I took my wife here while we were traveling from the US. I had the beef bourguignon and she had the risotto seafood. The food was amazing. Th3 staff were all so nice. A guy named Marco spoke to us quite a bit. From the way he looks I guess he's the dishwasher. He was so friendly We hope to visit again some day

Would not recommend, food was good but the waitress who took our order and appeared to be in charge was rude to us and other guests who were walking in, she practically shouted at them that their party of 12 better be 12 and not 14 as they have not got the space for 14 and also shouted at them to shut the front door as it's too windy.. All that could have been said in much different way seeing as they are about to drop a big amount of money on their meals. Not very knowledgeable about the food served either. My partner ordered veal and she asked whether he wanted it rear or well done and he said rear, minutes later the chef then came out the kitchen to ask her why the veal is marked as rear as he can't make it rear if it's so thin. It was a very uncomfortable experience altogether. Also there appeared to be far too many waiting and bar staff behind a tiny bar. Could do with some customer service training and less staff really. The roasted potatoes were really good, but the tomato sauce too sweet and not reduced enough. Overall not great really. Quite sad for a small "family run" business.

Absolutely delightful meal the beef was cooked to perfection the service 1st class and considering how busy it was the wait for food was reasonable,

Second Visit to this restaurant, amazing food, great staff and a really good atmosphere

We had dinner here on a Tuesday night and it was heartening to see the restaurant quite busy. Booking is a good idea. The Italian menu at Mario's is large and generous, and the food was delicious. Cheerful, friendly staff give a genuine welcome. We hope to return to this wonderful restaurant. Lucky Ripon!

This is the second time I’ve been to Marios and again the service was excellent, the food outstanding and the atmosphere exactly as you would expect in a good Italian restaurant, busy and family orientated. Nothing was too much, the staff team are fantastic. Thankyou for a great evening! We will be back again soon.

Visited the restaurant again last night and although busy (which is always good to see in these tough economic times) the service, atmosphere and food were, as always spot on. Nothing too much trouble and I still think their pizza is the best in the city. Keep you the good work Marco and the entire team.

A family restaurant, Excellent food and drink, friendly service.

New Year’s Eve late booking and very lucky to get a table. The restaurant was full but the service was excellent and the food delicious. We can particularly recommend the mussels with tomato starter and the King Prawns & Asparagus risotto main. This is definitely the best Italian restaurant in Ripon. We have eaten here quite often over a number of years and have never been disappointed. Will return again soon.

A lovely meal to make a perfect evening.

We had a lovely Friday night dinner here, a couple of vegan options and welcoming staff. There was a nice atmosphere and my spaghetti pomodoro dish was really good and a generous portion size.

We dined as a party of 7 adults and 6 children for the early bird dinner before the Remembrance event at Ripon Cathdral. I emailed Marco a few times before the day to adjust our booking and send across our menu choices. Marco was very polite, friendly and patient in accommodating our group. The food was delicious, staff were brilliant and the location very handy for the cathedral. We'll be back, thanks Marco!

This is a really excellent restaurant, well worth a visit. We hadn’t booked but they soon found us a table, even though it was really busy. The service was first rate, food delicious, well presented and lovely flavours. I recommended the house wine. Also the staff were extremely accommodating with special dietary needs. All really good value for money and will be returning.

I went there last night with my mum and my son. The food was amazing as always but there was something else that made me leave this review. My son always gets the creamy kids pasta and this time it came with some parsley on top on it. He started saying "mummy I don't like it with these plants" but I wouldn't have asked for the plate to be changed for something like this (I am really not that kind of customer :) A member of staff or the owner (not sure who it was, I do apologise) overheard him and immediately said he will bring another plate as he knows kids don't like parsley. I did say there is no need to do that but he did bring him another plate with no parsley. That was more than kind and the type of customer service that goes a very long way. Thank you very much! We will always come back for the great food and for the lovely people!

Having previously visited here on a trip to Ripon back in March just had to come back again ! The food is genuine Italian and some of the best we have had both in the UK and in Italy ! Staff are excellent and very helpful. Can’t do enough for you. Will definitely be visiting again when next back in Yorkshire

Just had a delightful evening here with excellent food, great ambience and wonderful service. It is the first time here after almost a year of living in Ripon and it will become a regular haunt !

Ripon is very lucky to have a number of really good Italian restaurants- we were impressed with a couple of other places during our stay there but this place was definitely the best for both food and service.

Went to Mario's yesterday and as an Italian I can tell you one thing : they DO serve proper Italian food. Marco, Mario's son spent some time at our table he is adorable and you can tell he is very passionate about what he does. Pasta is cooked al dente, sauces are not greasy and pizzas are top notch 👌 😋 please don't skip this restaurant. Have been regulars here for years because the food, service and atmosphere are amazing. Everything is always spot on and all the team are friendly and helpful, even when they're busy. Definitely book in advance and definitely go to Mario's if you're in Ripon... Just leave a table for us 😁

Absolutely fantastic. Wonderful service and food. We were a party of 15 and everything was perfect. We had a wide range of food including pizza, steak and pasta dishes. All meals were lovely. The service was spot on too.

Great food, we had the set menu option and the starter was huge! I went for mussels and there was plenty. My second course was pasta which looked a little on the small side but in reality more than plenty. I wanted to go for dessert but my belly wouldn’t have it 🤣 absolutely delicious and I’ll probably go back before I leave 🥰

What a lovely restaurant. The staff are friendly, and the ambiance is relaxed. The food is excellent, obviously homemade, and the prices are reasonable. The range of choices and the fact they cater for so many dietary requirements as a matter of course means everyone has plenty to choose from. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Mario's met and exceeded my expectations completely. It looked lovely, warm, and welcoming from the outside, and the menu was impressive, extensive, and really varied, so I was already expecting to enjoy the visit. But the actual experience was absolutely marvellous! Food, service, and ambience were all first class, friendly, and highly recommended. My husband is also gluten-free, which usually adds a note of tension to what he can normally expect in terms of choice and quality. Not the case at Mario's at all. Lots of choices and options and madecwith care and attention to detail. Both meals were a credit to the chef and the kitchen! I watched other people's meals being served, and they also all looked fantastic. I can definitely recommend the linguine with crab and crayfish in saffron, white wine, and chilli sauce. Never tasted any better Italian food anywhere, and I was in Rome just a few weeks ago! It's much cheaper to visit Ripon and have a stroll past the Minster in the evening sunshine and an Aperol Spritz in Mario's! Thank you! We will be coming back with our family soon.

Omg, no words. Amazing We came to ripon one a one night stay and picked this restaurant to eat at. I'm always skeptical at reviews but if anything this place is so UNDERrated. Staff are beyond!! Friendly, even going as far to offer more free steak sauce if needed (we didnt). As a table of six they sat us out the way which was nice as we didn't need to worry about disturbing anyone. The food was INSANELY good! Beyond any italian we have ever visited. Never tasted food so fresh. We are all devastated we don't live closer, the staff would be sick to death of us! Thankyou so much everyone, keep up the amazing work. Also if we won the 50 quid we would put it towards coming back 🤣🤣🤣 (Marco, Sam, Kasha)

Mario’s I believe is now the only Italian restaurant actually owned by Italians in Ripon. It shows as the food is more authentic. Their pizzas and pasta dishes are excellent, and their seafood is superb. Any of their dishes with a tomato based sauce are well worth a try also. This is not the most stylish of interiors if I am honest, and the rear part of the restaurant can have loud acoustics of it is busy, but if you want good food it is the place to go. Their espresso martinis are stand out!

A fantastic restaurant we're glad to have discovered on a recent trip to Ripon. We had a mixture of pizzas and pasta dishes between us and everyone was delighted with their food. The staff were friendly and helpful, service was great. Good value for money too, especially the early bird menu. A special mention for the gluten free pizza base which was very good indeed, and the staff were really helpful in adapting a dish for other food intolerances which is always appreciated.

Discovered Mario's by accident but what a lucky find. My Wife and I found we were early for a function so has a stroll around the city and chanced on this lovely restaurant. The Staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was superb. We have booked again for this Friday.

Yet again this restaurant never disappoints Took advantage of the early bird mid week menu which is excellent value for money - delicious as always. New a La carte menu is also excellent and has something for everyone- well priced drinks and wine menu. The team lead by Marko (the owner) are attentive and welcoming. Cant recommend enough. No room for pudding sadly. Lasagne was rich and satisfying. Mussels in tomato and chilli sauce to die for and stuffed aubergine from the specials board very good.

The food and service were very good .

We often go as a family of 7 so try get there for early bird as its often amazing value and the food is incredible, Unfortunately after the pipes leaked and the cost of food increasing the last time we went wasn't the same as there was no bread offered and the early bird no longer get a side. These 2 little things really made Mario's stand out from the other places in Ripon. Saying that the staff are still amazing and the food is also very very good. We will visit again but where as before we would only eat here we will probably eat elsewhere aswell.

Staff are very attentive and welcoming. The food is divine. We had the lamb shank and fillet steak. Beautiful wine. And great choice of liqueurs and coffee. Will be back!

Visited for first time on Wednesday. This was a Birthday Treat. I was not disappointed. We were warmly greeted upon arrival. The food was excellent. The staff attentive but unobtrusive. A thoroughly enjoyable evening. Well Done Mario's.

Mario's is a great restaurant. I've been going intermittently for around ten years, with family, friends or on my own. The food is always of high quality and there's a wide choice. The early bird menu has an impressive selection and the regular menu isn't much more in price. Mario's is straightforward, welcoming, no nonsense and with excellent food. Just like a hidden backstreet restaurant in Rome. I will always go when in Ripon - nowhere else gets considered.

A lovely greeting from very friendly staff on our second visit in as many weeks at this great restaurant. Our first visit with family had us all waddling out, stuffed, and our second visit gave the same result with very tasty food and great service in a happy atmosphere. Nice of the owner to try and dictate my score-id give a zero if I could as I didn't get the food I ordered (spicy) which the owner thinks is a minor issue, coupled with minute serving of ice cream! It's hardly minor not getting what you asked for.Take responsibility, don't try and blame me!! Next step trading standards so you change the name of the dish First of all the staff are all lovely and deserve 5 stars each. However I ordered the linguine vulcano which is supposed to have chilli in it and asked for it has hot as you like. Whilst the dish did taste nice, you cannot call something vulcano, advertise chilli, and make it less spicy than a can of tomato soup! The second issue I have is the miniscule portion of ice cream I received for my dessert. One scoop, a very small scoop at that, and smaller than the child's portion served to our table! Also the noise was horrendous, if you want a quiet table to able to talk to, and hear, your dinner companions this is not the place for you. You need to vastly improve the amount of chilli and ice cream you serve (if larger portions were available they were not offered).

We had king prawn and linguine which was good but could have had more overall flavour. and a pizza which was fine but perhaps too large for me. Is it critical to comment on dishes being too big though!

Marios is a fantastic place, food it's great, staff and atmosphere is fab to. We use this restaurant regularly & through various lockdowns when open. We've eaten a lot of the menu from pizzas to fillet steaks and it never misses. Try it, you won't be disappointed. 10/10 from a family of four! 🔥

We had mixed experience. One course excellent, another average, the third deficient. Complained that element of third dish under cooked. Waitress said she would tell management / chef but no apology.

We were not impressed this evening, under cooked beef, no finesse and a bland overly buttered chicken breast. Yes they agreed needed to be sent back but it never tastes the same second time served. Can’t recommend and won’t be returning.

We booked Mario's for the first night of our holiday in Ripon. The menu was extensive with lots of choice and the food was delicious and good value for money. The restaurant was busy with a good atmosphere and the service was excellent.
