The best avocado on toast I’ve ever had! So good I had to leave a review which I never normally do! Yum!

First visit to Harrogate, previously visited Weatherby. Excellent quality and tasty food. Reuben was excellent. Loved the pickled vegetables. Would recommend and looking forward to a return soon.

Saw the Norwegian flag so dropped in. Great food, taking us back to our trips to Norway and Stavanger. Recommended to visit

Had a lovely quiet Monday morning breakfast here on the way home from a little trip. We shared a bacon roll (which came with egg, hashbrown and brown sauce) and an almond croissant. The roll was absolutely delicious. I was intrigued by the vegan milkshakes, as I can't usually have milkshakes these days due to lactose intolerance. I got the salted caramel milkshake and a double espresso, and added the espresso to my milkshake. I highly recommend! My partner said his coffee was nice. The almond croissant was lovely, however I remember I've had an almond croissant from here, but stocked at another coffee shop perhaps a year ago. I do remember it being larger and more indulgent than this one, however it was still nice, slightly overcooked. Will definitely be back.

The food is really outstanding. I had the sausage and hash, my wife had the waffles and chicken and my son had the gravilax and it was all great. Very reasonable prices, too. I love that they have self-serve water. It was so good we came back the next day for coffee and cakes.

Visited 23 August with family for coffee and cake. As it was later on in the afternoon, many of the cakes were already sold out. I decided on the gluten free waffles with jam and cream, which was big enough to share and delicious. My husband had the sourdough cookie, which was also a triumph. We also had americanos, a cappuccino and an Oreo milkshake. All were fantastic. They had oat and soy milk available and could do the milkshake as vegan if needed. We had a bit of a spillage when we were there which was dealt with quickly by the staff, who were efficient and friendly throughout. The toilets were nice and clean. I would highly recommend.

Ever so stylish and some great Norwegian dishes, if you can get a table! Be early.

Took our little puppy to socialise him and the amazing cake and tea was a great bonus 🐶 ☕️ Service was sooo friendly, place was very clean, and had a great atmosphere. 10/10 recommend!

Super tasty! I got the mackerel pate and it was very very good. Really good service with very nice staff. Hard recommend on the waffles.

Great place for breakfast. Service was excellent and food was a high standard. The 'Indian Eggs' with raita and mango chutney was unusual and delightful. 'Graviaks on Rosti' with beetroot cured salmon was also very good. If I lived local this would be a regular place for food. Thanks

Also told that I may want to visit a more affordable establishment nearby. I know I was only wearing my second best Armani suit, but really! As an eccentric millionaire I took revenge by immediately purchasing the business (with cash) and sacking the offending barista. Expect some big changes now that I am the boss. Crisp sandwiches and dandelion & burdock on tap will be coming to your snobby town very soon.

Concerning when the staff are telling certain customers that there is a cheaper shop down the street. Not a good advert for Harrogate. Shame on you. Maybe a customer care course would be in order!

Great place to eat in Harrogate for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Good vegan options available. Some lovely looking pastries and cakes available too.

Well impressed, I tried the Indian eggs & the wife had the healthy option veg, nuts, salad & chicken bowl. We'll certainly call in again next time we're in town 👍

Amazing tasty food but massively overpriced

We picked up sandwiches for picnic lunch - probably the tastiest sandwich I’ve ever eaten! Delicious fillings ( feta, Brie and horseradish or curried cauliflower !)in the most divine bread - soft light but with a crunchy crust - I shall return!

Good coffee and large means large! The Internet wasn't working which was disappointing

Everything I've had in Baltsersens so far has been amazing. Customer service is brilliant! And the coffee is to die for! I would recommend this place to everybody. Indoor seating, and outdoor for when the sun is shining.

Delicious food, allowed changes to the standard options. As an American, I suggest you order your coffee extra hot unless you plan to drink it all quickly.

The warm cinnamon bun was one of the best, if not the best, I've ever tasted. And the sultanaboller was something to rave about. Visited again today and the comments above are still relevant. Plus the slice of carrot cake was huge.

Really chilled place. Super friendly and helpful staff (helped with my pram and warmed a bottle for me). Lovely food too.

We had breakfast here absolutely lovely food.

Went there this afternoon for the second time (17th of March) and got sat down quickly. After that, we were left for over twenty minutes were no one came over to take our order or paid us any attention. This happened the first time we went to the cafe but the cafes saving grace was the food. We'd thought that when it happened the first time, it was just because it was busy and thought it was worth going back to. But no. What made it worse was that other people had been sat down after us and had there order taken before us. The waitress only came over after overhearing me say to my partner that we should go. I then found out, the item I had wanted had just sold out to another table and I just thought, there is no point staying. I won't be coming back again as the service is dreadful.

Good but expensive. It is Harrogate after all.

Nice cafe, interesting menu and good food but overcharged at till. Beware there is a second machine that takes a £3 tip so if you use contactless, the second machine is right next to the one you pay with so it accidentally took it from me without my permission due to the close proximity.

Super friendly team, and lovely food. They have delicious gluten free homemade bread. We had a great avocado toast, cinnamon bun and I had a delicious lentil stew. Their waffles are huge but to die for ! Good coffee and tea as well. Recommend !

Love the scandi theme. Good atmosphere and lovely coffee and cakes. On this visit I even had a cinnamon bun and a sultanabollen (usually sold out by the time I get there) the addition of the shop unit next door has made a difference to the queues. Much better.

Very delicious, had the gravlaks and a honey latte. Service was very good and food arrived quickly, great value for money.

Norwegian based cafe in the centre of Harrogate. Friendly ambience. Plenty of seating, though we had to wait for a few minutes for a table. Interactive choice of foods with vegetarian and vegan options. Delicious cakes. Recommended

Really enjoyed our food here. Some unique dishes I haven’t seen anywhere else and the pastries looked great. Would recommend to anyone. We got a table in about 5 minutes at 1pm but by the time we left there were at least 5 groups of people waiting at the door, so maybe a bit of luck. Staff very efficient though. Dog friendly.

£3.80 for a flat white. Sorry, that's a little too far. Avergae price for a good flat white is 3.30 and 2.85 near the station.

Love the vibe here. My husband & I visited mid-day on a Friday, they were busy but we were seated quickly. Our server was friendly, efficient & patient as we ambled over the menu: I had the avocado toast with perfectly poached egg & my husband the Nordic Club, we both had coffees & dessert. Everything was tasty, beautifully presented & politely served. We'd definitely go here for brunch (or any other time) again. Thank you to all Baltzersen's.

Missed out on the cinnamon rolls!! I'll will come back to try those! I opted for the vegan hot dog with a fancy name (proste??). The pickle and salad on the side was gorgeous and the hot dog itself was nice but I was a bit disappointed in the bun. It said it came in a pretzal bun-- I found it to be more like brioche and way too much of it for the size of the hot dog. Staff were exceptionally nice and also enamoured of the doggos. The tables and space were nicer up front, it felt a little bit more spartan to the back of the caf.

An amazing place to grab some truly unique coffee and food. The atmosphere was really friendly and the staff couldn't have been nicer or given better service. The sheer selection of coffee, tea and hot drinks available meant there was a choice to suit everyone and the ones our group had (honey latte, chai latte) were delicious. You can't go in without wanting to try one of the incredible treats or meals on the menu and all are really tasty, with interesting Nordic twists in most cases. The cinnamon swirls are particularly good. Overall this place is highly recommended to anyone looking to grab either a quick brew or looking to sit in and enjoy the full coffee shop experience and we already can't wait to go back!

We went to Harrogate and we stopped for lunch in this lovely cafe. We asked for a stew with lentils in a cold weather day. It was delicious!! And the bread I've ever had!. Highly recommended!! For sure we will stop again when we visit Harrogate!!

Points taken off for the awful heavy grime music (with lyrics...!)on a Saturday with families there. Bizarre. We didn''t stay as long as we would have liked and had one quick course. Good scandi food.

Staff very friendly and attentive, food and coffee is fairly overpriced it's decent quality but not worth over £35 for just two people

Service really lacking. Slow to receive order, but very quick to whip mugs and plates away when done, then not a word out of them when paying. You're not McDonald's. Shame as used to be better and food/drink still good.

Such good Brunch from here! I got the Smorbrod soft shell crab, which was delicious and we also got the soup of the day which was lentil, sweet potato and miso - yum. It’s nice they have all the normal brunch options as well as a variety of Scandi options too, which keeps the menu interesting and if you’re fancying something a bit more unique that can be nice. Pastries and coffee are delicious also! Atmosphere is very chill and there’s some plugs available for working as well.

A more unique offering in the town and a great option for brunch. The interior dining area is spacious but fills up fast, so expect to have to wait at busy times. The service from the staff is welcoming and friendly with everyone being attentive and fast. The menu has a good range and a mix of familiar dishes as well as some more traditional Scandinavian items. Portion sizes are large and with the quality of the food represent good value. The fresh pastries are equally as large and tasty, so whether you’re wanting a full meal or a lighter breakfast you won’t be disappointed. Overall it’s a great place and for something a little different I’ll certainly be returning.

Great cafe, our favourite in Harrogate. Sadly on this occasion there was no gravlax (my favourite) but alternatives were still delicious and I'm assured the hot chocolate was sensational. Never get tired of this place

I think I'm in love with Cruffins. They are amazing here paired with a Honey Latte. I look forward to them whenever I'm in the area. It's always busy here, the service is good and the food is unique and delicious.

Had coffee and cakes here many times but ordered breakfast for the first time. Absolutely amazing. Will definitely be back the next time we visit Harrogate!

Waiting for an appointment I wandered round Harrogate looking for somewhere to have a drink and a bit of breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised to find this place just opening so popped in, ordered a tea and a brioche bun. The bun had shredded potato rosti, sausage pattie, and an egg. Presented beautifullly and tasted great. The irony struck me that I had walked past MacDonalds to order essentially a sausage and egg muffin but of course Balterzens version was far superior. Carefully grated and seasoned potatoes, a quality sausage pattie from a recognisable local butcher and an egg with a yolk that was nearer to orange than yellow. Clearly from happy chickens. I'm not one to 'dis' a Macdonald's breakfast on the go, but the food snob arrives when you eat quality like this. You know what, it didn't cost the earth either. Well done Balterzens!

Really bad service. Queued for 15 minutes only for the waiter to seat groups who had arrived after us first. When we were seated there were various empty tables so it seems they had just forgotten about the waiting customers. They tables were sticky, the general vibe was like a children’s play area, and the service even when seated was so slow that we walked out. Don’t waste your time on an overhyped, average restaurant that doesn’t care about its customers!

Love Baltzersen’s. The food is always delicious. There are always a great selection of healthy options as well yummy cakes. My cockapoo dog is always made very welcome too, which is a bonus.

An easy place to like, occasional queues to get in - god I bet they love that! Menus suggest more than they supply, I feel 'being there' is seen as more important than, well, being there.

This cronut changed my life. It was just....everything. The salad was okay - I've had better (the cooked elements were fridge-cold, but service was speedy as they weren't cooking fresh). Recommend for coffee & cake.

Tried the quinoa bowl probably personal preference but found it very bland and the dressing was mid at best, smoothie was lovely and very cute place with an atmosphere. Friends loved their food

Had lunch when we arrived in Harrogate on our way to York . We were so impressed that on our return journey a few days later we stopped here for breakfast. Love the food , staff are great AND our dog is welcome❤️

Very nice foods and good place.

We were having a day trip to Harrogate by coach and really wanted a cup of tea, but most shops and cafés had already shut up shop at 4:45pm. This one tiny-looking place was still open - and it is like a TARDIS, bigger on the inside than it seems. The very friendly staff were happy to serve me, but also informed me that they were closing in 15 minutes. We both had a cup of tea and I asked which was their most popular cake and had that as did my mum. We took it to a table - basic but clean - and sat down. There was music on at a level which suited us, and the tea was the best we had had all day - and yes, we had already been to Betty's and M&S earlier. But the cake! Oh, my! I was so impressed -a cinnamon bun which was huge, but I ate it all as it was so lovely. Not greasy but a perfect texture and flavour. This baker knows what they are doing. I thought the staff, who involved me in their conversations, were fantastic, and did not hustle us out. One of the nicest cafés I have been in for a while. Unfortunately, I cannot persuade them, though I tried, to move to Lytham.

I frequent a coffee shop local to me who gets their pastries from Baltzersens bakery so I thought the coffee shop would be good to visit. I made the journey there on a Saturday morning and overall it was worthwhile. Coffee was nice, pastries and baked goods as nice as what I'm used to from my local coffee shop. One part I couldn't understand was the service here.. you get sat down as it's table service, but they don't bring a menu unless you request it after, I said I was after two coffees and a pastry then after seeing a menu then I had a slight change to which I got as a response "I can only change it if it's not been made yet".. well I hadn't even ordered you took it upon yourself to take half an order in advance?! To pay you go back up to the till and it is no longer table service.. It just doesn't make too much sense and that's a downfall here but overall it's worth a visit but unfortunately don't think it'd become a regular spot in Harrogate for myself.

Went in for coffee and pastry. Decided to go for Lemon Drizzle cake. Was not impressed by the cake. Very poor quality. Stodgy and not much taste of lemon. Coffee was good though.

Good food and friendly service. There were a few things that we wanted to order but not available which was shame. Next time we want to try the afternoon tea which looks epic.

From the moment we arrived we had lovely friendly service and the food was absolutely amazing! Catered very well for gluten free customers! Will definitely be coming back here again on our next visit to Harrogate

Great waffles, nice coffee. Order Sultanaboller to take out when you order food. They sell out fast each day. The cafe has 3 steps up at the entrance. Cafe is all on kne level. Toilets are down a flight of stairs with sharp turn.

The place was really busy but had a great atmosphere. Staff found a table for us even though they were busy. Really friendly staff and great coffee. Didn't have food this time but looked great, will definitely get something to eat next time

Well Harrogate was quiet but this place was buzzing. Absolutely fabulous little place and nice and clean. Great Menu, super friendly and welcoming staff, very efficient too. Great seating areas and the food was amazing…the nosebags went on as soon as it was served. Also lovely coffee…and nice cakes to take home too. Loved it and we’ll be back as soon as we can🥳

Balterzens cafe is an absolute gem! Not only is the coffee top-notch and freshly brewed, but the pastries are out of this world. They have this amazing selection of Scandinavian treats like cinnamon rolls. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with lots of natural wood and soft lighting, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy your coffee and pastry. And the best part? The prices are totally reasonable! I can't recommend this cafe enough - it's the perfect spot for a sweet pick-me-up.

Visited with friends. Small seating area outside, and as the weather was so beautiful, we decided to sit outside and enjoy watching the world go by. We were served by a wonderful waitress who recommended some of the menu choices. There is a great choice on the menu, and it can be hard to choose from! We were not disappointed when the food arrived. Delicious flavours and presented beautifully. It's worth knowing this is a dog friendly venue too.

The cinnamon buns in the window caught our eye and we had to go in to try one. We had coffee and the buns and my daughter also had a beetroot juice blend. The coffee whilst a bit small was very good and the cinnamon bun was absolutely gorgeous! I'd recommend this cafe!

Loved the food here! It’s fresh, scandi and so tasty. The duck fat chips were the absolute star of the show, OMG! Highly recommended. They had friendly service and a laid back atmosphere which was dog friendly both inside and outside. Back to the food the the club sandwich was lovely and very generous, complete with pickled veg and potato salad on the side which were both really nice as well. The open sandwich with smoked beetroot was really good here, everything was just good here.

Good choice of pastries. The coffee was average though, without much depth of flavour and extremely expensive for something that isn’t particularly different to what you could get elsewhere for less… £4.70 for mocha with oat milk… I paid £8.10 in total just for one coffee and one pastry! Next time I’d probably just get a pastry to takeaway and get coffee somewhere else where it might have a stronger flavour. If you like mild coffee then it’s ok but if you want more of a good coffee flavour then you’d have to pay 90p for an extra shot here, which would have made the coffee £5.60!!

Just wow, we had brunch and was delicious, we had the pyttipane, potato, beetroot, garlic, mushrooms, greens with an egg on top. Kept us going all day.

This was a one day trip to Harrogate and we found this place by searching dog friendly cafes. It was the first result. What an amazing find. Fabulous food, ace coffee, and dog friendly. Staff we great too.

Nice little busy place to sit in the sun and enjoy a coffee and/or breakfast. Very much recommend the porridge with peanut butter and jam :)

Visited for brunch / lunch with a very mixed experience. Halloumi breakfast roll was delightful, a real top notch breakfast option to anyone visiting. The smorrebrod on the other hand was revolting. We ordered the chicken mustard mayo option and were delivered a freezing cold (borderline frozen) chicken, sweetcorn and mayonnaise paste that contained less flavour than the equivalent Tesco meal deal sandwich. It was on a very dry slice of rye bread and topped with a stone cold slice of dry bacon (far from crispy bacon as described). Thankfully we had the dog with us so nothing went to waste. We were never asked if the food was ok so paid up and left. I won’t be returning anytime soon

They were very helpful sorting us with a table for 6, plus 3 small dogs, at 2pm. The service was quick to be fair, though the waitress was too much in a rush to be friendly, somewhat sharp in her manner. Food and drinks came quick. Disappointed in the jammie dodger victoria sponge cake; if made in their bakery that day, then the sponge wasn't very light at all, dry, cream was hard, jammie dodger the size of a 1p coin, overall disappointing. Probably the poorest sponge cake I've had. My family had the cinnamon buns which seemed fine. My hot chocolate sadly lacked flavour and barely hot. Music too loud to have a nice chat, but they kindly and happily reduced the volume to a decent background one.

Gravlax rosti was absolutely brilliant as was my flat white 🤍

Asked if we wanted our cinnamon bun warm but looks like they use the microwave to heat it up. Made it soggy and sad
