The Oxford Blue in Oxford

Booked on line for my Mother’s Day treat , got there and found they were shut for a private function !!!!! The place outside looked really rough for a pub that was supposed to be refurbished . Will never bother with this pub again

Pub seems like it has closed down, although there is no info on their official sites. I booked a table online through their website but they don't answer the phone, answer any messages thought social media, drive to the pub on Friday 8pm was shut. Disappointing that they don't have up to date info anywhere.

Expensive but nice food and drink

All the staff seemed like they really didn't want to be there, food was subpar but expensive, 15% service charge added to bill.

Many wines out of stock, slow service.

Service is very friendly and the food I can recommend.

Friendly and helpful - good selection - comfy too

Came for the pizza and stayed for the dogs. Great pub, playlist has been carefully compiled which sets a warm and charismatic vibe. Food menu is varied & excellent, I've not made it past pizzas yet but not surprising when they're priced at just a few pounds more than a pint, beer bellied temptation is hard to resist. Never had a flat beer on the occasions I've been here. Highly recommended. Local punters also friendly and warm. Extra bonus points as this is reviews in January 🙏😂👍

Lovely pub where dogs are made very welcome, with beds, mats and water bowls for them. Food was excellent and service was good.

Had a roast Sunday dinner but shades of a well-known Irish airline in the way it was priced. Very significant charges for both vegetables and service supercharged the final bill! I know it's Oxford but.....

Visited for Sunday lunch asked for beef well done. When served ( not well done) I was told by the male server ‘we don’t do custom orders’. We were offered no condiments or sauces. When we paid, I explained why I had left my beef, explaining it had been inedible due to being too rare for my taste. The girl serving told me it was her fault and they would bear requests in mind in future. When I explained that this didn’t help, I was told that they would ask if they were able to compensate with a free drink. All in all very poor.

Lovely cosy pub, we love how the glasses of wine gets served in a mini carafe, so cute. Food is really good, mini pizzas are not as mini as you’d expect!

I went to join a group of friends after a formal dinner, and was forced to buy a drink or told to leave, even though all my friends had spent so much that night and I was quite full after a dinner already. Nice-looking place but paid £6.30 for a pint of Guinness, which must make this by far the most expensive pub in Oxford 😮

We were hoping to make Oxford Blue our local pub. However, we became extremely overwhelmed with the professionalism of the staff! Even making a reservation at the pub is an impossible challenge! We can not, in good conscience recommend this pub.

absolutely delicious food, the pizza's are incredible and the Game Ragu is perfect on a cold day. always look forward to coming and seeing Bonnie - even if she does try to steal the food!

Very tasty fresh food. Cosy, dog friendly lounge. and very welcoming staff. Our food was a bit slow coming but was worth the wait and the host gave us a discount to compensate.

Had a lovely meal as a family here. The two waiters were brilliant and though very busy, gave excellent service and ensured a wonderful time. Food was fabulous and great kitchen set up. The ale selection was also brilliant. Definitely recommend

Came here with some fellow students on a Summer School placement. We took a Ghanaian student who was in England for the first time, as an example of a proper English pub, and they were impressed! Selection of drink was good, prices were average for Oxford (expensive but not eye-wateringly so) and they had some excellent nuts and snacks. Getting wine served in a mini carafe was slightly novel, but we all liked it. The staff were really good though, friendly patient and the place had a dog in it, which is always the gold standard for a proper pub.

How lovely Victoria is....a very warm welcome and so attentive. The pub has a great layout. Highly recommend a visit if you're in Oxford.

We visited this delightful pub on Friday, together with a friend who used to visit this pub as a student 53 years ago, when it was called The Swan. Warm welcome from the staff, who were helpful and informative about the menu. We each enjoyed our delicious lunch from the varied and creative menu. Recommended after visiting the art exhibition at John the Baptist church nearby.

Customer service is excellent, very friendly. I liked the pizza and the lager too. The quiet and very British place.

I had a great evening here tonight. A delicious stone baked pizza from their outdoor pizza oven. Tasty and filling. A friend had the salmon which he said was delicious too. Great beer and Aspall's cider too. The staff were also very friendly I would thoroughly recommend a visit. I will be coming back soon.

I spent 10 minutes listening to a poor chap getting a properly dressed down in the kitchen by the manager and his wife ( I assume). Made me feel physically sick. Left before I could finish my pint.

I found the Blue by accident and it’s now my favourite in Oxford. It is out of the way although only a 5 min walk from the Magdalen Bridge & city centre. There is a real word mouth of buzz about the place because once you go, you keep going and tell all your friends. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly with a real community vibe. There is a good little garden at the back and seating out front with sun late into the evening. I love the “dog station” at the entrance with dog beds and treats. They do a lot to feature local artists and musicians but in an effortless way that avoids being too hip or artsy. The staff are attentive and the couple who run it are the sort who remember your name and order after 1 visit. The food is not ordinary pub grub. Even the more casual wood fired pizzas are on another level. You can tell that however non-fussy, it is a menu delivered by people who really know and love good food. The “lunch club” offer is absurdly good value and there are always really yummy vegan/vegetarian options. The wine selection is unexpectedly well curated. My friends who are into beer say good things, and although “cheap” isn’t necessarily a virtue, it’s not an expensive place to have a few drinks after work. I can’t say enough good things, only that this is the kind of “local” that makes a neighbourhood and the quality of the food and service makes it well worth a visit.

Went today for a Sunday roast. Staff could not have been friendlier and extremely accomodating to dietary needs. Asked for meat to be fully cooked through and instead of just shoving it in oven to dry out they braised it in gravy so it was still tender. Cabbage was top notch, massive roasties and Yorkshire's and overall a massive portion which you cannot fault for £12.50. highly recommended anyone go here for a Sunday roast for a great over all service and food. Excuse messy photo- took after I started!

Visit to Oxford Blue after seeing an ‘A’ board advertisement on Cowley Road about the food on offer. So glad we came across it as the food is excellent. Enjoyed a Sunday roast which was delicious and a very generous helping. Limited menu but the food could not be faulted. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Thanks will return again soon.

OK so this is a really really good pub for food. especially if you're feeling hungry and like carbs. When I've been I've had plates of pickled veg and eggs to start. Then pasta and meatballs, and amazing spicy pizzas, for a main. The landlady is super-lovely too!

We were only staying in Oxford for 2 nights (myself, husband and 2 teens). We came here for our last evening dinner, tired after 2 days of city walking. I found it from looking at the Google maps and realising it was literally around the corner from where we’re staying and then seeing the good reviews. My husband popped in first to see if we needed to book and was came back to report how friendly they were. We went back and later to eat and had lovely food. Though it is a pub, it doesn’t feel like a dark old man’s pub. It is bright and happy feeling. All the staff are welcoming and lovely. The food was delicious and unusual… but my son was happy to find pizza on the menu! Lots of seasonal dishes and plenty for vegetarians. Brilliant. Will definitely return.

Enjoyed a delicious Sunday roast dinner at the Oxford Blue today, our first visit to the pub and look forward to returning as the food and service were both excellent. We had the pork roast, ham roast and the vegetarian mushroom roast and they were large portions and very tasty indeed. Give it a try as this was a lovely family friendly lunch destination.

went for a Sunday roast with a few mates, had a roast stirloin beef with two Yorkshire’s and some really good roasties! local brewery sourced lager as well which was a bonus. The service was excellent and friendly. Coming back next week for another roast.

Regular user for both food and drinks, excellent food and very friendly staff. Surprised at the one star review as they are usually very accommodating, maybe an off day but possible a self entitled complainer of which there are many who complain unnecessarily about the hospitality business. Just look at the majority of the reviews to get an accurate picture of what this place is about🤔.

Slightly off the beaten track the Oxford Blue has a bit more of a chilled out vibe than many of the other pubs around Cowley road. Combine that with good beer at a reasonable price, and I'm a fan. 😁👌

I was here on a Friday night with a group of friends and had a very unpleasant experience with one of the waitress. She made a couple of unpleasant remarks to the point we fell surveilled and judged for absolutely normal behavior. The other waitress was unproblematic, but I will not be coming back.

Great late evening meal. Immediately welcomed. Varied menu, good selection of beers and wines. Proper pub atmosphere. Couldn't be better. My two friends from North Oxford (!?) were most impressed. We love Bonnie the hound as well. Already planning a return visit.

He's a lovely man who tries to do everything, but we had to keep chasing for the drinks and the starter of roast potatoes was just roast potatoes. And the venison stew was fine if I'd cooked it, and believe me, I ain't anything special..maybe it'll improve, I hope so as the proprietor tries real hard but...

Brilliant! Worthy of 5 stars in every way. This is not typical pub food but rather excellent cuisine, prepared fresh, and beautifully presented. Cozy. Comfortable. Classic…An English Pub that feels like home. The owners are committed to excellence and the staff is welcoming and friendly. You do NOT want to miss this dining experience. My favorite Oxford pub whether just for a drink or for an amazing meal.

This is my local but very welcoming to visitors from no matter how far. All of the food is prepared on the premises and the quirky menu never fails to delight, with daily specials. Bonnie the two year old lurcher is a great asset. I am in here most days and the staff are always friendly and helpful.

Who wouldn’t love a pub that serves real ale, pink pickled eggs and Welsh Rarebit with smoked oysters? This is a true community pub that’s inclusive, cosy and friendly. It even welcomes home workers like me in the daytime. Top marks! Highly recommended.

Changed hands and re opened in July. Been there for drinks on a good number of occasions, finally decided to have a Sunday lunch which was excellent. The staff are friendly and attentive and they are very dog friendly which is a bonus. Dont forget to say hello to Bonnie the owners dog and slip her a treat from the dog treat stall🐶.

Ruddy excellent. Impeccable friendly service and the best food. Had the beetroot pizza, roast pots and two most delicious homemade puds. A must visit. These guys really care about their food and it shows. Fuelled us up nicely for a 50 mile run the following day!
