This is regularly the rudest place in Tenterden. I went on Monday with two friends at 9pm. There was nobody else in (no surprise) and the host greeted us with “we close at 10” in a way that made it clear he would rather we didn’t come in. We ordered poppadoms, a bottle of red wine and a jug of tap water. He then told us they don’t serve tap water due to health and safety!! I pointed out that I live in Tenterden and drink the water all the time. He insisted tap water could not be served, so in disgust we left and had a great meal at Ozgur. The welcome at Badsha is regularly brusque and rude. By the way it is illegal for restaurants not to offer tap water!

Food was good and staff friendly but the down side was they rushed you, they didn’t give you any time between courses. We hadn’t finished our popadoms and they were bringing out our first course and as soon as we finished that the mains was there. Very disappointed

We were very taken aback by the unfriendliness of the staff and how cold it was in the restaurant. Even one of the waiters was wearing a scarf. Moreover I had to hawk 4 times to get my poppodum and the food, average took about 1 hour and a half to get to us

Visited this restaurant tonight. I hadn’t read about the health inspection until afterwards but it seemed very clean. What I can say is that it was one of the best curries that I have ever had. The staff were very friendly and I would certainly recommend the place.

Oh no, this restaurant has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons in the local press for receiving a zero food hygiene rating after an unannounced inspection. Got to say we had no complaints regarding the meal but this zero rating will stop us returning anytime soon.

The Badsha has been a restaurant in which we have eaten many times over several years, but after most recent occasion, definitely will not be going back. The food, in fairness, remains good, but the attitude of the staff.....Oh dear! Rude, hectoring, unsmiling and unfriendly. For example, shortly after sitting at our table (two couples, - we were exchanging a small birthday gift, and it should have been a nice moment while our friend was opening her gift). The waiter chose this moment to insist - and not pleasantly at that, - we tell him how many poppadoms we wanted; he hovered, unsmiling, impatient - all of these and more. I don't like giving negative reviews and don't do lightly, - I recognise running a business for the public is hard work. However, if I go in good faith, as a well behaved paying customer to enjoy a quiet meal with friends I expect to eat good food in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere, and to be made to feel welcome . I have to say now however, it feels that the staff resent and dislike their customers. We actually felt they hold customers in contempt. The Badsha now feels quite unwelcoming. I would have given one star, but as the food was good, have given two

If it’s hair in your food your after or salted slop you found the place just for you complimented with rude obnoxious staff all that’s needed is the T on the end of name to sum this hovel up .

Our first and definitely last, we had read the reviews and thought this sounds positive award winning!, firstly the staff are rude, we were shown our table walking past the kitchen a man in the kitchen wearing catering cloths snorted from his nose to his mouth we all gasped in disbelief what had just happened we at this moment was going to walk out however we sat down. After being walked past several times by different members of staff I had to go and ask if we could order a drink, I was told to sit down they are busy ! We left never to return I can only put this down to an unfortunate experience however the restaurant felt dirty carpet that you wipe your feet on the way out !.

Great Food always at the Badsha, I find the service is great and good value for a night out! Good beers on draught and a lovely restaurant setting in the heart of tenterden. Will return back soon. Thanks for a good evening.

Best Indian restaurant I have been to, food is great, staff are excellent and the restaurant is really nice. Never had a bad meal. Worthy of the awards they keep winning.

I have been shocked tonight by the customer service at Badsha. We have had lots of take aways from them over the last 2 years and have all generally been good. Tonight - I ordered on line and it took 2 hours and 30 mins for the food to arrive. No one called to let me know that there was an issue. I phoned twice to ask the status. The first time after 1 hour 30 mins and was told its on the way. The second time after 2 hours and was told the same - but the manager (Shohan) hung up on me saying that it wasn't his fault and that they had a driver issue ... I would not recommend them based on this service. There wasn't an apology, an offer of a discount or anything like that. This would have been an easy thing to do for any customer let alone a regular customer. If you treat your customers like that - then its an easy choice to go to one of the other very good Indian restaurants in Tenterden... Such a shame

Having been to Badsha many times over the years I was shocked at the treatment of my wife recently. The owner (not the staff) was seriously rude and arrogant to a point where we will never visit or recommend this place again.

From start to finish a very enjoyable evening, we tried the Wednesday special offer £14.95p meal deal. We had plenty to eat and the food was delicious. The staff where friendly and helped to make our evening out with friends special. Thank you Badsha ☺️

Food is good but they lied so many times had to wait 3 hours for delivery than had to go and get takeaway

After ordering a takeaway we waited an hour and fifteen minutes for the food to arrive. I called an hour after ordering for a refund as we had waited too long. The food arrived at our door which i refused as it was now too late. After countless calls to the restaurant to arrange a refund, I spoke to the extremely rude ‘manager’ two days later who shouted at me down the phone telling me the food had arrived so it cannot be refunded. I am utterly disgusted by this place.

I ordered a takeaway from here as a treat and I was not disappointed. Extremely quick service, friendly staff abiding by the social distancing rules and the food was incredibly tasty! I particularly enjoyed the tandoori chicken and the special fried rice. Would definitely come again!

Recently ordered a collection for friends birthday. Food was delicious and full of flavour. Highly recommend the chicken tikka masala and the chicken jalfrezi. Staff were also very polite and helpful

Ordered a take-away at 7:45 and was told it was going to be an hour. (Long enough) my partner picked it up at 8:50 and was very aggressively told on arrival by the man serving her that she was a very rude bad mannered person. He went on to say that he is fasting (because of his religion) and if she can’t tell the time she should not be allowed out of the house. She very nearly told him to stick his take-away. After seeing what he had made us I wish that she did. Dry tasteless and cold. We were also missing a rice dish. I wouldn’t say I was a regular to BADsha but I will not be returning.

Staff miserable and hover over you as if you need to eat up and leave. Soft drinks ridiculously expensive, more than alcoholic ones. Nah. We won’t go back. This place has had its day. If only good for a takeaway.

We’ve had two lovely meals there. The second time the waiter kept leaning on nearby chairs staring at us as if he wanted us to hurry up. There was only one other occupied table. It wasn’t as if they needed the table for new customers.Our bill arrived and we were disappointed to see that a pint of lime and soda was charged at £4.50. We questioned it and the waiter confirmed this was correct and that it was 5p cheaper to buy a pint of beer there. What a silly thing to do. We won’t be back.

As the Badsha is the only Indian take away in Tenterden, it doesn’t have any competition to beat and the food is often merely acceptable rather than excellent in my experience.The chicken tikka masala for example is often quite watery, I.e. a really thin sauce without much flavour.

The food here is great, not overpriced or too large portions. Really let down by the wait though- over an hour. When we asked why, they said they'd had lots of takeaway orders so the restaurant food got delayed.

Ordered a take away on Sunday evening but wish we hadn't. Chicken Madras was ordered but we received a Chicken Korma, the poppadoms were so soggy you could bend them, no spice or heat in any of the side dishes (sag allo, bombay allo, etc.) and we were left very disappointed. We wont be rushing back.

This was the second time we had visited this restaurant. The first time two years ago was very good, and because my family wanted a good Indian meal I remembered this place and we went back.

Went there for dinner tonight with family and was very disappointed. The staff were unfriendly and didn't make us feel welcome whatsoever. My father tried to have a conversation with one of the waiters about Indian food and he didn't say a word and just walked off mid conversation. When our food arrived, we ordered 3 chicken tikka masala's and 1 chicken saag. My chicken saag was nice but the tikka masala's were definitely not what you'd expect a masala would taste like. it was bright red, I have never ever seen a tikka masala that colour before. It tasted like a korma, overpowered by the taste of coconut. We asked the waiter and told us no a tikka has no coconut but a tikka masala has coconut in it. I understand that it does have coconut in but not to that extent. At the end we asked for the bill and one of the waiters came over with it and chucked it down on the table and walked off. He then comes back to take payment. I have never been so disgusted by the level of customer service and feeling so unwelcome by the staff. We will never be returning here again.

The restaurant is right at the end of the high street and could easily be missed. We had a very good meal, nicely presented. The service was excellent but as it was early on a Tuesday we were the only diners, but another couple arrived as we left.

Visited here for the first time on Friday night while in Tenterden for the Festival We were glad we chose this restaurant as the food was delicious. The Poppadom's were fresh, the Pilau Rice was superb and the King Prawn curry was one of the best I have had! Loads of juicy prawns in a really tasty sauce at just the right heat - our compliments to the chef.

The popadums arrived very quickly, however we then had to wait rather a long time for the main course to arrive. Once it turned up, the food was very tasty indeed and nicely presented. The restaurant was also very busy but luckily we had booked.

I thought I would give Badsha a try and went for take away first. I had a tali which I haven't seen on a menu for years. I am so glad I did. The ingredients were good quality. The spicing was a little milder than I expected but I am going to go back. I really enjoyed it although I won't be having a poppadom as I thought it rather a let down.

How can a dish (two dishes actually) be described as 'medium spicy' but be devoid of any taste? Our dishes were so mild they would have made a korma taste like a vindaloo.

Yes they are all the same the world over and yes we can moan about them but when you fimd a decent rural Indian then it is worth mentioning.

Service has been going downhill on our recent visits and the latest incident was we booked a table for 8.15pm. Arrived on time with our table not ready and there were people who had booked for 8pm still not allocated their table. They take bookings regardless of whether they have free tables. As other people had been waiting over an hour for their food we decided to leave and eat elsewhere. Such a shame as food is normally good

The restaurant kindly took a late booking from us despite being busy. We were made to feel exceptionally welcome. Add the great food and very reasonable price, superb. We will be back.

Food bland and not seasoned, chapati’s hard around the edges but poppadoms soft...manager hardly spoke lack of atmosphere won’t go back.

We got out a bit late for dinner, so we just went to a place near where we stayed. It turned out to be an Indian restaurant, and it always amazes me how quick you are served, are most dishes already made? However, food was tasty and spicy, service quick as I have mentioned – we were pleased.

Friendly Staff and nice surroundings. Poppadoms were a little old so that put a bit of a damper on the meal from the start. Starters, Chicken Chat was ok, don't recommend the Chicken Cutlets - they were ok but simply very thinly sliced pieces of chicken cooked in breadcrumbs - no flavour to them at all. Chicken Rogan Josh, the meat was very dry and so you could tell the meat was pre and over cooked but was ok. The Chicken Chilli Muzzalam was just ok, sure I found two small chicken bones that I wasn't best pleased about and the chicken used for this dish definitely isn't breast meat (probably hence the small bones!) - sauce as nice but sadly not the meat. Overall the meal was just 'ok' and unfortunately not one we'll be re-visiting anytime soon. Service was fine and surrounds nice though. To end on a higher ish note, the Special Rice was tasty, the Onion Bhajees are nice and so was the Bombay Potato.

Had dinner on Sunday evening, had the buffet menu which was extremely good value! The food & service were excellent, will definitely call again!

The restaurant is quite elegant and staff were efficient, albeit very friendly. We ordered the fish bunha and mixed grill. Both were described as medium spicy. But to our taste they were both very bland.

We ordered the set meal for two, which proved to be delicious and very good value for money. The curries were well spiced but subtle - full of flavour and the naan bread was the best I have eaten. The staff were polite if a little reserved but overall a very good experience - would highly recommend.

Have been going to this restaurant for many years, but the new one opened up at Northiam which is stunning, so we went back to try the Badsha, the food was good and the restaurant clean, but the waiters where not very warm infact I was thinking of walking out on arrival, I believe the owner came around later and it improved.

I have been ordering from this restaurant for 12 years, it’s never been the best but it’s convenient. I have supported them through all troubles and tonight I ordered a take away online. I collected my order and paid in cash only to get home to find that my vegetarian dish consisted of only cabbage and sweet corn with no sauce. I called to complain and was passed through four people; finally got to the manager who argued profusely. I went back to the restaurant to get my money back. When I arrived , I advised why I was there only to be ignored while the waiter continued to use his calculator. I said again, please can I have my money back. He told me eventually that I had to wait for the manager. When he finally arrived, his first words were, “so you are the rubbish customer”. I was horrified and demanded my money back. He gave me my money and told me that I was no longer welcome there; gladly I said and left. When I left, a member of staff approached me to apologise. He also accused me of swearing. I have never been treated this way and am appalled by their behaviour. I supported this business in times of trouble for over 12 years! They are a total disgrace.

My son says 'this is not a curry house, its his curry home'. been several times with the family, lovely fresh food, every time we visit, both eat in and takeaways. Love it

I made my first visit last week. I did not know what to expect. I think the service is excellent. The restaurant is really clean, fresh and crisp. I have to say I did not enjoy the food this time. I will go back to order something different but I did not enjoy the my food. Not the starter or the main meal. I cannot fault the service that made another visit an option.

Meal oddly without any spice at all. Very bland. Duck meat good. Tarka Dahl good aubergine ok but none of it tasting of curry very odd experience and one I wouldn’t repeat. Not cheap and staff appeared low mood

I'm not sure how I haven't come across this restaurant before, but now that I have, I really recommend it to everyone who seeks good food, good service and a good environment. I had a really lovely dinner last week, the food was piping hot and came out in good time and the staff were extremely friendly and polite. Will definitely be coming here again.

We ate for the first time at the Badsha and had a really good meal. Very reasonably priced, good service and friendly staff. The decor is clean and all lends to the ambiance of the restaurant.

We've been going to the Badsha for years and have never been disappointed. The quality of the food is consistently high and the staff friendly, who always chat. Good value and fairly busy at times, which is perhaps recommendation in itself.

We went on a Saturday night with friends. There was a large (20 ish) party of guys next to us, and it was very noisy, making conversation hard. It also meant that the staff seemed to struggle to keep up with the other customers. Starters arrived eventually and were good. A major issue with the kitchen seemed to develop, after the large party had left. We arrived at 7:30, but our mains did not materialise until 10 PM, by which time we'd just about had enough of waiting. Several other parties left. We were on the point of leaving as it eventually arrived. We were offered no explanation, no complementary drinks and no discount! The staff were reasonably polite and apologetic, but seemed to have been told not to tell us what was going on, and refused to tell us how long the wait was likely to be. It spoilt the evening, and was handled terribly. We will not be returning.

Visited Badsha for the first time on the evening of the Tenterden Christmas Fair - It really was the best...

The Badsha has become a regular venue for us when dining out locally. The food is of consistently high quality and the welcome we receive is friendly without being intrusive. I always try to choose a different main from the chef's recommendations or from the more traditional curry dishes and have never, ever been disappointed with my meal. My young daughter loves the chicken korma and the novelty ice cream and she often suggests we visit again if I or my wife haven't.
