What a lovely pub! A group of us popped in for pre-dinner drinks early evening, and were made so welcome by the staff and the regulars! Great beer, cider and lots of non-alcoholic choices. Exactly what a pub should be.

I had read a few reviews about this being a locals pub. Yes it is, these guys keep the pub going all year round while us out of towners drop in occasionally. However, a warm welcome awaits all and we were treated as one of the gang. We had kids with us, so rang in advance and were told their license only permits under 18s until 7pm. No problem, I dont want to hang out with the minis after 7 anyway. This place has really thought about the whole Covid thing and you really feel safe. The barmaid was really friendly and helpful and drinks are reasonably priced. Yes it's a drinkers pub but its owned by Palmers who know how to produce and look after their ale. Give it a go, its non pretentious, warm and welcoming. What's not to love?!

This is clearly the best pub in Axminster, if not further afield. Owned by the Palmers Brewery they have a permanent selection of 5 of their cask ales along with the usual lagers and a couple of local ciders. There is a decent crowd of regulars who are friendly and welcoming to visitors. Bar staff very well informed about the beers. All in all a very pleasant place to have a few pints.

First and last visit to this pub. Local welcome which consisted of locals slumped all across the bar area preventing you access , after moving chairs I placed my bar order only to be told ID was required to be produced by my daughter (15) even though she would only be drinking soft drinks. The bar man then informed me when I questioned his reasoning for ID that she was not allowed to be served after 7.00pm. What rot!!!Do not expect a friendly welcome unless you have frequented this establishment for years.

We were staying in Axminster and looking for somewhere for drinkies before our dinner reservation. The other half is a true, professional, beer connoisseur. Having had a pretty awful drink in another pub close by we headed for The Axminster Inn. What a good decision! The unpretentious surroundings immediately faded into unimportance as we were welcomed by the landlord and ordered our drinks. His instant interraction with us, foreigners from Dorset, was so hospitable and was matched by the quality of my other half's first pint. In his 'expert' capacity he said it was a 'cracking pint' in great condition. I chose a local cider, also great. After enjoying other drinks from the extensive range, we had to make off for our dinner reservation. Finishing dinner somewhat earlier than planned it was a unanimous decision to return to The Axminster Inn for a night cap. All of the ales were up to the same high standard and we enjoyed choosing from their equally great range of gins all served perfectly, accompaniments down to the juniper berries. Great service and interaction continued as Karen took over from Gary. We are not sure what was better, the fantastic hospitality from a couple who know what they are doing and obviously work very hard, or the drinks which were in such good condition. So, would we revisit the Axminster Inn again? Absolutely. We only wish we lived nearer so that we could enjoy on a regular basis. Thank you Karen and Gary.

Don't expect to eat here as this is what a pub should care about and that is serving a great pint. 5 stars to the friendly landlord for keeping and serving the perfect pint. There are several ales on offer and the Palmers Copper I chose was very refreshing, so much so I stayed for another. I would have quite happily finished the barrel had I not been a stranger in town and worried about finding my way home afterwards. For those that like music to go with their pint there is a vastly infinite range on the juke box. And judging by the wall posters on certain nights/weeks there are live bands/artists playing in an adjacent room to the bar which then gives the option to cover most tastes to be closer or not to the decibels. I would highly recommend if you are a discerning drinker and enjoy music to compliment.

Why is it on a lot of good Pubs fail to look after the place that nearly everyone uses , is rarely given a coat of paint or a second thought, in this case the smell was overpowering. The lady behind the bar was chatty and pleasant with a friendly and welcoming side. Food does not seem to be done except Fridays and Sunday Lunch. The Ale which is Palmers are of good standard and locals were welcoming and quite rude of the visitors who spent a great deal of money in the south west. I shall not be returning

New owners have been firmly in place now for a couple of years. Whilst we might lament the loss of cosy carpet and comfy sofas and the introduction of standard pub grub rather than landladies choice of specials, this pub is a must on any trip to the lovely Axminster with it's Thursday market and quaint shops. Pop in for a coffee and biscuit. Stop by for lunch snack. Just because it a standard grub menu, tbe food is anything but standard. Quality ingredients, beautiful home cooked ham sandwich and nice chips. Staff and management offer a warm welcome. Drop in and stay a while. We do often.

We were in Axminster looking for somewhere for lunch and found the Axminster Inn. Glad we did! Very friendly staff, the beer was excellent (in the Good Beer Guide I found later) and the food was good quality pub food. The best thing was the value for money - in a time where lots of pubs charge up to ten quid for a sandwich, none of theirs were I think over a fiver, and the main courses were sensible prices too. We had the burger and the ham egg & chips, and thoroughly enjoyed them. It's a shame we don't live closer else we would be regulars!

I used to love coming to this pub for quiz night and some brunch with a pint, but I have to say the new owner makes the atmosphere terrible, to the point I have found a new pub instead (cheaper and far friendlier). Took my Mum of 86 to the pub as we were visiting Axminster and reminiscing from the 1960's when we used to live there - I worked at Shands, now long gone but the railings remain with JHS!!We entered the pub (my mum uses a "walker" ) and immediately the locals at the bar helped us to a table. We only wanted a snack and a pint and were informed by a lovely barmaid that there was only a Sunday Roast available and looking at the plate of one of the locals felt this was too much food for us - delicious as it looked!I asked if they were able to do two half portions which after consultation with the chef they agreed - the food was delicious and still generous despite the half portion - most places this is what you would expect from a full portion! The pork was juicy and tender, the roast potatoes crisp, the stuffing, apple sauce and gravy all excellent and washed down with a pint of Palmers Best Bitter. The service attentive all in all a great experience and one that we will certainly remember - could not recommend more highly - Thank you!

The Inn do lunches on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday but don't provide meals at other times. We had lunch on the Axminster market day so the pub was quite busy but the service was still very good. The food was excellent and the portions were large enough to defeat many adults, but the value for money was amazing. When presented with the bill I actually asked if they had forgotten something as it seemed too low. The pub is a proper old fashioned pub and was very clean, welcoming and had a lovely fire going. We just wanted a lunchtime meal so my husband ordered a crab sandwich and I had a jacket potato with prawns. Both meals were wonderful and we each had a plateful of food. The prawns and the crab were both fresh and the food was well prepared. Fabulous roast potatoes and a really decent and interesting selection of vegetables. The cauliflower cheese was yummy! The gravy was delicious and served separately so you can choose how much or little you want. All was piping hot and really flavoursome. There is a choice of sizes from small / medium / large. I had the large and it was probably too much for me. It didn't leave room for the wonderful home cooked puddings. My partner did manage a pudding - he had apple, sultana & cinnamon crumble with icecream. The chef very thoughtfully gave us both cutlery so that I could sneak some. It was amazing!! Discovered this gem on holiday - bustling locals pub with very good value home cooked food at locals - not Devon tourist prices. Excellent Palmers ales and top notch entertainment by Black & West thrown inAll in all, a great night out at this very friendly pub - thanks everyone!

We had to try the new Sunday lunch menu and we were not disappointed. Roast beef served with roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, cheesy leeks and a proper Yorkshire - not one of those rock hard crispy things restaurants often serve. Followed up with the best freshly cooked Blueberry Bakewell and cream. The staff were friendly and attentive. Thanks very much

Fabulous pub with great garden. We’ve been a couple of times for a drink and something to eat from one of the food trucks (they are not doing food from the kitchen yet!) pub looks great - everyone super friendly - what’s not to like !! Looking forward to seeing what food trucks popping up in September !! Hilary and Chris

We celebrated our daughter's 5th birthday party today at Amazing Grazing. It was incredible- marquee set up with tables; smaller marquee with tuff trays of games; whole paddock with tonnes of activities from building to tyre rolling to a miniature flower shop; goat, pig and alpaca supervised feeding. Superb from start to finish. Fantastic value for money and Taro was so helpful right from booking to the day itself making sure it was the best experience for our little girl and her friends.
