Azims Balti Restaurant in Birmingham

Ordered food from here, ordered lamb chops which came as diced lamb and were freezing cold and had gone hard fries and naan which was also not edible due to the temperature. Called to speak with the manager and was told they are extremely busy which was their excuse for lack of edible food

Went with the family for my daughter in law birthday. Food was ok but not great. Should have gone to our local but you live and learn.

The best Balti in Birmingham by a mile. Food is excellent always perfectly spiced and prepared & good value for money. I actually think the food has got even better the last couple of months. This is my balti go to check it out

We were a family of 4 who visited on a Friday evening before concert at Villa Park. Great service, friendly & professional, food was amazing, fantastic balti, so tasty! Very impressed with all aspects of Azims, we look forward to a return visit, many thanks.

We had to mix grills and two naan breads. I found the mixed grill is delicious and you’ll be a five star rating, but I found the naan breads disappointing. And others thought the naan bread was fine so it’s just a personal opinion.

A BALTI GEMAzims is located on the Lozells Road and it is where I had my first balti well over 30 years ago. BYO alcohol is frowned upon but if ever there was a case for forsaking a beer for the night then this is it. The food is absolutely top notch and the quality is on a par with the copious quantities served up. My wife's chicken tikka had a hint of lemon and although slightly salty was absolutely superb without the need for a bucketload of red food colouring ..she reckons it was one of the best ever. My freshly prepared mushroom pakora was also excellent with the spicy dips ordered with the crispy poppadoms an excellent accompaniment. Mains were a balti chicken pasanda for her...flavoursome and coconutty and, even better, not diluted out of all proportion by the usual bucketload of sickly cream beloved of too many 'indian' restaurants in serving pasandas and kormas. My balti chicken and mushroom was also equally superb with my sizzling baltibowl full to the brim with tender chicken languishing in a tasty sauce. In both our cases mopped up with a garlic and cheese naan perfect in its taste and consistency and a worthy contender if there was such a thing as a Nicest Nan competition

First time visit to Azims even though I have lived in the area for 7 years I have never got round to visiting. So glad we finally did. The starters where excellent but the star of the show was the Lamb Karahi on the bone special was perfectly spiced and just enough for two to share. Service was great to we tried to order more food as wasn’t sure the portion sizes and the guy said you don’t need to order more you will have more than enough which was very honest. Thanks for a great visit will be back as soon as lockdown is over!

The takeaway lamb kharai is absolutely delucious as well as having a hot undertone. Delivered efficiently and enjoyed.

Habiendo pasado siempre por el restaurante, siempre me ha intrigado. Ya no. Decepcionado. Biryani especial no era tan especial. Claramente microondas. Los trozos de pollo necesitan más cortes. Somos humanos, no hipopótamos. Los trozos de cordero sabían bien para ser justos. Salsa de verduras con biryani, de nuevo claramente al microondas. La fuente consistía en tikka de cordero, pollo tikka, kebab de sheesh de cordero, kebab de sheesh de pollo, chuletas de cordero, alitas de pollo, tikka paneer y un cuarto de pollo a la parrilla. I have at least two takeaway curries everyweek.and I love them ever since they opened in the 70s.well recommended.chicken Ceylon with rice and azims famous rotis well worth a try.

So I went here after a very long time and the rubbish they serve has actually got worse! Makes me wonder if they even got permission to work in the UK, cos the staff really are reluctant or nor educated to speak English.

A well known restaurant in the area. It has been recently renovated and i highly recommend you visit. The menu has changed for the better. Its worth a visit. A Hidden Gem!!!

I have been eating traditional baltis/Pakistani curries for over 35years i visited this place last night with my daughter had 2 meat baltis to takeaway and they were foul.

It wasn't a visit because we actually ordered the food over the phone. It came in good time and it was packed really well and warm, ready to eat. Food was tasty.

I ordered for 2 and delivery for 1930 (730)pm... at 1950 no delivery had not happened I called them. I cancelled ordered do to them saying the driver may be late. Time was 1955 I Would nnot recommend this company

Well we all waited a long time for this place to be refurbished and reopened, But how disappointing the new owners/management make it openly clear that non Muslims are not the sort of clientele they are after. But there are now a few places like this in Birmingham such as the nearby Hamza, and Badshah Palace where radical extremists muslims are the owners and management and do not want anyone but muslims as customers.

Estado viniendo aquí durante casi 10 años. . . . Nunca me ha defraudado mi o mis amigos. La comida es para morirse, especialmente con la nueva adición de auténtico menú desi. Probamos el medio pollo que lleva 30 - Karahi 40 minutos para hacer y me quedé sorprendido por el buen gusto. Tanto a probar cosas nuevas. . . . Un restaurante de visita obligada.

De lejos, el mejor balti en Birmingham. . Estado viniendo aquí. Durante años ahora! Ha tenido la reforma de largo y ahora parece la merecida parte.

Very helpful staff on the phone with good suggestions of dishes on the day. Even agreed to deliver outside their area without extra cost.

I have been coming here for thirty years and came remember Mr Azim from all that time ago The food is proper Baptist and not just curry in a dish. Tandoori fish starter is awesome. Take your own drink and relaxed atmosphere. I eat Asian food everwhere but still keep coming back to here. It's really not flash inside and a little tired but the food and staff make up for it Classic. From the family with the kids that eat the cucumber

The food was amazing, pure taste. The food was fresh and delicious. I have been to many places for curry's such as Tipu Sultan and desi Karahi but this is the best their is. Providing food cooked with love and care.

Hi orderd from this place as take out & omg won't be ordering from there again, seekh kebabs dry. Keema curry was ridiculous, very bland no taste forgot to put the patatoes in 2.. I actually thought this place was edible but not no more, wonder were the sugary tastes comes from.. not a good experience at all

Fantastic place! Must visit - great customer service skills shown. Excellent delivery timing when ordering food for home delivery. Being a vegetarian they cater to my needs, making me food which is not normally on their menu. Excellent!

The worst.... the Pakora was raw. The sheek kebab was dry. My main meal was not what i normally get for a Jalfrezi it had a sweet taste. Strange!!!!. Also the naan breads tasted doughy.Dont get me started on the state of the place oh my god. Fungus growing on the walls and the toilets well lets just say my cats litter tray would be more appealing.How this place has not been condemmed by the environmental health is beyond me.If i had been my own car i would have left.

We regularly come to Azims and the food is amazing. It's the best of basic. However on this occasion, my food was excellent as usual, my paneer tikka masala was brilliant, the naan made to perfection. I was happy However two of the party had a mixed grill and they were disappointed as it was deep fried and the oil was throughout. I think stick to the basic curry dishes which is what this restaurant is know for.

The food is by far the best you will be able to get, cannot fault at all. The place itself however could do with a good spruce up!

Ive traveled around the world and india. i have eaten indian food of all types. and to come back to the uk and find this gem of a place is a real find the food is to die for and price should be alot more for this high quality.ive eaten here a few times when i go across to see friends in birmingham.its top class. i promise you. the lamb dishes.cant be beat. its the place to eat. i cant find any where that comes close to the quality or the price. and if you want to have a whisky then you can take your own its fine to do this as this place doesnt sell any at this time but hay ho i go there for the food and once you have been once you will never go any where else there isnt a dish that isnt top class and you cant beat the prices trust me if you can get better let me know and ill travel to the place and if i think it is any where near ill pay for a free curry for you my self.thats how confident i am. this food is true idian style food and im from yorkshire'try it out. but take your own beer.

This is my daughter and I's "go-to" mid-week delivery choice on those rare occasions when her mum is visiting her family or working late and we have to fend for ourselves.They do a midweek special, wednesdays and thursdays which is 2x basic starters, 2x main course dishes, 2x rice or naan, 2x papadom with (warm) salad and the usual carton of minty stuff - no onion salad, unfortunately.The standard salad has plenty of onion in it but it's frankly, rip-your-tongue-out cooking onion served as a salad ingredient. As I'm a cheapskate salad-o-holic, I'll live with it.It also used to come with a couple of After-Eight mints as a dessert, but they seem to have stopped doing that.When we started ordering these a few years ago they were a tenner but the price has crept up and it's now about thirteen or fourteen quid - still something of a bargain, though.The basic issue, which may or may not be important to you is that the food is essentially your choice of ingredient served in their generic curry sauce, possibly tweaked a bit for individual style dishes.Their generic sauce is absolutely laden with both sugar and salt, and this is largely what gives Azim's their "unique, must-have" taste. It's addictively moreish in the same way that most of the fast-food that horrifies healthy eating pundits is. This is not a judgement, merely an observation and sometimes, for me it just hits the "let's have a treat from healthy eating and junk-out" spot.When I've eaten in, rather than order a takeaway, I have in the past tried to persuade them to do a low-salt, sugarless dish - which is how I and the family normally eat when not on a junk junket - but they don't seem able, or want to accommodate this. It's not their market, they know what they do and they do what they do efficiently and well and essentially it's about serving good-tasting curry to suit a European palate. Their personalised optimisation runs to bunging in extra ingredients from their standard list and making it hotter or (sort-of) milder.My wife hates their food. She claims it makes her ill but then there's a whole heap of curry houses I've had to stop ordering from because she hates the food and it makes her ill. That's why we tend to order Azims when she's not here.Occasionally she's given in and given it another chance so the sprog and I can be indulged in our addiction, but she's always complained afterwards about it being crap.re the MW special, I'd go for the "special balti" which is meat, chicken, prawn in the generic sauce. Tandoori chicken is a good starter for us carnivore types. Lots of protein, cheaply, and it would be the perfect low-carb meal if it hadn't had all the sugar addedEating in is usually a better, fun experience if you don't mind standing on the bog seat and holding your breath. Apart from the eliminatory convenience, It seems, functionally, clean enough if a little drab. I'd rather have drab than wallet-shredding haute nouvelle served in a boutique with a "sauce is drizzled over a hand-picked bay leaf with a sprig of guava and a symmetrical presentation." It's basic, it's cheap and if you eat it before it's gone cold enough for the grease to solidify, it tastes great.I'm only giving it a 3 because of the inflexibility with the sugar/salt combo, but if you're into this as the basis of your diet, mentally give it five on my behalf.

Me and my family visit here regularly there's usually 9 adults 3children. The foods brilliant it's hard to find a Balti house that can still keep the Asian taste but westernise it as I'm not a fan of hot food but live flavour!The restaurant its self it's very dated, old decor and seat but the food is perfect it's also reasonably priced on average for all of us to eat it's around £35 each Totally recommend

I seriously cannot fault the food, it's lovely and the staff are more than helpful and the atmosphere is good. The toilets on the other hand are FILTHY!!! There were at least 5 huge flys in the cubicle... I was scared to go back in... PLEASE GET A CLEANER!!!

Had a classic balti at Azims last week. It was perfect full of flavour, it's got to be one of the best I've ever had. I asked for it to be a little hotter than usual and boy was it that said it was perfect. The service was fantastic too. The only let down is the location and decor but this really doesn't matter when the balti arrives. I'm going back for sure and very soon.

Azims is one of my favourite balti houses thr food is unique and you wont taste a same balti anywhere else.. also very good value for money. The let down is the decor as it needs a referb. But if you just keep looking at your food and not the wallpaper then you will be fine..

This restaurant is fantastic for a basic balti. I don't think I've had a better basic balti anywhere. The sauce is perfect and just the right amount of spice and the paneer is amazing. Lovely food. However the restaurant itself was very cold and the it's not really clean. Visit for the food but word of advice go to the bathroom before coming.

We visit the area about 3 times a year and always make sure we have at least one visit to Azim's each time. The food is fantastic and plentiful and the service is quick and friendly. Try the Tandoori Fish starter it is delicious. We live 500 miles from Birmingham but Azim's makes every mile worth it.

THis place seriously needs a refurbishment, I cant see how the health authorities allow this place to stay open, Its filthy and disgusting, I went here but refused to eat here, I ve known this place since the early 70's, the food has always been okay. Especially when your drunk and there is no other restaurant open so late in north of birmingham, This place is seriously for the drunks who are not worried about the taste, hygiene and decor. As a matter of fact you will only meet highly intoxicated people in here after midnight. I ve given it a poor as i know the food is not bad, bit greasy, Naan bread is never right which will always given you indigestion or heart burn, And you can take your liquor

It's worth making a trip to Azims for the food but don't be in a hurry. Just writing this and thinking of Azims is making me salivate. The food is delicious - Tandoori Fish (hake) very succulent - biggest best Onion Bhaji I've ever had. According to the staff they invented the Balti (a number of other places have too) but my staple there - Chicken and Sag Balti is the best. The way they cook the chicken in strips rather than chunks means that each piece carries a great deal more flavour than any other place I have been to. Nice people

You really do have to ignore the decor,and the poor state of the toilets..wee before you go!The staff are very friendly,the food is delicious and very reasonably priced..

We had a lovely Balti. Place could do with sprucing up. Toilets in need of updating Waited awhile for food, but when a balti is prepared individually then the wait is well worth it. I live some distance away but will certainly return when next in Birmingham.

I've been here a few times and each visit is better and better.. The good was fantastic. Freshly made full I flavour and the naan was good too. Had a great meal.

Me and the Mrs have been back a few times over the past few weeks. The Balti's are to die for. As long as you don't mind the aged decor, this place is Balti heaven. On Wednesdays and Thursdays they do 4 courses for £7, wow. We will be coming back again and again. By the way, we have to travel from Longbridge, that should tell you something about the quality of the food.

Reputedly this is Birmingham's oldest Balti House and somewhere I have been frequenting since the 1980's. Food is usually of a very high standard and around a tenner a head. The table naans are huge and service is always efficient. They have a great choice of dishes to suit all palates. For no nonsense curry dishes this is the place to come

Its not the best of decorated places I have been to, could do with a lick of paint, well a few gallon at least to get rid of the balti splatter off the walls and some new flooring, but value for money yes, authentic taste yes, a proper Brummie balti, and on Wednesday and Thursday you get a starter, any balti and rice or naan for £6.99 bargain and they are large portions, I have never finished one yet, eh it's tea for the following day, bargain two meals for the price of one.

I've been to some dumps in my time but none where you have the full combination of wallpaper hanging off, toilets with no towels or hand-drier, the walls kicked in, and heating provided by a single portable gas fire in the middle of the dining room.So why does it get four stars, close on five? The food, the pricing and the service. This is a classic no-frills balti house where the nosh is superb and they even offer a choice of dishes!The two of us had poppadoms (with delicious pickles); starters (senational kebab and prawn puri) and main courses with an ENORMOUS garlic naan and an equally generous side dish of spinach. The cuisine was top-notch, the service friendly and the price ridiculous, about £8 a head. Equally good - bring your own booze, no corkage.The Ritz it ain't. But if you want a yummy Indian for little more than it would cost to make at home, this is THE place.

Come here most Wednesdays for the last 2 years, best around for cheap food and taste! The shop is a dog hole but don't come here to look at wallpaper, come here to eat! Try any curry house then come here you will see what I'm saying!

I am not reviewing the restaurant, but the delivery service which is fantastic! I had a chicken jalfrezi which was so delicious. It is not the normal orange muck that everywhere serves now, it had real chillies and veg and big tender pieces if chicken. Highly recommended. Delivery was quick and efficient. Will get to the restaurant as soon as I can.

The food is amazing. You can't beat it. The prices are low so give a great value for money experience. Service is personal. The decor is in extreme need of a make over but if you can look past the wall paper, you will not be disappointed.

I went to azims last week and i really enjoyed it. Customer service is brilliant couldn't ask for better and the food is great icome all the way from cannock to go there. So thank you azims .

I went there to have a meal as i felt it was a local. before I comment I think the EHO needs to pay them a visit. You do not need to go to any doctors for constipation tablets and as of now no need to be worried about it. Just have a meal from azims and you will be free from constipation for more than 24 hours which should undoubtedly resolve your problems of constipation. It's free and it's cheap. Damn!! My back end still burning.

For a cheap balti its as good as the price. Took about a hour for food to be cooked but there was about 10 in our party. The balti was very nice so in all a good meal at a good price

I have just had a chicken bhuna delivered and cannot believe that Azims would serve something so far removed from a bhuna it was untrue. i have had tastier chicken and gravy from a carvery. i think they must have trayed it up before it was finished!!!!!!!!!!

Came here on a recommendation of a friend. This place looks like it's set in the 70s and not been cleaned since. The toilets are terrible!! The whole place is in need of a revamp. The food isn't the best.

Azim's has been a feature of Lozells, just a couple of minutes by taxi from City Centre, since the early 1980s. This is not for those seeking modern "fusion" indian food - this is old fashioned proper Balti. There are other dishes on the Menu but I recommend you stick with the Balti selections which are full of flavour without being over spiced. (ask for fresh green chillies on the side if you want to add some heat!). There's a small free public car park about 20 metres away.Take your own alcohol as they are not licensed.

I'm working away from home at the moment in Birmingham. Just happened to find a menu for azims in the flat where I'm staying. Wow, I'm glad I did. Best chicken Korma I've everhad! I had that with rice, onion bhaji And nan for a shade over a tenner.Puts the rubbish I've been getting back up in Leeds to shame!You won't be disappointed.

Recommended to us , I am REALY fussy ! This is this is the best balti I have tasted ever,I never , ever enjoy going any other place , ever!!! However,,,,,, cleanliness in restaurant seems fine , but , toilets REALY , REALY let it down!!!!!! It's the only point that I can't recommend to my family and friends . I feel like I have to go to the loo before, & hope I don't need to go whilst I'm there!! So come on Azims !!!! I use Azims regular, so they know just how I like my food. The waiting staff are friendly, polite & promt. The lamb balti is amazing and I always finish my dish.
