Axe & Square in Blaby

Well here’s a little review for you. In entering we were greeted welcomed and shown to our table. Very polite. The atmosphere was lovely and warm and clean. The menu is very extensive and suits all tastes. We didn’t have a starter. I had a sirloin steak and jayne had the home made faggots. The meal came out in a good time. Hot and presented well. See the pictures. The steak was very very tasty and cooked to a medium rare choice and had a beautiful char grilled taste to it. The pepper sauce was very creamy rich and tasty. Chips enough and tasty came slightly salted and a side of blush toms and salad. Very filling indeed. The faggots came on a bed of mash and gravy and was enjoyed also. We decided on trying desert well again cannot fault I had Apple and Rhubarb crumble. Proper crumble not oats and a jug of fresh custard. Jayne had the sticky toffee pudding again very nice Jayne nearly picked the plate up and licked it clean lol Great value for Money at just under £50 quid for two inc Beer. Would I go again. You bet I will. If you’re looking for a change to your usual place give this place a go.

Visited for Sunday lunch with Husband and Mum. One of the best Sunday Roasts we've had out. I had beef, it was beautifully cooked, so tender. Mum and Hubby had the turkey, never tasted turkey so full of flavour and so moist too. Good portion of veg and proper Yorkshire puddings (only downside was they had run out of pigs in blankets and we ate at 2pm). Plenty of staff so service was spot on. Good choice of deserts too. Will definitely be back.

Love this place...nice atmosphere...casual but intimate

We had a fantastic meal here this week, being given a table for two tucked away in a nook for a really quiet evening together. The service was very friendly, everything was served quickly, and the food was just superb. Delicious chicken and leek pie, chunky chips, and the onion rings on the side are always the best. Even the thick gravy was the best we've had! We love this chain of pubs and the Axe & Square has always been the nicest for a meal for 2-4 people with plenty of space between the tables to give the feeling of a private evening. We'll definitely be back again!

Called in to the Axe & Square before attending a funeral at the crematorium today and I must say I was very impressed with the food, service and price, all spot on. Well done you deserve to be very busy, I would highly recommend a visit!

Went for lunch today as first time visitors. Welcoming pub with restaurant in the back. Place was clean with good decor. Staff were welcoming and attentive. Food was great, and so rare these days…a proper plateful! Local faggotts were delicious and the sea bass was fresh and a proper decent sized portion. Really rate the place, have told others and will return

The best pub food in Leicestershire, and certainly the best Sunday lunch. The staff are fantastic and the drinks reasonable. Forget the rest and try the best!!

We visited for my husbands birthday lunch on Saturday 16h March 2024. Having known this place as an old fashioned pub in the 1980s, we had not been here for at least 15 years if not more. The menu is extensive, and our son-in-law being nut allergic was given an extra menu handbook to indicate allergens in various dishes. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful, and chatty as well which is always nice :) We each had starter, main and dessert, and were all very full at the end! My husband had ordered a side of chips with the mains for us all to share but we really did not need it, each dish was perfectly put together and didn't need more. Our daughter had the surf & turf and her steak was cooked exactly as she asked. We will certainly return soon, and definitely recommend this place.

Popped in for an early tea, food was lovely and the staff couldn’t do enough for us even with our very tired and grumpy toddler 😊

3rd visit here and once again not disappointed Lovely service with Chloe and the gentleman with rhe beard( name not known). Kind, helpful and very accomadating. Nothing too much trouble. Great background music..not heavy as in some eateries. The food.....EXCELLENT. I've put a photo on but Doesn't do it justice. Mini Tuxford chicken on the lunchtime menu. Beautifully cooked and delicious. Value for money amazing. Highly recommended!!!!!!!

We went back again to have a Sunday lunch after having a very good previous experience. The portions are generous and the Vegetarian Sunday dinner is the best I’ve had in years. The only surprise was after ordering the cheesecake. It arrived covered in cream so completely disguised. After tasting it, it appeared to be a sponge cake with icing on the top. No biscuit base as advertised. A couple of other people tasted it at the table and confirmed this was a sponge cake - much like the type you would get at a kids party. When we brought this up with the manager he was very defensive, he did not handle it well and it started to turn into an argument. He admitted it had no biscuit base but that it was still a cheese cake but just one that we had never had before. We mentioned being baffled to the lady at the bar and she replied “it is not a cheesecake” If we had received real cheesecake and the food was hotter this would be 5 stars 🌟

In general this place is great for Sunday lunch, details are the missing link to getting 5 stars. We were seated in a walkway that had a step down 6” away from a step. The food needs to be hotter and the cheesecake, is not a cheesecake.

The Axe & Square has been refurbished. The new owners have done a good job and it is now a nice pub / restaurant. The menu is varied and the prices are reasonable.

First time here with my elderly Aunt. Lovely staff ( Charlotte) who recognised the children's smaller menu might be needed. But she code a starter and halloumi chips. LOVELY! I had the Yorkshire pudding. GORGEOUS and SO much. LOVELY atmosphere..clean...lovely devour. This will be a regular for our lunches. Thank you.

We had a fantastic evening, staff and food were excellent. We have to give a massive thank you to Reece......who went above and beyond! We really wanted a cheeseboard.....we asked, and Reece delivered! (I'd just like to say a cheeseboard isn't available, but I definitely think it's something that should be! Maybe a specials board)????

Serves Old Peculiar. That deserves 5 stars on it's own. The Guiness tasted great too, which means they really look after their lines.

Went here with the mrs, and our 6 children for my sons birthday. 2 of our daughters are gluten free, and the menu was fantastic. We mostly had the Sunday roast, and even at last orders for food the meals was delicious. It wasn't the cheapest place by any means but i would Highly recommen this place...

Best Sunday roast in all of Leicestershire!

Just wanted to pass on a huge thank you to the staff at the Axe and Square for being the perfect hosts today....especially Jack! I was running a team training session and needed somewhere to hold the event. The Axe and Square had a perfect section where it was cosy for the group size I had. We also had lunch. The food was absolutely beautiful both in presentation and taste. The whole group was very impressed. They were also very accommodating and arranged for tea and coffee to be available for us throughout the session. Nothing was too much trouble and we were all made to feel very welcome. We will definitely be returning!

Sadly I didn’t experience the great food everyone is raving about. I had the scampi , struggled to find any scampi hidden in a mass of coating , cold mushy peas and boney dry luke warm chips . Certainly not a good experience . I could have gone local and had the same meal but cheaper .

Very busy when we went mid afternoon, but the service of all the staff were fantastic, so friendly, helpful and attentive. The food was excellent, couldn't fault it. It is on the dearer side of a normal pub, but this chain are on the next level. Well worth paying the extra for something a little bit more special. Recommend 100%. The only small negative is that it can be on the noisy side because of the lack of soft furnishings to absorb the sound, but don't let this put you off....

Really good meal, lots of options for all tastes. We have veges, Gf people, beige food kids and fans of classic meat and veg people in our family so was good for everyone. Lots of GF desserts also so that was nice. Service good and timely even though we had a large group of 9. Only negatives was the room was really packed with tables so hard to chat with our table. Other than that really good.

Sorry to say I thought it was my food that was cold but after talking to my family most of them were. We had pre-order so food was ready as soon as we got there . It's a shame as really nice place

We’ve visited the Axe & Square a few times since it’s opened. The service has generally been great & the food has been of high quality. Always piping hot even when busy. It’s nice to have a pub in the village which has a great food menu. Will recommend to family and friends.

First time I have visited. It was for a birthday lunch and we were accommodated in a separate room. The service was great. Food was really nice and a good choice of beer.

Lunch 2 for £18 lunch menu. Very good. A smaller portion but plenty and we'll presented. I had the chicken with roast veg and roast potatoes with pepper sauce with stilton. Large flat mushroom. My friend had the hunters chicken with chips. She said it was good, nice and juicy. And they take blue light card which was a bonus.

I visited The Axe and Square on Friday 5th January and all I can say is ‘wow.’ Myself and my fellow diners enjoyed a fantastic experience; not only was the food delicious - I had the steak pie which was cooked to perfection - but...

This was our family Christmas outing and we had a lovely evening. The food was delicious and portion sizes were just right. The only criticism I would have is that a table of 4 had the same amount of veg as we had and we were 6, we could have done with a bit more.

Breakfast with Santa! Fantastic and magical experience and very good value for money. £15 a ticket and our child got a Santa Hat, activity pack, mug to decorate, buffet (adults can pay for a breakfast on the day), and a personal invite to meet the big guy himself. He called him in by name and spent a while talking to him and his gift was labelled with his name on too! It boosted the magic for us! Will be definitely back next year!

We were invited to Axe & Square by old friends. We had a wonderful starter, Sunday dinner, an amazing treacle pudding and custard for dessert. The atmosphere was welcoming and very comfortable. The staff were very polite and friendly. We all agreed 10/10 and we will return, even though we live in Cornwall! Thank you for looking after us 😊😋. It was a treat from our friends, so I don't know how much was paid.

Met up with friends on a recommendation, booked a table in advance. Nice selection of drinks, great menu, at good prices. Food came out quickly and nice and hot. All plates cleared,with a big thumbs-up from our party. A massive thank you to the young lady who took our order...she found and brought to us a purse left in the bar area,most grateful. Staff were lovely, wine (Malbec) was great, place is decorated nicely. We had roasts, veg and potatoes were soggy, seemed to have been hold-held for a while, stuffing ball was burnt and seemed to have been refried. Meat on the meat option was good, vegetarian option of a cauliflower roulade was terrible, was very overcooked and chewy/had lost any moisture. Gravy seemed to be from a gravy powder/no added flavour etc. We may have been unlucky with our roasts, staff and place was nice so might try the main menu another day!

First time visit, lovely pub, friendly staff though service was a little slow( busy in there though) food was lovely though the portion size of the cheese and tomato risotto was terrible- literally a couple of spoons sized serving, it looked like a child's portion, the person eating it is tiny with a small appetite and she was still hungry which was a shame, only other bit of cc is that the dish two of us wanted was not available which was disappointing, it would have been better if we were told on arrival what was not available, everything else was spot on.

A lovely evening meal for my mums birthday. The food was really tasty, well plated and generous (although the risotto was very rich so we couldn't eat it all). The staff were lovely and attentive, and really well tuned into the dietary needs of the group. They were also very helpful when one of our group had a little turn due to over heating. We have been on several occasions and the food has always been amazing. This particular night didn't disappoint, it was extremely busy, the service was fantastic (especially Kate). Would definatley recommended and looking forward to our next visit.

Really love this restaurant. I’m vegetarian and love every meal they have here, even though I’m a very picky eater. The staff are so friendly and lovely. It’s the place to go if you want a lovely time with friends and family.

First time going to the axe and square since moving to countesthorpe and we were all very impressed. The food was amazing, best greek meal i have had in a long time and everyone said how amazing their meal was from the hunters chicken to the risotto…And puddings just WOW specially the cheesecake. Service was great and all staff very friendly. We will definitely be retuning soon

So I’ve been to the axe and square 4 times since it reopened. The first time was when it just opened and we were very apprehensive about it because we knew they owned several other local pubs in the area and didn’t want the same...

Tasty meal, but very expensive for small portions! Couldn't believe the size of the sundae for £6.50 - not even a full flake , it looked like it had been cut into 4 slices! Don't think we'll bother again. Need a loan for the drinks too!!

This place definitely has the WOW factor! Friendly & welcoming staff, excellent service, the food was amazing & you’re never left to your own devices when waiting to know when your food is arriving, asking for the bill, can I have another drink etc. Excellent service & food all round guys! First time I have used this pub since returning to UK. Obviously a lot has been spent on refurbishment and it shows. Much nicer surroundings with plenty of room to move about. Spent a few hours on Saturday afternoon sitting outside and was surprised how quiet it was, may have something to do with the rather expensive beer prices but as the saying goes you pay for the ambiance.

We visited last Saturday evening for the first time and was not disappointed. Lovely friendly welcome. Fantastic food and drinks and the staff were friendly and attentive. Lovely atmosphere!!! Great pub can't wait to go back. Would definitely recommend to everyone.

We came as a party of 11 for my partners birthday, and every member of staff that dealt with us couldn’t have done more! Amazing food, special service, and a great atmosphere! We’ll 100% be returning!!

This is the second time we've been and the service has been amazing, aslo the food......but this time we had a little hiccup with our steak. The only reason it hasn't got a full 5* for the food was because our rare fillet steak was cooked medium. But it was still very nice. Carpark is a little small, but there is paid parking just round the corner Will definitely be back. I recommend you visit here 😊

Lovely place, great food. Been there 4 times now and only down fall is one, just one of the bar staff with black hair is completely rude and miserable. Everytime we have been there, she looked miserable,and treated us like she dident want to do the job. whereas the other staff could not help you anymore than they do. Other than that, it's a lovely place,

Nice homely and welcoming pub that's great for a family get together or a quiet meal for two! Good range of dishes on the menu with traditional pub classics like fish n chips,burgers steaks etc as well seasonal specials and gluten free options too. Sunday roasts and kids menu are also available. Outdoor seating area and a bar if you only want liquid refreshments. Car park and nearby bus route if you don't want to drive.

The food is really good at this place… however the food is quite expensive. The staff are not very friendly and it seems that it’s to much trouble just to get some sauce or drinks. Quite rude really.
