The food was good to very good, the service super friendly, great for a hotel bar/pub. The interior is conservatively furnished with partly antique furniture, very cosy.

Come here regularly, but just lately the service is lacking! Long waits for coffee, tables not cleared, or wiped clean! It's like an apathy has taken over! Service definitely needs improvement!!! Please!!!

I come here every day and have never had a problem.. Until now! Why are the tables always sticky and not cleaned between each customer? There seem to be plenty of staff milling around but the tables go unwashed!!! I sat at a table recently covered in pieces of food and beer splashed all over it! My drink was bought to the table, the waitress removed a piece of lettuce but did not come back to clean the table!

We were only here for part of a midweek afternoon in March so maybe the impression is not a fair reflection of peak times. The oldish hotel has some character and it has a quirky feel inside with rooms bars restaurant etc leading off a kind of atrium. But the bar and pavement level terrace out the front has been modernised a bit without much imagination or effect. With so much alternative choice up the street and nearby I don't think we would come back here.

Food piping hot and very tasty. Excellent presentation of the food, good attention to detail and the bar staff who took the food and drink order remembered our drinks round when we wanted more drinks. The bar is very friendly, relaxed and I would definitely go here again with my friends.

Great position for watching the world go by. Sat outside this lively hotel in the glorious Devon sunshine. Although we didn't eat there, the food served to diners looked deliciously inviting

I really don't like places where you have to do everything yourself. Here, this includes getting your own drinks, including seconds, getting your own cutlery, an d ordering your own food. This wouldn't be quite so bad if they were charging bar prices, but they weren't. Not a place I would go again, fir anything, I'm afraid

Unfortunately they seem to believe that quantity is preferable to quality. The pre-buttered toast was soggy and made from the cheapest and thinest bread that it must be possible to obtain.

I had the blue cheese pancakes. Disgusting! Why put it on the menu? Swimming in oil from the melted blue cheese. My partner had a homecooked ham sandwich with barely any ham inside, though the chutney was nice but very little of it. Over priced. Very slow in serving the coffee. We waited a good 15 minutes. Totnes restaurants seem to think that you need to loose weight!

We visited the Seven Stars on a Sunday morning, in early February, for a late breakfast (11.15am). However, once I was able to get the attention of one of the members of staff behind the counter (they were busy chatting and weren't interested in greeting my arrival) we were told that they had finished breakfast. However, we did not see any signs stating what time breakfast was served until.

Called in on a Friday night after work and sat outside watching the world go by. Had a little bite to eat. Totnes is a bit alternative so people watching can be quite fun. Nice place for chilling after work

Ate here the other night. Food was not great and well overpriced. The prices for a glass of wine make your eyes water too. Seven stars looks like it's getting much worse after a few very good years. No idea why

Four of us ate here on the 18th February 2014 and we all had a ploughman’s, two Stilton and ham and two Cheddar and ham. The plates where delivered and there was no bread and when we ASKED they brought some out, if we hadn't asked we were all convinced we wouldn't had got any. The cheese portion was tight but OK, however the ham was a joke as it was no bigger than the palm of your hand, when we asked about it were we told that’s it by the waiter! The ambience here is good and we've eaten and recommend the Royal Seven Stars to loads of people, this will now stop. What we got tasted fine. I would have preferred to have paid a pound more and got a real ploughmans.

We visited the Flavel for the screening of King Lear direct from London. This was superb but the cafe wasn't open when we turned up and we couldn't even get a cup of coffee during the twenty minute break as only alcoholic drinks or two soft drinks were available at the bar. It didn't spoil our evening but we needed the caffiene at the time and couldn't get it

Strange but quaint place to get to. Be prepared for a staircase, a handrail on both sides, and you'll need it to, to climb upstairs. Once upstairs, we were approached by a smiling member of staff, who said, "Sit where you like." The floor slopes, but once seated, it seems you forget. We all had Devon cream & jam scone with a cup of coffee each. Wow, the scone freshly made earlier, was warm. It just melted in your mouth. Once you got the jam & cream on, or is it cream & jam. My aunt & I had a latte & my husband & uncle had a cappuccino. Stand carefully for the loo, you may fall. There is only one unisex toilet. We paid and left. Back down the staircase again....the restaurant is above a shop, which is situated by the museum. Not for disabled people..though I made it with my walking stick. No car parking.

Awesome. Don’t judge a book by its cover. I arrived late evening for work over a couple of days. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful from getting me a taxi late evening at the train station to helping me get to my work venue in the morning. I had arrived past restaurant hours but the staff were more than happy to prepare food if I had wanted. I was also given a local delicacy from a local. I’m normally a poor sleeper but slept so well. Whilst the rooms at first appearance look a little dated the bed is so so comfy. The room also spotlessly clean. The question is - what’s more important to you - a great nights sleep or a sterile environment with mod cons? Sadly the first morning I didn’t have chance to sample the breakfast- I didn’t have time to wait. They have a sign saying ‘We don’t serve fast food. We serve fresh food as fast as we can”. Suffice to say I ordered my breakfast for the following morning before I went to bed so it was ready for me when I needed it. Now for the highlight DINNER. I eat a lot and this is definitely one of the best meals I had in a long time. Not the usual processed pub food. The main(stuffed chicken with root veg and dauphinois potatoes was delicious. I never order dessert but felt I had to - the main was so good. The sticky toffee pudding did not disappoint. Overall a really great stay. Thanks so much

Staff was rude when they got our order wrong and then correct it after a bit of telling them but the was going to refuse and service that day was not good. Was over charged with a coffee and cake we didnt have as an extra 7 pounds , Other times been good. Food nice.
