We visit Leith a few times per year and have always intended to pop into The Bad Tempered Baker. Today was the day as we sheltered from the remains of Storm Dennis. The owners were very welcoming to me, my daughter and our two dogs. We had breakfast rolls (bacon and sausage) and tea and coffee. All were fabulous. The music and general atmosphere was very relaxed. Dog friendly places are really important to us on holiday and this place is amazing - our Whippet lad even got a tasty ham treat! The cafe is cosy, but still plenty of room for the Great Dane that joined us! Highly recommend and we will be back

I regularly go here to get lunch to take away. Usually go for the salad boxes (different choices each time, great variety!) which is amazing. Also have had paninis and soup before which were also great. The staff and owners are all really friendly, excellent service. They have cakes and doggy treats usually too, handy when going on the way to Leith Links for a walk with the dog! :)

Found this as had been viewing a house nearby, and what a very special find it was. Very small but amazingly friendly staff, the very very best ginger loaf I have ever had, and I have it most places I go, and great latte. Wish I was hungrier as the smells of food from the kitchen were amazing. Everything is cooked and baked on site. Definitely a must go back place.

My wife has been raving about the Bad Tempered baker for almost two years and she is dead right. We went yesterday with the grandchildren and we all loved it. Didn't try the very tempting cakes and scones. Maybe next time! Perhaps even better than the fantastic coffee and rolls, the service was SO friendly. Lovely people. Can't wait to go back.

We really enjoyed our lunch here. The service was very good and contrary to the name, very friendly! We had the ham, cheddar and chilli jam panini and tuna melt. The ham was shredded gammon which was delicious. Two of also had the tomato soup. Everything was delicious. The bread was light and fresh. We also had a slice of lemon curd cake, a brownie and caramel shortcake to take away- all really tasty! I think the prices were very reasonable too- soup and a panini to sit in was about £6. We’ll be back! Thank you :)

Stopped of on my way to work for a coffee and couldn't resist a homemade scone straight out the oven. I opted for the pear and almond. Really yummy with butter and set me up for the day ahead. Staff were lovely too. Coffee was excellent. Thrilled this wee bakery is round the corner from my flat. Do yourself a favour and pay them a visit - you won't regret it!

We moved to Leith from the other side of Edinburgh earlier this year, and have since then been trying all the local cafes (we love going out for our coffee on a weekend). We’ve been quite disappointed with some, but then we found the Bad Tempered Baker - and we’ve now been at least 4 times. This cafe is small, (just two tables and some bar stools at the window) but we have never failed to find a seat, as I think much of the trade is takeaway coffees and cakes. So far we have tried the scones (sweet - eg pear and almond - and savoury) and they are very good. The jam is particularly tasty. We’ve also had various versions of the breakfast roll; the veggie haggis has proved popular. The full fries look very good too. The coffee is excellent. Water is freely available. The very best thing about this cafe, for us, is the staff, who have been unfailingly helpful, friendly and quick. I’m not surprised many of the customers are regulars - and now we are too. I wish they were open on Sundays, but I do understand their need for a day off!

Never left a trip advisor review before, but I am off work and so have plenty of time to spare. Hopefully, I'll be able to write a good review for my next one. I have just visited Bad Tempered Baker and paid £4.40 for a toastie. I thought it would be a good size or maybe come with some side salad. Unfortunately, it was just a very small tuna toastie. Maybe I just ordered badly, but that seems absolutely ridiculously priced regardless. Plenty of other cafes around that offer good value for money consistently throughout their menu. Doubt I'll be back.

My sister and I visited just yesterday for the first time for a late breakfast (10am) and a chat - the food was delicious! Healthy and super filling! I didn't need to eat anything again until around 4pm when the hunger finally struck. They make their own tasty soda bread that reminded me of my trip to Bordeaux - yummy! Friendly and interactive service. Suitable for vegetarians. I'll defo be back.

Although the blackboard lists macchiato, staff don’t actually know how to make one. As Wikipedia says, “the drink is typically prepared by pouring a small amount of steamed milk directly into a single shot of espresso”. Not difficult, but I got an espresso with a spoonful of foam on the top. (Yes, I’m sure they know the literal translation of macchiato - but the drink needs steamed milk.)

I stopped in for a bacon roll a few weeks ago, at £2.80 for a bacon roll you would expect it to be a nice bacon, but it was very fatty and two very small bit's of bacon on the role and not nice to eat, they might have some thing's that are better to eat, but i would not recommend there bacon rolls.

This place is consistently good. Interesting and fresh salad boxes, paninis, and cakes (of course!). Honestly, the thing I think I'm most impressed with is the brownie I'm currently eating. I've had way too many brownies from various cafes in Edinburgh that were barely discernable as brownies. Unlike their poorly baked competition, Bad Tempered Baker brownies have an actual, visible crumb while still maintaining that classic fudgy squidge. Frankly, I trust any bakery that produces brownies like this; they obviously know what they're doing.

Popped in here for a bacon and egg roll pre work after a few too many the night before. Was freshly made, the egg perfectly cooked (not too runny but just runny enough) the bacon was high quality with minimal fat and the roll very soft and fresh. Whilst waiting I had a look at their menu and all sounded good and the cakes they had looked very tempting indeed. Will definitely be back for something in the near future. They do a lunch deal of a soup and sandwich/wrap for £5 which seems good value.

Queen Charlotte St had been bereft of a good take away for years since the greasy spoon closed. However this new café is no greasy spoon. Whether you want just a coffee or a tea, take out rolls, paninis or lovely salads this is the place to find them. I particularly like the frittata with salad. Cakes baked by the bad tempered baker and sold out front. Also a wee selection of local produce. Well worth coming out of the main drag to visit.

I can't believe I'm raving about salad boxes at a bakery, but when you work nearby these things are the best. Great variety and decent sized portions, goes well with a cup of soup. Tried samples of the cakes too and they are fantastic! Definitely a quirky little bakery, not loads on offer yet but hopefully that will change as they get busier!

They have a good selection on savoury goods such as sandwiches, sausage rolls and salads but I have to say my love lies with the AMAZING cakes that are home baked every day - the chocolate brownies are to die for!! The staff are very friendly and I like the fact they do take always and have the cute little window table that you can sit at if you want to sit in and watch the world pass you by. Next time I'll be coming for breakfast to try the pancakes - I bet they're delicious!!
