This was one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Really lovely service everyone was friendly. Very good portions the chips were amazing, crispy and fluffy. You can also get a refill on the chips as well. I haven’t stopped thinking about and can’t wait to try again.

Probably the best fish and chips I've ever had. Perfect amount of batter on the fish and the chips weren't overly greasy either. I was only in Brighton for around 4 hours so not sure how this place ranks against others but I can definitely say it seems like a safe bet.

Vegan fish didn’t taste of anything. £3.5 for mushy peas seemed extreme, but service was prompt and friendly that’s the only reason why it’s not one star. Music slightly too loud for a dine in establishment. More a pub volume I would say. Music selection rather eccentric.

In my opinion the best fish and chips in brighton and hove. I've been many times with friends and family, especially those that aren't from brighton, and I tell them all to avoid the places on the sea front and come here. It's a little bit more priced now, but I'd rather pay that for the time being than any another in brighton as you won't be disappointed. They are a child - and family-friendly place. Has disabled access to if you dine in, so you can't go wrong.

Good Chippy, old fashioned style, tea in a teapot and sliced white bread in triangles 🤣 Was like being a kid again. Great staff, the Scottish lady from Paisley was a doll, friendly and likes the banter I could tell. Overall a good warm fresh cooked meal with a smile was what we expected and it is what we got 👍

Staff are so lovely! Plaice was lovely, cooked well, chips were good, with healthy amount of vinegar and salt if you ask for how you like it! Would NOT order the calamari as it is stringy, salad was lovely!

Good Fish and chips and yum curry sauce.

Undercooked chips , burnt mozzarella sticks with hardly any mozzarella , burnt onion rings and no curry sauce. Best thing was the can of warm Coca Cola. Called an was told I would get a redelivery as they said the curry sauce was definitely packed. No redelivery and terrible service

Chicken burgers are amazing also the service came very quick and worth the price

Absolutely brilliant fish and chips. Traditional menu offerings with all the extras, and a great kids menu. The fish was cooked to perfection, with crispy batter and some of the best chips Britain has to offer. And the staff were excellent, exceptional friendly service. Marc was so kind to the kids, joking with them and making it a really fun family night out. I'd give it six stars if I could!

Accidentally ordered from take away side of restaurant. Only realised after ordering. Chavvy girl wouldn’t let us sit inside to eat while it was raining outside. Mind you, the place was empty. Just a cold “no”. Thrilled by the flexibility… Food was decent, but would not recommend.

At Bankers I had the best fish and chips I've ever tried. The fish is very fresh, with a crispy and light batter, the chips are perfectly cooked. The mashed peas and tartar sauce are excellent. The atmosphere is welcoming, the service quick and the staff friendly.

We had fish and chips and were only moderately impressed. It wasn't an exceptional taste but rather standard and the ambience was more like a cafeteria.

They did not send my meal , when we called to complain they said they couldn’t do anything for us . Will never order from here again .

Excellent classic fish and chips in Brighton. Marc our waiter was great, cannot fault his service. Our kids were being tricky and he was excellent with them. Chatted to them like they were valued customers not just kids with their parents. There was colouring sheets for them and one of those crayon pens with the little different coloured cartridges you push through to get the different colours - they loved this. Then our youngest spilt his drink, Marc came up to check if he was ok, said to our son not to worry and he'd get him another sheet to colour. The food was great, excellent chips and they do free refills of chips with main meals!! Really good value for money and a really lovely, charming old school vibe. Once again, Marc, you absolute legend!

a very nice clean and central restaurant serving the best fish and chips I've ever taken. The portion was generous, the fish was amazing, the mashy peas were to die for, not to mention that we went on a Wednesday and we were lucky enough to have 50 percent discount on the hammock fish and chips. a genuine big nice plate, which pls note you can have the fries refilled with as much as you want for around gbp10. Well done Banker's.You be exceedey expectations. Service was also great. I left the umbrella there, when I went back for it, when he saw me from the inside he just went to fetch my umbrella, which he knew I had left behind and by the time I arrived to the door I was handed withy umbrella. So yes guys and gals. If you re in Brighton, visiting Bankers is a must.

The first bite was the best Actually, I don't really like fish, but since I came to England, I tried it and it was fresh fish cutlet! I asked what kind of sauce and salt I would like, but I didn't know what it was, so I regret asking for just a little bit. I think it would have been less bitey if I had just sprinkled that on... And if you're going to eat it alone, order a small size...,!!!,, I ordered medium because I was afraid it would be small, but I was embarrassed because it was packaged in something that looked like a flat shoe box...ㅠPewㅠ So I only ate half. It was a waste... The French fries were delicious. It's best eaten with fish.

How did I not write a review after coming 4 consecutive years? The place to go every time I am in Brighton and it is annual August bank holiday where I come here for a good fish and chips meal. It started off in 2021 where I wanted to try the best fish and chips in Brighton and this restaurant popped up. Initially we ordered mixed seafood platter and fish and chips to share. The wife preferred a proper fish itself rather than mixed seafood platter. The subsequent years we went just fish and chips meal! The large fish and chips are really gigantic and I loved them so much. Juicy and tender! They started the chips refill last year and thought that was nice gesture as customers are able to refill more chips. I had like 2 refills. I was really full for sure at the end of this meal. The chips are give and take, sometimes it can be over fried and hard. They are the fresh potatoes for sure, fluffy in the middle and proper chunky size 😀. I guess if it’s free refill, you can always get a nice fresh ones perfectly cooked. Overall, this is a an amazing restaurant and I will come back again in near future if I am in Brighton again.

Bankers used to be our go to fish and chips as being a local it’s hard finding a place that isn’t geared towards tourists. Sadly, this is what Bankers now is. Large code hardly filled the plate. You get much better (tastier and larger) fish and chips at any pub in town.

Cold food due to driver unable to find my address I think his sat nav needs updating as other drivers have no problem finding my address. I had to come out after asking the driver where was he and eventually I guided him to my address. I asked where was he and I said are you near the church because that’s on another road and every time I use just eat this happens! Please up date your maps app , and may I have a refund. I visited this place today, the service was terribly rude, people with such an approach to the customer should work in a warehouse. The fish was tasteless and the chips were old, the only difference between a large portion and a small one was the box. I do not recommend this place.

Amazing traditional English fish and chips. Mouth watering! But the service is poor. It took them 30 minutes to get a pint of beer and 1 hour to serve us fish and chips.

Ordered chips and it was an absolute disaster. They recooked really old chips which tasted so oily and greasy, had to chuck them away. The chips’ colour was even off and they were all just tasting really horrible. Called them up to see why this happened and they were extremely rude and shut the phone on my face. Extremely rude and terrible customer service. They definitely do not have a good work atmosphere nor do the owners or managers care about customer service clearly if they are allowing really old chips to be recooked and served to customers and then have the workers shut the phone on people’s faces. Very bad service and food would NOT recommend coming here at all. Head down to the beach and get fish and chips instead; it’s cheaper and much better service.

Further to my earlier review of 2022 this chippy is now six stars. Turned up for a pre gig dinner on a Tuesday evening to be met by two delightful servers. My wife and I were served the finest fish n chip supper we'd ever experienced. Everything was cooked to perfection in a spotlessly clean environment. Looking forward to yet another return in October.

Intimate yet large venue with takeaway and eat in options. Particularly fresh fish and chips with no sign of the greasiness you can get with fried food. Crispy good quality batter with perfect flaky fish. You even get free chip refills on some options! I would say on the pricier side but not sure if that's typical of Brighton.

Im astonished that its now £5 for 'large chips' which are definitely not large, to take away! Its a shame as theyre absolutely delicious but i can't justify that cost. Would like to pop in and eat in at some point however as it is a lovely little place

The best fish and chip shop in Brighton & Hove - hands down. I called before hand to see if they had gluten-free and vegan options available. The person who answered the phone (Marc) went through the whole menu and explained what was possible in great detail, and what replacements they use and about cross contamination which was amazing. I have allergies, and have found it difficult for restaurants to be so officiant. We decided to go and dine in because of this interaction and it was so worth it. We had the best meal. My gluten-free rice flour battered cod was light and fluffy, we also had calamari and chips. Absolutely delicious. I didn't feel bloated after as I usually do with and chips. They also offered free refill on the chips (dangerous but great!). Marc happened to be our waiter upon arrival and really offered the best service. We will be returning. He went above and beyond.

My girlfriend & I visited Bankers for the very first (and last) time recently as it was near to the local theatre where we were seeing a show & we both fancied fish & chips. We arrived about 5.00pm & it was very quiet, but the service was good throughout & can't be faulted. My cod & chips & my girlfriend's scampi & chips, plus our sides of garden peas & coleslaw all tasted bland at best. My cod had an odd tasting batter, which wasn't that nice, plus the scampi had almost no taste! The chips were just ok, but weren't anything special. The garden peas were impressively tastless, which is a feat in itself & the coleslaw so disappointing (I love coleslaw & always order it when I can elsewhere) The drinks were fine & the fruit trifle (or TRIFFLE as it's listed on the bill!) was ok, but no more. The quality of the actual food was very low, presumably to keep the prices down, which is a false economy as it means bad reviews & loss of business. Definitely avoid Bankers (all branches have similar bad reviews going back years)

If your ever in Brighton town centre you must try the fish and chips here,they are fantastic and the best I've ever eaten. A little pricey but the size of the fish is amazingly thick and bigger then a dinner plate. You've got to try it,weather permitting eat out as the portions are bigger. Also 99.9% of shops in Brighton allow dogs in the store/shop,all very friendly staff and people always smiling, it's an amazing place.

Venue is really nice, very clean washrooms. Unfortunately dine-in food and service leaves significant room for proper management/improvement. Seems already too much out of control, needs reigned in. I won't be back. The receipt speaks volumes ...

This place is unreal. Can’t wait to go back again. The fish was perfectly cooked, the batter was crispy & delicious. The staff despite being super busy on a hot day were superb. Really personable and attentive. Highly recommend if you want a great seaside fish & chips experience. Oh and the curry sauce was perfection.

We paid for tomato ketchup for my daughter & didn't get it,so she didn't eat her dinner. Tartar sauce was watery too. Small things, but enough to spoil family meal time.

Bankers is our go-to spot for fish and chips when in Brighton. A 2 minute walk from the beach front allows you to eat your food on the beach while it is hot and fresh. Fish was noticeably fresh and fried to perfection - crispy on outside, soft and flaky on the inside. Chips were also fresh and dipped perfectly in the house curry sauce and mushy peas. Counter service was informative and friendly, and gave us everything we needed for a beach meal.

We only go to Brighton about once a year but we always have fish & chips at Bankers. It’s always excellent with goof and friendly service. Very reasonably priced as well and everything is very fresh.

I have a takeaway from here yesterday. It’s been a long time since no I visited. Total satisfaction for taste, presentation, quality and portion size. It’s hard to get really good fish and chips in Brigjton and this is clearly up in the top 3 in my opinion. Alas I ordered through an app so prices were artificially high as those apps load coast, but next time I’ll hope down on the bus it will be worth it. The homemade fish cakes were absolutely awesome and one is a good portion for one, but you get two! I don’t think these can be beaten they were delicious.

The fried fish is really crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The taste is moderate and the portion is sufficient. It’s a restaurant worth visiting again.

Unfortunately the peas were cold which was very disappointing. I also asked for a thick piece of cod which is how I like it, and was told it comes how it comes. It's quite a normal request at a fish shop, particularly when paying top end prices, so was disappointed by this reaction. Probably would not go back, although chips are good.
