We enjoyed a plate of mezze and some excellent chips. We needed them to soak up all the good gin from the bar's long list.

Had lunch here, how disappointing. Had voucher for 5 sharing plates and coffee. Cod goujons very greasy, nothing was hot, the fries tasted like they'd been sitting about for a while and were certainly not freshly cooked. Only thing I really enjoyed was the beef brisket but that was only warm....maybe it was meant to be ??? Glad we didn't pay full price.

I was here on my own and had dinner in the bar. Very friendly staff, good fish and chips and nothing too much trouble. Short menu so basic variety of choices.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch here in the well laid out garden on a sunny afternoon. The menu is nicely varied and we all enjoyed our food (three house burgers and one veggie fajitas, £12-14). We spent a very leisurely three hours over lunch on a Saturday with a few other groups in the garden but plenty of space to enjoy a bit of privacy. The food arrived quickly and the staff were polite, but seemed very chilled to the point of lacking good customer service. We had to ask for the table to be wiped down, but the guy was very willing once it was pointed out. I would certainly go back, but would love it if the serving staff had a bit more buzz.

At the beginning of the month, I was travelling with my Business Partners to a Board Meeting in Bristol strait after a long day at work. We stopped to have a quick dinner the Elephant. The atmosphere in the hotel makes you feel coy and welcome and I think the food was delicious. On the other side we, all, were disappointed by the attitude of the staff that was serving in bar. There was a dark–blue haired lady serving us. The impression was that as we were not a priority for her as we not regular to the bar, so we could be forgotten when we called her. We felt her attitude towards us was really rude – she was too busy flirting with all the men in the bar to pay attention to our needs as occasional customers. Even when, we went to pay the bill to the bar, she started doing it, but a men appeared and she left out bill, she went to kiss and welcome that men, served him with a drink and only after that come back to finish serving us. And when you think that it was a 2 mins job to pay so we could leave.

lovely place to meet with friends or for a more formal occasion. This place is steeped in history but also kept up to date. clean and comfortable.without aires and graces , friendly and welcoming. Bar food or the restaurant. the food is very good and the choice is ample. Service also friendly and quick ... no ong waits and I have been there many times. My favourite place to go in such a lovely village.

The bar menu had something to suit all tastes and appetites. The service was very good and the staff friendly. We weren't rushed with our meal.

Good solid wood everywhere, including the quirky bar stools which have "antlers" for arms. Good selection of drinks and cocktails and ability to enjoy restaurant food or snacks.

An ok selection of bar food, I would have like a few other vegetarian choices as only one option in the mains and sandwiches isn't really a option but as a veggie I am used to this and don't expect much. The sandwich I did have was delicious and I would have it again. The atmosphere is nice, it does get busy mainly because there aren't that many small tables and with hotel guests travelling solo or couples they need to use the big tables, if you wait a few minutes a table comes free.

The menu was limited but it was good quality well priced fare. We had soup to start with beer battered fish and chips to follow both were excellent.

Nice venue and good atmosphere. Limited bar menu but local produce and normally very tasty. Very good beer and wine selection. Only downside is it can occasionally be a bit noisy eating near the bar, but it is a bar so really can't complain about that.

Very reliable, excellent food and lovely bar atmosphere. Also has a great garden at the back, largely enclosed so good for children. The regular staff are fantastic and very friendly; occasionally new ones not so competent.

Tried the £20 offer on a sunny Saturday evening (offer available between 6 and 7pm, 6 days a week) - 2 main dishes and a bottle of house wine for £20. Very impressed! The fish and chips were very well cooked and the wine was very nice. Sat in the garden which was very pleasant though the garden looked a bit 'tired'. We'll be back :)

We eat at the Elephant in the bar at least once a week. They do an amazing deal 2 for £20 that's two mains and up to four drinks for £20 which is fantastic value. The burger is incredible and I can't order anything else off of the menu as I can't let the burger down! We always bring our boxer dogs along and the staff are so accommodating especially the bar manager always offering water for the boys. Love this place and 100 plus visits later still never let us down .

We had considered staying at the Elephant in the future, and were shown round the rooms, then had an evening meal in the bar to try out the food. The few tables for eating were spaced out, the whole area dominated by the long bar which was noisy, the barmaid being most vociferous. I had to interrupt conversations to put our order in. The meals when they arrived were quite enjoyable, but quite expensive considering the atmosphere which was not conducive to enjoying an evening meal. Both the bar and the restaurant, which remained empty all evening, are along the front of the hotel, which fronts on to a busy main road junction, as do many of the guest rooms. We did not find the 'Indian' theme very convincing despite numerous wood elephants, but found most of the areas rather dark. That evening's experience made us decide definitely not to stay at the Elephant.

There was 4 of us who wanted to try the food here as we had been for a drink a few times, two of us had the burgers which were tasteless and very dry. One other had the ribs which also was overdone and dry, and the last had the fish and chips and he said it was nice. Service from the staff was ok but there was a long wait for the food, we waited about 45 mins and there were only 2 tables in for service. Overall not the best as it is not cheap to eat for pub grub, we will not be back as there are better places to eat at a better price. The bar area could do with a refurb as the seats are a bit thread bare and the decor could do with an up lift.

After a long day just wanted to have a bite and a pint, staff was offering me to have a seat in the garden which was a great idea. excellent food, the steak was a dream! the homemade chips as well. even if the garden is not directly in from of the bar the service was very good ... and you never felt "forgotten"

We visited on a Saturday evening. I ordered the hot sausage and onion baguette - not much to get wrong you would think. Wrong - the onions were greasy and cold and my first bite was not a pleasant experience. After requesting it to be changed it was returned having been microwaved! My dining companions didnt rate the food either. The bar area lacks atmosphere and we had to ask for the candles to be lit to see properly. We wont be rushing back. Shame as we only live down the road.

Visited recently for the first time and was impressed, no long queues after placing your order like in Costa etc, all staff are young and very helpful & pleasant. This is how a cafe should be run, Yesterday visited the Reading Cafe, same level of service received, we had to amend our order after sitting down, it was no problem for them at all and we were made to feel again nothing is too much trouble. Got home and looked into the Company, they focus on employing the right people & training them. Well done for doing this, your doing the right thing from the top down to the shop floor, If there’s a Boswells near me wherever I am that’s where I will be spending my money. 🙏😁

Have been a few times and it’s been nice but today it seems the owner was around for the first time that I’ve seen him. His attitude was something I can’t explain, rude to say the least! Comes across very intimidating and only seems to favour his regulars… after speaking to other regulars they all said he’s not been around for a while and that he likes to push his weight around when he’s on site. Definitely will not be going again. Shame really….. typical Irish

Excellent service from a very enthusiastic young man. Unfortunately several dishes were not up to the usual standard. The pork rib eye and beef feather were very good and presented well. The tandoori prawns on Naan bread were a poor substitute for the old garlic prawns and more reminiscent of a TV dinner. The chicken schnitzel presentation was poor. It came without the coronation mayonnaise and there could be more imagination with the salad which was just little gem cut up. Flavour, however, was good. The hot drink with small pudding was a winner as usual and delicious.

The atmosphere here is excellent. The staff are all very welcoming and polite. The manager, Julian, couldn't be more helpful despite only very recently taking over the business and having a lot on his plate. Absolutely do recommend, and I will be coming again.
