I have never been made so unwelcome in a restaurant in my life. Whilst it was during Cowes week, they welcomed us when we wanted to eat and could not get us out quickly enough when we finished. I actually raised it with them, and they acknowledged that they wanted us out. I will not be back and would recommend others to go to different curry houses, which frankly, offer better food.

We love this little gem of a tandoori restaurant. Whenever we stay in Wales we eat here as the atmosphere is amazing, the staff are great, friendly and very happy, helpful and smile even when run off their feet. Everybody should visit these guys and enjoy the whole experience. Such a little gem of a restaurant on Newtown. Raki (I think his name is) is an absolute credit to the front of house and always has a huge smile on his face, along with two other staff. They had a young boy on work experience who was absolutely loving shadowing the staff and learning about customer service.

Visited this restaurant as part of our holiday in the Isle of Wight and we were not disappointed. Huge choice of different curries, side dishes and good condiments, if I visit Cowes again I would definitely return. If you want wine, beer or spirits you do need to take your own but very reasonable prices and delicious food, thank you.

The Bahar is a typical older style Tandoori restaurant. Worn patterned carpet, artex walls, red paper tablecloths etc . Not very large and tables quite close together. Friday night it was quite busy and lively, but still got served quite quickly. Manager/boss very welcoming. Good poppadaoms and pickle tray. Very good Chicken Kahari and Chicken Saag, with generous amounts of chicken. Only soft drinks available, but you can BYO, beer, wine etc if you want. Went back on a Tuesday and very quiet. Waiter was bored/underemployed and was pacing up and down, and very quick to clear empty dishes from the table, which was not very relaxing. Lamb Saag was good. I tried a Chicken Sylet curry, which I had not had before . Not so keen on the taste and the 'Bangladeshi Vegetables' with it seemed to be tomatoes and cucumber. Not cheap by any means, considering the low rent interior, but fine for what it is.

As somebody who eats Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani food exceedingly regularly, whilst visiting Cowes, I thought it would be good to visit a curry house. The menu choice was varied, the food was fabulous, and the service was excellent. Although it’s not on the menu, I would recommend asking for the keema rice, which was the best I’ve had in a few years. The food was quick to be served; exceedingly tasty; the right heat (the naga I had was spot on in its fiery nature); the chicken tikka was melt-in-the-mouth soft; and the naan breads were super fluffy. If you’re in Cowes, and you enjoy subcontinent food, I highly recommend the Bahar Tandoori. Finally, the price was exceedingly reasonable. Please be aware, this is a bring your own alcohol restaurant, but I don’t tend to drink alcohol when eating Indian food anyway, so that wasn’t an issue for me.

As the kids were out, me and my wife went to Bahars for a curry in peace and quiet. We have been coming to Bahars for years and it always brings back happy memories for us both and Abdul certainly didn't let us down this time either! We had an extra hot Lamb Jalfrazi, Chicken Madras with Pilau and Special Rice. We also pushed the boat out with a Garlic Naan and Onion Bhajis, along with Abduls Mixed Pickle. All absolutely gorgeous and washed down with a Shiraz and a Beer as you can take your own alcohol. We ate everything and the plates could have been put straight back in the cupboard! Not a morsal left. If you love curry, I highly recommend Bahars, I honestly cannot find better, anywhere. Absolutely fantastic 20 years on! Really good Covid precautions. Per Ardia 96

Walking upstairs I found to dingy rooms, and tables with no name reservations on so I had no idea what table was ours. The decor was early 1990's with unhygienic carpet throughout, dirty walls, and dated table and chairs. The staff were rude and seemed rushed, very sloppy when serving and disorganised. This place is dreadful. We were told to book in advance for an unknown reason, there were plenty of tables and people were just turning up.The service was extremely slow and my wife ordered a drink which never turned up despite the staff being reminded three times. There was a table behind us occupied by noisy drunks, most of them being half-witted shrieking women and the management did nothing to curb their disgraceful behaviour. When the food eventually turned up it was acceptable but did not conform to the description in the menu, in fact both dishes were identical despite the fact that we had ordered different things. The owners of this place need to get their act together otherwise the business will fail. Don't go to this place unless that happens, there must be better elsewhere.

The decor might not have changed in 20 years, but who cares, it still seems to be the best place to get an authentic Curry in Cowes. They use fresh herbs and the dishes are all individual. We always marvel at the enormous pictures of Richard Branson adorning the walls of the restaurant and it does feel like a 'good old fashioned curry house'. Having revisited recently after eating here on and off since it opened, it appears Mr Bahar has still got it. In fact, the meal we had on Saturday was better than the one we had about 9 months ago. Perhaps they have upped their game now their main competition has changed hands. You need to book if you go at the weekend and be sure to try a Korai, spinach Bhaji, Special mixed rice, garlic naan or a Chicken Passanda. I'm feeling hungry just writing this, I'll be going back soon :-) Oh and it's BYO drinks too - a bit of a bonus!

My wife and I have been eating here for the last 17 years. Made the big mistake of trying another indian restaurant a couple of weeks ago...never again, will always be loyal to Abdul Bahar from now on!We visited Bahars last week and as always received the high standard of service we have become accustomed to. Our meal included starters, mains and finished with coffee. Food was well presented, hot and on time. On the night, there was a shortage of staff but the staff worked very hard to compensate, well done. A member of our party who does not like food to be too hot or too spicy was recommended the Lamb Shashlic (excuse the spelling!); he was very impressed with the dish. My personal favourite over the years is the Lamb Jalfrazi, a good balance of spice & flavour. Abdul's Lime Pickle is second to none. Over the years I have honestly had little to complain about and when I have it has been quickly rectified. Outstanding Halal Tandoori restaurant. I must start by saying that the food was very nice, but that's the end of the good news. The waitor that served us really did not want to be there, and made sure that his customers knew it. When after 10 mins he'd taken our food order we asked for drinks, an orange juice and lemonade plus a beer, we were told that the OJ & L was ok but they didn't do beer and he walked off. We called him back and asked for two OJ & L. I then watched him poor the lemonade out of a bottle from which he drank the remainder straight from the bottle! Not acceptable! There are 3 Indian restaurants within 50 yards of each other in Cowes, not knowing any of them we applied the 'go to the one that had people in it' rule. I would not recommend this restuarant to anyone and would prefer eating ready made Indian meals from a supermarket in my own home to eating at the Bahar Tandoori again. Bahar looks very much a typical 1980's indian, a little shabby round the edges but luckily the menu is not stuck in the past and the food was really good with generous non pretentious portions. they don't serve alcohol(bring your own) but we enjoyed our meals and would probably choose this restaurant over the other two in Cowes.

This was an awful meal. The Bombay aloo and tarka dall tasted sour and rancid, the lamb rogan was tough as boot leather and the chicken tandoori could have been a rats leg.Such a disappointing meal.

We ordered a takeaway and maybe it was a bad night for them, but I'm convinced whatever they cooked the food in, it'd gone off. I ordered bombay potatoes and a chicken korai and both tasted really sour. A real shame. The only edible thing was the peshwari naan which was delicious.

Arrived on a Tuesday evening, just one person serving- except he wasn't really interested as he spent about 40 minutes chatting on his mobile phone with occasional interruptions. Two other people arrived and when the waiter aked them what they wanted to order, they said a menu would be a good start! This was the first time there has only been one member of staff serving, in all the years we have visited and there needs to be much more attention to customer service. The food was, as usual, good.

Nice guys but very average food. All the same, seemed like the sauce all came from the same pot. Quite bland tasting sadly.

The picture of Richard Branson in the window and inside the restaurant drew us in. The king prawn puree was lovely, the chicken tilapia okay but a bit salty and not much tika flavour. We both had a madras curry, which probably pleased the restaurant as we were the only diners although a lot of takeaway orders coming in. The mushroom fried rice ok as was the naans. Service good. No wine list, we had water as driving but apparently the staff will pop to the local supermarket to get you wine. Not the best but very enjoyable.

What a surprise!! We have struggled to find any Indian food in Cowes up to our high standard since moving here last year!!Thought we would risk a takeaway tonight and wow!! Food was so delicately spiced that we were in heaven. Will make this our dine out next time and hope to use it regularly...Time they had a licence......

a wee bit shabby but serving the best indian food on the high street i reckon - but the best bit which isnt advertised is that you can take your own wines - beers etc - & if you dont have any with you a man will go out and buy it for you at the local supermarket!

Always enjoy visiting this restaurant. Tasty and good indian food is difficult to find on the Isle of Wight, but this is the best choice in Cowes. Food has been fantastic every time we have gone! We like the atmosphere and it's nice that you can bring your own bottle of wine. The atmosphere has a nice, very dated feel to it - nothing special, but sweet if you don't judge too much. We go back often!

me and a few friends were celebrating my 22nd birthday and decided to have an Indian takeaway.I arrived at the Bahar and was greeted with vicious glares from the waiter as I took my seat.I ordered the beef madras with the keema naan and the mushroom rice.I was enjoying my meal until I came across a large lump of faeces swimming in my dish. As I stabbed my fork into is thinking it was a tender bit of beef I swiftly realised it wasn't as I took a bite. IT WAS A POO FROM THOSE DIRTY BASTARDS!ILL NEVER FORGET THAT DAY !!!!

Just went for dinner, it was pretty disgusting. The butter chicken was tasteless and swimming in melted butter, the chicken itself was rubbery and very salty. Also, portions were tiny and served on oven plates, which was pretty strange.I wouldn't eat here again or recommend it to anyone!

Check that bill folks, we found items we had not had and refused to pay bill, we only paid for what we had ordered and eaten, This led to an aggressive argument with waiting staff, with an independent customer threatening to call the police as they felt the restaurant insisting we paid for food we had not received was illegal! will never use again. We are now regulars at Cowes Tandoori, who also allow you to bring your own drinks and have banquet nights, the service is excellent and the food great.I would not recommend this place with the current waiting staff.

Had a takeaway last time. Never went back. They missed the rice with the curry. After driving home 5 miles when I opened the bag it was very dissappointing. Phoned them hoping if i could arrange a delivery for the rice they said driver was not available therefore it should only be collected. I chose to eat the curry with bread I had in the fridge. Never going back !

Our last night on the IOW spoilt by this dire takeaway. If it wasn't that we got a taxi back to our digs so returning it would have cost even more... Barely tepid naan, items missing from my order, stale poppadums, very poor quality chicken used ..... but the icing on the cake was that I was overcharged. Give it a miss folks unless you like poorly cooked food, high bills [£24 for a modest takeaway for two - "with discount Sir'] and an insincere welcome.... Sorry but that's the way it was....

Expensive takeaway of average quality. Food & Hygiene Rating 2!! Only saw this when I went to collect the food, if I knew that I would have avoided. Avoid the onion bhaji it was like eating fried hay. The chicken chat puri was a tika version with a very sad looking and unappetising salad. The best dish was the Lamb jalfresi which tasted very nice. The Nans were of a good size and cooked well. Having lived in India and Nepal I’m used to making my own curries, but I was tired and thought I’d treat myself. Prices were steep for an Indian takeaway compared to London but I thought judging by the area of Seaview the food quality would also reflect the prices, not so. Glad that I didn’t eat inside, there is no atmosphere at all whatsoever and no one in sight, very strange.

Tasty take away , freshly cooked decent quality ingredients not oily, delivered hot.

Vegetarian options are very poor. Veg Korma and Veg Masala, basically potato in a sugary sauce. Very inauthentic, any flavour overwhelmed by the sweetness.

Had a take away while on holiday. It was by far the absolute worst Indian food we have ever had. We spent £88 for four people and threw away £80 pounds worth. Please never order from these people. It was disgusting

What a great Indian Restaurant ! Meant to write a review after visiting 4 months ago but circumstances took over. We are on a mission to dine at every Indian restaurant on the Island, rate and review them, so far 10 down and this ranks right up there with the best, on our scale coming in at a 9.5. Visited on a Wednesday night and surprised to see the place comfortably busy for October! Both the Staff are very knowledgeable and welcoming with a real desire to make sure you have an enjoyable night. Our meals: Crisp fresh poppadoms and chutneys, accompanied 2 very tasty Tandoori lamb chops for a starter, the obligatory bottle of Cobra to wash our meals down with. The mains: Naga chilli lamb (absolutely lovely, succulent and plenty of it with a great sauce and not all heat over taste , Chicken Madras again really good portion size plenty of juicy Chicken , Basmati rice, Saag Paneer perfect foil to the heat of the curries) and Cauliflower Bhaji (had a kick to it). Whilst still on our mission, we will be back again as could not really fault it.Well Done Eastern eye
