Atomic Burger in Oxford

We planned a visit on a day out in Oxford and walked 20 minutes out of the centre only to find the restaurant has closed down. We checked their website, Google, Facebook and Instagram and there is no mention that they are closed although there have been updates for the Bristol venue. Atomic Burger, if this changes please respond and I will happily remove this comment but I don't want anyone else suffering the disappointment we did!

We had a booked and confirmed reservation for my son’s birthday but when we arrived the restaurant was closed. Shall y ever be booking again as you can’t trust them

Came to this restaurant on national burgers day, it was only right. We welcomed by this lovely lady who made us aware she was on only one on the floor incase there would be a wait but. she was fantastic. The burgers were great and fresh and a broad selection of drinks to wash it down.

Tasty burgers, both Chicken Cluck Berry and The Jake + Elwood. Delicious milkshakes. Quirky venue, full of memorabilia. All topped up with an excellent customer service. Very much recommended.

What a great place! Wonderful food (for vegetarians and others), reasonable prices, friendly staff, great atmosphere! I can't wait to go back! 5 starts.

Lovely burger and fries in a very cool looking cafe which Is decorated in 80s toys, posters and stickers and has a giant Spider-Man hanging from the ceiling. The prices were reasonable too. Highly recommend

The staff were very friendly and provided good service. The food though was very expensive for what you got. £17.25 for a very tiny chicken burger and fries. The flavours that sound great on the menu were lacking in reality. Nice atmosphere for kids, but the prices do not reflect the food unfortunately.

Delicious food, generous portions and great service. All set in the quirkiest surroundings one could imagine. Not a whiff of pretension about this place. Great for friends, families and couples. A really fun, quality place to grab a meal and chill.

Got to give our TripAdvisor search the credit for this one. About a 15 minute walk from the city centre, this place jumps out at you on the pavement and continues to deliver inside. A comic and pop culture fans dream, the decor includes everything from artpop wallpaper, original boxed figurines, muppets and Spiderman on the ceiling! The menu is made up of nachos, burgers and hot dogs of various types, catering to various diets, and based on our Johnny B Bad and Tallahassee choices we'd say you're in safe hands with whatever you go for. Full of flavour, and with a side included with every main the plate (and our tummies) were pleasantly packed!! A place for good food, great tunes and a warm welcome - definitely recommend

If you like burgers, American style food, and comic book characters or children’s cartoons, then you must eat here. On Crowley Road leading out of Oxford centre into bustling studentsville, the place itself is rammed with memorabilia and pictures, with quirky use of such accoutrements throughout. Then the food is amazing, mouth watering and as a bonus you are entertained from start to finish… if you even can, the portions are huge.

The burger was great. The variety of fries were all yummy especially the sweet potato fries. My kids love the milkshakes a lot. I love the decorations and the atmosphere as it recalled my old memories.

This place was great! Atmosphere and decor was very cool (I got to show my kids a VHS tape!). Burgers, fries, beers and shakes were all very good. Staff was very accommodating and the kids enjoyed it!

We had a table for two, and ordered a beef burger and a vegan burger, The vegan option was very dry and my beef burger was pretty plain. The chips were so-so. Not sure I'd return. The waitress was nice enough though.

Excellent find, great food with a great atmosphere! The setting for a start is full of retro nostalgic memorabilia, couldn’t stop looking around. Then onto the food an service, both faultless. The selection of burgers was just perfect, something for everybody, could have easily tried more than one. Everyone’s looked so tasty, were no complaints and would definitely recommend.

Visited with my sister and her fiancé last week while in town for the festive season. They'd visited before and raved about the 'Man v Food' style burgers - though having had a good Christmas I'm not sure any of us needed this!Staff were very polite, attentive and helpful with a few questions we had. I settled on a 'Jolene' Beef Burger, which was topped with bacon, American Cheese and Jalapenos served with sci-fries. The waitress checked we were happy with med-rare burgers, to which we all said yes (though I wasn't sure being a burger, but trusted their recommendation). Our meals came out in good time, the sci-fries were excellent (and I mean, excellent) and the toppings made a great combo. Two disappointments were that the burger was a little dry having not come med-rare (I was initially happy with this), but the main thing was the Brioche bun wasn't toasted. I guess we should have all asked for this to happen, but wrongly assumed this would be standard. This caused the bun to have a slightly crumbly texture, which didn't ruin the burger but took away the extra 'Wow!' when eating it.My sister managed to then destroy a Cookie Monster milkshake, which looked incredible.Overall a very nice meal with efficient service; if not slightly tinged with disappointment in the burger. Next time I'll be sure to ask for the bun to be toasted and the burger to come medium.Also maybe slightly overpriced, but quite honestly if the burger had been 100% amazing I wouldn't have thought anything of the cost.

My son had been to the Atomic Burger in Bristol and wanted to go to the Oxford restaurant for his birthday. Looking at the menu online, it appeared that the vegetarian/vegan options were really good so we booked a table for the evening. When I requested a gluten free bun (which incidentally cost 75p more than a standard bun) with a vegetarian patty, I was informed that this wasn't gluten free. The vegan hot dog is gluten free but they didn't have any available. I ended up with the topping - BBQ jackfruit - which was overpowering, sloppy and made the bun fall apart. The garlic and rosemary fries were tasty, but did nothing to redeem the meal. What really annoyed me was that I was then charged full price for the burger - even though it had no patty. Totally ruined the experience for my son because he was excited to share one of his favourite burger restaurants with us. Sorry, but we won't be back.

My boyfriend and I went for lunch on my birthday. Reading the menu we were surprised to see that for anybody who's birthday it was would receive a free main course .... Fantastic . Unfortunately the experience was completely spoilt by the attitude of the waiter who asked for ID to prove it was my birthday...fine! However upon me providing my ID his attitude was very poor and he handed my ID back without as much as a comment....a "happy birthday" might have been nice.

Took my brother here for a birthday meal - he was keen to visit again after his last trip in 2011. The decor was veru impressive- every square inch of wall space covered in comic book/sci-fi/children's TV memorabilia! We read on the restaurant's blog that there was a promotion that day to celebrate 'international time traveller's day' so we got a free drink each because we asked the staff what year it was. And because it was my brother's birthday that very day, he even got his main course free! My brother had halloumi fries as a starter which he said were very good (he should know), then the Dead Elvis Burger which he also really enjoyed. He is gluten and dairy intolerant and the staff were really good at explaining what he could/could not have from the menu (there was a separate gluten free menu). I have some dietary restrictions too but the staff were amazingly accommodating and allowed me to make up my own bespoke salad using the additional toppings list for the burgers. It was really nice just to linger afterwards and talk amongst all the fun stuff.

Went in a busy Saturday night - booking is essential - and had a great meal. Quirky decor and 00s music was a throwback to my youth and made for a great atmosphere.

We've been coming here for a few years and while the food had dipped recently, it's definitely back up to where it used to be. If you're celiac, there's a huge choice of options for you. Only reason we don't go more often is that the prices are creeping up quite a bit but the place is always full so guessing they won't come down soon.

They seem to have taken a hit on quality in order to provide the number of different options they do. Which is fine because they still put out some good stuff. And I don’t necessarily think the ingredients are where they take that hit because everything was tasty enough, it just wasn’t put together as well as you’d hope. If it’s got ‘burger’ in the name then the burger should be the signature and it just didn’t set me on fire (maybe I should have had the __nuke__? Haha...), but I get what they’re trying to accomplish and they do that well, so four stars.

My title isn't overexagerating this either, I'm a big guy and a bit of a burger connoisseur. These burgers are delicious!

This place has it all, awesome burgers (I might go as far to say the best burgers?), delicious fries and milkshakes that'll blow your mind. The menu is extensive and just pure genius. Set in quirky little joint, with nostalgia in every inch of the place, you can't help but feel transported, both in body and in tastebuds.

Really funky place, and the food is delicious! I had the vegan hotdog and the sweet potato fries, as well as a milkshake. All were delicious and very filling! I thought the prices were entirely acceptable. What a fab little restaurant!

We visited while staying in Oxford, and had a fab time here. The food was delicious, loads of vegetarian choice and really reasonably priced. The way the restaurant was decorated was so fun and interesting, and the staff could not have been more attentive and went really out of their way to make us feel welcome. I have recommend it to so many people since and can’t wait to visit again on our next visit to oxford

Somos estadounidenses que vivimos en Oxford, pero incluso nuestros amigos holandeses están de acuerdo en que Atomic Burger on Cowley es la mejor hamburguesa de Oxford. Visited last weekend with family . Lucy was as friendly and helpful as ever . Burgers are still the best in Oxford with a great range of topping . Always busy on Saturdays so book !

Had the pleasure of revisiting here and being served by the lovely Lucy who was friendly, attentive but without being overbearing. Fantastic customer service. Food was delicious and came out in a timely manner. Totally recommend this place if you haven't tried it before.

Fun night out in the lively Atomic Burger. Fun music and great burgers. The Kahlua milkshake was a perfect ending to the evening. Lots of gluten free options.

We arrived to a very full restaurant (having not booked) but the lady serving (I am assuming she is the manager) managed to seat us within a few minutes. She was extremely lovely - so friendly and effective - exactly what customer service should be like.

Came here for a birthday meal on the recommendation of some friends. Certainly did not disappoint. Wonderful food full of flavour. The Truffle Shuffle milkshake and Dirty Fries were epic. My other half has proclaimed it to be a new favourite restaurant! Staff very friendly; particularly Lucy. Nice atmosphere in there with good music and fun décor. If we return to Oxford we will without fail be returning to Atomic Burger!

Really nice little place. Excellent decor for the geek amongst you. Service was astounding. Food was excellent. Recommend the burger in between two cheese grilled sandwiches. Shakes are awesome as are the desserts. Well worth the very reasonable prices.

Nice and geeky interior. They have an offer for the birthday people, that's why we went there. However, the burgers are a bit dry and overly chewy, would not recommend for the price (you can find better burgers in the city centre for the same price). The skinny fries are yummy.

Originally booked for 3 persons. Phoned up and asked for an extra 5 to the party. They delivered! Rocked up and greeted by possibly the friendliest waitress ever. Was really busy and put in 100% to make sure things were good for us. All waitresses we dealt with were amazing. Engaging with the children in the party and constantly smiling. One was even singing as she prepared drinks. I’ve never experienced a eatery where all staff were as happy as they were. The decor even brought nostalgic memories with the decor. And the kids loved it. 100% would recommend this place.

This is a very unique diner that delivers on every level... certainly on my visits anyway! It combines great food, within a superhero environment...(spiderman hanging from the ceiling) fun and friendly staff that go the extra mile and some delicious milkshakes and cocktails. A good place for all ages to go - there will definitely be something for every age to reminesce on. It was so good the first time that we went back a few days later and were regularly dreaming of eating their cauliflower wings ... most definitely the best I have ever tasted! ... even for those meat lovers. In our group we had a vegan a vegie and a meat lover so were able to cater for everyone's needs. You can select your bun (also offer gluten free options), pattie, toppings and then sides. You will definitely not leave hungry!! There is even an old games machine that has minimum 6 old games to have a go on! Would highly recommend it!

Atomic Burger has a very individual vibe about it. The decor inside is full of old toys that make you think .... oh I had one of those or oh I never did get one of those. There’s Star Wars toys, vhs cassettes littered about even a gigantic Spider-Man. This place it’s clear is a bit different. The menu is great lots of choice. The food that we had was superb. Decent portion sizes and tasted great. Service was great aswell really friendly waitress who explained who the brain child of the place was. Will be going back

Estupendous atmosphere! I checked out every single frame of vintage wallpaper, searched for my favorite characters and even laughed when entered the loo (find out when you go). Every detail was enjoyable.

First time I came to Atomic Burger was at least 9 years ago... and I was hooked, I think I went there at least once a month if not more. Since moving from Oxford 7 years ago however I've only been back to the area a couple of times, so this time I took up the chance to go again.

Found this place to eat before a gig at the o2 Academy nearby. Incredible food made even better by the staff, so friendly and upbeat, with a great selection of music and beers 🙏🤛😁

This is a must visit foody destination if you like burgers and all things comic related. The restaurant is decorated with countless items of childhood nostalgia. Super cool and super tasty.

We ate here a few times on our short stay in town. Very cool comics/ 80's toys/ movies/ music decor, nice friendly staff and DELICIOUS food. Many vegan options, which's highly appreciated, but something for everyone. They do take away and are on a delivery service as well, which's nice.

Fourteen of us came to Atomic Burger on a stag do in March 2019. We had pre-booked, and a table was ready for us. We liked the comic book theming (e.g. Han Solo trapped in carbonite).

Like G&Ds; this establishment is overhyped by all oxford students and locals as the greatest burger place of all time. Its not! The burgers are ok but they try to lure you with infinite toppings which make for a fun experience but a dissapointing meal. That being said the sci-fries are double yummy and the ultra spicy challenge is fearsome.

Visited this quirky and fun restaurant with my daughter. Very friendly service and the burgers are fabulous. If you like a great burger this is a must visit venue! The nachos were great too, fresh red chilli and perfectly grilled.

Unfortunately after my visit I suffered food poisoning. But my parter truly enjoyed his meal. The staff were very polite.

My partner and I visited atomic burger yesterday for my birthday and it was the first time going. The service was outstanding, I can’t expesss how great it was, Lucy was a true gem. She was so polite and friendly. The venue was full of happy customers and it’s all because of Lucy. She was so lovely to every one and made everyone feel welcome. It was busy and I didn’t feel rushed at all, the food didn’t take long to come out either. I felt like she was my friend when she was speaking to me, Lucy was great! The atmosphere in there was amazing, just looking around the room everyone was smiling and laughing!

Booked a table here for 3 adults and a big teenager but were sat at a table 90cm square when there were larger tables around, didn’t complain as I would expect to be sat in a larger table to start with and wanted to see if they noticed our discomfort, but no. Staff were otherwise lovely and the food was great, good decor and great location for both the O2 and The Bullingdon music venues.

Atomic Burger is a place for comics and 90's fans: you can see toys from these times and comics everywhere (even in loos). The more you look around the more details of the interior you see! They have build your onw burger menu: you can choose bun, meat, sopus, extras, fries. my burger was huge and juicy (would prefer to have option without fries though) and I didn't finish. The milkshake was also huga and very good. The design of the place is not my thing, but it is OK to have a burger here once in a while.

The place is really quirky and different and staff very friendly. Menu a little confusing, but food generous and tasty! Drinks menu limited if you don't drink beer, hence only 4 rated.

We had an amazing burger, probably the best in Oxford, with a perfect '80s atmosphere! My burger "The Cordell" was amazing and the guy, Gian was really nice recommending our food and drinks! We got a Lollies as finish touch!!!! 🙂 🙂 We will back!

Went on a Saturday lunchtime, we did call ahead to reserve a table, this was my first visit and I will definitely go back again, The place is really quirky and fun, the staff were very friendly and explained how things worked. My friend is a vegetarian and their veggie burger was very good apparently, I had a "Dead Elis" {beef} and hippy {garlic} fried, the service was great and the food was excellent, Did not need a starter or dessert as you get a massive plate and the burger is huge !

2 servers were really friendly sat me down quickly and got my order in too. Great burger, fresh meat and tasty bun! Highly recommended!

Fui a comer a este lugar con dos amigos. El local es muy agradable, la comida es muy buena. ¡Puedes crear tu propio hamberger usando los ingredientes que prefieras! Tomé el pan blanco con mermelada de cebolla, pechuga de pollo (estaba acostumbrado a ver una hamburguesa de pollo, ¡pero en este lugar usan el pechuga en su lugar! ¡Qué bueno ...!) Y cohetes, y papas fritas dulces.
