I don’t know why, but I really like this place. The service is always friendly, but a bit slow. It only accepts cash. The decor is a bit cheesy. But, the food is great. Plenty of flavour, good portion sizes, and a varied menu. Our favourite pre evening theatre destination in Portsmouth.

We went here for a friends birthday, the initial impression was very good accommodating and friendly. They allow members to bring their own refreshments to drink which is a nice touch. Sadly the food never arrived all at once and some of our group waited ages to get their food. The food was nice when it arrived and I have no complaints about the quality. Not sure it was memorable enough for me to want to return.

We have been to this restaurant many times over the last few years. The food was always very fresh and tasty, with the sauces being especially delicious. I tried to make a booking last week, but couldn’t get through on their usual number. A message kept telling me to check that I had dialled correctly. I went to the restaurant in person on Friday and there was a note in the window with a temporary mobile number to call to make a booking. We arrived on Saturday to find notes all over the restaurant stating that it was ‘cash only’. Several people came in and then left to go to the cash point across the street. Not a good start to a Saturday night out. We were given menus and a wine list and it took quite a while for the waitress to come over. I asked for a glass of white wine and was told that they didn’t have any, because they’d had a big party the night before! No white wine at all? None? We then ordered two bottles of Singha beer, only to be told that they’d run out of that too. When the food arrived, two of the dishes were very bland and were an insipid beige colour, with a watery sauce. The third dish was a ‘sizzler’, which the waitress took into another part of the restaurant. She came back five minutes later, having been told by a colleague that we had ordered the dish. This dish was the most tasty out of all of them, but by now it wasn’t sizzling and was just about warm. We voiced our complaints at the end of the night, but were just told ‘sorry, sorry’ by the waitress. If the food had been good then we could have overlooked (to some degree) the other problems, but sadly, we won’t be returning. I believe that the restaurant changed hands sometime last year, not for the better.

This is our local Thai restaurant. The food is always excellent and we’ve eaten different dishes and have never been disappointed. It’s excellent for casual and quick dining and often we pickup and bring it home when we want a nice quiet evening by the TV. It’s not a fancy restaurant if you are looking fir a fine dining night out. However this food is better than some fine dining restaurants!

I thought the restaurant was clean and tidy. The staff were helpful and friendly. The restaurant is under new ownership now. I noticed there was a sign above the bar stating this. The food was ok , but I was disappointed with the portion size considering the price of the food. I didn't think I got very good value for money. I was part of a group and none of our meals were very big at all. The wine in my opinion was like the food a bit over priced considering the quality. I didn't have a bad experience , but in this location there are many restaurants that offer better quality food and are much better value for money. I would prefer to eat at one of those establishments instead.

The staff were not particularly friendly. There was no atmosphere in the restaurant at all. The food arrived quite quickly, it was probably just microwaved. Generally sadly it was pretty tasteless and oily. Certainly nothing special. The prices were quite reasonable, I didn't notice the portions to be particularly small as previous other reviewers have said. We definitely will not visit here again. It's a shame as it looks quite nice from outside. Do yourself a favour and try one of the many other restaurants or cafes on Albert Road.

Chicken wings were lovely , satays were fab and the fish cakes were plentiful and just the right heat. Massaman curry was good , Pork garlic ordered with extra garlic was just delicious Pad Kraow was great and the Penang curry although a little to hot for our friend was nice. Service was good and the young lady serving us was charming. Lovely to see them in "Thai" clothes ............. have been on a number of occasions and haven't had a bad experience , yes the portions are fairly small but that's why we have starters.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I came with my parents to Southsea and decided to eat here because my mother liked Thai food and this restaurant is close to our hotel where we were staying. Parking can be quite hard to find in this area during the height of the summer and the best ones are the street parking right beside the restaurants and other surrounding shops. When we first dined in here, we were somewhat disappointed to what we were expecting. Our food took some time to arrive and when it did, it may in very small potions, like say enough to feed at least 2 people as oppose to the 3 of us. If that is not enough, the food was sometimes so sweet and sometimes tasteless. We had to ask for salt, soy sauce and because it wanted it hot, we asked for some chilli sauce that is basically chilli pieces preserved in oil, which testified my parents tastebuds. The only good thing we liked was the Australian white wine we had for a drink. We shared our food starting with Chicken Wings and Pork Wontons and then having pad thai, which are prawns mixed with vegetables, rice and noodles together with sweet and sour chicken. I liked the taste of the food but was expected a bit more of it, which never happened. Interior design is quite traditional, but the size of the restaurant felt a little narrow and crammed. They have toilet here but only 2 units, one of mens, one for ladies with a long narrow waiting room with benches and coat hooks just outside the toilets. It was understaffed when we came but the waitress was very kind, polite, helpful and friendly, which brightened up our mood a bit. The eating experience is OK, but personally I would not recommend eating here at the moment until things improve at this restaurant hopefully in the near future.

We had a big variety of dishes between us such as pork pad kra pow, Thai green curry and pad Thai As well as starters and they were not at all authentic or how Thai food should be! At the start of the meal I found a long black hair in my rice which I took out without complaint as I wanted to try the food but I regret I did. I've travelled Thailand for years and street food uses nicer and tastier ingredients. I visited a few years back and it was nice but this time it was nothing short of a joke. AVOID.

Went with a group of friends after persuading them that I didn't fancy Chinese as Thai was my favourite, wished I hadn't bothered. Three starters of Thai Fish Cakes were returned to the kitchen, these would be nice if you enjoy eating tasteless rubber served at 200c, they had obviously been pre prepared and microwaved to within an inch of their life, they were replaced with Satay which resembled something from a packet. The main courses were no better, all had chicken curry in varying formats, this lacked spice, taste and the chicken was cheap and spongy. The wine was OK and reasonably priced, redeem 1 point.

The menus were cheep looking laminated plastic with numbers next to the dishes similar to a take away menu. Drinks were order which came out fairy quick. We ordered ribs, dim sum , prawns & pancake rolls for starters , All starters were bland and resembled pre packed frozen food. For our mains we ordered green curry, coconut rice, sweet and sour chicken, chicken and rice & sizzling beef. Green curry was very runny very little flavour. Could not taste any coconut in the rice, sweet and sour tasted like chicken in tomato ketchup. Chicken and rice just bland and the sizzling beef not sizzling although probably the most flavour of all the dishes. Would not be going back here again ourselves.

Having read some of the other reviews I have had to pinch myself just to make sure we were in the same establishment but we were! First of all, the staff were running around like headless chickens - my wife ordered a tonic water with NO ice and I ordered mineral water, my wife got tonic water with ice and my mineral water was delivered with the top on the bottle and the waiter removed my glass as he expected, I think, that I should drink the water from the bottle! My wife ordered dimsum and red curry and I ordered meat spring rolls and pad thai. The dimsum was fine but the spring rolls had no meat content - the red curry was tasteless and had to have a generous amount of dark soy sauce added to make it palatable whereas my pad thai was so sweet that I could eat none of it after the first taste. To their credit they did ask if I wanted to try something else but I refused and the cost was deducted from the final bill. The general impression that these people were playing at running at restaurant and learning as they went along.NOT recommended under any circumstances.

Really nice food, I went with a friend on a Wed, very quick service, we were in and out in less than an hour, we shared a beef salad, pad Thai, chicken and baby sweet corn and a boiled rice, very yummy and was only £23 thank you.

The restaurant wasn't very busy for a weekend but we liked the look of the menu. Ordered drinks and starters. The starters didn't come with the usual thai dips but maybe too hot for the regular clientele they get.....hence the chips on the menu! (this would usually put me right off)The service was prompt and the curry excellent!Really worth a try for portion size and price.I will return for sure.

Me and my fiance have eaten here several times. There is a wide variety of dishes to choose from, ranging from thai noodles to traditionalk thai curries. We have both tried to have a different dish each time we have eaten here, simply because we know the food will be tasty, whatever we choose. The waiting staff are very friendly and attentive, they are thorough with your orders and make sure they have taken it down correctly and are happy to ask the chefs to amend the dish should we want it more or less spicey for example. overall a pleasant experience from start to finish, everytime! Highly recommended. :)

We hesitated about going into this restaurant as my wife doesn't like spicey food but were pleasantly surprised. The staff were very helpful and happy to make suggestions when we explained our situation.Service was good and the food absolutely delicious. They have a very limited wine selection but you can take your own wine and they charge £2.00 corkage.

I am just back from my evening meal at BTC and found the service to be courteous and timely, the table setting fresh tablecloths and napkins and the extensive menu very tempting. We chose a prawn noodle dish and a chicken and vegetable dish, to share. Both were excellent, piping hot with complex flavours. A good buzz in the atmosphere, clean throughout the restaurant - and the loos were lovely. So many restaurants on Albert Road, but we will be back to savour more of the Bangkok Thai, before long.

Very friendly staff. Good atmosphere. Large menu with lots to choose from. The starters were delicious. I ordered a Thai Red Curry, which unfortunately was so hot I could not eat it! My husband has an asbestos mouth when it comes to food, but even he said it was too hot. I had sought the advice of the waitress when choosing, so was disapppointed. However, they did offer me another meal, but I didn't want to wait as my husband had finished by that time. So they knocked the price of the meal off when I asked. My husband had a gorgeous meal which came out on a sizzling plate, he said was wonderful. Definately would come back as I'm sure there is plenty to choose from that would suit me.

There are many restaurants on Albert Road with food of various cuisines. The Bangkok Thai Restaurant looked attractive and the prices were reasonable. There is a wide range of authentic dishes on the menu and the food was very good. I was very pleased with the service here. The staff were polite and speedy. No reason not to visit again.

Popped in un booked last night and had a lovely meal. After the Thai festival last Sunday on the Castle Field we decided to sample the food from this restaurant. Food was excellent and the service polite and speedy. Nice to eat out and not be up selled all the time like some other Albert Road restaurants. You can take your own drink if you like but a meal for two with wine was very reasonably.

We went here for a meal because we miss Thai food after our trip to Thailand. It turned out to be very expensive for what it was and the standard of the food was inferior to the authentic dishes we experienced in Thailand. Another story of a restaurant cashing in on British ignorance of authentic foreign food. If you know your Thai food go somewhere else and don't settle for this.

Had a wonderful meal here with friends - it was heaving even though it was midweek. The owners were very friendly and service attentive. You can bring your own alcohol which keeps the price down. A meal for four: starters and mains came to just over £60. Great location for the Kings Theatre / Wedgewood Rooms and bars for pre-drinks.For us this is also the best take away in Southsea - chilli cod - WOW! Take away or dining in....the food is excellent all the time......thoroughly recommend.

For a reasonably priced, great tasting meal, this is a great restaurant to go to. You can take your own wine (at a small corkage fee) which keeps the price down - my partner and I usually manage to eat well for a total of between £ 25.00 - £ 30.00. The staff are attentive and friendly so we would recommend the Bangkok to all who enjoy Thai food.

I love this place. It's well run, a lovely setting, caters well for any size booking (couple right up to large group) and serves delicious food. It's a bring-your-own alcohol restaurant which does help keep down the cost of a night out. The staff are very friendly and efficient.Take away also available - yum yum

Booked after a recommendation by a friend, we were nonetheless wary due to the lack of reviews. We needn't have been.Fast friendly service. Nice decor. It isn't one of the more intimate candle-lit places which are so few and far between nowadays, but that isn't a criticism. They offer a great range of starters and mains. The dim sum and pork toasts were absolutely delicious, the pad thai as good as II've had anywhere. The restaurant was packed which says it all really. Overall would definitely recommend. Will be dining there again for sure.

Ignore the character below. Me and my boyfriend have been to Bangkok multiple times in the last year alongside taking friends and family - all who love! The food is amazing - fresh, packed full of flavour and very good value. Having travelled in Thailand myself I have never tasted a Dim Sum as fantastic outside of the country. Before I leave and reel some more about the below review I think it is also worth mentioning that you can bring your own wine so you are saving £20/30 before you even arrive.

Food smelt really bad, I couldn't eat it at all. I felt they were small portions. We spent £31.90 on two starters, two mains and drinks (non alcoholic). I wouldn't recommend this place, plenty more places to eat on Albert Road. Maybe not quite Thai, but they're Asian (Indian!) ha!

One of my favourite places - The food & service 10/10 as always! The mixed platter starter is THE BEST, the chicken satay is honestly something else! It has the right amount of sauce and chicken isn’t

What I had: Crispy pork belly, which was tasty but a bit overcooked and chewy, a tiny amount of salad that didn’t really go with it, think TESCO salad leaves, a small dish of sauce, which was deliciou

Aroy-Dee Thai is a cosy little restaurant in Castle Road (previously Nings). Food is always excellent and with generous helpings. Thoroughly recommend for relaxing atmosphere, but delicious food.
