Cosy, friendly cafe with delicious food at reasonable prices, and very dog-friendly - perfect place to meet friends for lunch.

Lovely coffee and delicious pastries (cream scone and almond croissant). Lots of options in Burford but we were very happy we chose this cafe.

I just popped on for a coffee and was tempted to a delicious cake. The staff were friendly and very helpful. It was the end of October and the place was absolutely buzzing. I also ordered a ham salad roll to take away and the roll was fresh, it was absolutely stuffed full of ham and salad. Absolute value for money and delicious. No hesitation, would revisit.

The Little Bakery was selected for a light lunch during a break in the Cotswolds, it did not disappoint. We both had gourmet sandwiches: cheese & ham and a mozzarella, pesto & tomato. Both were served with potato crisps and a dressed salad. The sandwiches were toasted and delicious. Service was quick and friendly and I have no hesitation in recommending the Little Bakery

Poor value, stopped for lunch and ordered 2 salads, £6.90 each , egg mayo and tuna mayo, both arrived with 2 pieces of tomato and cucumber, no mayo with tuna and salad leave which were not edible as had not been washed and were gritty , table had crumbs and cutlery dirty, very disappointing

I’m a local, I love this cafe/bakery. I recommend it lots and they all love it too. The worst thing about this place is deciding what to have. Each time I’ve been, it’s been warm & cosy with great atmosphere, food and coffee is always spot on, it’s so friendly from staff to customers in my experience. If you’re visiting the Cotswolds this is a great place to have a cuppa, good luck deciding what to have.

Nice setting in the outside courtyard. Sadly that was the best bit. Girl on the counter was clueless & disinterested, tables left uncleared & crummy. Cutlery was filthy - my absolute pet hate! Wasn’t as if it was very busy. Very disappointing.

We were visiting the area and, after wandering around the town, popped in here for a drink. As soon as we saw the freshly baked pastries and cakes on display, I knew that my friend and I would find it hard to resist and so it was that we ended up sharing a frangipane with our teas (ordinary breakfast tea for me, raspberry and cranberry fruit tea for my friend). Staff were helpful and brought two forks and two plates. The teas were refreshing and the frangipane was very nice, although half was quite sufficient for me. It’s a small cafe, and there’s only a few tables inside, but it’s a good place to stop for a drink and a snack. There’s also a toilet which we used and which was fine.

Small area inside for eating and an outside eating area too. We were on holiday and we stopped off in Burford to do a little shopping. We called in the Bakery on the hill . The staff were very pleasant and the scones and coffee we had were delicious. We called in a couple of times more through the week because we really liked the cafe and the food. We bought a couple of traditional pasties for the trip home and they were delicious too and went down a treat. Highly recommend if your in the area.

We had coffee, petal cake and millionaires Shortbread. The Shortbread was thin and needed more chocolate. But the petal cake at an astonishing £5.60 was so dry as to make it inedible. We did point this out and were offered something else. When we politely declined, no refund was offered and the cake was not removed from sale. A shame as repeat business is unlikely without due care and attention to detail.

We live in Oxfordshire and have visited this café several times. There are inside and outside seating options. Inside there are only four or five small tables downstairs but there may be upstairs seating. On this occasion, several of the tables were left uncleared and unwiped for the whole of the time we were in there (about 40 minutes). We used a paper napkin to wipe our table ourselves. People were coming in and not knowing where to sit because of the state of the tables. Also, there was a woman at another table with the biggest dog we had ever seen - despite there being outside seating where most dog owners go. Had he been a quiet dog it would not have been an issue but his bark was intrusive. Is there a problem with the café persuading customers with dogs to sit outside? I don't think you would lose customers. I had a raisin Danish and my companion had an almond Danish. Neither were freshly made that day and very disappointing. On a positive note, on the occasions when the lardy cake is on offer, it is the best I have ever had. Sorry to be negative but on this visit the café could have done much better and there is plenty of competition in Burford. Please do not blame staff shortages for sloppy service.

My wife and I stopped by this morning on our way through Burford. A stone-walled alley led to a sunlit garden, with practical metal chairs and tables, and more than sufficient space to be comfortable. The limited menu was more than sufficient, with the sausage and bacon cooked to perfection, and the lightly toasted, home-baked cob roll a delight. With freshness you would pay for in other establishments, this simple home-cooked fare was outstanding in value, quality and service. The icing on the cake: our waitress, (Eleanor, I think?) served us with a natural professionalism and care you would find hard to beat. It’s easy to say that “waiting staff are just that…” but from a lifetime of experience, I have had my experience of bad waiters and waitresses. Eleanor was a cut above the rest. Charismatic, attentive, and engaging, she rounded out the whole experience. High-quality food, a fantastic waitress, great value, and a lovely venue. If you’re travelling through Burford, I’d highly recommend the Bakery on the Hill.

Bakery on the hill really made my Cotswolds experience so much better and I will definitely be visiting again. The staff were so lovely and polite and the food and drink came out one time with high quality. The place was sparkling clean and once again I couldn’t ask for nicer people to serve the food in the bakery.

As a Black Caribbean family we were made to feel unwelcomed. We went into bakery on the hill and asked for a table of 4. We were told there was none so we ordered and prepared to leave. As we were leaving, it started to rain so we stepped back inside. We then noticed that there was a table for 4 so we sat down and began to make ourselves comfortable. I was preparing to order some coffees, juices- I was even going to order a cream tea when we were asked to leave. I told the lady that we were planning to order teas but by then I just wanted to get out. Sadly unconscious bias continues to pervade our society. You assumed the worst. You assumed we were not ordering. You didnt come and ask if we were ordering- you came to take back the table. You just couldn't wait or give us a chance. Shame on you bakery on the hill! I hope you and your family are never made to feel this way. You surely ruined our cotswold experience!

OMG the Eccles cakes are the best I've ever tasted and I have made Eccles myself for over a decide and am very fussy. The bread also and the Danish all excellent the Eccles just gave it though reaching the dizzying perfection for appearance texture smell and taste. I only had one issue which was I bought a cheese and onion pasty and when I got home and cut into it to share with someone it was steak. So they got to have it all as I am not a meat eater. So I suggest they make clearer marks on the pasty to identify the meat from the cheese.

A very cosy environment and a busy atmosphere gave the Fleece a really nice buzz. There was some big tables in enjoying Xmas work meals and so we were advised that service may be a little slower but in fact everything went very smoothly. The staff were all very friendly and professional despite being busy All the food was delicious, the service excellent and the choice of 0% beer very good! Portions were decent, there were some nice ‘gastro’ touches like the crisp chicken skin accompanying the Chicken Schnitzel and the truffle mayo. And the Tiramisu was stunning! All in all, great food, friendly service and a cosy venue
