Incredible place for a breakfast! The only thing to make it better would be higher quality sausages

Beautiful place and great food!

This place is extremely popular which is why you can’t book in advance. We arrived at about 11 am on a Saturday morning and it was rammed. We waited to be seated at a table near the door which was quite drafty as the door is open almost constantly, with people queueing to get in. The Menu is quite comprehensive but we stuck to the breakfast options. When we were ready I went up to the counter and queued again to give my order. This took a long time with only one till. The lady in the till was also serving slices of cake which she had to cut and plate, which added to the delay. When the food arrived we found our table wasn’t quite big enough for 4 and it got very crowded . Food was reasonably good, nicely cooked and presented.though they only serve smoked Bacon and there are no swaps allowed. It was very noisy inside the venue which was to be expected with so many people but this wasn’t a relaxed Brunch as planned. There is now a covered patio which used to be outside seating where people were sat wrapped up in their coats. Parking was particularly difficult and it might be best to park in the shopping centre opposite and walk through? In summary, this is a good cafe but it is in danger of being a victim of its own success. We won’t be going back on a weekend, it was too busy, too noisy and far too frantic. Perhaps mid week would be better?

I recently visited Avenue Cafe with a mate, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. First, let me rave about the leek and potato soup—it was nothing short of perfection. The texture was velvety smooth, with the right balance of creaminess and seasoning. Every spoonful was comforting, packed with a fresh, earthy flavor that tasted like it had been made with the finest ingredients. It came served with warm, crusty bread that perfectly complemented the soup. For dessert, I couldn’t resist trying their coconut cake, and I’m so glad I did. The cake was moist, light, and layered with just the right amount of coconut frosting, which was rich without being overpowering. The subtle sweetness and the tropical hint of coconut made it an absolute delight and a perfect way to end the meal. The café itself was equally impressive. It’s big and spacious, yet it manages to feel cozy and inviting. The warmth of the décor and the welcoming atmosphere make it a perfect spot for anything from a solo coffee break to a catch-up with friends. The service was outstanding—efficient and friendly without being intrusive. The staff were quick to clear plates and ensure everything was spotless, which added to the overall experience. In my opinion, Avenue Café is easily one of the best cafés I’ve visited in Bristol. It’s the kind of place that leaves a lasting impression and makes you want to come back again and again. Highly recommend!

I've been to the Avenue Cafe a few times now and it never disappoints. Lovely coffee, food and atmosphere. I've came here with my 5 year old son for a breakfast date and we both had a great time. The Chai Latte is definitely a firm favourite as is the eggs Benedict!

My first visit, but I won't be in a hurry to return. Not a friendly atmosphere, perhaps I was unlucky, but the staff seemed indifferent, it made me feel I was doing them a favour by being there.

Oh my goodness, the best breakfast I've ever had, lovely place to eat with great choices. We parked in the supermarket car park & walked over although there ate some spaces by the cafe. Good prices, friendly helpfull staff....we will come back 100%

Lovely breakfast before big shop

I visited this morning for breakfast and as usual I cannot fault Avenue Cafe. The staff are always helpful, the food is delicious and no matter how busy it is, there’s never an unreasonable wait! I just wanted to let everyone at Avenue Cafe know that they do a fantastic job which doesn’t go unnoticed.

Lovely cafe. We sat in the conservatory area but they have a selection of different area's to suit your needs. We had the large breakfast, which was steaming hot, all freshly cooked, quality ingredients. It was nice to have a gluten free option, I chose a very tasty bacon sandwich, with good quality, thick bacon. All the coffee's available. A nice selection of fresh fruit juices and smoothies. Staff were great, friendly and efficient. Food served promptly. We will definitely come again, and recommend to others.

Lovely little break for a cuppa, friendly staff, will come again to eat next time... Update went to lunch with friends had a fab jacket potato generous portion sizes for all plus salad 😋 good value for money

Attended my dads birthday party at the avenue, where they are regulars. I must say it was overall a really enjoyable night. The staff were attentive and clearly care very much about the experience people have when in the cafe. I’d also like to thank the staff for the love they show towards mum and dad, they dont have to but they do and are genuine with it. My kids are also regular visitors with their grand parents and love the breakfasts and the staff. Contary to one very odd review from a james may wanna be, I loved the evening and will definately be back ❤️

I arranged an 80th birthday party for my husband we had 70 guests who without exception, apart from one strange review , had a wonderful evening, the staff are amazing and work so hard and always try to please us!! We attended our friend's 80th Birthday party last week it was fantastic and emotional evening celebrating his milestone birthday with his family and close friends. A lot of work went into organizing this party and the venue was as always the perfect for a celebration. The staff were extremely polite and helpful, food, drinks and birthday cake (by Avenue cafe) was great as was the DJ playing music for all ages. We cannot praise the Avenue Cafe enough for making this such an enjoyable party for everyone.

Firstly thanks for my invite to your 80th birthday party. I was invited by my friend Nikki G to her neighbours 80th birthday party and I have to say it was great. The company was amazing, food was fantastic, DJ played great music. Also it was great to see the owners of the Avenue being invited to a customers party. Great party and venue can’t wait for the next invite.

My husband and I recently attended an evening 80th birthday celebration at The Avenue Cafe and it was a most enjoyable occasion. The staff, without exception, were friendly, helpful and efficient and couldn't do enough to ensure everything went smoothly. There was a great selection of drinks available and the buffet was exceptional - freshly-prepared, delicious and with a wide variety of foods ensuring something for everyone. If we lived nearer Bristol I am sure The Avenue Cafe would become a regular eatery for us and highly recommend.

Spacious, well thought out café, with a lovely conservatory area at the front, right behind Emerson's Green Retail Park. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced (I had breakfast from the Specials board) and staff are friendly and helpful. Good parking too. Will definitely visit again and recommend to others.

Thank you to everyone at avenue Cafe this morning, you didn't even flinch when 13 of us turned up for breakfast. You were able to sit us together and all of our food came out at the same time. Very professional lovely cafe and the food was delicious.

With my Partner away overnight visiting her family, I decided not to produce my own main meal of the day, and instead dine at this popular and most pleasant local café. Taking advantage of some, thankfully and unexpected, drier weather conditions I set-ff for a morning walk, but I checked-out the specials board here on my outbound route. I also established that specials were available, providing not sold out, all day; so early lunch here ‘was on’. After my walk I arrived here for my early lunch at about 11:20, and I was able to sit in comfort at a small table. It was very busy and bustling with contented-looking customers (save one baby who obviously, very vocally, had ‘had enough’). I would have chosen the burger (one of four specials listed on the board at the servery), but that was ‘Sold Out’. Two of the other specials didn’t really appeal (principally the lighter plates). I chose the ‘Thai Red Curry with Salmon and Prawns’, plus a generous cup of their really excellent Americano Coffee (with hot milk). The coffee here is really good, quite strong and rich with a lovely burnt caramel flavour, and it is always served really hot. This soon arrived and I sipped it, and had finished it well before my curry arrived. Yes, it was very busy and the kitchen staff were furiously working at full tilt to keep up with demand; I could clearly see this through the nearby serving hatch. My plate arrived and it looked very good: the curry was confined in a bowl on a plate that also included a reasonably-sized helping of boiled white rice, plus a medley of fresh veg: fine beans, carrots, and spring cabbage. The quantity of curry was reasonable; there was plenty of well cooked salmon in generously sized and tender chunks, and a few tender white prawns; which had been well-prepared. The sauce was hot and HOT (plenty of chilli heat). The rice was good, but had a couple of hard clumps needed to be broken-up with my fork. The veg could have been a bit hotter and a couple of the whole leaves of the cabbage were too tough to eat, conversely the carrots and fine beans were a tad overcooked. Yes I am picky about simple things like veg, but my expectations, when not met, need to be detailed; so that eateries know where to made improvements. The curry flavours were really good, and I was asked for a reaction by one of the attentive waiting staff (that my Partner and I are acquainted-with) to provide an opinion on the chilli strength. I advised that I felt that the majority of customers here would find the chilli heat a bit too strong. For me it was hot, but not excessively-so; others would be likely not to agree. The meal (with my coffee) was £17.10 and my hunger was well-sated.

Nice cafe, staff were lovely and the cake selection was amazing. Our only complaint is that it was busy and noisy - I do wish cafes would have more sound deadening, as it's quite hard to have a conversation, especially for the elderly who can't tune in to conversations so well.

I’ve been visiting the cafe for just around 5 years now and they have never missed a beat. Starting with the food, anything from breakfasts, brunch to cakes and coffee, they cater to every need for a catch up with friends or just a lovely bite to eat. Everyone of the servers are absolutely amazing, always friendly and willing to help and always amending food, coffee and service to your every need. For example, I don’t tend to have meat or dairy with a lot of my food and they always amend items on the menu to fit my needs. Always lovely to have a catch up and a chat as well! Highly reccomend coming to the avenue cafe if your ever in the area, the BEST cafe in Bristol and I won’t hear otherwise!

Waited over 45 min for egg Benedict when it came it was cold and sauce tasted so off that made the egg tasted. bad too

I've been there to time so far food it excellent it gets busy x might be best if you phone up and put it table you can see the food being cooked is unbelievable the quality of the chef so excellent I will be going back again soon look to the staff and management

Honest review? I arrived at about 11am and it was pretty busy which I expected knowing this cafe well as it is a local. I was greeted by a lady, short hair, only lady in a different uniform and when I told her that I was solo and was at the area where people waited to be seated, it's like her face immediately dropped. I felt a little discriminated against for this plus the fact that I was sat on a table with high uncomfortable stalls and no back support. Brilliant for someone who is 3 months pregnant with hip and back pain. Top suggestion here, ask customers if they have a preference in where they would like to be seated as there were much more comfortable looking seats lower to the floor nearby where I was seated. Now this might make people question why I didn't ask for a different table. Well, the fact of the matter is I felt like I was being watched like a hawk by the same lady when I was told what table to go to and when she seemed to notice that I was looking at the tables nearby. Made me feel comfortable to say the least! I ordered my food and that's where the customer experience got better. The food was served quickly, accompanied by my drink at the same time and by a member of staff who was cooking the food who used her initiative and saw that if she didn't serve it herself it would have been left to go cold. She even asked how I was and wished me a good day. Lovely lady. Then, it goes down hill again I'm afraid. This same lady, when she returned to the kitchen was treated not very nicely by her 2 fellow male colleagues. They were talking (well snapping) at her like dirt on the bottom of their shoe. I know it was busy but there's no reason to lack kindness to one another. When I ordered food it was appreciated that the lady at the till thanked me for making my order easier for her by telling her 2 of everything for my make your own breakfast. The food itself was ok. The positives were I like having the option to make your own breakfast... very much! (Fussy eater here!) However, as a customer who has been here a good few times as it is local to home, I've noticed a clear change. The produce used is by far not as good as it used to be and it is obvious that there have been some cut backs. I will second another reviewer and say that the tea that I had was not the nicest at all. The orange juice glasses used have clearly gotten smaller and the quality of the sausages are not good at all. Bacon was also pretty dry. Toast mind you was 👌 just how I like it and warm! My table was cleared quickly, I finished my tea and off I went. Sadly, without a thank you for my custom despite a number of staff nearby freely available. The atmosphere in the cafe I will say is difficult to take for someone who has a hidden disability which includes chronic fatigue. It can be simply too much which does put me off of going here sometimes.

A very popular cafe, because it's so popular it can take a while to get you seated but the staff are very friendly and helpful and keep you informed about when you will get a table. Once seated you have plenty to choose from and when it's served you will realise it was worth the wait. Would definitely recommend. Enjoy!!!

Good quality food and a good selection

Went to grab a coffee on my way to the nail shop & was so pleasantly surprised as I haven’t heard of this place before! Staff were so friendly , the food looked amazing & had a great selection of cakes! It you haven’t been I highly recommend making a trip! I will definitely be returning!

Terrible service yesterday, I've been here for lunch many times , the service is always slow but yesterday it was Terrible, left waiting for a table for a while to, waiting for a bagel with cream cheese and a panini for a hour

This is a nice informal Cafe with a lovely ambience and friendly staff, graced occasionally with the presence of King Kong in the background! Parking immediately outside can be tricky but it is a short walk to the superstore retail park car park I've the road.

Had breakfast here. Low quality produce you would expect from a greasy spoon. Over cooked eggs, dry bacon, breakfast van quality sausages and boiled tinned mushroom. What?! Overpriced. Guess they can get away with it as not much else around apart from Sainsbury’s cafe opposite. Which is actually probably better.

Only had a cup of tea. Cups unsuitable for tea, so thick that by the time the water had been in the crock pot and then in the cup it was not hot enough. Cakes looked visually appealing, very large portions. However, I saw no obvious signs of any healthy options. To be fair, I was with friends and didn't read the menu.

Marvellous coffee and amazing croissants. The place is very well decorated and comfortable. Staff is very welcoming and helpful. Also there is an outside parking spaces, not very big, only for 5-6 cars but it is very handful. Recommend place for a coffee, a meeting, or just to have an amazing coffee.

My favourite cafe when I'm visiting family nearby. Food is great, staff are lovely, it gets a bit noisy cos it's so popular but I can live with that. Hubby likes the cakes too. 😁

Great place to meet up with friends

First visit, excellent service spotless and food of a good standard. Front of house efficiency find you a table and get you seated, food took a little while to arrive but it was fine as the place was full. Nice coffee and good sized portions, service was very polite and friendly. We will be back.

Its a very well run café and everything is to a high standard and deserves to succeed

We were on the eve of an overseas holiday leaving very early the following morning, so we were not keen to cook anything for our main meal of the day. Fresh-food stocks had been run-down and so we decided that lunch-out was a good way to usher-in our holiday. We decided we should walk the 0.6 of a mile to this lovely café. We hadn’t made a reservation, but it was well-before 13:00 so there was a good chance that we could get a table. Fortunately, although the café was very busy, we were able to do just that. We took some time to study the menu and the specials board; but although tempted by the all-day breakfasts, and one or two of the ‘Daily Bites’ (particularly the ‘Cajun & Sundried Tomato Beef Burger’), we both opted for the same special plate. This was the ‘Creamy mustard garlic chicken with bacon pieces, spinach and new potatoes.’ After placing our orders we sat and chatted and people-watched, whilst my Partner had a really great Americano coffee (with hot milk). I enjoyed a ‘Mango Mania’ smoothie, the latter was excellent; so refreshing! As it was busy, it took some time for our food-orders to arrive, but the plates were well-worth the wait. The chicken and the potatoes in the flavoured cream sauce was excellent, and served with really lovely fresh sprigs of thyme. This was a delicate dish and although much enjoyed we agreed that we would have been a little more generous with the mustard; a personal preference as we do like strong flavours. The meal was certainly enough for us. Service here is invariably pleasant and efficient, and on this occasion it was ‘business as usual’.

We love coming here for coffee and lunch. The conservatory is dog friendly and a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the sun or rain. The food is excellent, can't fault it.

A lovely cafe and a gem in Emersons Green. But, the inability to order at the table is really frustrating. The cafe is understandably very popular and often really busy so there is invariably a little wait for the lovely fresh food. This means the drink you've ordered at the till with your breakfast has gone by the time the food comes out. Not an issue if the waiting staff could take a further drinks order at the table when they deliver the food, but for some reason they don't offer that service. So you're left with the option of either just eating with no drink, or re-joining the queue to order another drink and watching your breakfast go cold. This is a relatively minor point and is intended as constructive criticism rather than a gripe. The food, service and atmosphere are otherwise lovely. I just think tightening up this quick fix would make the cafe even better.

Love this place very relaxing atmosphere, fantastic food always

My wife is a regular here for breakfast and has nothing but praise for it so we tried it out on an evening with two other couples. I don't think the name does it justice as I had visions of it being a standard cafe but it is more like a pub / restaurant. It is very tastefully decorated, modern and clean. On the night we went they had live music, a guitarist / singer, who was very good but because of this the place was full. The staff were great but probably short on numbers as the service was a quite slow. However, the food, we all had tapas at 3 dishes for £18, was very good and overall was a very good evening. If the service had been quicker then I would have probably stretched to a 5 star. Will go back.

The Avenue Cafe serves fantastic coffee, delicious snacks and the smoothies are to die for. The staff are always super friendly and efficient and it's a really great place to meet friends. Definitely recommend!

Unfortunately we could where we wanted as there wasn't four of us.. My sandwich the bread was dry on the outside of bread

This, our local café, normally closes in the late-afternoon about 17:00 this time of year; but occasionally it opens-up on a Friday evening, until late, to provide a tapas evening with live music. These are occasions which we try to support as much as we can. Tonight was the latest of three such events that we have enjoyed supporting; it was also the last of the, I believe, four summer events have been held. The format, was as before, to stagger table reservation times to allow the kitchen to efficiently produce plates to order. This reservation system helps avoid what could be bottlenecks, that would surely result, if too many orders flood in at the more-popular times. The menu is the same for all of these events; our preferences were again to the fore for certain plates, as follows: Chicken Skewers - Greek style marinaded with yoghurt. Vegetable Spring Rolls with sweet chilli dip - crispy, crunchy rolls filled with savoury mix of vegetables. Lamb kofta balls with tzatziki dip. Patatas Bravas - crispy potatoes in a salsa brava with a creamy aioli. Skin-on fries. It was once-again a much enjoyed meal and, on this occasion, we had invited my Son to join us. He really enjoyed the plates and the atmosphere. Wine: we chose a bottle of the ‘Definition Pinot Grigio’ from north-eastern Italy: very complex and much-enjoyed: excellent. This bottle was my Son’s contribution to the evening (apart from, of course, his company). We followed that with a bottle of the ‘Pringle Bay’ Sauvignon Blanc from the Western Cape, South Africa: this was very good; wonderfully refreshing. My Partner and I paid for that one! Wine here is not too expensive, especially bearing in mind the quality. A note to say that the Patatas Bravas plate was excellent on this occasion, because the potatoes were indeed crispy. Our favourite plate, for all three of us, was however the ‘Vegetable Spring Rolls’. These were absolutely fabulous, such a great texture. If this plate was regularly featured on the menu, I am sure it would be a very popular choice. The provision of a sweet chilli dipping sauce is a masterpiece of culinary inspiration. The music for all of these events was a duo singing covers of popular songs accompanied by acoustic guitars. They use guitar mics to amplify the music an their vocals. On previous occasions the band have not been too loud; sadly tonight they were. There were times that we couldn’t hear each other speak, and my Partner had to twice ask the band to tone it down. There is a time and place for loud music and this wasn’t it.

Great outside seating when the weather is good, pleasant indoors too. The staff are very competent and well-trained. Food was delicious, my bagel and cream cheese had loads of smoked salmon. If definitely go there again. Plenty of parking opposite in the retail parking area.

Our second visit to this excellent local café / restaurant for their Friday night event with live music. Tonight we were sat in the rear dining-area of the café. Tables here appeared not to be too tightly packed, probably because (unlike the last visit to a Friday night event here) the conservatory was opened-up this evening. We were a tad early for our reservation, but tables are ‘yours for the night’. Reservation times are staggered in which to allow the kitchen to promptly get orders cooked and out to tables. Whilst we waited we ordered a bottle of the ‘Definition Pinot Grigio’ from north-eastern Italy. This complex Pinot was excellent, and very much enjoyed. The amplified acoustic duo had commenced their first set; their selection of gently played songs was entirely suitable for the occasion. Generally people applauded after each song, so it was obvious that people were listening-to and enjoying their performance. We studied the “Small Plates” (Tapas) menu and after a short while we were invited to place our food order, so we chose: Hummus and tzatziki with pitta bread Chicken Skewers - Greek style marinaded with yoghurt (2 servings) Garlic King Prawns - garlic butter, parsley, lemon on toasted crouton (2 servings) Vegetable Spring Rolls - crispy, crunchy rolls filled with savoury mix of vegetables (2 servings) Lamb kofta balls with tzatziki dip (2 servings) Skin-on fries For dessert we chose: Baklava with cream and pistachios (for my Partner) Chocolate Brownie with Marshfield ice cream and salted caramel sauce (for myself) The meal was excellent and the tapas met or exceeded expectations particularly the chicken skewers and the lamb koftas. Surprisingly my favourite plate tonight, and bearing in mind I am a confirmed meat-eater, was the Vegetable Spring Rolls. They were just so refreshing; having a moist crunchy texture. Favourites indeed, so-much-so that, when it came towards the end of our meal, my Partner couldn’t find room to finish one of her two remaining plates. So, either a chicken skewer or a vegetable spring roll had to be eaten-up (such a hardship for me). I chose the spring roll! It is a special plate, especially with every bite dipped into the hot sweet chilli dip; just sublime. The desserts were good, but I wouldn’t order the Brownie again; it wasn’t gooey enough. Service was excellent and we were well looked after by our cheerful and lively waiter.

Lovely food, nice clean and good atmosphere, busy though, but thats not a bad thing, speaks volumes about the food in my opinion.

Gorgeous restaurant/café. Beautiful decor. Very friendly staff. Food is very nice. Lovely terrace out the front for sitting outside.

Very good, prompt and friendly service excellent breakfast sandwich which was well presented. Coffee was good too. Would definitely return when I'm in the area again thanks 👍
