Prima Pizzeria & Ristorante in Harrogate

First time there this evening, It was pretty busy which was reassuring, the starters arrived quickly and were nice enough. The mains arrived. Pepperoni Pizza was not very nice, pepperoni just tasted of grease and was hardly cooked, a real let down to be honest (left 3/4 of it). Seafood linguine was pretty tasty, although the squid was like rubber. Management refunded the price of the Pizza after we mentioned the taste. Can’t ask for anymore than that I suppose. Not sure if our mains were a let down due to how busy it was. Based on that I don’t think I’d go back.

This was our go to Italian restaurant when we lived in Ripon years ago as a family. It only seemed fitting that we had our dad's 80th birthday meal there. From the point of reserving the table to adding an extra seat a day before the pre meal service was excellent. The restaurant was welcoming and still has that atmosphere that we remember. Quality of food was excellent and we hardly had to wait between courses. For me Primas is an easy recommendation for anyone wanting a good meal

Me and my family went for an amazing meal over the Christmas period to celebrate a birthday. The staff were absolutely lovely and friendly and completely attentive to our needs, even though the place was packed. The food was delicious and I already can't wait to go back to try some of the other dishes. The service was top notch from start to finish and we had a lovely evening. 16/10 would recommend going!

We came to Prima to celebrate the 18th birthday of our son on Dec 22nd, what can I say? it was fabulous from start to finish, the service fron the waiting staff was perfect, friendly, attentive & polite, the house red wine is one of the best I've tried & the cocktails we had were lovely too, the food was outstanding, the starters were served swiftly despite our large party on the last weekend before Christmas, the fillet steaks were perfectly cooked with plentiful sides, lobster linguine to die for, pizza excellent always, the meal finished off with a happy birthday sparkler in my sons dessert, fantastic restaurant & always our go to choice and we will keep on returning, thankyou Prima 😀

I’ve lived in Ripon all my life and I’ve always looked at Prima as a very nice restaurant, however after last nights experience my opinion has sadly changed. We booked a table for 6 in November and were told someone would phone us early December to take a deposit to confirm our booking. Come mid December I’d had no phone call for the deposit and as I was out in Ripon with friends that evening i decided to pop into Prima to make sure they still had record of our booking. I was told by a female member of staff that yes, we have your booking and someone will call the following week to take a deposit. But again nobody phoned me and we were all left wondering yet again. With a couple of weeks to New Years Eve and still not hearing anything from Prima I phoned them again to check the booking. They told me yes we have your booking, and we’ve got you on a window seat. Last night we turned up for our meal and the staff looked lost, and seemed to have no record of our booking. We were told the table by the window already had people eating at it and someone would call us when it was ready. Our booking was for 7.30 so we went for a drink somewhere else first, by the time it got to 8pm we decided to go back to Prima, and the people at our table were just leaving, so we waited for the staff to clean the table. Not much was offered in the way of an apology and both myself and my partner felt unwelcome to be honest. We also noticed other people had complimentary Prosecco and party poppers on their tables but we didn’t get this? When the bill Came there was a £17 service which we were told could be removed, so we informed them to do so. This also made us feel awkward, by getting another bill. Prima you’ve gone down in our expectations, and we’ll not be returning anytime soon

Having booked a table at Prima for New Year's Eve, we had really looked forward to it. Our night was perfect. Food was excellent, service was what we would have expected on a busy evening. I have only posted this review as I had looked for a review off a lady who had obviously got out of the wrong side of the bed. She complained that the table she had requested for half seven was not vacated by the party eating at 19:15. Her party then said they would go for a quick drink instead of taking a table elsewhere. I have read that she refused to pay the service charge. The waitresses that work there have given up their own New Year to wait on the customers. If you think you are special then I suggest cooking at home and letting the staff be recognised for what they give up. Did I tip, damn right I did.....

We had booked an evening meal between Christmas and New Year to catch-up with friends. Late being seated, but not the end of the world. Starters were disappointing - the 'lamb skewer' featured minuscule bits of lamb and a tiny portion of accompanying sauce - massively overpriced. The other starters were fairly small, but were well presented. The main meals were just 'OK' - but served only just warm (not sure if they had been sat waiting to be served for a while) - but £3.70 for what was a saucer of vegetables (mainly peas) was poor value. Not overly generous on the 'side salad' which again was a shame. Service was very disappointing - we weren't offered any further drinks and we had to ask twice to place a drinks order, despite sitting with empty glasses. Cutlery was odd - served in jugs and the only knifes were steak knifes. We had high hopes for a nice evening here, but left feeling very disappointed and unlikely to return.

Fabulous night with friends. As always gorgeous food and ambience. Attentive and efficient staff. Will always keep returning, cannot recommend highly enough.

We had actually booked a different Italian restaurant for dinner but spotted Prima as we were walking around, looked at their menu and decided to cancel where we’d booked and eat here. We just had a main course each and a bottle of wine, both of which were very good. As I had clams, it would have been nice to have had a bowl for the empty shells instead of having to put them on the table cloth, a finger bowl would have been handy too. Service on the whole was very good, apart from the afore mentioned missing items. The ambience was really good and we were surprised at how busy it was for a Monday evening. Good value for money and we would eat here again should we return to Ripon.

Along with friends we were looking for somewhere for a meal and decided on Prima because of the authentic kerbside appearance. We were delighted that we chose this restaurant, quirky interior with a really good atmosphere. Menu was varied with plenty of choice all at reasonable prices, the quality of the food did not disappoint it was well presented and very tasty. The serving staff were a credit to the owner and the customer service levels were exceptional. We would highly recommend if anyone is looking for authentic italian food at a reasonable price in a super setting😊

Italian style restaurant near the city centre. Pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. Wide ranging menu from grills to pizza and pasta. Good wine list at decent prices. Full house on a Wednesday night, so must be popular with the locals.

Beautiful little restaurant. Loved everything about it. Was looking for a place for dinner in Ripon and came across this real treasure of a place. Absolutely wonderful and my new favourite. The girls they’re all so friendly , engaging and attentive and the food was just delicious, stunning in a way that we won’t forget. I had the farfalle with peas, asparagus and courgette in pesto cream sauce and my sister had the pomodoro. We also shared garlic bread with mozzarella , chips and a side salad. It was everything you could possibly want and more. Such a gorgeous place with a wonderful atmosphere. We will be back again and again. Thank you so much for a really lovely evening. We must be getting too predictable in our old age. We keep choosing the same restaurant in Ripon & pretty well the same meal each time. Upteen visits often with our children & grandchildren, which must make us experts at giving a review 😇. Real skill in the kitchen demonstrated by a light tempura batter coating the calamari, a pizza base that has deep flavour confirmed by my family, who normally leave the crust. Give it a try.

What can I say, Prima is an EXCEPTIONAL place to eat. The staff go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. The restaurant is very cosy , clean and inviting. This was our first time visiting Prima for a sit-down meal. Usually we have just nipped in for a take out Pizza, but this time my partner and I wanted to get the full experience, and we were not disappointed. The food was DELICIOUS. The ladies who served us were absolutely delightful and made conversation and you really felt like they wanted you there as paying customers. My partner and I tipped generously and we left with huge smiles on our faces (as well as full bellies!).

We visited for the early bird menu before going to an event. We didn't have a reservation, and it was busy, but they squeezed us in. The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. We will be back!

We were only in Ripon for two days and called here on the first night, the food was unbelievable good, in fact that good we called back on the second night. Two of the best Italian meals that we have had.

We enjoyed a family meal out here on Saturday evening. The pizzas were fantastic and my sister in law enjoyed her seafood dish. The food and drink was delivered with a smile and everyone was very friendly.

I was in Ripon for a family gathering but had an evening to myself. Prima had been recommended by my cousin and didn’t disappoint. They were able to take a walk in for one, even offering me a choice of tables. Friendly , attentive service and delicious food

I don’t know why we keep coming and this will be our last visit. Service isn’t good. We had to wait 25 minutes for our reserved table. Although to give the manager credit she offered us complimentary starter whilst we waited. Once served we had our order taken, checked on once then plates removed swiftly. After that there was no service. We weren’t offered dessert menu, more drinks or coffee. Braised lamb wasn’t braised, it was a bit dry and chewy. This restaurant used to be thee place to go in Ripon but for the past 4/5 visits, service has been under par. One visit our plates were left in front of us for 40 minutes before they were cleared, and although we tried to get the attention of the staff, they seem more preoccupied with drying cutlery than actually servicing during opening hours.

As fairly regular diners we were curious to see the new look restaurant. Superb food as always - excellent choices and value. However we felt the lighting was a little too bright and abundance of pink and white artificial flowers rather garish. Sadly it seems to us to have lost some of its cosy Italian ambience.

Always try to visit this charming restaurant with a very good kitchen when we're in Riopn. Highly recommended.

Another lovely evening in Prima Pizzeria last night. Warm, welcoming and romantic. The team are so welcoming and helpful. Consistently spot on food and good wine. The lasagna and risotto calabrese.. just amazing! beautifully cooked and presented. So good to have a default local restaurant as good as this. Just lovely.

Went to prima for a bite to eat, was really impressed with how friendly the staff are. The food didn't disappoint either it was amazing, very flavoursome and generous portions. We even had a cheeky cocktail which was lovely. Will definitely be returning and highly recommended this restaurant!.

Absolutely fantastic food, both me and my partner thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The staff managed to make room for us even without a booking and were very friendly. The tiramisu was the best I've ever had!

Pizzas were really good and atmosphere and service excelklent. Small complaint was that wine not available as 125ml which is a bit annoying plus required by law so not good practice.

This is such a lovely little restaurant with good food, but what really made it was how outstanding the waitresses were! They were so helpful amd really did go above and beyond. We were visiting the area and this restaurant was recommended to us by our B&B owners. We were so overwhelmed we visited twice! Fantastic Italian restaurant. It's location is down a lovely cobbled street. Inside you are transported to the Mediterranean such warm friendly welcome and atmosphere. The menu has lots of choice and food is 10 out of 10.The staff are brilliant. If you are going to visit the beautiful city of Ripon I really recommend this restaurant

We’d prebooked due to the excellent reviews on here. We had eaten lunch on the way to Ripon so we weren’t starving. I had an excellent pizza and husband had the sea bass cooked to perfection with huge king prawns surrounding it.Husband had room for dessert, which was a generous portion of tiramisu and I had a coffee, made exactly as I like it.The service from all the girls working that night was attentive and efficient. The bill was very reasonable for the excellent quality food we ate.

Stayed in Ripon 4 days over BH weekend and decided to book this Italian restaurant after reading reviews and glad we did. We had a wonderful meal that was cooked perfectly the flavours were delicious and the portions were substantial I would highly recommend the sardines and lobster linguine both divine the service was great and the staff were very attentive can’t wait to return

Looking for somewhere to eat on a bank holiday weekend in Ripon, noticed the reviews about this place were very good so we called in on the off chance of getting a table for 4.Staff were excellent and we managed to get a table and were told we had about 90 mins until it was needed which was more than enough time.We had 4 starters and 4 mains off the early bird menu which was excellent value.The garlic breads (with and without tomato) were superb and the main courses delightful. Fresh, great ingredients and served quickly and piping hot.Service was great.£61 for the food and a round of drinks.Great place definitely recommend it.

I was booked in with a group of friends, some of whom I had not seen for a while in person because of covid.I ordered from the early bird menu and had the Sardine Arancia followed by the Scaloppa Dijonese with sauté potatoes. I was thinking of having a dessert as well when I arrived but was so full after the very generous portions of these that I had just an Americano coffee instead. Indeed the portions were so generous that some in the party were unable to manage just a main course. A box was provided to allow the remainder of a pizza to be taken home.The Sardine Arancia served 'spatchcock' style in light batter were full of flavour and the various strong flavours in the dish blended extremely well with each other.The sauce that the Scaloppa Dijonese came in was subtly flavoured. However the sauté potatoes were a little dry and this is the only reason why the food has been rated 4* rather than 5*. Given the promptness of the service they might have been cooked a little while in advance and kept warm rather than cooked to order.The service was both friendly and very prompt. Either the kitchen is extremely well organised and run or most of the dishes were almost ready to serve before they were ordered.I would like to return here to sample more of the dishes on the menu.

Booked here after having a day at Lightwater Valley Theme Park with the kids. 1st class start to finish would highly recommend anyone looking for a great Italian meal.

‘Tis rare for me to comment on cafés and restaurants for Tripadvisor when I am not actually on a trip but near home. However, for once, I make an exception …. Looking in Ripon, North Yorkshire, for an early supper I came across Prima Pizzeria in Kirkgate. What a fortunate surprise - and fortuitous too as I had a ‘difficult’ companion. As will be seen from my sparse entries, I travel mainly in Central Europe and The Balkans but sometimes into Italy. I can spot groundless boasts to be ‘authentic’ but not here; this place would not be out of place in a side street in Lucca or Prato. It looks italian but looks are superficial; food and service not. Il capo was welcoming and the staff attentive without being oppressive. My Mediterranean salad was what it claimed - and generous. My companion devoured her pizza with only one(!) criticism: ‘There is too much!’ There was also una piccola delizia: the charming junior waitress (Italian?), endlessly saying Hmm and bobbing like a small bird. Lovely! We were going to the Harrogate a festival. When I left La Prima, I felt I should be en route to a minor opera house to hear Puccini. All this in Ripon would you believe !?!? Go and give it a try.

A fantastic Italian Restaurant, where advance booking is essential. The attached image was taken from outside Prima facing the Cathedral. The food and service at Prima are second to none, and when visiting Ripon I'd gp EVERY time.

Never fails to deliver both good food and service

We were sat by the till, the staff however friendly were crowed around the till to the point you felt like they were joining you for the meal.We ordered a pasta dish and a pizza dish, the pasta was nice the pizza a bit too overpowered by tomato but that was probably an ordering fault.

Wanted an Italian for lunch and the restaurant looked welcoming and reasonably priced. It was all those things and more. Service and staff great. Food fantastic and extremely well priced. Will definitely go again. Very enjoyable lunch.

Had a great starter and meal in here. All good value. My seafood pasta portion was massive. Staff delightful and boss responded courteously to my pidgin Italian. Had a glass of nice Grappa too. Would definitely eat here again.
