Austen's Cafe in East Hampshire

Popped in for lunch last week and found a little gem I really enjoyed lunch and will be back again

Found this cafe whilst in Alton. Food excellent, service extremely friendly. Would definitely recommend this cafe for lunch, coffee or after tea

Great selection of home cooked food and cakes. As if that wasn't enough, the atmosphere and dedication of the owner surpasses any I have experienced before. If you haven't been, go!! Book a table as this little gem is popular and rightly so!

We stopped at the Austen's Cafe for a delicious English breakfast before going to Jane Austen's House in Alton. The English breakfast came in a full size with 2 of everything and the lighter English my wife had had half of everything and was just as good. The eggs, bacon, sausage and everything were very good. The portions were a good size, the teas were fantastic and the prices were very fair. They have quite a few tempting dessert options at the counter that we would like to try but we were stuffed after breakfast. This is a popular spot with the locals and the friendly man at the counter was talking up their new ice cream machine which would be coming soon. There is free and affordable parking nearby.

What an absolute gem! Enjoyed a delicious lunch today. Great selection of cakes and very friendly service. We look forward to returning soon.

Excellent coffee and cake; great place to meet; good humour from 'Austen'!

We found this little cafe in Alton that was dog friendly so we decided to have coffee and cake. The guy who owned it was very friendly and helpful and the coffee was lovely and hot. The selection of beautiful cakes was amazing. While there we booked to have a roast on the Wednesday with our friends who were arriving the following day to join us on holiday. The roast was a lamb shank with lots of vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding and it even had stuffing. It was lovely and hot and we had two big jugs of gravy for the four of us. Johnathan who served us was excellent and we could not fault the service. We would definitely go back again, such good value for the money.

Fantastic service for a breakfast with friends - I asked in advance for both GF and Vegan requirements and they were met. Lovely friendly service, nothing too much trouble. Thank you!

Booked this café after my trip to Jane Austen’s house and it was wonderful! My server was incredibly friendly and my Afternoon Tea was delicious. If I come back to England, this will be a repeat stop! (I had trouble trying to call ahead so I direct messaged the café on Instagram and they got back to me very quickly, too)

Austen’s is the best café for miles and miles. Fabulous full English breakfast at a very decent price followed by the best iced coffee money can buy.

We now understand why this is the number one place to eat in the area. So far we’ve tried breakfast, cappuccino & cakes and look forward to trying mores delicious food. A fantastic place and service.

This small but busy cafe is off the main road but is well worth seeking out. The guy running the place makes you feel welcome straight away and our trio of ladies who lunch loved his banter. The menu isn't huge and mostly has the standard cafe fare of sandwiches, soup, paninis, jacket potatoes and breakfasts but includes a selection of cocktails! The quality of the food is excellent and it's nicely presented. A friend, who is quite particular, said the soup was as good as her homemade - high praise! My panini was stuffed full of cheese, onion and locally sourced sausage and was delicious. We all agreed that we couldn't wait to go back there.

Popped in for brunch after my daughters wedding yesterday. There were 6 of us, four adults and two children under 8yrs. The owner was great at making us feel welcome and attentive to our needs. Breakfast menu didn't disappoint we enjoyed the food and coffee 😋

Went in for a coffee and had the early bird scrabbled egg on toast and coffee for £4.50 wow now that's value for money it was excellent but best to book I was lucky it was busy at 9.30

First of all the best service I've ever experienced in a cafe, the food is also amazing quality, I have been a chef in a couple of 5 star restaurants and can't fault it. Over all I think this is my favourite cafe now, especially with the amaretto latte, many other amazing flavours to choose from too. Maximum stars. Extra for the witty service. Best around.

After a horrible journey from Plymouth, my blood sugars dictated that I should eat and I found Austen's café. I was greeted with such friendliness that it made me feel like I was coming home, how lovely. The food I had was fabulous and presented impeccably. Such lovely people. Thank you to them.

Stumbled across this gem of a cafe by chance. Enjoyed a freshly cooked brekkie, made to order which was simply delish! Friendly owner who offered us a very warm welcome. Sneaked a takeaway cranberry & pistachio tiffin - 10/10!

Lovely relaxed atmosphere and our food, which was a snack lunch of pannini and a sandwich, was really tasty. The pannini was requested without mozzarella, which was absolutely no trouble. Good builders’ tea and excellent service!

Stopped in for breakfast this morning, after doing a quick search, to get us fuelled for a wedding later today. What can we say, we were not disappointed! Had one of the best breakfasts we’ve had for a long time, accompanied by great service and a lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend, this great little gem of a cafe, and would go back in a heart beat, if ever back down this way.

Such a friendly place with great food. Went with family and discovered they don't do breakfast on a Monday as the stock runs low over the weekend. They were super lovely and managed to make us all breakfasts. Really well cooked, not oily and fresh cooked. Definitely recommend

Today I had the best Brie and bacon panini accompanied with a side order of delicious coleslaw. Dessert was a FPP, an ice cream and fudge combination that is my absolute favourite. The food is always delicious at Austen’s, whether it’s a full English breakfast - you really need to book as it’s so popular - the aforementioned panini, or a jacket potato. There are lots of other dishes to choose from and they are all top. And look out for the occasional “special” Greek Meze or Spanish tapas weekend. They really are delicious!! Jon is the perfect host with his charm and with, but you will see his caring side too with all patrons, catering for everyone’s needs. Rob does all the cooking is equally fabulous . They are a great team and have made Austen’s the best café in Hampshire.

Finally got to visit Austens cafe ,my neighbour has been telling me how good it is for a while and I wasn't disappointed. Laughed a lot Jonathan is very funny and friendly and the Jacket potato with prawns was delicious. The chocolate brownie was yummy meant to take half home for hubby but it didn't make it home sadly ! Will be a regular meeting place with my friend for lunch now definitely recommend it good music too !

As usual we had a great experience, Rob and Jonathan are great hosts, with a great sense of humour, and caring attitude to their customers. This cafe would not be same without them. Food was as usual good as were the desserts and drinks.

What a find. Cooked breakfast was fantastic. The owner was really friendly and couldn’t do enough to ensure I was happy with my coffee and breakfast. Only complaint was, I shouldn’t have had the delicious Bakewell Tart, as now I’m struggling to walk!!

It has been sometime since I visited this cafe, but on May 7th 2 friends and I booked in for their tapas lunch. One if my friends is blind, so we had her guide dog with us, and the welcome for both humans and dog was great, up to the standard previously experienced. There was a good range of tapas on offer, and we all enjoyed the lunch. Service was great, we enjoyed the repartee, nothing was rushed and my blind friend felt respected and wanted. I would recommend this cafe without hesitation.
