Babington Arms in Derby

The worst Wetherspoons we have been to. We walked in and most of the tables hadn't been cleared. Sat down and asked if we could have our table cleared. Team leader looked irritated but agreed. He never came! My partner asked him again and he said he would but still didn't come over but instead started clearing other tables without customers on them. Cutlery was filthy and all had to be replaced. Just settling down and told that kids out at 7am, which we've never come across before. Awful evening!

Very slow serving food and always miss the vodka when making cocktails. When questioned about it staff got very snappy and rude. Love visiting spoons for a cheap meal and drink before a night out but the babington arms really lets the brand down.

We called here for the first time in a year or more. We ordered fish and chips. The bar person was deep in conversation with a colleague and I had to repeat the order over and over. I can only say that the last time the fish swam must have been before ‘Moby Dick’, it was awful. The butter was frozen and the bread recently thawed out. The gentleman who brought the meal was dressed for a day digging ditches. It has definitely deteriorated since we last called. Not the dear end of the market but very poor.

The place was overcrowded . There was barely any tables . Long queue because there was only one person serving . No entertainment they refused to put the tv on .and when my food came it was cold and not how I requested. WILL NOT BE GOING AGAIN . Overall the experience was mediocre and I was highly unsatisfied this is an understatement.

I've been to many Wetherspoon pubs before but this one is easily the worst one I've ever been to, the state of this place is just shocking! The furniture looks incredibly tacky, the place is overcrowded and is mostly full of dunks, and the bar tenders are just taking the piss, and they'll never serve you as I did wait long enough before I decided to leave! Seriously, don't ever come here!!

Will not be back Joe the barman made a very rude comment to the bar manager saying He was very emotional when he came in 😡!!!!

Such a poor experience I witnessed with one of your chefs I was sitting with friends and family and witnessed a chef walk out with food in full uniform and place it on a table with a group off people he had a bad attitude and spoke to a young girl at the time awfully I hope the managers have a sit down with him and discuss him actions and bring food to the table in full uniform was not hygienic and completely disgracefull

Typical weatherspoons, with typical older clientele, but was good service - team leader and staff were great, really friendly and fast service! Smokers outside isn’t managed well, and could get out of hand if the pub was busy! All in all a typical spoons, with a great atmosphere

The custermer service is brilliant can't fault the staff love visiting this pub my local. Love the atmosphere very friendly and welcoming .

This place used to be good. Better than Standing Order food wise despite being the poor cousin in general appearance. Always fast service and pleasant staff. Not today (late March) with Two Small Breakfasts ordered and two hot drinks for twelve quid. Both had cold eggs with a rubbery consistency. Sausages tough and tasteless. Beans warm. The rest very average. At least the toast was hot. The coffee machines have onky one working and that has no coffee in it! Utterly awful. The table next to us complained of similar if not worse breakfast banality and demanded a refund after management reheated the same stuff three times! Not replaced just reheated the same stodge. No apologies forthcoming for them and we hope they had a result but we had gone by then. What a let down. Sort it out! The place wasn’t even busy on this Thursday morning either. Awful. For a decent Spoons breakfast we recommend Old Spa Vaults. And that’s in Chesterfield! Looks like it’s hit and miss with this place. Currently it’s the latter.

Ordered the gourmet steak meal , the steak was dreadful the worst I had anywhere it was pure fat with a small amount of meat ,yes I should have said something but I didn’t .It was words cannot say how bad it was .

We visit Wetherspoon pubs whichever town we are in. Babington Arms has gone 'Downbank'. We walked in Friday Evening 30th Dec. at 8pm and had to clear a table for us to sit at! Ordered food on the app. Not very hot at all! Never mind, we will try again New Years Eve, What a mistake! Again... cleared a table, sat with our coats on! Ordered food! Come 10pm with the pub nearon empty, ordered our drinks on the app and waited 20 minutes..... YES 20 minutes before I politely went to the bar to enquire. There were 5 or 6 receipts behind the bar 'waiting' to be done. The staff just blamed one another!!! To make matters worse, one of the staffs 'body odour' was terrible. So we will NOT be returning to this venue again 😕 what a waste of what could be a brilliant and welcoming pub.....

Lots of tables needed clearing though found 1 empty. Ordered at bar no problem. Food came in reasonable time. Partner's mixed grill missing peas - no explanation. Found a member of staff to ask. Bowl of peas brought out about 5 mins later with apology, saying kitchen staff thought they'd run out but had found some at the back of the freezer (or was that covering up for having forgotten to do them?) My veg curry was hot. Both poppadoms extremely greasy and had gone soft as naan was served on top of them. Tables around us remained uncleared. Didn't seem to be many staff for size of venue and number of customers on a busy Saturday afternoon. Toilets needed attention.

I go to the Babington Arms in Derby on a Thursday for curry night. I have a long standing complaint and tonight was no exception. One of the items advertised on the menu as being part of every curry is chutney. In the last 16 weeks, so since the 9th June they have only had chutney once, on September 15th. Again this evening they hadn't got any. On 5 September I emailed the company complaining, the next day I got this reply "We do try our best to ensure that we have all our products available. However, there are occasions where demand has been higher than expected". It's their curry night, they should expect the demand. I also asked them if it is company policy to rip customers off - they didn't bother answering that. With their lack of interest I thought I'd contact Tripadvisor to alert other customers of their attitude.

On the whole, don’t usually have a problem with drinking and drinking here, but today was not experience. Ordered one of their meals inclusive of an alcoholic drink - large wine. Drink arrived in a plastic pint glass and after seeing the look on my face, I was told due to football all drinks being served in plastic glasses - that said the quantity of wine in the pint glass was no way a large wine! Then as I sat sipping my wine from this plastic pint glass, as I put it down one of the bar staff came along and swooped it off the table, taking it for an empty, without so much as a word!!! Needless to say, I won’t be going here again on a March day and whilst I would not have had a drink had I known they were using plastic pint glasses, I would advise The Babbington Arms that if they are going to serve drinks un plastic glasses, they use plastic wine glasses/tumblers for smaller drinks.

I wanted Eggs Benedict on toast and was told they hadn't got any. This is quite often the case, what they usually haven't got is the bagel. The woman serving couldn't be bothered to check if it was just the bagel they'd not got and told me again that they hadn't got any. Not a problem I left. If she had been less abrupt I might have opted for scrambled eggs on toast, but as it was she lost them a breakfast meal and a drink.

Called today Monday 23rd May 2022. Not been here for a few years. was busy but got a table ok. familiar with the extensive menu. A small queue to order. Food arrived quickly, was hot and well cooked. Prices are excellent, Staff were friendly. ,

We walked in and within 10 minutes walked out. The whole place smells and they are having building work done so whilst you sit there you get a free headache. It’s also very outdated, worst wetherspoons I’ve ever been to - avoid!!

Had breakfast here as the I had time to get there by bus, very busy as Derby were playing at home but the staff soon cleared away tables as the customers left and cleaned them, the table I sat on was clean and the breakfast...

We always rush to find one wherever we are in the UK. Our table top was rocking & we feared it would fall off with our drinks, so we changed seats. But just before we changed seats the top of the bench seat was sliding...

Slightly smells of wee. Tables aren't as sticky as other wetherspoons, however wobbly table... Reduced the amount of beverages in the glass. Friendly staff

Came here for breakfast rather than the hotel we stayed at due to the price tag. Plenty of options to chose from and the food came out nice and hot! 4 satisfied and full-bellied customers! Would recommend to anyone who fances a nice cooked breakfast...

I went in for lunch - I commend the prompt table service for both drink and food. The waitress, who was busy, was nonetheless alert in noticing I wished to order, and she was friendly. Food was standard Wetherspoons. I recommend the Babington Arms.

This is a new place for me as I have not lived in Derby for more than 20 years. The bar was lively for a Sunday evening, we had a variety of drinks and food. The snacks were good and the drinks OK, but expensive....

My friend and I popped in for a couple of drinks. Pub was busy for the time of day. Service was good. The pub interior in quite dark, but seemed clean. Good selection of Real Ales in good condition. Food observed looked ok.

One meal with cold sausages, two meals too cold to eat , and a fish that never had any fish in the batter . Waiting staff were very busy. Lots of food going back to kitchen. Manager did not seem to care . Anywhere else he would have offered a free meal , or at least a drink .NOT HAPPY.

Walked in, didn't make it to the bar before a fight erupted, didn't get a chance to sample the food or drink, decided to go somewhere else for a meal! The bar manger allowed a female member of staff to get involved and just watched with out intervening himself. It looked rough inside, it was our first and last visit.

We visited this pub for lunch and a few cocktails on a Saturday afternoon. We used the app to order and the food was served promptly. The food itself was lovely. I then ordered a 'Bubblegin' cocktail via the app. It's my favourite Wetherspoons cocktail.The cocktail came but it was purple instead of the usual pink, so I asked the waiter if he was sure that was my drink. He said it was. I took a sip and it was not a Bubblegin as I could taste Parma Voilet in it. I advised the waiter if this and his answer was "Well it's what it said to put in". I told him again that it was not the correct drink at which point he shrugged and left.I had to go to the bar to speak with a manager before I could get the correct drink, and even then I had to tell him what was in it! No apology either.First world problems I know, but this is terrible service and even worse attitude from the waiter.

Grim, dirty and the food is awful. I have tried a few meals here but can't find anything good to say about it. Weatherspoons don't invest in enough staff to keep the place clean. Wipe your feet on the way out.

My favourite Spoons bar in Derby. Probably mostly because it has such a vast range of ales/bitters etc., but also such a cosy, friendly atmosphere. Had the steak and kidney pie with mashed potatoes on the Friday night which was delicious, and a mixed grill on the Saturday that was superb! Staff are friendly and helpful and prices very reasonable - you can even get a pint of ale for £1.49. I love this place!

Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday. Was busy but managed to get a table. Empty tables were cleared quickly which is good. Ordered via the app. Drinks came promptly and food came not long later.Altogether a good experience any much better than my local 'Spoons.

Disgusting behaviour from Steven.. he needs lessons on Customer service.. good job i wasnt the mystery shopper eh.. hes lucky i never slung my food at him the way he slung it at me.. get some manners. I work for this company myself and if i done this to a customer of what he done to.me i wouldnt have a job.. Clearly he needs more training on CUSTOMER SERVICE..I went in the following day and the staff were brilliant

The manager is extremely polite and extremely hard working and the food, as always was reasonably priced and very nice.

Spoons are always great for a meal or drink. enjoyed sitting in open area at front, only spoiled by smokers.

Not happy , went for a steak 28.5.19 , ordered one well done one medium rare , both came very well done , took some bk to show staff cause didn't want to wait for s replacement , Nd the nite manager said I tell the chief , I said is that it , not a little glass wine but No ,

My first visit to this pub....excellent choice of ales. Big shout out to Gaz, who I think was a Manager, and also Bethany - both very good representatives of the Company.

Famished we were of into Derby town centre came across this place and thought Hmmm looks inviting so we went in, good choice there were various offers to be had, like a meal and drink included, I chose the rack of ribs and chicken which was excellent and value for money, wife had Burger which she loved. Ordered food came out relativley quickly which was just what we needed.

Bar service good happy go lucky chap served us ...Ordered food which was good waited on by a lovely helpful waitress....We found that the air con was quite cold so we moved our table a few inches down when a rude member of staff sat in uniform eating with a male ,started going on to a member of staff that we had moved the table how rude .We got up and sat in one of your booths...Maybe she needs to be trained The customer is always right .Such a shame that one person can let you down ....

Have to confess we do visit here every week for breakfast I Have always found the food to be excellent quick & hot and fresh. Love the new choices on the menu. There is some inconsistency in prices/offer's and drink size it seems to depend who serves and I think at times how they feel ,the same with the service some mornings you just get a grunt and "regulars" will be served first and other morning's they seem quite pleasant. I am always surprised how popular the pub is with drinkers at breakfast and the cleaners are always working hard, however I do feel it is time for a refurbishment as most of the chairs,booth's and table's are grim.

Had visited a couple of time as working this end of town. Seem a very 'locals' pub. Some of the staff are bordering on rude. The older chap in glasses speaks to you like your dirt on the bottom of his shoe, has done a couple of times. Final straw was visited last friday two work friends and was there about 3 hours ate food and drank while watching a couple of people in front of us rolling joints in plain sight of the staff. I even mentioned this to a member of staff who said shed finished for the day but that the group do it often. Nice!

went into the babington arms after super meal elsewhere, we all had a super few hours before we got into the babington arms. my fellow got the drinks and all was well. myself and my dad have disability issues and we both have keys for the disabled loo, dad came back from the loo and said the floor was wet through and the loo roll was on the floor all wet, i wanted to go so i went the bar and said excuse me the loo roll in the disabled toilet was wet through, stood at the bar and waited for the staff member to finish the round she was doing, but she left the bar and got me loo roll, and said it was extremely rude to interrupted while she was serving ( i was quiet happy to wait) well that just spoilt my wonderful evening, the disabled loo was disgusting wet and smelt, iam on a crutch and trying to keep the bottom of my trousers dry, never again and iam making a formal complaint to the head office. is that how you treat people with disability issues

I went for the Christmas dinner, stuffed turkey breast. I'd been told it was very good.

I love Wetherspoons in general and always look forward to visiting the Babington Arms. The food's always good - I had a really nice jacket potato today with cheese and salad, the spud was done to perfection and delicious. Whenever I've been it's always quite busy, but a nice relaxed atmosphere and you feel you can just chill there for a while in between shopping.

As the title says not the nicest place to eat or drink. Customers mainly 50+. But its a spoons so obviously good food and cheap drinks. Staff are fine, some nice. But would rather just take the 5 minute walk to thomas leaper or standing order down the road.

While visiting Derby one evening, we were in need of a late dinner. The food was good and the drinks were reasonable. All ordering occurs at the bar; however, the food is brought to your table.

Visited the Babington yet again today. The usual good value meal and drinks but the state of the disabled toilet was below expectation. Not checked as per the log. Last checked 11:40, hadn't been checked by 3 o'clock. We did report it to staff. Water on the floor, toilet roll dispenser off the wall and generally disgusting. Come on Wetherspoons, you can do better than this. Of course we'll be back but please take on board our comments.

It is what it is - a cheap Wetherspoons in an inner city location. We went on a Friday, early evening and it was very busy. We had the 2 meals for £7.48 and they arrived quickly and were a good size and quality for the price we paid. not somewhere you'd go for a special meal but it's OK for a quick cheap meal.

I seem to be making a real habit of going for breakfasts and brunches at the moment, so it's easy to compare what's on offer. My sister & I took my elderly and infirm father to an appointment on a weekday morning. Afterwards we fancied a drink and snack and this pub is ideally placed for town, and has disabled parking immediately outside. My father is in a wheelchair and it was easy to get him in and out of the pub and to negotiate our way around inside.

Went to this restaurant for breakfast and saw at least 2 mice running around the restaurant as all the other customers seemed oblivious. Awful.

Having called here one Evening whilst staying over in Derby, I came across it purely by Accident.The Evening was quite pleasant and some people was sat in the outer seating area to the Front of the Building.Deciding to try a pint of Guinness,I was amazed to find that it was unbelievably Cheap as opposed to other places,and so decided to buy another one when having finished the First.The member of Staff who served me on this occasion was pleasant and chatty, and as with all Wetherspoon Houses,there is ample seating.Worth a Visit,even if only for the Cheap Drinks.!!

A trip to Derbyshire in early-June saw me here as first port of call. This branch is just up the hill from the shops, on the left side. Nothing wrong with my half pint (was limited to two pints in the entire afternoon) so off to the Standing Order I go...

I called in for breakfast on my day off. They have a good range of breakfasts available and unlimited refills of tea and coffee. I opted for the large breakfast. Very tasty, would prefer tinned tomatoes rather than half a fresh tomato. It comes with two slices of toast (tasty seeded bloomer) and three hash browns, which is a bit excessive.

Not visited this pub in about a year, the staff were very helpful and polite, the Pedigree was great value so was the Fish and Chips.

We have been in here to eat at different times and found the food quality varies immensely. The same order at different times of the day can be cold / seem un fresh / Microwave quality / lots of returns !

Lots of guest ales to choose from that are great value for money.the staff are friendly and the food is good quality

The Babington Arms is one of several JD Wetherspoon pubs in Derby, close to the Antu shopping centre. It is a large pub, suitable for groups - especially when sports events are on. However, the décor certainly has seen better days, and you will find a classier JDW option about 7 minutes away, at The Standing Order.

I do like this place! Some very nice beers on, and constantly changing guest beers too. The food is, in the main, good. Ok, there has been times when it was necessary to complain, but its always swiftly dealt with. The staff are, by and large, friendly enough. There is one chap who clearly wishes he was somewhere else, but that's more than made up for by the others. The two older chaps behind the bar have A stunning knowledge of real ales, and can normally recommend from the 18 different pumps on the bar. As with nearly all Wetherspoons, table cleanliness is an issue.. often sticky. Why don't they have beer mats?

Visited here with my daughter and decided to order using the Wetherspoons app. A lemonade and coffee cup where brought to our table within 5 minutes and I was told where the coffee machine was to help myself. Food arrived about 5 minutes later and for the overall price I can’t fault the service and quality of food and drink. Everything I’ve come to expect from a Wetherspoons and would definitely recommend.

It's beyond all comprehension that a business as big as Wetherspoons would take on such miserable staff. From the managers to the floor staff, they are as miserable as sin. I call in most Friday mornings for breakfast. The breakfast is good, it is a...

The Babington Arms is a great pub if you like real ale, with 17 on tap it probably has the most of any Wetherspoons in the UK and at reasonable prices. Otherwise though the pub is quite dark and has a dated interior, so it wouldn't be a top choice if you don't like Ale.

It’s a Wetherspoons, so most people will know what they’re going to get - but we like this one more...

Visited here for lunch, we chose the deli deals and went for jacket potatoes both with chilli and cheese, and ham and cheese panini. These meals came with drinks. The chilli jackets were very tasty and not overly spicy, and came with sour cream and side salad. The panin came with chips which was also tasty and well cooked. Definitely recommended as great value good food.

People are always quick to complain but not many people take time to write or say good things about their experience. This is a very popular pub/restaurant in Derby and always seems to be busy but the service was top notch. Prices are cheapish, food is nice and the waiter who brought our order was very polite. He asked us if our meal was okay a few minutes later and the we asked again by another waitress, great service. Definitely recommend and definitely going back.

As far as Wetherspoons in Derby goes, this one is the best. Drink selection is good, bar, waiting and kitchen staff are good and it's always a warm welcome when we pop in after work.

Visit this Wetherspoons regularly when in Derby to meet friends. I have always found it to have a pleasant ambience, good meals and an excellent range of beers. I like the way the ales and ciders are clearly listed with brewery, strength and price. This isn't always the case in others. One ale is normally £1.99. Occasionally, there are food offers of steaks etc. at a reduced price. Staff are efficient, sometimes too efficient - my glass was snatched away before it was empty recently! One negative aspect are the prices of ales on days other than Monday. They are higher here than any other one I visit by quite a large margin.

Popped in for food and drinks with friends. Beer was okay, good prices and food was fantastic however overheard a conversation with someone who seemed to working on something as he had his head in the ceiling tiles.. He said "there is definitely urine leaking from the tiles from the men's urinile. There is signs up saying do not use the toilets, however i am amazed its still open.

You certainly know what your getting with this chain of pubs and this doesn't disappoint. Called in early one Friday morning while waiting for a taxi with the usual range of customers you see at that time but all were friendly. Bar staff were under it a bit but really happy to serve and efficient with it. Nice pint of Johns!!!!

Popped in on the off chance of some food to find that they were having difficulties with some food and an adapted menu was on offer Happy to find the goumet burger still on offer however when the food came out was with a jacket and no onion rings this wasn't explained on purchase so was a disappointment however the food was still lovely and the jacket well cooked. Other than confusion of not being told would still ecoomend eating here

Ordered via the pay app as I hate jostling for space at the bar. Young girl brought drinks. Slammed them down spilling two of them, not a word said no smile either. Had to take one back to the bar as it was wrong. Not a word said again. Scowled as changed it then just slammed the can of orange down. I had to ask for a glass etc. Still not a word. When the food came out the server did apologise and cleaned the table but why should he do someone else's job? He was friendly at least. Food was good and hot and quick for saying they were short staffed and I know people haven't turned up and are off sick but that's no excuse. Been a long time since we came to this one...will be a long time to the next visit.

Called in here for lunch as you know what your getting at wetherspoons. Had the chicken tikka it was very nice served quickly and they even put the Cheltenham festival on the TV . It was curry Thursday so it was very reasonable with a Guinness throne in . Good value for money.

Visited with a group of mates to have lunch and superb as always.Some of us picked a curry from the "Curry Thursday" menu ranging from a Korma & Tikka to the Madras. One of us had the Californian Burger from their range of burgers. Everyone enjoyed the meal.We hung around and tried some of the guest ales which today included a local Derby beer called The Panther we enjoyed every beer we tried.Will definitely be visiting again.

The Babington always has a good choice of real ales - many of them local. They keep their beer well, and the pub is well patronised - particularly at lunchtime.We had lunch there yesterday - two steak and kidney puds for about £7.50. Fine dining it isn't, but the food was delivered very quickly, was nice and hot, and of acceptable quality.Wetherspoons are usually pretty standard, but this one, I think, is a cut above most.

Been going thete now for more than a few years always have a good choice of guest ales as well as the normal beers good food menu the decor needs some looking at apart from that a decent drinking place

Shortages seem to be a growing and frustrating problem. We meet friends for a drink and a simple good value meal and on our last two visits they have run out of Salad and Coleslaw and even worse is the indifference of the staff.I have started to check the availability before ordering as there is no shortage of competitive eateries in Derby

This place always looks busy when passing it but today we tried breakfast there. Its a typical Wetherspoons pub so you know what to expect. That said, it wasn't as shabby looking as several we've tried and there was an area away from the bar specifically for families to eat. Our food was served quickly and we weren't disappointed.

We try and come here on Thursdays for there curry nights and they are great meals including myself who is a fuzzy eater :-)The place is always friendly welcome and great location in Derby city centre and if want to grab a quick drink or food then would highly recommend this place!!(Sometimes bar area can be busy and not many staff but friendly staff when serving)

Called in on Saturday night the place was quite busy the pub overall was clean the staff seemed OK the beer was cheap and the food all though didn't eat this time but I have in the past was very good just like all weatherspoons

Nice Beer.. Told food very nice not eaten here but will try soon..Easy to find is parking close to INTU shopping centre.
