BAR 31 in Southwark

I had an unpleasant experience at Bar 31 on 18/10/2024. I went there to meet my friend and was waiting for her to finish her work so we could enjoy some drinks . So I took a sit to make sure my friend see where I’m as later we planned to move inside. A lady in a red outfit approached me to ask if I wanted any drinks. I explained that I was waiting for my friend. However, after 20 minutes, she returned and told me that I couldn't sit there without ordering something. I replied that I wouldn’t be drinking anything until my friend arrived. She then gave me a look that made me feel unwelcome, so I decided to wait for my friend outside. We eventually went to another bar, which was a much better experience. Never come back there and wont recommend on my social media.

I really enjoyed the cocktails was the best,the service was amazing 🤩 Alex and her colleague was so helpful and polite,i did make mistake whit my reservation instead of book on 52 floor i booked at bar 31 but Alex quickly resolved the problem,she was so kind and professional, in a 15min i already have my table on 52 floor.I will back again!!! quite a good pub, the food was such a small portion, it was very tasty though. Service Is great, Same as Atmosphere, but this pub is Very good, 4 stars definitely.

Tourist Advice: Bar 31 is on the ground is not a see-sight site.

I visited Bar31 this evening and I wasn't disappointed at all. Warm welcome, excellent service and tasty cocktails. Definitely will be back in Bar31! Lovely spot. Can't wait to have a bit more of free time and spend it in your cute terrace sipping your cocktail! Or two!

After my visit to this bar, I can confidently say it was pretty average. Despite it being Valentine's Day, the place was almost empty - closing at 22 😂, which surprised me as I expected some liveliness. Unfortunately, I didn't feel the cozy atmosphere usually associated with such places. Additionally, the prices were completely disproportionate to the quality of service and the atmosphere in the bar. I hope that in the future, the owners will take steps to improve the quality of service and create a more enjoyable atmosphere for their customers. People ordered usually one beer 🍺 and few minutes later they were gone.. that's not good at all..

Cosy bar and casual service but hits the spot if you want to visit the area.

False advertising. We thought we were booked for a rooftop bar as written on the site but we found ourselves on the ground floor in an ordinary bar with overpriced drinks. In addition, it was impossible to leave otherwise it was £15 per person with the card. I do not recommend at all.

Should be a bit more special being at the Shard

We didn't book so we're seated in one of there "Chrisrmas chalets" rather than at a table . My husband is a big man and watching him perch on the tiny narrow seat whilst destroying the carefully placed Christmas decorations was just too much!!! We had a sickly sweet cocktail in-between the mountain goat manoeuvres to stay seated and eventually went in search of a decent bar . Style over substance with out the style !

They had made a nice effort with the miniature ski huts to sit in. But the drink options were limited and overpriced in my opinion. Also despite the claim of needing to book and dress smartly, I don't think it was justified. Last pint this is on the ground floor, so no views from within the shard.

the manager is rude and has no respect for customers, she spoke to me with utter rudeness as i tried to get her attention to ask about cocktails, she was giving me a dirty look and said scan QR code, i have been to bar 31 three times include this occasion, i really enjoyed the last 2 times but this experience was awful, i have asked her about her name and she refused to give it to me and when i ask another member of staff she had ago at her front of other customers, that alexander has ruined my day,

Disgusting and rude staffs. I am not happy about the service and the manager refunded me with coins of 1p and 5p. She lied to me she cannot refund me with card payment because it takes longer time.

Quelle déception… je pensais faire une belle surprise et boire un verre face à une splendide vue de Londres comme le laissait penser le site internet du Shard mais non, nous nous sommes retrouvés au rez de chaussée de la tour, derrière un escalator. Explication pour l’entrée inexistante, obligée de demander de l’aide à 5 reprises. Emprunte bancaire déjà prise lors de la réservation, possibilité d’annuler moyennant 15£/ personne. Prise de commande excessivement rapide, à peine le temps de lire la carte. A fuir !

Je partage les avis des autres clients. Une interface en ligne trompeuse, j’avais en tête de réserver au bar du restaurant et non au Bar 31. Une fois que nous nous en sommes rendus compte, il était bien sûr trop tard pour annuler, du moins pour être “rentables”. L’annulation est à £15 par personne ce qui est plus cher que de venir consommer un soft ou cocktail. Quant au lieu, rien d’exceptionnel, il s’agit d’un bar classique dont beaucoup du mobilier est issu de leur collaboration avec une marque – rien de sensationnel. Cela reste un beau lieu aux pieds du célèbre Shard. Les serveurs sont polis mais celui sui s’est occupé de nous semble particulièrement pressé de prendre notre commande, je me suis sentie obligée de choisir vite suite à ses 2 passages en moins de 10 mins. Je ne conseilles pas (forcément).

Very disappointed! Wanted to go for a special meal with family somewhere different but wasn’t impressed at all. When ordering our drinks we requested 1/2 pints however we were served full pints. We ordered 2 pizzas a garlic bread and the chicken burger. Both pizzas were absolutely dowsed in truffle oil absolutely ruining it. The air con was also so cold that all of the food was cold within 5 minutes and we had to keep our jackets on. The chicken burger was pink in the middle and so we sent it back. We were then given a free bowl of chips but I would rather have my meal than a bowl of chips. The second chicken burger came out and was still pink. Not once did anyone ask if our food was okay. We didn’t touch the second meal after seeing it was pink again and no one came to check it was okay. They also tried to charge us for this at the end. Not one plate other than the garlic bread was finished and that should show that the food wasn’t good. once we had finished eating our plates were in front of us for around 40 mins and no one came to clear them. It was very quiet especially for a Saturday night and no other tables were having food. All the staff were just chatting at the bar including the chef. Very unprofessional and disappointing especially for the price! Overall cost us £80 for 3 x drinks 2 x pizzas and a garlic bread. Very unhappy!

Shockingly awful. Offhand service, no effort to help, everything too much trouble for the staff. Cant even be bothered to make a cocktail. Avoid like the plague, there is far better nearby.

Shocking expensive supermarket beers they may say they sell craft beer but they don’t. Bar staff poor

Great place & service! Fab outdoor seating and vibe!

They claim that you cannot redeem the points of the Shangri-La golden circle membership. It's a shame, initially they told us:" we don't know what that is" then we went back at the Shangri-la to check and the bar 31 is an accredited structure. Back there they changed the narrative with "our system are not properly working and our manager is not here" result we won't go there anymore and be ready to know they don't want to let you redeem your points

This is an expensive bar in a doorway at the BOTTOM of the Shard There is NO view, and lots of hidden charges DO NOT BOOK unless you know what you’re going to get!! You will still be charged £15 each, even if you cancel.

Beautiful place with horrible service. They announce a gin o clock, but the staff make it very clear that they are not happy welcoming you. It's not welcoming at all. Besides it, the 15% service is already included in the bill. Maybe leave it as optional, would help them to be a little friendly. We left as fast as we came in.

Went to Bar31 for a drink. We were overcharged for our bottle of wine, we didnt realised until we got home. We then have tried to contact Bar31 to ask them to refund the difference and no answer despite trying multiple times.

Elizabeth and Roxana are very nice have a nice mocktail and really enjoyed the moment with a big tv 😊. Come back again

A nice place but went for my mum's 76th birthday, just for a drink only to realise that we were disappointingly over charged and also charged on top another 15% for service for pouring some wine.

Refused entry had booked tjis online in advance but didn't address it until a later date then replied saying we were offered outdoor seating totally not the case won't be booking again and should have looked at previous reviews, the member of staff was rude...

6 of us decided to pop in, based on the £5 gin promo board outside When we sat down, they said the offer wasn't valid until the evening, so the G & T would be twice the price. Disappointed but ordered drinks anyway. Guiness wss...

È stata una fregatura! abbiamo prenotato sul sito due settimane fa, ma sullo stesso non si specifica che il bar si trova al piano terra, piuttosto è stata utilizzata una comunicazione poco chiara illudendo le persone rispetto alla localizzazione del locale. Ci aspettavamo una vista dall’alto ma purtroppo abbiamo visto solo delle piante! Dopo aver comunicato l’errore della prenotazione, sempre causato dalla loro comunicazione poco chiara , ci hanno riferito che non c’era rimedio e che non potevamo andare via senza lasciare 60£, avendo inserito la CC in fase di prenotazione. Ovviamente abbiamo deciso di restare, ordinando dei drink dalla loro misera lista. Ciò che ha resto ancor più spiacevole l’esperienza, è stata la poca volontà di risolvere il problema nonostante la consapevolezza di trarre in inganno le persone che leggono il loro sito. Un consiglio: cambiate anche il nome del bar che è oggetto di confusione.. chiamatelo per esempio: il bar di quelli che non ce l’hanno fatta a salire ☺️

Never had an experience like this in London before. The place is advertised wrongly, I am pretty sure on purpose. We booked a table 2 weeks in advance because we have guests coming from abroad, and they only wanted to visit the Shard and have a good view of the city. Well, as you can see from their website there is a list of restaurants and bars advertised by the floor they are located at...and then you have Bar31, without any further indication that is located on the ground floor. It's completely normal to assume the bar is on the 31st floor. When we realised the mistake, we went to the reception at the main door to ask for more information, they told us this is happening a lot. We then went back to Bar31, and kindly asked to cancel our reservation free of charge because of the misleading advertisment. We actually showed up for our reservation, however we were disappointed about the location. The receptionist (most probably the reception manager given her clothes) said that was unthinkable to do so, and we would have been charged in this case. We decided to avoid the (unjustified) charge and stay for a drink...I ordered from their very poor cocktail list, and I was even more disappointed about the taste of my drink. I am sure we could have checked better (basically only from other reviews on Google), but I am also sure we deserved more than their rudeness and stubbornness.

Ridiculous experience, please read all the other reviews! The most sad thing is that the main concierge of the Shard wasn't surprised and said that happens when we have realised the BAR 31 is at the ground floor, it was too late when I have checked the reviews reporting the same sour taste. The description of the place is thrown there within all the the legit places and doesn't specify which floor is the pub on (Ground floor at the Shard, pathetic), except that on the internal page which you definitely can't spot as you are too excited for having found a cheap place with a great view of London. At that stage we've gently asked to cancel the reservation as the place did not match the expectations, obviously we have been told that a penalty fee of £15 each would have been applied anyway. The place was empty at 7 pm on a Saturday which is why they have to scam customers. Terrible and unprofessional behaviour, I've underlined to the manager that it was a scam, she could not say a word, and I am sure she had a laugh with her colleagues as I have been "unreasonably impolite". They surely don't know what this business means, on a different note the cocktail we have ordered was outrageous compared to what you can get around with the same money.

This is the most misleading place I’ve ever came across. My boyfriend wanted to book a visit at The Shard for my birthday to have drinks with stunning views. He booked trough the official website which mentions that bars are located on the 31st floor. When he opened the reservation link provided it took him to a reservation page for Bar 31 and since it is called Bar 31 he did not question the validity of that. Come my birthday and we show up for our reservation, only to find that Bar 31 has nothing to do with The Shard and it’s only a grubby small little bar on the ground floor with no views at all and no atmosphere. The staff looked very tired and the background music was putting me to sleep. Unfortunately upon arriving it was too late to make any amends so my birthday surprise was totally ruined. Looking trough other reviews this seems to be a common theme. If the owners had any conscience, they would make it more obvious that this bar has nothing to do with The Shard. Unfortunately they just want to cash in on unsuspecting customers.

SUPER misleading. Much more honest if they made it clear everywhere you are NOT booking a table for a bar on the 31st floor of The Shard, but for the ground floor with no view at all.

Good service with yummy cocktails priced reasonably if taking the location into account (£11 per cocktail on average).

We visited here as we arrived early for our Shard visit. Fantastic drinks at sensible (all be it) London prices with friendly staff.

12.5% Descretionary service charge added without notice & £5.07 tip added without consent. A glass of wine and a pint of cider with a face value of £18.50, became a bill of £25.88! Aoid if you don't want to be ripped off!

Very disappointed with the place! As it’s called 31, you imagine you’ll be at floor 31, but you are under the scalator to the rail station. Don’t waste your time here.

I booked online but didn't realise it was on the base of the shard... not really on a proper terrace or with any sort of view. I tried to cancel an hour in advance, but they told me I was going to be charged 15...

Had a great time and enjoyed the ambiance. I ordered a drink, new to try, and I was too shy to send it back. Cristos, well dressed gentleman, knew right away that I didn't enjoy it. He asked me what I wanted instead. Checked on us periodically and was not excessive. Definitely stop here for light snacks, drinks and lunch (we ordered lunch food).

Made a booking and had to cancel for wholly unforeseeable reasons; relayed this in advance of said booking to the venue; get charged a £30 cancellation fee. Absolutely ridiculous.

Located next to The Shard. Happy hour cocktails 5-6. Excellent cocktails. Would have been higher rating if staff were better trained/more attentive. No time allowed to peruse the cocktails list. Total impatience demonstrated!

My husband and i attended on mothers day for a pre booked and paid for 'bottomless brunch' booked via BOTTOMLESSBRUNCH.COM. The prebook cost was set out as £128 for 2 course meal and continuous champayne. We were informed by email. I had my suspicions but...

Nice bar situated within the Shard hotel. Pop in for a quick drink or a cocktail that won't put a big dent in your wallet. The staff are friendly and very helpful.

We thought we would stop on Christmas Eve for a bite to eat after a walk along the Thames. The food was terrible. An over cooked schnitzel a tiny portion of chips for £18. Rubbish

I was here last month with my boyfriend and we went to bar. Bar which is downstairs, forgot the name. I ordered drinks and it took ages to have order ready. I like this place and area, but service must be improved.

Modern setting at the Shard , I wonder why is not mentioned on the website the bar is located at ground floor .. Great staff , pro active and friendly , but suffering of cold conditions ,as they were warm dressed, and no heating on. Will I go again ? I don't think so. Is okay to grab a drink for a small chat , but for me doesn't appeal even that.

Calamari was nice. Ordered pepperoni pizza and the meat tasted really strange. Couldn't do much about it though as they took payment for the meal before the food arrived. Staff were friendly and a nice spot to sit.

Three times I requested a prosecco as each time it came it was flat. Assured me it was from a fresh bottle however, each time I was sat opposite and watched them pour the dregs out of three different bottles. Disappointing as the barman couldn't have cared less, leaving the waiter to deal with it!

Was OK, unfortunately first beers were flat so had to raise issue and wait on replacements, very much a tourist spot so if local I'd say avoid and seek a local pub for which there are lots

Crazy expensive! Just paid £14 for a gin and tonic - if you don't specify the gin, they automatically use the most expensive!! Club prices - average bar.
