Bailey's Fish and Chips in East Riding of Yorkshire

Visited here as a family and the food was not great. Could you see what we were likely getting as no food in the counter, when it arrived, batter was soggy but overcooked, chips we’re okay, but loads of sharp scraggy bits included, pretty pale. Peas were cold, and not very nice, all of it smelled like dirty/unclean oil. Won’t be going back when we visit again, and if you’re thinking of going here, keep walking into the town for an alternative

I can say no more than awful chips tasted stale fish was freshly cooked but still no so nice spam fritter was disgraceful was like a slice of packet ham in thin batter and the so called gravy was like brown water.

Overpriced rubbish food, children's hot dogs arrived & the bread was completely blue and green underneath- full of mould. I informed the waitress who said I'll tell them & then another woman come out, no apology whatsoever other than saying they will cook them it again. We stood up & left as we couldn't get at ours after that. Appalling customer service, dirty toilets & rotten food

Absolutely rank food under cooked staff really bad leaning on the till set up to eat in on cardboard trays no cutlery or condiments on tables better on fish still batter stay away

The staff seemed so uninterested, they looked like they needed a good bath. The fish was very over cooked, that well cooked it melted the plastic fork! The cans of pop said part of a multi pack, not for resale. The bins were overflowing, but even the seagulls were not interested. Overall absolutely rubbish.

Absolutely disgusting. The fish was a large fish £7 pound od I have had more fish in a sausage roll. Chips must have been three days old. It was absolutely disgusting. What a waste of £17

The food itself was ok, though we only got 4 portions of chips to take away The service however was absolutely shocking and the worst I have ever encountered. One guy frying away, a young girl and then two ladies on the counter. One lady, who presented herself as the boss of the show was possibly the worst example of customer service and management I have ever witnessed. Constantly snapping at staff to hurry up/ move out of the way. Foul mouthed rants and shouting at everyone working there in front of a shop full of waiting customers and children. I live and work in a busy seaside town and know the stresses of a busy tourism spot (a hell of a lot busier that withernsea)! and have never ever witnessed anything like it in my life. Owner, manager, whatever she was, Take note; Screeching at your staff and belittling them is not the way to treat them nor get the most out of them at work and certainly not how you should behave in front of customers! We visit withernsea a couple of times a year but won’t be returning to baileys again. If the young girl working for you was my daughter I would be absolutely furious at what she was subjected to!

You would think that a seaside chippy would be able to knock out a good portion of fish and chips but from walking in and smelling the air I know it wasn't going to end well and should have trusted that. Food came quickly with more than polite and friendly service but was not what I would call nice was clearly old oil and low quality ingredients. This showed in the taste and aftertaste. Would not recommend

With this fish and chip shop you get wot you pay four and that is bargain basement quality fish and chips I'm afraid with the fish being Pollack which is the cheapest fish on the market and is used by a lot of fish and chip shops coning people and pretending that it is something else and chips and blue chips our awful and soggy as well

Very poor service, instead of shouting an order number the staff just shout fish and chips by however many on the order, doesn't really narrow it down for the customers waiting ! Had to ask for salt and vinegar 3 times which was obviously too much effort for the server. Food disappointing not worth the 30 minute wait. Suggest try elsewhere !

Staff utterly miserable and rude. No system for recognizing people’s orders, which meant staff screaming “fish n chips” in a chip shop left 30 people waiting for their order in utter confusion. Staff muttering behind the counter “can’t wait for this to be over”. If you don’t want it to be busy, don’t open a chip shop 50 meters from a British beach? To top it off, food tasted like a washed up flip flop, zero flavour. Don’t visit here, plenty of other nice welcoming people in Withernsea.

Really nice fresh fish, good value and lots of choice kids loved it would definitely go again. Amazing icecream too

Wonderful fish chips and peas. All freshly done and great customer service. Very busy, a longish wait,but worth the wait. Working really hard so you can all still enjoy fish and chips!

The food was cheap and there were vegetarian options. However, the food didn’t look very appetising, and we weren’t given sufficient cutlery. You are given the wooden ‘fork’ pictured which is okay for chips but very difficult to eat anything else with. An okay lunch if you’re not looking for anything special but I wouldn’t visit again

had fish and chips to eat in the feeding paddock he has created, its grubby and inhabited by a huge advertising fish that is a joke because the fish is a small bit with loads of batter to make it look bigger, the batter tastes burnt and greasy and the chips are just about ok, I wouldn't bother visiting unless you can climb over the mass of crapy advertising boards and stupid fish and chef that block half the footpath on the street, the lifeboat is a better choice to sit in or the golden hadock to takeaway, and the sunshine Caf do nice fish and chips also.

Poor quality potatoes used. Everything was very greasy. Potato scallops were nice but again very greasy. 1.20 for a can of pop is very steep

Took my kids n mrs for some scran had fish chips battered sausage n nuggets. Couldn’t complain really good and has an upstairs you can sit and enjoy the view. Mushy peas was probably the best I’ve had. Friendly staff too

I had to ask young lady if she was serving as i approched the till because she couldnt even acknowledge me stood if from of her! Dont know what you have to do to get a plate to eat from but it was not forthcoming. Fish tasted off Chips were ok, its a shame it looked a nice place on the surface.

These was the worst fish and chips I have ever had in my life. I wish it was an exaggeration, but my stomach is in upraw with what I out in thought.

Visited for lunch,very disappointing after hearing advertised on local radio has a fabulous fish and chip restaurant.was served meals in a polystyrene tray,had to get salt and vinegar from counter.Nothing on table,had to ask for serviettes after meal.Had coffee with sugar must have used same spoon in the tea because my wife could taste sugar in her non sugar tea.usually go to lifeboat fish restaurant and wish ide gone there again.

On arrival had to wait for sausage & chips, after 15 mins wait we were shocked at the quality of the chips. A horrible dark brown appearance & crispy. Sausage was edible. Had to go elsewhere as were still hungry.

Very poor fish and chips with a very long wait at this takeaway. Very overcooked too. Portion size of this medium size was just average. Wish we hadnt have bothered there to be honest

We had fish and chips here today as a family. Staff were friendly and the food was nice. The only down side was the fish was very very greasy.

Stopped off for lunch and sat upstairs on the terrace. The service was a little slow but freshly cooked so that was good. Prices were a little expensive but the food was nice and hot.

10/10 for cleanliness always very clean

Jamón y queso sandwichera 3 libras. 10, comparado a la cafetería de al lado de £1. 95! ! ! A la 1:00 p.m. sólo servían pescado y patatas fritas no estaban preparados para cocinar cualquier cosa, aun tenía el último queso sandwichera! ! Cuando el precio del personal cuestionamiento era extremadamente grosero y para nada servicial. El gerente de supuestas necesidades no andando, cuando hablo sobre los precios y darse cuenta de que toda la comida que pedimos debe llegar en la mesa al mismo tiempo, y no en diferentes ocasiones cuando hay una familia que quiera sentarse y comer al mismo tiempo. Si no son capaces de organizar la comida al mismo tiempo, quizá usted no debe ser en negocios.

Realmente me apetecía pescado y patatas fritas en pescado llamado baileys y chips al lado de la cafetería. 2 x el pescado y patatas fritas. Cuando los recibí me parecía muy bien hecho. Se sabía aún peor el pescado era duro y las patatas fritas eran duras pero parecía quemada. Me quejé y no obtuvimos una disculpa. El propietario quedó allí tirando de mi pescado aparte con sus dedos tratando de decirme que no refry peces. Nunca volveré. Y a la izquierda con 10 libras perdido un terrible sabor de boca.

I like Baileys - great choice of Breakfasts available including one with Spam and that's the one that gets my vote! Considering that you get a mug of tea and toast and it's only £3.20 all in... it's cracking value!

Visitamos aquí en nuestra primera visita a Withernsea, y no me impresionó mucho. Fuimos allí y me dijeron que en 1 hora que cerca era suficiente. Así que 5 de nosotros se sentaron a comer. La comida llegó después de esperar 40 minutos y mi scampi fue quemado de un fresco que cuando algo en él no había nada. Luego, cuando me quejé el personal la joroba porque tenían para refrescar algunos frescos y así mientras mi comida era recooking desde recién decidieron la cerca y nos dejó aquí desiertas mientras ellos comieron todos en la cocina. El personal era lamentable y dinero agarrando muy caro y la comida es parte tamaño niño ridículo. Nunca más.

To say you are on the coast and you should always have fish and chips. These where the worst I have ever had. Service not great but not the worst either. Don't waste you money!!

Tasteless fish and waited for ever for our food and when my fish arrived there was no chips because it doesn't come with chips only wedges. Fish Goujons was not fresh but frozen fish.

Went in with family because kids said it had to be fish and chips on first day of holiday staff didn't seem like they wanted to be there and food took what seemed like an age to be served Kids got so bored waiting especially the 3 year old. Stayed away rest of the week

Ate here with family, long wait for fish but generally lovely fish and option to eat inside or out. Lovely kiddie benches outside. Had to clean table ourselves so maybe an extra pair of hands required for a 5 star rating.

Bank holiday Monday, 29/8/16. Family wanted quick bite to eat, nephew said it had to be fish & chips at the seaside. Thought Bailey's was going to be okay, we could sit outside as we have a dog. Outside area looked a bit grotty, not well kept. Went inside, not a big queue. Was told by girl behind counter they were waiting for everything. We asked how long? She couldn't tell us, her attitude and manner was awful. The counter looked as though it could do with a good clean. We said it didn't look very clean and said we wouldn't wait, to which she replied 'oh shut up'. So we went to The Golden Haddock, which was clean & food was nice. Sat on a wall opposite Bailey's in the sunshine and enjoyed our chips.

Lovely take away fish and chips cooked to order, with space to eat inside or outside Excellent service, child friendly. Just delicious! .What more do you want!..

I went into the restaurant, fast service But i thought the food might be served on an actual place instead of the plastic trays as you cant cut the fish as they break easy. But its an alright fish shop.

Lovely breakfasts at a good price... everything is included hot drink, toast and of course the excellent waiting staff... all freshly made to order.

Just a day out in withernsea Gorgeous fish and chips served with tea and peas sat inside to eat. Staff could be a little more attentive but great value overall

Travelled from Buckinghamshire to visit friends, we all wanted a typical fry up and that's exactly what we got. Lovely food, quick service and staff friendly. Would definitely recommend this place

Never had an issue before and did not this time... to imressive breakfasts served with piping hot tea and a smile... Excellent!

We wanted some fish and chips on a Sunday while visiting withernsea. I didn't realise how small a place it was but also lack of eateries we found baileys and it looked pleasant and clean so decided to order some cod and chips. It says cooked from fresh - always a good sign so I thought I stood back prepared to waIt 10 mins but it was ready after 3 mins!! First thoughts were the batter is very dark and the fish very thin. The fish was plonked on top of the equally dark brown chips. If you wanted a decent take away box you had to pay 20p for it!! After putting salt and vinegar on them we proceeded to eat it. This fish was saturated with oil it was not cooked fresh as it was chewy not crispy that went straight in the bin outside (which happened to be full of half eaTen food ) I then ate s few chips. They were dark brown oily and limp. They also went in the bin I should have gone back to complain but it was only 2 young girls cooking and serving so we didn't bother. I would avoid this place at all costs the fish is NOT cooked fresh more like refried and I have my doubts that it was cod by the texture of it. Not a good experience at all and a waste of £10.

maybe its because of the time of year (out of season) but I can honestly say it was the worst fish and chips my family and I have had the misfortune to eat. we were terrified we were going to get food poisoning. the chips were cold and stale and the fish which took 3 mins to cook must have been re-heated.

Called in for lunch while on a day out at Withernsea. Extremely good value, plentiful & tasty food, good service, atmosphere fair. We had pie & chips, fish & chips, Sausage in Yorkshire pud & we all enjoyed them, good seaside food, shame Withernsea was the deadest place ever or we would go to Baileys again.

We stumbled across this little place during a visit recently. The outside is small and attractive so we stepped inside to a cafe which went back quite a way, with seating for maybe 50 or more, for both couples and family groups. We ate a hearty brunch which kept us going for ages. Our order was attractively prepared and served quickly by staff who obviously were dedicated to making sure their customers were looked after.

Have to say that the breakfasts are great for just £2.75 each - yes they do a bigger breakfast for those with a healthy appetite but the small breakfast is enough to satiate a normal appetite! Well worth a visit :)

I ordered fish and chips from here the other day and it tasted rancid I am sorry to say it wasn't the best.It tasted of dirty chip fat and wasn't nice at all.I definitely won't be paying another visit here as it had a funny taste and went straight in the bin.Avoid at all costs!!

Great food.and the fish &chips best in Withernsea.we eat hear a lot. Never once been disappointed. Very nice breakfast too.

The food is excellent and it is very keenly priced! £2.75 for breakfast with tea and toast is great in my books at any time - highly recommended JUST one piece of advice sit inside as the outside area was full of smokers who had eaten but just wanted a ciggy - would make eating there very uncomfortable for me :( hence why I marked it down a point,

We went into this modernised cafe which is really clean. they had lots of efficient and helpful staff . i had the offer which was a small breakfast with tea and toast included for £2.75!! It came well cokked and hot . My wife had beans on toast and a cold water (came icy cold) and it all cost arouyng £5 to eat at the seaside. Toilets were clean and you could see the kitchens which were also clean. Very happy with it will call again.

My husband and I had the best Fish and Chips EVER here! It was so good we came back twice on our 4 day stay in London. We visited back in November of 2014. The piece of fish was gigantic, moist on the inside, and perfectly crisped on the outside. The seating is tight, but worth it!! I drool just thinking about this place.

Visited last weekend, a excellent family run Cafe, full English breakfast for less than £4.00 with tea or coffee, freshly cooked , other peoples food looked Amazing, the prices are worth every penny if not more definitely will go back again and again.There is also a little cafe selling tea, coffee sandwiches, cake etc in Cowden, but its not listed as yet, lovely people lovely food.

We called here for fish and chips they were not of the best quality and we have had a lot better else where.Nice clean shop.

Found ourselves in Withernsea and needed a quick bite to eat. As we had parked near this place and wanted to be outside we decided to give it a go, 3 adults 5 kids and 1 dog.Despite been the only people in this place we asked for the table to be wiped outside as it was covered in drops of gravy and someone had spilt a can of coke over it. This was soon done, but why did we have to ask. We placed the order of fish and chips all round, tea for the adults and fruit shoots for the kids "Fruit shoots went out of date 6 weeks ago, so were selling them off for 20p" What a delight!!!The fish was supposed to be fresh but was over cooked in batter that so so so greasy and sticky. The chips were horrid, even the dog refused to have one.Why is it some east coast seaside towns are thriving and some are clearly still on the down? Come on guys, try harder, its not just down to the council to rejuvinate what use to be a fabulous seaside town!!! Surely the cafe bars, pubs, restaurants, B&B's etc need to try as well?

-restaurant outside seating attracted my attention on a blue spring lunchtime-small portion of fish & chips was in fact quite large!-a delicate and lovely thin batter covering succulent fish-chips very chunky and very brown-delicious & 'very different fish & chips' to say the least-I wasn't disappointed with my choice & -an ideal bikers pit stop & great Friday lunch-highly recommended
