffee between house viewing and decided to have breakfast too. Food was nice and comes with good selection. Times are quite strict for food it seems with certain things you have to order before half 11 and others only after 12.

We eat out a lot. Bardills does not pretend to be a fancy restaurant but it serves good honest food, fantastic breakfasts and has one of the consistently best carveries in the area. The girls behind the counter are lovely and always good humoured. You can pay a lot more for a lot less, and Bardills is an independent garden centre, which sadly is quite a rarity these days.

Walked in for something to eat and walked out again! The last post is an apt name as that's what would be playing if you ate from this pub. The place was filthy with an entire table for 4 covered in empty glasses. Sauces smeared all over another table and food all over the floor. We managed to find a table not covered in empties or uneaten food and found a hair stuck to the inside of the menu. I'm not particularly fussy but it doesn't take a genius to know that hygiene isn't near the top of the pub's priorities. In order to avoid salmonella, we left and lived to moan another day. Don't even let your dog eat here.

Came here with my family. The food overall was good, has soup for starter and burger for main. But they didn't bring out me and my brother's mains and side salads and we only got our side of chips. They forgot a lot of my family's orders aswell. The staff were very apologetic about the situation and gave us free drinks.

The Manor at Toton is absolutely fantastic! Since the new owners took over the pub is going from strength to strength. Their food is first class and they put on top quality live music every week. Well worth a visit if you're in the area! Pre booking for their Sunday dinners is essential as they book up fast!
