We live localyand know that Avon Mill is a decent garden centre with a large cafe, serving good food. Yesterday we had a breakfast there for the first time. It was extremely good quality and nicely presented. Thanks for the experience.

Called in for breakfast and purchased some plants. Not disappointed! The breakfast was very nice and service was excellent and caring. The garden centre has a wide range of plants all in very good condition at reasonable prices. The business is being run by people who care. A little out of the way but well worth the effort.

This was the best cream tea we have ever had! Freshly baked large soft scones (still warm) with a generous serving of cream and jam. The staff were very friendly. The garden center is lovely. The 1 hour 15 min riverside walk is very beautiful. We even saw a kingfisher!

Fantastic venue, 'oldy worldy' building with 2 feet thick walls. Brilliant service, Prawn Sandwich with the freshest, lightest white bloomer bread absolutely overflowing with luscious prawns in marie rose sauce, chips and salad. Needless to say coffee also excellent and hot (as some venues seem to be following some H&S formula where the coffee can never be hot enough to 'injure you' - anyway enough of that). Mother had the treacle tart which was also good and she is a treacle tart aficionado.

After viewing an ad in the local paper, we thought we would try this garden centre for lunch. Firstly this is a very popular venue, in fact quite a drive from Kingsbridge town actually nearer to Loddiswell, but certainly worth it, the scenery is spectacular and a very pleasant drive. The garden centre its self is very well stocked with plants and goodies, I’m sure you’ll find something you can’t live without! The cafe is in the centre of things with efficient staff and freshly prepared food, we certainly enjoyed our food, so much so, there was no room for afternoon tea, freshly baked scones, jam and cream, that’s for next time.

This place was a great surprise, as we were not expecting it to be so lovely! We had a cream tea which was delicious and fresh. There was plenty of room to sit and eat, depending on the weather. There was a huge and modern undercover area where dogs were welcome. In addition there was an indoor area too. It had a few artisan shops surrounding the centre which were very nice. Definitely recommend this place. Only major advice is DO NOT FOLLOW YOUR SAT NAV. We did and we had the dubious pleasure of driving for miles along a variety of narrow single track roads. Phew we made it eventually, but soon realised it was totally unnecessary as it turned out. We did have a laugh with the staff though as apparently many people make the same mistake.

We have visited this cosy but beautifully situated garden centre cafe often and yesterday was a very very busy Easter Bank Holiday Monday. We expected a wait on our food order but it was ready within 15 minutes. I was recently diagnosed as gluten intolerant and this was not a problem. I had the most amazing pea and broccoli soup with gluten free toast. The staff were efficient and obviously aren’t fazed by busy periods such as this. We love it here and will be back again very soon. Top marks!

We were taken by our friends who live in Loddiswell for our first visit & treated to a lovely piece of cake & a drink. There is a good choice there. We enjoyed it very much & made a return visit, just my husband & myself, for a delicious cream tea. I had plain scones which were gorgeous & my husband chose the fruit variety/ he said they were nice but a little doughy in the centre. He was probably just unlucky that day. The food was plentiful, with a good portion of jam & Devon clotted cream, we also requested some butter to have with it which they kindly supplied. There are lots of shops in the garden centre & a very good array of plants for sale. Well worth a visit.

Sat in the covered outdoor area with our dogs and a cheeky little robin. A perfect setting for coffee and teacakes. They were the best teacakes ever as they came with a generous amount of butter already melting on them (instead of rock hard butter pat) and scrumptious strawberries jam.

First time we have tried this cafe although have used the garden centre before. Must say very pleased with everything. Food and service were excellent and we thought at a very reasonable price as we come from Cheltenham where everything costs and arm and a leg. Can understand where some people complain of being cold especially in the winter months but we were fine as we had a inside table in the corner and it was a warm day all though quite windy. Will certainly go again as we come to Kingsbridge regularly. All in all very good.

Recommended in our local accommodation guest book so thought we'd stop on passing. Tiny/disappointing garden centre but primarily stopped here for lunch. Alas there were so many dogs in the restaurant (and some of them were massive breeds) you couldn't get a table without being near one. With allergies a 'dog free' section would be an idea. Staff were fairly intolerant/rude in regards this suggestion and thus I can't recommend it to anyone. We didn't stay and went else where - you'll find a plethora of little independent places around here for food/drink, I'd advise trying those instead.

This place is not just a restaurant but a garden centre with some really interesting boutiques as well and some really good walking trails along the river Avon and in the woods. It is also very dog friendly. We arrived late morning and although fairly busythere was still plenty of parking, We decided towalk first so headed up-stream on a well marked footpath. The path is well maintained and reasonably flat but I would not describe it as "wheel-chair accessible"How far you walk is up to you - we walked for over an hour before turning back but could have gone further - hunger was setting in!! alternative there are way marked circular routes through the woods - definitely something for another visit. We used the restaurant for afternoon tea, My wife was offered no less than 3 types of gluten free cakes and I had an excellent cream tea - fresh warm scone and ample jam and cream. It was a warm day so we sat outside and as the outside tables are under an enormous canopy which is part of the garden centre so you can sit outside even in wet weather. We explored the garden centre which had an excellent range of plants and the boutiques which had lots of good stuff - not the usual holiday tat and well worth a long browse. We must have spent over 4 hours here - walking eating and shopping and really enjoyed the day - we shall return!!

Have visited this cafe many times and always look forward to it - usually a pleasant experience. However this time was disappointing. I have recently become vegan and do try not to be sanctimonious...but the only offer was a 'pie' and salad which I ordered. It arrived - clearly a 'Clive's pie', available from any garage (and clearly not one's actual choice) and with a large helping of coleslaw. I checked that this was vegan, and was told that it was not. There was no apology or any offer of an alternative. Quite an ignorant response. I felt let down and will choose somewhere else to eat in future.

This visit for lunch was ruined because of a very loud group of people who had no consideration for anyone else. They were so loud they were shouting at each other to be heard. 10 people who shout while holding what should be a normal conversation is of putting for everyone. Shame as they only had tea and cake. The only thing I would note is that most places let you have coffee instead of a pot of tea within the price but we were charged more, not that that would stop us from returning. Nice place to visit of an afternoon/weekend and we enjoyed pottering around the small garden centre and few shops after lunch.

Firstly let me say that I am a fan of Avon Mill. The plant quality has been good over the years we have been going there and, up until now, we have been happy with the cafe. We visited last weekend and were dismayed by the tiny portions being served, which were noticably smaller than on our previous visits. OK, the prices of main courses are not high, but it looks like they have reduced portion sizes to keep the prices fixed. This is a practice I don't like when carried out by supermarkets, but I didn't expect it here. We have to travel a distance to visit, which was OK when the food was worth travelling for. Sadly that isn't the case now, sorry.

where do i start ... there was so much wrong with this abysmal excuse for a restaurant. for starters the staff their were very unfriendly with me when arrived and they were also shouting at each other. so when i finally got sat they did not give me a menu after asking several times so to my disgust i had to get it myself. then when i finally was able to order they told me that i was not aloud to change out one vegetable for a different one i prefer and they told me to leave if i was going to cause issues, which i thought was a very unacceptable thing to say. when my food arrived they filled the plate with cucumbers which was what i asked to be removed and it looked like they had saliva on them and should have been thrown out weeks ago. so i left the meal left the restaurant they shouted "don't come back you fat sod" which was extremely hurtful.

Visited for a lunch date with friends on a busy Sunday lunchtime. Very crowded, so not too surprised at a fairly long wait, both to place the order at the counter, which was having trouble keeping up to date with the growing list of unavailable dishes - which included jacket potatoes (in a garden centre), and also with the service to the table. My choice of a chilli resulted in a near failure in the hunt for a taste of the chilli. The other three mains were deemed no better than average - not a successful choice of venue. Probably not to be repeated.

Four (sometimes five) of us meet here once a month. We are all local; retired and as this cafe is midway it is convenient for all of us. We have always enjoyed walking round the shops and garden departments followed by a delicious lunch. However, none of us are particularly dog lovers! This has not been a problem until this summer as there are 3 different areas in which to eat. On the last 3 occasions there appeared to be more customers with dogs than without and they were in all areas. The most recent visit was the last straw! Outside was too hot; the conservatory was full and also hot so we found a table inside. This is quite a small room and was once the original café. Unfortunately, this is also where you queue to place orders and by the time our lunch arrived the queue was very long. We counted 5 dogs queuing with their owners. Is this really necessary in such a confined space? All owners were accompanied so I think it quite reasonable for at least one to stay outside with the dog! 2 of the dogs began snarling at each other and I noticed one was on a very long lead and being allowed to stray from the owner's side. Having been viciously attacked by a dog in the past I became very panic-stricken because the table we were sitting at was completely hemmed in by the queue. I could not get out without going past these dogs. Such selfish and inconsiderate dog owners completely ruined our lunch and when, on leaving, we complained and asked why dogs are allowed in all 3 eating areas we were told it is the centre's policy. We shall never return and have already found somewhere else to meet. So, beware, if you prefer not to share your lunch with a pack of dogs, go elsewhere!

We popped in for morning coffee and are going to return for lunch soon. The outside tables are sheltered from the wind and there are also inside tables.

Nestled in a pretty valley, sitting on a river is my favourite garden, craft and dress shop centre. The cafe is beautiful, there is a great dog walk there and lots of outside tables. Beautiful plants, garden pots and figures. I digress, the cafe, wonderful soups, dishes of the day which include salmon or chicken with lovely accompaniments, glorious cakes and good teas and coffees. The service from everyone is such a pleasure, it’s well run and organised. Fresh food, the cheese scones are famous !!!

Called here on our way to an event and didn't have a lot of time, not long enough to sit and eat, but saw they did sandwiches, so choose some and had them wrapped to take away. I choose the salmon and cream cheese on chunky bread and my friend had egg and cress, both delicious, loved the bread. will certainly come back. They also did main meals and sweets. Seating out side too. Nice toilets. l picked up some plants in the garden centre too. Not a large garden centre, but very nice also they sell clothes. Not the easiest place to find, didn't see many signs for Loddiswell on the way there. We will know next time.

We saw the sign for Avon Mill and decided to have a look. What a gem we found! Plenty of parking, a garden centre, a great cafe and little shops selling clothing, paintings and local crafts. Lunch in the cafe was delicious. This will be a go to place every time we visit South Devon.

Took my visitors here for the first time. They loved it! We had a wander around the plants and each of the lovely shops selling original and creative items from clothes to candles to cards. We ordered lunch - sandwiches of tuna mayonnaise; egg and cress; ham and cheese. They came on thick crusty granary bread with a side salad, crisps and home-made coleslaw. We all struggled to clear our plates the portions were so huge. Absolutely delicious. They were really busy but service was very prompt and the staff friendly and helpful. Our only criticism was the large number of dogs allowed in the restaurant but we managed to find a table well away from them. We have noticed, however, the increasing number of dogs wherever we go these days and do not find this a particularly pleasant trend.

Avon Mill Cafe is a lovely old Style Coffee Shop selling Coffees, Teas, Cold Drinks, Alcohol, Food & those irresistible Home Made Cakes. Set within the grounds of the Garden Centre well off the Main areas but well worth seeking out for not only the Cakes & Coffee but the surrounding area views and walks.

Recommended to go here by friends whilst on holiday in nearby Bigbury On Sea. What a lovely place it turned out to be. In the middle of nowhere by a stream. Had a light lunch which was served with a smile and was excellent. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

Excellent service in relaxing surroundings. It was our first visit and we came to buy plants. We decided to stop for refreshments because there were nice areas to sit outside and we will visit again.

My husband and I had a wonderful cream tea here this week. We were recommended the place by a friend and we certainly weren't disappointed. There was a choice of plain or fruit scones and both options were delicious and absolutely huge! The tea was perfect and the whole garden centre is delightful with lots of seating options - inside, outside or outside under cover!

I've eaten at Avon Mill several times over the past couple of years and have always enjoyed the food, so, feeling peckish on our way back from a trip onto Dartmoor, dropping in for a snack was a no brainer.

Stayed here for one night lovely little pub rooms very nice and cosy unfortunately couldn’t watch tv as there wasn’t a remote and couldn’t use the shower as the button was missing of it which definitely would of been noticed on cleaning … the carpet in stairs were quite dirty and the people I didn’t find very welcoming sadly

Christmas lunch for 12 of us. Pre ordered from a balanced and varied seasonal menu that included fish and vegetarian options. Excellent value and we were very well looked after. Exceptional selection of well cooked Vegetables, recipe for the red cabbage please . Some of us were disappointed that we didn't have room for a desert ! This is a family owned proper pub with helpful competent staff. Parking right opposite but payment by card challenged some of us oldies.

Limited opening times, No food so asked out of curtesy if grandson could eat a snack. Was told no but to eat outside in the garden which had a closed sign on the gate, so had eat in the smoking area. Didn't feel particularly welcome. No alternative snack was offered. Wasn't very accommodating, we were staying local and would have returned for a meal but they said closed Monday and Tuesday and we would need to book if wanted to return. I would advise anyone to give this pub a a miss as there are much better pubs in the area
