Absolutely love the fish and chips. Light crispy thin batter and a nice portion of fish. This shop is an absolute gem. Every time we visit Brighton, we go here to eat. Must visit.

The fish was cooked from frozen, very watery when cut. For £16 fish and chips not good enough. You have to order peas separate, £2.95 for very bad peas. Avoid at all costs.

We visited Bankers on 19th March and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We ordered the cod and chips and the jumbo sausage and chips as well as some sourdough bread and mushy peas for sides. Our food was amazing! We have been trying to go to this restaurant for a while and it really lived up to all our expectations. It's very bright on the inside - we like how there was a separate part for eating in and taking away - and the staff were very friendly. Definitely will be coming back ASAP to try the rest of the menu!

Food was really nice with lovely size fish,but unfortunately it was quiet but still had to wait over 25 minutes after ordering our meals. It seems like another eatery that gives priority to deliveroo and the likes rather than people who actually sit in to eat at the premises...

So happy with my experience here! We had the “green heroes” (meatless chicken goujons), chips and fish and chips and it was so good! It was so nice to have a good option as a vegetarian, and there was also the option of fishless fish too. The fish was apparently superb too, not too much batter and good size fish. Would definitely revisit.

Ordered on Uber eats and am still waiting an hour and 46 mins later for our food! The restaurant then asked us to provide details on facebook and we did only to have them read the message and ignore us! We have been calling and they have turned off their phones!! Nice of them to do this to NHS staff who have worked a long day! AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

The best fish and chips I’ve ever had

One of the best fish and chip restaurants in Brighton. They now serve a smaller portion of chips with the main meal, which is still more than adequate, and if you are still hungry they will top you up with more chips for free. This is a great idea for reducing food waste. It would be nice to see a few more non-fish dishes available for those dinners in a group who don't like fish.

Not sure why it took ages to get fish and chips. It's such an easy and quick food to Cook.

Nice and hot chips. Service poor, no vibes, very expensive, really dry veggie nuggets and overall disappointing. Shame, it’s gone downhill. Used to be absolutely lovely. I hope it improves, but this has been the same the last couple of times I’ve been here, and they were far from busy.

I tried haddock and it was better than cod imo. Food was great, fries were not soggy, but you might have to wait a bit for the staff to get your order. Overall, great experience 😃

We ordered Large Cod & Chips, plus the Battered Sausage & Chips for food. Everything was very well cooked, hot and crisp batter. Great flavour aswell! The curry sauce was fantastic, the best er've ever tried and the milkshakes are good too! Would definitely eat here again and much better than a standard chippy.

Go to Bankers when a little tipsy and can't be asked to cook. I think possibly the best Fish and Chips in Brighton. Always go for a cod, chips and batter sausage. Good food.

Dined in. Excellent crispy batter and firm fish. We shared a medium cod and haddock with chips plus a few extras between 4. Also the child's meal was superb presented, starter, main and dessert for£7.50,in a cute pirate ship. Staff friendly and polite. Premises felt clean.

I've been a Bankers regular for 10 years as I live locally. I just wanted to say the chips have drastically improved recently. They used to be too dry, too thick and too stiff. Now they're more like the fish and chips I remember as a kid, but better quality. Keep it up!

As wheelchair user out with daughters the waitress thought it appropriate that I as a wheelchair user should be sat on the table where the disabled toilet door opened onto the table. The place was almost empty I say no I am not sitting on top of the toilet I get but everyone in wheelchairs want to sit there. Fine they can but I am not. Are you going to direct further customers to sit there. You offered us no other table. We just said we are sitting down there. Not everybody who used a wheelchair is stupid and can be assumed they need to sit right by toilet door. Don't assume please speak to the chair user say perhaps sit wherever but we do have a table nearer the disabled toilet if you wish. This was my birthday treat and to be honest tho the food was great the fact a wheelchair user needs to sit THAT close was big no no. Food so outweighed by attitude

Bankers is a Brighton institution and I don’t think I’ve ever been to a better chip shop in my life. Their menu has something for almost everyone. They have an extensive vegetarian menu, so if you don’t eat fish you’re not stuck with just chips. I’d recommend the chicken royal burger and the onion rings, but the fish eaters in my life are always very happy with their options too. They’re pretty reasonably priced. When I went there the other day for a chicken royal burger and chips it was around £10 for a very decent portion.

Really enjoyed my haddock and chips in the restaurant, staff very friendly. Would have given 5 stars but the garden peas let them down, hard as bullets. I can certainly recommend Bankers.

Tasty, quality fish and chips served hot and fresh. We collected and took the food out to eat on the beach. There was a bit of a wait despite no large queue, but worth it for the fresh food. Staff are friendly and the prices are relatively good value. I could take my dog into the collection part which was handy.

This chip shop used to be great, but after our last experience we won’t be back. Service was slow - 25mins for a takeaway, the staff rude - at one point even shouting at an elderly couple, finally the chips were well below average once we finally got them. Why would you go here when there are so many other chippies to choose from?

It was all right to eat here, it's a nice place to rest and have some lunch. However I was still hungry finishing with the king prawn and salmon salad, my son had cod fingers, chips and mushy peas. Basic service for somehow I expected more in the size of food and the friendliness of hospitality.

The restaurant is always empty, not sure why they don't just do takeaway, because the empty restaurant isn't a good look. I say this as someone who's lived nearby for 20 years. The takeout - not bad, but not good. The service was quick, friendly and polite, but the 'regular' cod was tiny, and the batter completely soft and soggy. Chips were good though. And they forgot my mushy peas. It shouldn't be so hard to get good fish and chips in Brighton... The Bankers Express in Hove is much better.

I’m a regular customer to the western road, hove branch. Portion sizes have been decreasing, whilst prices have been going up. I can’t believe how small the ‘regular chips’ are now despite being £3.35

This restaurant has got a name, however we dont know why. Its below average. The staff are rather bored of the costumers. We really had the feeling that they are just there to put a plate on your table and that is the most. Fish was greasy, chips was awful raw. We are sure you could do better both service and food quality wise....

We actually got a take away should didn’t really sample the atmosphere. Always pop in for cod & chips when visiting my father in law. Little bit on the pricey side but the fish is always great. A mountain of chips so I’d recommend you get small portion! Never been disappointed with the quality of the food. My kids generally go for the chicken bites and always go down a treat.

Brighton local and have been frequenting bankers for almost 10 years… however, the last 6 months something significant has changed.. The food seems worse and worse every time we go.. Whatever has changed, I hope they reverse it soon, as it’s become awful.

After a fitness competition, this venue was able to accommodate 9 of us plus 2 kids. Without a booking I was so greatful. On top of that the food was exquisite as was the service. A massive thank you to the team at this venue.

We had a great experience in bankers. The place is located in the center of Brighton and has good service. I didn't know the taste of the traditional Fish and Chips, but unfortunately it didn't surprise me... Alright, other dishes can offer a better experience. I recommend going from Monday to Thursday, as there are promotional prices on those days. If you want a nice place and nice service I recommend bankers.

Restaurant is a bit clinical looking, but the food is banging. The lady who shouts a lot at the till though is not much fun to be around. We always get ours delivered
